Trouble Viewing PDFs in Preview

Hey all,
I am having trouble viewing PDFs in Preview 4.0 on my MacBook Pro, running Leopard (10.5.1). I can Quick Look the documents from my desktop (or any other folder) fine. However, when I double-click the document to open it in Preview, i get nothing. Preview opens, but does not display the document, or anything for that matter. I even tried to open PDFs from the Preview menu, but to no avail.
I just upgraded the internal hard drive, but everything else seems to be working fine, and this seems like a weird issue to be caused by a laptop upgrade.
Any ideas? I tried Disk Utility, but still nothing.
Thanks

Hi,
Have you tried deleting Preview's pref file? It should be located as a ".plist" file under preferences in your library folder.
Find the file "com.apple.Preview.plist" and move it to the trash for the time being. Run Preview again and see if that'll help. If this fixes it you can safely delete the .plist file that's in the trash.
Good luck.

  • Hi. i'm having trouble viewing pdf files in safari

i'm having trouble viewing pdf files in safari.

    Back up all data.
Triple-click the line of text below to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

  • I am having trouble viewing PDF's with Adobe Reader XI

I  am having trouble viewing PDF's with Adobe Reader XI

I am using Windows 7 home edition and using Internet Explorer 10

  • I'm having trouble viewing PDF forms in a browser

When I go to a business site for a manual and the format is using pdf, after viewing I cannot go back to previous page using the back button or the arrow back. It keeps returning to the pdf manual I was viewing. I have to click the arrow twice  or three times to return to back page and sometimes when clicking to many times it return to the beginning page. This has been happening to almost all pdf forms used by businesses or any other websites. Is there something I have tochange in settings?

    Hi Snakedog777,
How frustrating! What web browser are you using? Do you run into the same troubles when viewing PDF files on other browsers? And does the problem only exist with PDF forms--or are you having trouble viewing any PDF files?
For starters, please see Acrobat Help | Display PDF in browser | Acrobat, Reader XI for information about configuring your browser.
I look forward to hearing back from you.
    Best,
    Sara

  • Trouble viewing PDFs after installing Mavericks

Prior to installing Marvericks, I had no trouble viewing the PDFs on this site:
    http://dhrd.hawaii.gov/state-hr-professionals/class-and-comp/
Scroll to bottom and click on Class Specifications and Minimum Qualfiication Requirements.
    An excel spreadsheet is downloaded.
Open the spreadsheet and click on the link for any PDF.
It seems that after installing Mavericks, the documents open but the text is unreadable.
I tried removing the PDF viewer internet plug-ins from the library as one member had recommended for a similar issue, but that didn't work for me.
Anyone know how to resolve this issue?

    deleted.
I just get the giberish when I open your PDF reference.

  • Trouble Viewing PDFs on iMac using OS 10.7.5

I am having trouble reading or viewing certain PDFs, primarily from various web sites, on my Intel Core 2 Duo iMac using OS 10.7.5.  I have the latest version of Adobe Reader but certain PDFs are scrambled.  The sources for the PDFs are very random.  Can anyone help?

Will the PDF files open in another PDF reader on your iMac, such as Preview? You can find preview in the Applications folder in Finder if you haven't used it.
I would also double-check that you're not mistakenly using preview instead of Adobe Reader

  • Kernel panic when viewing PDFs in Preview

Hello. I have recently been digitizing documents to my Macbook Pro. When I try to open the resulting PDFs, my Macbook has a kernel panic and restarts.
When I open the PDF, Preview has trouble displaying it properly. It looks corrupted. Zooming out seems to corrupt the image more, until the laptop hangs and restarts. I tried to open a PDF in a different app (Skim) and the same issue occurred.
Thanks for any help solving this.

The panics are probably caused either by a bug in OS X or by a hardware fault, but you should rule out "VirtualBox" as a suspect by uninstalling it completely.
Any third-party software that doesn't install by drag-and-drop into the Applications folder, and uninstall by drag-and-drop to the Trash, is a system modification.
Whenever you remove system modifications, they must be removed completely, and the only way to do that is to use the uninstallation tool, if any, provided by the developers, or to follow their instructions. If the software has been incompletely removed, you may have to re-download or even reinstall it in order to finish the job.
I never install system modifications myself, and except as stated in this comment, I don't know how to uninstall them. You'll have to do your own research to find that information.
Here are some general guidelines to get you started. Suppose you want to remove something called “BrickMyMac” (a hypothetical example.) First, consult the product's Help menu, if there is one, for instructions. Finding none there, look on the developer's website, say www.brickmymac.com. (That may not be the actual name of the site; if necessary, search the Web for the product name.) If you don’t find anything on the website or in your search, contact the developer. While you're waiting for a response, download BrickMyMac.dmg and open it. There may be an application in there such as “Uninstall BrickMyMac.” If not, open “BrickMyMac.pkg” and look for an Uninstall button. The uninstaller might also be accessed by clicking the Customize button, if there is one.
Back up all data before making any changes.
You will generally have to restart the computer in order to complete an uninstallation. Until you do that, there may be no effect, or unpredictable effects.
If you can’t remove software in any other way, you’ll have to erase and install OS X. Never install any third-party software unless you're sure you know how to uninstall it; otherwise you may create problems that are very hard to solve.
Trying to remove complex system modifications by hunting for files by name often will not work and may make the problem worse. The same goes for "utilities" such as "AppCleaner" and the like that purport to remove software.

  • Possible to view PDFs in Preview app as facing pages?

Is there a way to view a PDF with facing pages in the Preview app? Like if you had a book open?
    (Other than slideshow?)
    Regards,

    Thanks,
Tried that, no luck. Are there any other settings I can try?
BTW, I can display the same PDF with facing page in DevonThink and Journler with no problems.

  • Trouble viewing PDF documents on iPad

I have transferred a lot of PDF documents to my iPad, and I am able to read most of them using iBooks. However, some of my documents contains just blank pages when I open them in iBooks after transferring them from iTunes to the iPad.
Any suggestions? Are there some specific requirements for PDF files to be viewed in iBooks?
Thanks a lot in advance for any advise!

    Thanks.
Yes, I am able to view the PDF documents on my desktop - both in Preview and Adobe Reader.
I have tried removing the documents into iTunes and the copied them back. I have even removed the documents from the iPad, then repeated the entire process of adding the documents to iTunes and syncing to the iPad - with no success.
I know that other PDF readers could do the trick, but what I am looking for is the specific requirements for PDF documents to render in iBooks.

  • Viewing PDF in preview, black rectangles around links

I've created a PDF in Microsoft Word 7.0, the PDF looks great in all applications except Preview on a mac. It would seem that all links in the PDF have a black rectangle around them, this only seems to be an issue in Preview, is this a known issue? As near as I can tell, no other applications seem to be interpreting these links as having boxes around them, this would lead me to believe that the problem does not lay with how the PDF was created.

  • Trouble Viewing PDF's in Safari

When I click on a pdf to read it, I get a black screen and a message  that " ADobe Reader blocked for this website"  If I click on the message, it gives me a window that allows me to Trust the site and then will open the pdf.  It won't allow me to download the pdf.  If I try to print the pdf, it give me black pages.  I can get things to work with Google Chrome, but I should be able to do it all in Safari.
What tdo I need to do to get Safari to fluidly read PDFs and to let me download them and print them?  I do have Acrobat Pro X 10.1.9.  But I can't find where in preferences to tell it to use this program and to Trust it. I have the same problem on my iMac with Lion and my MBP with Mavericks.

    This may help.

  • Having trouble viewing the print preview of sapscript

    Hi experts,
I am currently developing a driver program that calls 13 different sapscript forms (which are also customized - has n existing standards). so basically, the whole program and the forms are all from scratch.
I've already executed the call function open, write and close forms, but everytime i test the program in the QAS, (the part where you can choose the print preview and the output device)
and press the print preview button, a dialog box appears telling me:
WRITE_FORM is invalid, OPEN_FORM is missing.
But i clearly stated that in my program.
Can anyone tell me how am i suppose to write the call functions that will let me see the print preview?
Also, at this moment, i'm not passing anything yet from the program to the form, i just want to check if the form is being called.
    Thanks,
    Frank

    Hi Franklin,
    Order of calling OPEN_FORM,WRITE_FORM,CLOSE_FORM
    is  CALL FUNCTION 'OPEN_FORM'.
                LOOP AT ITAB.
                  CALL FUNCTION 'WRITE_FORM'  .
               ENDLOOP.
        CALL FUNCTION 'CLOSE_FORM'.
You know this order. Now as you are calling more than 1 form
we should call every form between
    CALL FUNCTION 'OPEN_FORM'.
    CALL FUNCTION 'START_FORM'.
    LOOP AT ITAB.
                  CALL FUNCTION 'WRITE_FORM'  .
               ENDLOOP.
    CALL FUNCTION 'END_FORM'.
    CALL FUNCTION 'CLOSE_FORM'.
    Try using this.
    Regards
    Lakshman

  • Unable to view pdf files sourced from websites

    Hi
I have previously had no trouble viewing pdf files from various websites, however am now unable to.  It appears to be loading and then just comes up with a blank screen.
I am able to view pdf files which have been emailed without problem.
I have removed Acrobat Reader & reloaded but this has not helped.
I am able to view pdfs on our laptop & ipad and the settings appear to be the same.
Does anyone know what I can do to resolve this problem?
    Thanks!

For Safari, you need to remove the adobe pdf plugins which Adobe apparently screwed up.  You need to remove:
    /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/AdobePDFViewer.plugin
    /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin
I think you can "get away with" removing just the second one.  But both for sure should allow you to open pdf's in a browser (all browsers).
If you are not using Safari the above will work for other browsers too, although in FireFox, you could just disable the use of those plugins from within Firefox (Tools menu --> AddOns --> Plugins).
