Trouble using Power Adaptor to charge iPad2

The 10W USB Adaptor supplied with my iPad2 doesn't seem to work When I plug it in (using a UK plug which it slots into) it does not charge the iPad. I have another plug which the USB cable slots into, and when the iPad is connected to a power socket via this plug, it charges but the plug gets hot very quickly. Is this OK? I don't like to leave it plugged in this way for too long, so it will take ages to charge it fully. Do you have to use the USB Adaptor supplied - is it the best way to charge?

The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.

It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. With this sort of thing you have a choice. You can take your chances with the cheap option, or possibly pay more than is necessary, but have what is pretty much a sure thing.
If we were talking maybe a $100 or less MP3 player, I'd say go with the cheap option because the worst that happens is you have to buy a new MP3 player for around $100. Annoying, but generally doable.
With expensive electronics, I'd suggest the sure thing. If you go cheap, and it fries the logic board on the MBP, then you're looking at like $1200 minimum. Probably around $200+ for the iPod, and around $500 for the iPhone. If Apple's gear ends up frying the various devices, Apple would be pretty much obliged to replace them. You buy some third party stuff, they'll just say the fault must have been with the third party adapters, and that you're SOL unless you cough up the cash for a repair/replacement.
So, at the end of the day, is it worth risking around $2,000 worth of equipment just to save a few bucks on a travel adapter? Only you can answer that.

Using power adaptor charger while playing iPod

I have a charger for my iPod Mini. I think it's called a "USB-based power adaptor." When I got it about a year ago it cost about $20. Uses a cable for the iPod into it and then plugs into a standard outlet.
I am also able to run my iPod through one of my more high-end stereo systems. A great advantage, particularly for "home recording," to listen and get full stereo sound.
The question is:
Can I use the charger adaptor while the iPod is playing? Either through the stereo system or using the iPod just by itself?
It would seem that should be no problem. Wouldn't it be the same principle as using an iPod "dock?"
If I can do this, the nice thing would be that I could keep my iPod fully charged while playing. Either through the stereo system or playing just the iPod alone.
Could any harm be done by doing this?

In theory, it shouldn't do any harm. The reason I added the qualifier is that its possible that a non-Apple charger could in some way, not be quite up to spec and could behave oddly. Of course, Apple chargers can go bad, too. iPods will stop accepting a charger once they are fully charged. I have used chargers while my iPod has been connected to speakers with no difficulty and no harm to the iPod.

I bought the iPod USB Power adaptor from Singapore and it came with a power adaptor plug that is used in the States. Can I use that plug and slot it into my iBook charger? Will it work? I've tried putting it in and the connection's fine but it doesn't look like a perfect fit externally.

Three criteria must be respected:
1) Voltage and Power compatibility:
The electrical specs on the iPod USB Power adaptor must match the ones that come out of the iBook charger. (you may need a magnifying glass, but they read somewhere, it's the law) Most probably all this stuff is International 100-240V/50-60Hz, but you must make sure.
However the Amperes (or the Watts) values often differ, so watch this carefully.
2) No loose contact:
Although shapes can look weird, if at least contacts are always touching tightly, that's fine.
3) Security:
If you can see enough metal for the cat to put her nose on it... ... ...
Another solution is to warn the cat
--> Find a shape adapter if electrical specs match:
Adapters are not all multiple, expensive devices. Find a cheap one that fits only between Singapore and the US.

Track pad very irratic while using power adaptor

Using a 65 watt power adaptor on my Macbook Air, which requires only 45 watts. Charges the batter fine, but I cannot use the trackpad while it's plugged in, unplug it and it works fine. Extrememly annoying.

I do not travel with it much. I use it more like a desktop. I purchased the notebook because of it's small footprint and portability. I use it in various places around the home on a daily basis. Wherever I am there is an electrical outlet handy. If I follow the principal of discharging and recharging once per month then I would be using the power adaptor almost constantly. Is this truly recommended?

We have an 11-inch MacBook Air (mid-2012) which came at the time with a power cord permanently (apparently) attached to a heavy (annoying) power adapter, which then becomes the 5 pin plug to charge the laptop. Is there a way to charge this without this bulky cumbersome long plug & heavy adapter? The small space where we use this & taking it anywhere makes this extremely annoying. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks Csound1… So this cannot be changed via USB or some other way the 5 pin plug can plug into some other lighter wall adapter? It just seems strangely cumbersome. The adapter looks like you could pull it apart or unplug it from itself. The ones I see online for sale (see attached photo) look like this. Mine has the same skinny wire attached to it (other end is the 5 pin magnetic plug to Air), but the other side of my adapter (in this picture where this looks like it would open), I have another thick wire which seems permanently stuck to this adapter and the end of that long thick wire is what plugs into the wall. Mine has this same "look" where you see the lines that imply it would open or be a plug of some sort, but this is where my thick electric wire is attached. Is that permanent or can I pull it apart and there's really a plug there to plug that into the wall (the adapter itself I mean). Hope I'm making myself clear.

UK USB power adaptor not Charging

I bought an iPhone 3G last week from the O2 shop - I have tried the UK 3 pin plug in charger with the phone - but it does not charge, cable supplied works when plugs into USB on my Macs.
I have tried the adaptor with my 5Gen ipod, still no charge.
Is there a return policy? - who should I chase for the replacement, O2 or apple store.

Applecare suggested the best option is to take the adaptor into an apple store for a no hassle exchange accessory...
She said if I wanted to exchange it at 02 it would have to be a replacement boxed product Handset and all, which involves backing up all my data etc...
Trip to local store is not a problem!

Firewire, can I use it to charge with power adaptor?

Ok so I have the new 30GB iPod Video, and I only have USB1.1 ports, yes it *****, yes it'll take all night for me to load all my songs on it. Well what can you do!
