Trouble viewing .flv files in cs3

Hi everyone,
I am just starting out using dreamweaver. I am trying to follow a tutorial on how to use it and am running a problem displaying .flv files. When I click on the file directly in the files panel i get an error that states "cant find a valid editor for this file extension". Does any one know how to correct this issue. I am using dreamweaver cs3 on  mac os x.

CR2 files are raw Canon files. If you can open them, it means your OK as far as the installation of the proper version of the ACR Plugin.
If you can't see the thumbnails of the TIFFs but you can open the files themselves in Photoshop by double-clicking on them, then all you may have to do is Purge the Cache for the offending folder(s) through the Tools menu of Bridge Tools > Cache > Purge cache for folder "name_of_folder".
Note that I am flying blind here as you haven't provided any sensible, meaningful and detailed information about your setup.
If you gave some sensible, complete and detailed information, someone may be able to help you, such as your platform (Mac or Win), exact versions of your OS, of Photoshop and of Bridge, machine specs, what troubleshooting steps you have taken so far, etc.

  • Viewing FLV files offline

I am currently using Bridge CS3 to view all of my FLV files
    on my Mac.
Is there a dedicated player, or a plugin for Quicktime that
    will allow
me to view FLV files without having to open Bridge?
    Thanks.

I would NOT recommend you waste your time downloading Adobe Media Player, there are already numerous complaints about this player. It appears to let you 'download' the videos. There is a download screen in which you can see the progress of files being downloaded for 'offline' viewing and the files are stored in your application cache folder. They then show up as 'downloaded' ready for offline viewing.
However, the player MYSTERIOUSLY deletes these files later at some magical time, an hour or two hours or six.... later for some STRANGE UNEXPLAINED reason. In addition, you will not know which ones will be deleted. I had 20 episodes in m Flex course already downloaded. Of these all but two were deleted. You can prevent this, by going in the cache and copying the folder and then opeing the flv files directly.  This begs the question, why delete the files in the first place.
Despite many complaints made to adobe about this 'bug', nothing has been said, no replies received from Adobe. As a newby to Adobe development I take this a sign of the indifference this company is to a straighforward problem. What a waste of bandwidth, download quota, server time. Just LET US DOWNLOAD ONCE.
If you like, you can try using the media player but to prevent having to redownload the files a few hours later you can try to just copy the respective folder and do the annoying thing of opeining up the files.
    Thanks Adobe for ....

  • Hi. i'm having trouble viewing pdf files in safari

i'm having trouble viewing pdf files in safari.

    Back up all data.
Triple-click the line of text below to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

Moderator's Note: We have moved your post and changed the title into a subject-related title. This is to keep the forum organized and let other forum users easily see and respond to this post.

the only way really to view .flv files on older Symbian 5th edition devices was thru baseline updates to the built-in video player (in many cases, RealPlayer). this was achieved only thru ensuring that you had the latest firmware installed on your device, via checking via Nokia Suite on your PC.

  • Why can't I view RAW files in CS3

I have installed CS3 on a new MacBook Pro. I am unable to edit/view RAW files from my Nikon D5000 Digital SLR.
Can you tell me what I am doing incorrectly.

You'll need to update to CS4 to get the updated Camera RAW plugin, or use the free DNG converter to convert your NEF files to DNG before processing with CS3.

  • Viewing CS5 files on CS3

I have CS3 installed on my computer - some of my coworkers are using CS5 and I am unable to even view files created with CS5.
Is there something I'm doing wrong, or an update I can download to be able to view their files?  Do they have to save it in some compatibility mode?
    Thanks for any help.

This forum is for suite specific issues only. I can only assume you're referring to InDesign. There is no way to open an InDesign file created in a newer version. While InDesign can export a file for backward use, it can only be done one version at a time. Along the way, text will reflow and any new features will be lost or badly mangled.
This has been discussed to death in the InDesign forum. You'll need to upgrade if you want to work on these projects.

  • Viewing .FLV Files

    Hello Everyone,
I have a few questions regarding the "YouTube" scenario:
    1. When a video file is uploaded to youtube, does the flv
file created call the original video in? In other words, is the
original video live on the server?
    2. My understanding of .FLV files is that they can only be
viewed on a page via a .SWF file. True? Are there other ways to
    view a .FLV file on
    (embedded) a page?
    TIA,
    Greg

    Hi
1...I'm not familiar with youtube's methods, but it would be
logical to suppose that any file you upload to a 'public server'
will be accessable by anyone, therefore each instance will be a
live preview of the original. And if its not 'LIVE' on the server
how would anyone know it exsisted?
A swf alone cannot play .flv's even this needs a 'player',
such as the very basic Video object in Flash to the fuller featured
FLVPlayback component. .flv's can be viewed with 3rd party Desktop
    apps such as FlashStreamWorks player
    FLVPlayer
Check out youtube info maybe they have .flv related
    documentation on how to use.
    Hope it helps

  • View EPS files with CS3

I have Adobe Illustraotor CS3, I only need it to view artwork files sent to me, I do not need to work on them, how can I view EPS files that were created in newer versions of Adobe

"Place" is Adobe's lingo for what other software simply calls "Import".
    Not exactly.
It would be interesting to read Adobe's official criteria (if it exists) for whether a particular format belongs in "Open" or "Place." But generically:
"Import" is more restrictive, in that it implies that an import filter is going to translate the incoming data into native objects. "Place" is a (rather awkward) throwback term to early page-layout programs (ex.: PageMaker), which were essentially intended to be "assembly" programs in which to assemble and arrange many multiple kinds of external files (text, raster, vector) into a page design. The implication of "Place" is that the receiving program does not necessarily have to "disassemble" or "break into" or even "understand" the content of the incoming file; it can just position and scale a reference to it on the page (i.e.; link).
The "Place" concept is particularly germane to positioning EPS files in page-layout apps. The operative word in EPS is "Encapsulated." It provides for a "capsule" that can contain a collection of objects that can be passed to/through many programs that don't necessarily understand its content.
(Remember, prior to its acquisition of Aldus, Adobe didn't even have a page-layout application.)
So "Import" is what Illustrator does (if it can) if you don't specify linking to the external file. You don't have to Open an EPS in Illustrator; you can link to it as an external file (i.e.; "Place" it on the page.)
To my mind, "Open" should be reserved for native files that were created in the program, "Import" should be reserved for non-native files that will be translated into native content, and "Place" (or "Insert") should be used for linking to external files. So Illustrator should not "Open" an EPS, since it may not have been created in Illustrator, and therefore may contain objects which will be translated with varying degrees of  fidelity; it should either "Import" it (translate it) or "Place" it (leave its content alone). By the same token, Illustrator should not claim to "Open" a JPEG, either.
But remember, Illustrator was essentially a visual PostScript editor.
Also it no doubt would arguably be more confusing to newcomers to provide an Open, Import, and Place command. (So why not make the terms more explicit and intuitive in the first place, perhaps like: Reopen, Translate, Link?)
And it's also no doubt considered more "impressive" from a marketing standpoint to claim that a program can "Open" various other-brand native files, and that's where my cynical mind suspects the runaway overlap stems from. So Illustrator can ostensibly "Open" certain version Corel Draw files, and vice-versa. (No, they can Import data from each other, to varying degrees of fidelity.) Adobe, of course, is not the only offender here. For example, FileMaker claims to "Open" Excel spreadsheets, too, when it really just imports the data.
At any rate, despite frequent claims to the contrary, EPS is not obsolete in the world at large beyond Adobe apps; not until non-Adobe apps can insert (place) and/or import (translate) PDF as a spot graphic. Microsoft Word (Windows), for example, can't do that. So EPS is still needed there for those who understand its purpose and limitations. Similarly, some softwares which drive cutters / plotters import EPS files with vector content, too; but don't claim to "open" native Illustrator files.

  • Trouble opening .inx files in CS3 - links randomly replaced with foo.jpg

I have to move a lot of CS4 InDesign files to CS3, and I often run into a bizarre problem. After opening an .inx file in InDesign CS3, sometimes perfectly normal PDF, JPG, EPS and AI files will mysteriously be replaced with a linked file called "foo.jpg" that InDesign thinks is missing (it always reports the path as "c:foo.jpg"). I then have to go figure out what the original file was actually called and where it was saved and relink it manually.
There is no rhyme or reason to when linked files don't come over - our logo is saved in one location and linked in every single piece we make, yet sometimes it links fine when imported into CS3 and sometimes it doesn't. Going back to CS4 and exporting a new .inx file never works - a file that will not link correctly in CS3 will never show up correctly.
It always thinks "foo" is a .jpg file, even if the original link was actually a .pdf, .eps or whatever.
    Any ideas? I'm perplexed.

Smells like a bug to me. Did you try reporting it?
What happens if you search the incp file for "foo"? Does it find
    anything?
When the vendor opens the file, what is the link name on his end?

  • Trouble viewing QT files shot in HD -audio is fine though

I am having some issues with some HD video I am attempting to edit. It was shot on 3 cams, 2 in 1080i50 and one in 720p. The shooter loaded all of the files into what appears to be quicktime. Only thing is, I pull up the video and all I get is a blank screen with audio playing just fine. When I first open one of the files, a QT alert pops up, telling me that 'Additional software is required for QT time playback this media. It may be available from the QT Components page. Only thing is I am not sure which component is needed. What is this and how do I get around this to view the files?

You don't have the video codec needed to playback those files.
Open one of the files in QuickTime Player. Press command an i keys together.
What does it say in the info window next to "Format"?

  • Possible Windows Media Center Conflict When Viewing .FLV FIles

I am running IE10 on Win7 and just downloaded Flashplayer 11.8.800
I verified the download via the Manage Add-ons list in IE10 and saw that Shockwave Flash Object is available.
I also verified that FP ActiveX - with the correct install date - is among the populated programs in my Uninstall list of the Control Panel.
However, in my WIN7 Default Programs details all .flv files are associated with Windows Media Center and when I try to change that association there does not appear to be a way to link the .flv files to the Flash Player
or a way to disassocaite the .flv files from Windows Media Center.
With the setup the way it is now, when I download a .flv file and try to run it,
Windows Media Center tries to run it and gives me an error that the file type or the codex that created compression may not be supported.
How do I get the .flv files to run?

I use VLC media player for downloaded FLVs  http://www.videolan.org/index.html

  • What is the best way to view FLV files?

I remember installing a plug-in for QuickTime that would allow FLV movies to be viewed. (How do you know what plug-ins you have anyway?)
With QuickTime, the longer the FLV movie is, the more the audio and video go out of sync.
Any opinions on standalone FLV players that are not QuickTime-based?

    You need Perian from http://perian.org/
You should read this support page http://perian.org/#support in case you need to delete older codecs. In Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime/ delete any files relating to DivX (Perian already has them). However it should be noted that Perian is not an internet plugin and will not play DivX files imbedded on a website. For that you will need the DivX Player browser plugin available from http://www.divx.com/divx/mac/

  • Trouble viewing .tif files in bridge?

When I open a folder of images in Bridge I can see the CR2 files but the edited .tif files only appear as a generic .tif icon, and when I press the space bar to try to preview them larger I get that same icon. I can see some of the .tifs as the icons but when I try to view those larger it's only a tiny preview image, like a 1"x1" icon. The only way I can view the images is to physically open each one in photoshop
