Trouble Using iMovie 10.0.3 and firewire to copy digital tape to mac

My older mac and iMove were able to use the firewire connector (older version of that, too) to recognize my camera and import video played from my camera to the computer. This is not working now.
I have a Panasonic Digital Video Camcorder - Model # PV-GS400 and also a Sony Digital Video Camcorder DCR-PC10 - both of which worked in the past and have 4 pin connectors. I just purchased a new 4 pin to 800 9-pin cable to be able to connect to my new Mac Mini with Maverics OS. My iMovie version is 10.0.3
Any thoughts?

Another easy way to fix this.
What I've noticed is that upon upgrading your projects and events to work with iMovie 10, initially it will work... Until you quit iMovie and reopen it again. Any events with hashtags will show up without the star next to the iMovie event. SO, if you happen to read this, after upgrading to iMovie 10 from its predecessor, immediately change the event name to NOT include a hashtag/pound symbol.
Otherwise, if it's too late, you can either do the above or this...
Hold down option and click on iMovie. This will prompt you Locate, Create a New Library, Cancel this window, or Choose a different library. What you want to do is create a new library, call it whatever you want to, this will only be temporary. After the program opens, it should be a blank Library. Then go to File > Open Library > iMovie Library (your original library) and proceed to change the name of your events. Quit the program. Go into your Movies folder in Finder, delete the library you temporarily created, and your back in business.

after making the photo slide show, i clicked share>export movie. after which i burned using toast. the file became a .mov. i tried playing it in my mac and it worked. my fear now is will it also play in a regular dvd?... i read from google that mov files won't run in dvd players. what format should i convert it to so it'll play in a dvd player. can you suggest a faster way i can burn my projects for it takes me almost an hour to export. im going to make 28 slideshows for my kids in school. *=( if i need to do this process 28 times, i may not be able to finish it on time. please suggest a software or an alternative as to how i should do this... m more comfortable using imovie than iphoto. thanks and i hope to hear from someone soon *=j

Thank you QuickTimeKirk...used toast to burn project... my project was in .mov, i tried to play it a dvd player, it did play... will try again tomorrow using another dvd player just to be sure it'll will really work with dvd players. thank you again for your reply *=)

Disconnect everything hooked up to the PC except the keyboard, mouse and monitor.
Then use this method to flash the BIOS. It is the safest way to go.

Can the apple ipad 2 with the new imovie app edit movies that are saved onto the ipad but not under that camera roll application. Or is there another way around it. Or is there a converter I can use.

I have recently purchased a Panasonic TZ30 but I find that although still photos with upload into iphoto movies will not. I use imovie a great deal and find that I am not able to use the movies from my camera. Can anyone explain please ?

Can anyone esplain why I cannot upload movies from my Panasonic TZ30 camera? I able to upload stills and I was able to upload movies from my previous Panasonic TZ5. Since I use iMovie a gret deal it is very disappointing not to be able to use the videos from my new camera.

What format are you shooting? AVCHD? Not all versions of that are supported.
A note on AVCHD: This format was developed for people who are shooting to edit the material afterwards. If you're shooting to edit, then iMovie or Final Cut are the correct home for this material. If you're not shooting to edit consider using one of the other video formats on your Camera.

I can import my first clip to the video library, but not the second clip. I tried dragging-dropping and using the "E" key, but only the first clip will show up in the library. I use IMovie 9.0.9 and OSX 10.8.5. with no problems until yesterday.

I can drag my first clip from the New Event window into the Project Library, but not the second. I can highlight the second clip in the New Event window, but it won't "drag". Thanks victoryhat. I learned some new things from this very clear tutorial. But it didn't answer my question about why the titles don't stay with the video when I export it.
He did mention something that might be a clue however. When he talked about importing a title he created as an image, he noted that he was careful to make the image the same size as the video he was adding it to: 1280 x 720. Since I took the video with an iPhone in the vertical position, my video image isn't the same size and orientation as the titles.
Maybe there is a way I should be setting the screen for this size??? I'll go back and play around. Meanwhile thanks for alerting me to Gary Rosenzweig's MacMost tutorials. Very clear. I'll look for more.

Can I use CS4 windows at home and transfer my files to my schools Mac computer!

Next semester I am planning on taking Intro to Computer Arts and I am thinking of purchasing CS4 for my home computer so I can do assignments at home - I also love photography so I plan to use it for that as well. The problem is I have a windows based computer, and my school computer is Mac. Will I be able to create a file in windows and view it on a Mac computer?

I thought Mac computers saved their files in a different format
It was not a "different format," per se, but a bit-order within the format. As John points out, that was a long time ago.
Now, here are some thoughts on the transfer of the files:
One can use external HDD's to move the files around. Note that image files can be pretty large. On most current PC's the HDD format is NTSF, instead of the older FAT-32. Unless it has changed, the Mac OS will want to see the older FAT-32 format for the external. Most come with that format from the mfgr. With image files, this is usually not an issue, because they are less than the ~4GB file size limit of FAT-32. Video files can be a whole different issue.
Most Mac OS's will have no problems with PC-formatted externals. It is not always the same thing going the other direction. My PC's have always been able to "mount" Mac discs. In the old days, I used one of several utilities to accomplish this. Now, it is less of an issue, but if you need to "mount" a Mac-formatted external and cannot, you might want to get MacDrive. Do not recall the price, but it's pretty cheap and effective. One caveat, should you go with MacDrive: upon installation, it will load one of its modules into the StartUp section of your MSCONFIG. Normally, this will just load and be transparent. However, if you get a DVD, that has both Mac and PC versions of programs on it, all of a sudden, your PC will only see the Mac versions, and not see the PC versions. The trick here is to use the included MSCONFIG (from the Start>Run) to NOT load that MacDrive module at StartUp. MacDrive will still work fine, when you launch it, but now your PC will see both versions of programs/files on those dual-platform DVD's.
Again, you might not even need this, but it is an option.
Were I you, I'd pick up an external HDD, with probably a FireWire connection, leave it formatted in FAT-32, and use it transport my image files between home and school.
Maybe one of the Mac-users can confirm whether the FAT-32 is still necessary on current Mac OS's.
One last consideration will be the calibration of your PC's monitor to the settings of your lab's Mac displays. Since the school will not let you adjust the Mac that you're working on, you'll want to calibrate your PC to match the lab machines. Otherwise, you will be doing things like density/gamma correction and color correction on one machine, only to have it look horrible on the other.

Trying to add titles in IMovie. Using IMovie 8.0.6 and Mac OSX version 10.6.8. When I try to add titles IMovie shuts down. What do I need to do to stop the shut downs?

I can not add Titles in IMovies. When I click on the Titles, IMovie shuts down. I am using Mac OSX Version 10.6.8 and IMovies version 8.0.6
Was able to add some Titles yesterday, but had some problems with shut downs. Today I can not get past clicking on Titles without a shutdown

This had to do with the Far Far Away title causing iMovie to quit.
Try clearing caches and plist.
Do the behavior persist in a new user on the computer?

you will not see the audio meters from within fcp move while capturing.
If you only see the captured clip in the finder, not within fcp, there's something wrong. You might try deleting your fcp preferences

Can't use my bb as usb and can't copy images or music

Hello,
I've read the post with How To use the bb with USB, I've downloaded the USB drivers V5 and I still can't see my bb as a hard drive in the computer, I restarted the pc and everything...
Before that, I installed the desktop and devide manager, the device manager could see my bb but the desktop manager could not so I uninstall it and followed that how to... I'm really lost here, this is my first bb and I have no idea what to do... I'll Appreciate any help here.
Btw, mine is a BB pearl 8100

Since you are not sure where to go, I'll suggest starting over...
1) Cleanly uninstall everything about the RIM software from your PC:
KB02206 How to perform a clean uninstall of BlackBerry Desktop Software
2) Download a fresh copy of the Desktop Software:
http://na.blackberry.com/eng/services/desktop/
I suggest using the v5.0 English package without Media Manager -- that will have everything necessary. As option, you can DL the USB drivers only, but you then won't have the full DTM app, which helps you keep your BB up to date as well as allows you to take a backup on a regular basis.
3) Download a fresh copy of your Device OS Package:

4) Install that Device OS Package to your PC (it modifies the RIM Desktop Software with the stuff specific to your device on your carrier)
5) Follow these instructions for configuring everything to use your BB on your PC:

You can skip over the download and installation of the Desktop Software steps -- you've already done those.
6) With that, everything should be working. If not, here's some troubleshooting guidelines:

I made the update to Os X Mavericks and my MacBook Pro 13' is having some isues; the SD slot card is not readding the cards. Sometimes, when I have a couples of hours using the lap, when I open the finder or any file, there are only the name of the files, but not images and I can open then even if I selected. It depends on what iPhone you have.
If it's an iPhone 4S or earlier, click here.
If it's an iPhone 5, you need to buy a Mac OS X 10.6 DVD, and that requires an Intel Mac with at least 1GB RAM.

Trouble using Cut & Paste function

I am having trouble using any type of cut and paste function
in Dreamweaver......I have tried using "ctrl c" and "ctrl v", have
tried using right click mouse function with drop down menu for
cutting and pasting, and using the edit (top bar) cut and paste
functions. Nothing works.......it doesn't matter whether I cut and
paste within Dreamweaver or whether I cut from a word document and
paste into Dreamweaver. It just doesn't work. Any ideas on how to
fix this issue? I understand this SHOULD be working.
