Trouble viewing PDFs after installing Mavericks

Prior to installing Marvericks, I had no trouble viewing the PDFs on this site:
http://dhrd.hawaii.gov/state-hr-professionals/class-and-comp/
Scroll to bottom and click on Class Specifications and Minimum Qualfiication Requirements.
An excel spreadsheet is downloaded.
Open the spreadsheet and click on the link for any PDF.
It seems that after installing Mavericks, the documents open but the text is unreadable.
I tried removing the PDF viewer internet plug-ins from the library as one member had recommended for a similar issue, but that didn't work for me.
Anyone know how to resolve this issue?

deleted.
I just get the giberish when I open your PDF reference.

Please follow these directions to delete the Mail "sandbox" folders. In OS X 10.9 there are two sandboxes, while in 10.8 there is only one. If you're running a version older than 10.8, this comment isn't applicable.
    Back up all data.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
              Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A Finder window should open with a folder named "com.apple.mail" selected. If it does, move the selected folder—not just its contents—to the Desktop. Leave the Finder window open for now.
Log out and log back in. Launch Mail and test. If the problem is resolved, you may have to recreate some of your Mail settings. You can then delete the folder you moved and close the Finder window.
This action will delete any custom Mail stationery that you have created. If you want to preserve it, ask for instructions.
If you still have the problem, quit Mail again and put the folder back where it was, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place. Repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.MailServiceAgent
Caution: If you change any of the contents of the sandbox, but leave the folder itself in place, Mail may crash or not launch at all. Deleting the whole sandbox will cause it to be rebuilt automatically.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • I am also having trouble with my cursor freezing after installing Mavericks. Never did it before. I called tech support at Apple and they had me restart computer and mouse together from a complete shut down. So far has seemed to work.

I am having trouble with my cursor freezing between applications after installing Mavericks. Called Apple on my 3 year warranty and opened a case. They suggested a complete shut down of computer and turning off mouse. Then a reboot and turn on mouse. So far iit has seemed to work. Hope this continues??
    Hope it helps others.

I think you can solve your problems by removing your AppleID email address from BOTH the Messages setting on your iPhone and the iMessages settings on your Mac.
    On iPhone:
    Settings > Messages > iMessage > Dissabled
Settings > Messages > Send & Receive > touch the "(i)" < touch "Remove This Email"
    On Mac:
    Open "Messages" application
    Click "Messages menu > Preferences
    Click "Accounts"
    Select your AppleID account
Under the "You can be reached for messages at" settings, uncheck your AppleID email address and your phone number
Then uncheck the "Enable this account" setting
And lastly, ask all of your friends with iPhones to delete all iMessage conversations (blue bubbles) in their entirety.
To test, send a friend a new text using their phone number (not their email address) and watch the color of the bubble.  If it's green then you are using SMS.

  • Why system is very slow after installing Mavericks

After installing mavericks my system becom very slow. startup also very slow. when i open an application it spins. what should i need to do

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.

  • Call Of Duty LAN Servers does not work after installing Mavericks on my Mac Air, I need help!

Hey everyone, I have some troubles making LAN servers on Call of Duty 4 and people can't join them after installing Mavericks on my Macbook Air. I need help!
    Thx!

    Hi,
You don’t install VS2010 on the client PC, then where did the Form Invoice not work? When you run it from another version of VS? Or when you run the application with application.exe?
Based on your description, one form works well, another form does not. I assume that two forms are in two different projects, then please check the .Net Framework used by the two projects. If they are different, you can use the
one used by the Form contact for Form Invoice.
Because this issue is a project issue, I recommend you to consult it on some application forum such as Windows Forms General forum for better support.
VS General Question forum mainly discusses
the usage of Visual Studio IDE such as
WPF & SL designer, Visual Studio Guidance Automation Toolkit, Developer Documentation and Help
    System and Visual Studio Editor.

  • "View Pdf After Exporting" Moves Acrobat to Background

Wow, even this forum is buggy. I just lost my entire post because the "server wasn't responding". That'll teach me to copy and paste my post into a text file before hitting the Post Message button.
    Here goes again:
I've tried getting an answer for this problem in the InDesign forum with no response after a week.
    OSX 10.6.7
    Acrobat 9.4.3
    InDesign 7.0.3
    Conditions:
Step 1) Only InDesign is running. I make a pdf with the "View Pdf After Exporting" box checked. The pdf is created, Acrobat opens and displays my pdf for me as it did in 8 and before.
Step 2) With only InDesign and Acrobat running, I repeat step 1 above, I get the same result EXCEPT that Acrobat immediately pops into the background.
This never happened with any version previous to InDesign CS5 and happened before I installed Acrobat 9, sending Acrobat 8 into the background.
This is a very frustrating bug.

This is the best place to report bugs. They get counted and logged: https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform

  • After installing maverick my computer is very slow

after installing maverick my computer is very slow, what can I do?

First, back up all data immediately, as your boot drive might be failing.
    Step 1
This diagnostic procedure will query the log for messages that may indicate a system issue. It changes nothing, and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    syslog -k Sender kernel -k Message CReq 'GPU |hfs: Ru|I/O e|find tok|n Cause: -|NVDA\(|timed? ?o' | tail | open -ef
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key.
The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear.
A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. Normally the command will produce no output, and the window will be empty. If the TextEdit window (not the Terminal window) has anything in it, stop here and post it — the text, please, not a screenshot. The title of the TextEdit window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that.
    Step 2
There are a few other possible causes of generalized slow performance that you can rule out easily.
Disconnect all non-essential wired peripherals and remove aftermarket expansion cards, if any.
    Reset the System Management Controller.
Run Software Update. If there's a firmware update, install it.
If you're booting from an aftermarket SSD, see whether there's a firmware update for it.
If you have a portable computer, check the cycle count of the battery. It may be due for replacement.
If you have many image or video files on the Desktop with preview icons, move them to another folder.
If applicable, uncheck all boxes in the iCloud preference pane. See whether there's any change.
Check your keychains in Keychain Access for excessively duplicated items.
Boot into Recovery mode, launch Disk Utility, and run Repair Disk.
If you have a MacBook Pro with dual graphics, disable automatic graphics switching in the Energy Saverpreference pane for better performance at the cost of shorter battery life.
    Step 3
When you notice the problem, launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the icon grid.
Select the CPU tab of the Activity Monitor window.
Select All Processes from the View menu or the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.
Click the heading of the % CPU column in the process table to sort the entries by CPU usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Also post the values for User, System, and Idle at the bottom of the window.
Select the Memory tab. What value is shown in the bottom part of the window for Swap used?
Next, select the Disk tab. Post the approximate values shown for Reads in/sec and Writes out/sec (not Reads in andWrites out.)
    Step 4
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way you launched Activity Monitor. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Select the 50 or so most recent entries in the log. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combinationcommand-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). You're looking for entries at the end of the log, not at the beginning.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some personal information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting. That should be easy to do if your extract is not too long.

  • Mail not working after installing Mavericks

Mail stoped working after installing Mavericks!

Check this out. It worked for me and is related to a problem in Accounts.plist...
The problem was caused by dodgy entries in the accounts.plist file in my User Library folder. It appears that either when I upgraded to Mavericks this file gained hundreds (possibly thousands) of spurious entries, or maybe these entries were in there before but previously the OSX/Mail combination was more tolerant. When I removed these the problem with Mail disappeared. Here’s what I did….
1> Make the user Library folder visible - in Mavericks this is a lot easier than Lion/Mountain Lion. Simply open up your user directory in Finder, select menu View>Show View Options, and select “Show Library Folder”
2> Navigate through username>Library>Mail>V2>MailData and select the Accounts.plist file. If this file is multiple megabytes (mine was 40+mb) then this is likely the cause of your problem (once sorted mine ended up at 19k in size!)
3> To be safe, make a copy of this file (I placed the copy on my desktop).
4> Using your chosen text editor (I used Text Wrangler but I’m sure TextEdit would work just fine) open the Accounts.plist in the MailData folder (not your backup copy) and take a look. If it’s the same as me you will find hundreds and hundreds of entries for the same mailbox repeated in there. Mine was an old MSN mailbox that I never use any more (I’ve seen in other forums that other Hotmail type accounts also seem to be the culprits in this context). There will likely be two lots of repeated data, one in the XML “DeliveryAccounts” <array> section, and one lot in the “MailAccounts” <array> section.
5> Delete (keeping in mind the need to select the XML sections correctly from <dict> to </dict> completely) all those extra entries that you found, keeping the mail accounts you do need, in the XML and save the file.
6> Mail should open up nice and fast again and not eat your system
7> If this did not work, and causes problems because of over eager deleting in <5> you can replace your broken Accounts.plist file with your backup and try again.

  • After installing Mavericks Acrobat reader stopped working, Skype stopped working, lost a bunch of e-mails in my gmail account in Mail.

After installing Mavericks Acrobat reader stopped working, Skype stopped working, lost a bunch of e-mails in my gmail account in Mail. Anyone has a fix?  I can't open PDF files anymore...

    Do a backup.
Take notes of all account information or take screen shots. You may need to set the accounts up again. Quit Mail.
    Copy the line below.
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail
Select Go/Go To Folder from the Finder menu bar. Paste the line into the window. You won’t see it.
Move the folder com.apple.mail to your desktop. You must move the entire folder, not just the contents.
Relaunch Mail and test. If the problem is solved, recreate any required Mail settings and import any emails you want to save from the folder on the desktop. If the problem remains, return the folder to where you got it replacing the one that is there.
    Information learned from Linc Davis.
If you prefer to make your user library permanently visible, use the Terminal command found below.
Show User Library Directory in Mac OS X 10.7 Lion & 10.8 Mountain Lion
You might want to bookmark the command. I had to use it again after every update. I have also been informed that if you drag the user library to Finder it will remain visible.

  • Has anyone else experienced WiFi issues after installing Mavericks?

I recently installed Mavericks on my 2009 iMac. After the initial install, everything worked beautifully. After my first reboot, however, the network is having trouble staying connected to the wireless network. I verified the modem/roouter were working by testing on my other wifi enable devices (iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, etc).
My question really, if whether or not anyone else has experienced this after installing Mavericks official release and is this a known issue that I cannot seem to locate information on.
It should be noted that I often use a VPN service called Private Internet Access. And thought I havent had issues with this before any reboot, I thought it would be worth mentioning.
Thank to anyone's help in advance.

I've also been having a lot of issues with my wireless after I updated to Mavericks.  For me, the problem is manifest whenever I'm using my system in a conference room with a lot of other folks who are also using wireless.  The connection is up and down constantly, to the point where it's really not usable.  Other folks in the room (who are using Windows systems) don't have the same issues.  It's gotten to the point where _they_ are making fun of my me and my Mac (the tables have turned!).
I never had these issues when I was using Mountain Lion.  Since it's the same environment and the same hardware (MacBook Pro, 15", Retina), I've started to suspect that Mavericks is the culprit.

  • TS3999 Retrieving calendar info after installing Mavericks

After installing Mavericks, just one appointment on a certain day on my calendar was erased. Is there a way to get the info from that appointment day?  I have an off site backup source, but can't find the info for that day.  Can anyone help?

I'm not sure if the folder from pre-Mavericks would be compatible.  You would probably have to ask over in the Mavericks forum: https://discussions.apple.com/community/mac_os/os_x_mavericks?view=discussions.  If you have a Time Machine backup, you could restore your iCloud calendars by following Roger Wilmut's article here: http://www.wilmut.webspace.virginmedia.com/notes/icloudtm.html.

  • If you have problems with Apple Apps after installing Mavericks

I had a problem with Apple Apps after installing Mavericks. They would bounce in the dock but never open.  The problem apps I had trouble with were CALENDAR, MAIL, and even APP STORE.   I am guessing it has to do with permissions when setting up via iCloud.  Here's what I did to make my apps work again after the update:
Restart computer, then immediately hold down OPTION so you can start from the 10.9 RECOVERY DISK.
Run DISK UTILITY, then run REPAIR DISK, then run REPAIR DISK PERMISIONS.
After this, RESTART, then hold COMMAND OPTION P R at the same time until your computer restarts three times.
After it boots up, the apps began working like they should have.

That's where your questions about Lion should be posted.

  • App Store, Pages 5.0, Evernote, and other Apps will not fully function after installing Mavericks. What is the issue and how can this be solved?

Hello all, I could use some serious help on some major issues I have been having after installing Mavericks on my system (specs stated below). Never has a mac felt ever so rebelious and broken before in my lifelong period of using these systems. Anyway, after installing system 10.9, I had opened the mac App Store upon seeing that applications such as my iWork suite all had free updates. However, when I would attempt to navigate to the updates window, it would not respond to my various attempts. I then tried to get there by the system's menu bar and to my dismay, nothing would work when I clicked on it, not even the apple logo menu. I later quit the application using Command-Q and opened up the App Store by the apple menu option 'Software Update...' instead. Though it looked promising since the updates window did open, all update buttons or even '...more' info buttons were unresponsive.  These same problems persisted even after restarting my computer. I had also attempted to see if repairing definitions would help by booting from the recovery start-disk and using disk utility but the repairs it carried out apparently had nothing to do with my issue. Finally, I was able to update to the new iWorks suite (which interestingly did not replace the iWorks '09 suite) by following the notification that asked about allowing automatic updates which I did.
Once trying to use Pages 5.0, I soon noticed that all I could do was merely type in a new document and change various options via key commands. Neither the inspector or top bar menus would respond to any place I click. Similarly, Evernote only starts up on the last used note and merely allows me to scroll through it. The top bar menus, the note select pane, and even clicking inside the note to input text are all not functioning and uninfluenced by any mouse clicks.
I have noticed other apps that will not respond to any sort of input, but I still have not explored all applications to know what the issues of each may be. However there are some applications that work such as Safari, Google Chrome, dolphin, iWork '09 including Pages '09, and others.
I do hope that I can avoid rolling back my system, but in the meantime, it has been quite the obticle course to use my computer for all of my school purposes.
Any help is very much appreciated,
    Thank you!

  • How do I restore gid after installing Mavericks?

    Hi folks,
    quick question for you all.
Before installing Mavericks (I was running Mountain Lion), I was in the following situation:
I was user myname with uid=501, and
(besides other) I was member of a group called myname, which had gid=501.
    Now, after installing Mavericks,
I'm still user myname with uid=501,
    group myname still exists,
    but now has gid=20, and
I am no more member of it.
As a result, a few files / folders which were accessible before installation, are denied to me now (listing them in Terminal correctly displays them as assigned to gid=501, which unfortunately seems to be unknown to the system).
How do I fix this (apart from changing file permissions)? I presume I should just
take group myname and change its gid back from 20 to 501,
add back my membership to it.
But how do I go through first step? And, more importantly, am I at risk of doing something wrong?
(And why on earth would Mavericks do that?)
    Thanks in advance
    S

OK thanks I'll do that. I had actually upgraded to Lion, but when my data was read back to the new hard disk, obviously the upgrade wasn't. Thanks for your advice.
