Trouble viewing some photos & acesss to library.... help??

When I open up I photo I can no longer find or see the library icons on the screen so I can find photos.   The only way I've been able to do it is to create a new message in Mail and "Browse Photos".   Then I see everything and can browse the events but what ever event I leave iphoto in, that's what shows up when I re-open it and I have no way to leave that event and find another without going back to mail.   I can't see or open the library or any of the folders that I've save in iPhoto.   Any ideas?
Also in some events the thumbnails look great but when I click on them to view the photo, I get a gray screen with a washed out "i" in it.  Don't know what thats about. The picture will show up when I re-size the window??  Again, any ideas?
Thanks

Move the cursor to the extreme left of the iPhoto Window until it becomes a '+'
Then click and drag right.
The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
Try these in order - from best option on down...
1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
2. Download <a href="http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/"><b><u>iPhoto Library Manager</b></u></a> and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new *iPhoto 08* library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

How exacly are you trying to import from the Photo Stream? Dragging from the stream to the events? Ctrl-clicking or right clicking?
If "Show in Library" does not show the event, then your iPhoto Library may need repairing or rebuilding;  try to run the iPhoto Library First Aid Tools, if you have not already done so. See this post by Old Toad on how to do it:    Rebuild iPhoto Library Version 11:

  • I am having trouble viewing some of my pictures on iPhoto. A triangle with an exclamation point in the middle pops up instead, what can I do to get my pictures to show again?

I am having a hard time viewing some of my pictures or event file in my iPhoto library. Most of my pictures look blank with a black background and a triangle with an exclamation point in the center of the screen. Is there a way I can fix this issue?

Are they RAW image files and not JPG files? iPhoto does not support all types of RAW files. Get a Real Image Viewing/Editing/Cataloging program which iPhoto is not.

  • I cannot view some photos in iPhoto' 11

I installed 10.7 successfully but some photos in my iPhoto library do not show.  Some events show blank and their contents show blank with a triangle containing "!".  I know the photos are there as they show up momentarily as I scroll the screen.  Individual photos show the capture information as well as face and location names but no pictures.  Blank events appear to be of most recent ones but some are older ones.  I would like to know a solution to this problem as I am in the middle of organizing recent events for publication.

What version of iPhoto? Assuming 09 or later
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.

  • Hi, I want to select some photos in my library and name them in order, e. g. "1980s 01, 1980s 02" etc. Is it possible some how?

I have so many pictures in my library and need to get them in order. I want to keep some pictures in the same folder, but in that folder I'd like to organize them in numerous order. E.g. pictures from the 80s, as in my question above, is there an app or function in iPhoto that helps you organize them in chronological order?

No - that is not how iPhoto works
First off folders do not hold photos - folders and albums are use for the type of organization you want and albums hold photos and folders hold albums or folders
is there an app or function in iPhoto that helps you organize them in chronological order?
That is the default way photos are organized in iPhoto - in event view look under the view menu  ==> sort events
A smart album can collect all of the pictures between two dates
Have you gone through the turorials - they would help you understand this - https://ssl.apple.com/findouthow/photos/  -  https://ssl.apple.com/findouthow/photos/
You can add titles to photos in iPhoto

  • Cannot edit (or even view) some photos...

Recently I got a new Olympus FE-190 6 megapixel camera. (My previous camera was a 4 MP). The first roll that I imported into iPhoto (version 6.0.6) worked fine until I try to edit or view a larger image. The thumbnails appear, but when I click to edit a photo from my new camera, a grey screen appears where a larger photo should be with an exclamation mark surrounded by a dotted-line square. It only does this for the 6 MP photos, which are 2816 x 2112 pixels. Also, these photos are the only ones I cannot put into a slideshow in iDVD. Any suggestions would be of much help.
    Thanks,
    Geoff

I'm having the same problem, my pictures are not on
my camera anymore so I'm going to have to try the
hard way. I'll keep you posted!
I found this article: iphoto edit gray exclamation
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303473
It has a few different ideas to solve the problem. All I had to do was select the thumbnail, go to photos in menu bar, select revert to original! Problem solved.

  • Trouble viewing emailed photos

    HI,
    I have new iPhoto 11.
I love the new email feature, but have had trouble sending to friends who have Windows PC.
Specifically, they can see the email and photos fine, but they are unable to import them.  The photos appear to be placeholders, or super low res.  I did click the box to include photos, optimized.
Any ideas?  This has happened twice...

Don't use iPhoto to send emails. It sends HTML emails and frankly, some Windows apps don't know how to work with them, and this is also true of a couple Windows users.
Send the Photos with Mail, making sure to send them as Plain Text emails. That way the receiver gets somethign that any app on Windows can understnd.

  • TS5174 We have iPhotos in a shared folder. When my partner tries to view some photos(not all) they flash open, then disappear. This doesn't happen when I log in and open them. Any ideas would be welcome. Thanks.

We have iPhotos in a shared folder so both my pertner and I can access the pictures.
Recently, when my partner tries to open some of the more recent pictures, they open briefly, then disappear. This doesn't happen with all of them, and there doesn't seem to be any link between those that do, and those that don't.
When I try to open them, they open with no problem, and remain open until I close them.
    Has anyone any solutions, please?
    Thanks.

A shared folder is not sufficient to share an iPhoto library. When you open the library from your account, the ownership and permissions of library items changes.
The safest way to share a library is to put it onto a separate disk or disk partition with the "Ignore Ownership on this volume" flag set. See this document on how to achieve this:
iPhoto: Sharing libraries among multiple users http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1198

  • Unable to view all photos in Aperture library

Only the last upload of photos are viewable.  Photos are on a Lacie external HD as is Aperture.  It does list the 407 Projects, 39512 photos but thumbnails of the events are blank.  I checked the Photo Filter and all boxes are unchecked.
    Any suggestions?
    Very nervous...... : (

Please tell us more, so we can get a clear picture:
    What is your Aperture version?
Photos are on a Lacie external HD as is Aperture.
Do you mean you have a referenced library, and the referenced originals are on your Lacie drive? Or is your library managed and the whole library is on the external?
Does  "as is Aperture" mean, that your Aperture application is also on the external?
How is your external drive formatted and how is it connected?
39512 photos but thumbnails of the events are blank.
In what way "blank" - do you see dashed outlines, or are they black?
Are your original image files raw or in another image format?
Do you have a current backup of your Lacie drive?

  • Some photos in iphoto library, but not in iphoto

iphoto 5, i have random photos in various folders that used to show up in iphoto, but after a plist issue and rebuild (which mostly went fine), these photos don't show up in the iphoto library or app. as an example, i have no photos showing up for september through december, 2003, although the iphoto library folders in finder show probably 150 pictures during those months. they're just not visible via iphoto, and in fact the filter-by-calendar function just shows those months totally grayed-out. i can't 'add to library' on these pics, because iphoto tells me the originating folder is invalid (meaning, i assume, that it won't 'import' from the exact folder it's going to import into, or something like that. any ideas on how to just tell iphoto to find all the non-duplicate images already in its own folders, and make them part of the 'library'? thx.

I'm having the same issue. I just got a new G5 tower and Leopard. I had a G4 iMac Flatscreen. I imported my iPhoto app.. got rid of plist, press option when I started iPhoto.. so it asks me to choose a library, I chose my iPhoto Library. I have well over 5000 pictures in there, but iPhoto only shows my first 167 pics! Hmmmm???

  • IPhoto 11 - Problem viewing shared photos

    Hi,
We have two MBP and we're having trouble viewing the photos from the other library via the Share function. The share is occurring through FW. Both MBP are running iPhoto 9.1.3. The issue is that MBP A can see MBP B's photos through share, but MBP B while it can see A's Shared library, it only sees black outlines of the photos and not the photos themselves. It's as if there is some sort of bug.
I should point out that I can see the photos once I click on the thumbnail previews, but the thumbnail previews remain empty, just outlined.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Clarified issue

    Hi, Terence,
It's setup within iPhoto. Turns out, if you have the thumbnail size set too small (to the minimum0, it shows them as just empty, outlined squares. If you increase the size a little bit, then the thumbnails can be seen properly. I tested this on the other MBP and it was true there, too, we just didn't notice it because the default thumbnail size was bigger.
    Cheers,
    Wilde

  • Diapresentation: some photo's are not there

I use Iphoto 7.1.5. I have a problem with the "diavoorstelling"/ slideshow. Some photo's are not displayed. I checked them but I donot see any difference between the photos that are displayed during the slideshow and the photos that are not. All photos are in the same map and have the same characteristics.
I tried to rebuild , using alt+ cmd , but it doesnot help: als photos are in Iphoto, but only some of them are used in a slideshow of an album that i chosse.
Is it possible that the use of PICASA gives these problems?
