Trouble viewing streaming video with Quicktime

This is a problem I have no encountered before, and I am hoping someone has an idea, because I'm fresh out.
A user has to take a class that involves her logging into a webiste with her own unique ID, and watching a video before it will allow her to take a test. It is a quicktime streaming video. When she attempts to watch the video, all she gets is a large quicktime symbol with a bar going back and forth under it, as though it were loading, but it never loads. Here comes the odd part. We had another user log into the website ont the same computer and she was able to watch the video just fine. We then had the original user try to watch on a different computer, and she was still not able to watch, though another user was able to watch the video with their own login on that computer as well. We believe it is a problem with her account on that website, but I am just curious if quicktime has any quirks that might cause this? Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks!

I cannot imagine that the problem is due to QuickTime or any other fault on the computer. If it were, it's highly likely that all users logging in from that same computer would have the same problem, and the problem would not be moving with that user to other computers.
I think it's almost certainly something amiss with your user's account on your server.
Regards.

  • Problem viewing video, something about an ad blocker. I had no trouble viewing streaming video until I downloaded firefox 4

I do not have any trouble watching streaming video on the Netflix website, but all other streaming video such as on a tv network or on IMDB.com comes back unavailable or blocked by an ad blocker. The only change to my computer I have done is upgrade my Mazilla Firefox browser. Something downloaded with it maybe that is blocking streaming transmissions. I need to know how to disable or bypass the problem.

The missing apps could have been done by setting the Restrictions that can hid those apps. If the backup was made with those retrictions set the the Restrictions are also restored.
Thus, if you get it to work restore to factory settings/new iPod, not from backup

  • Trouble viewing online video with Pismo

I am having trouble viewing video online. But not all video. For instance, I can view clips on YouTube without a problem, but clips that play on CNN.com or NBC.com (i.e.) stutter and do not flow smoothly.
Does anyone else have this problem? Is there a solution?

If you have not installed Flip4Mac, a free upgrade to support .wmv formats, you should do so.
That is a well know problem. It is caused by the processor-intensive decoding required by some video formats.
The solution is to upgrade your PowerBook to a newer old Mac with a G4 or better that includes faster and more advanced numeric processing.
If your videos appear in a player with controls, waiting for the download to complete before allowing the movie to play improves the situation. In QuickTime Player, you can "step" through ALL the frames as fast as possible (but with no sound) by using the right-arrow key. This will show you what you missed when it jumped frames to keep up.

  • How do I Capture Streaming video with Quicktime Pro?

In Lamonts post about converting video for the iPod, it was pointed out that one can capture streaming video (Steve Jobs Keynote speech for instance), with Quicktime Pro. I have QT7.04 Pro, but don't know how to do this simple thing. Can someone please tell me?
    Smartmart

it's possible. i did it myself, after a few tryouts.
i still can't get the best result, but i got something.
first of all you have to save the streaming file(thru the save as qt movie, from CTRL-click). when you get a stream it gets cached on your computer. you might playback it even when offline. so if all that you need is a simple playback, that's ok. but it's a cache, sometime the system will erase it from your HD.
if you want to keep it as a qt file(or any other format) thats this is the deal. when you save the stream file, it saves a reference file(4kb) that reads the cache. you cannot recover them from the cache, not even by changing the termination, because the qt player won't recognize the .qtch files transformed into .mov.
open the file(reference you saved before), choose export from the file menu, and choose the setting that you want. i still don't get a good quality(i know it's incredible that a stream file has a better quality...) and i still have to export the video separated from the audio. but if you need only the moving image to edit a homevideo, and your only source is a stream, it's a start.
so if anyone feel like growing the knowledge tree, let's go ahead.

  • Problem viewing streaming video in some wifi networks, but not others

When I am at work (university), I can not view YouTube videos or video streaming from news sites such as cnn mobile on my ipod touch 2g.
    <m.cnn.com/videos.jsp?ckey-cnn)06#__1_>
When I called Apple support, they had me reset-restore. I still had the problem. I went to the Apple store Genius bar and the problem no longer existed, the videaos downloaded and played from both sites!
But at my diner and at work, I get the message, "This movie could not be played" in a popup box with an OK button. The same message appears if I use the YouTube application. I click on any video, and the same popup appears. In Cnn the popup is preceded by a shaded capital Q that looks like the blue Quicktime Q; in Youtube the pupup is preceded by a YouTube icon in gray with the "Tube" surrounded by the rounded rectangle, their icoon...
At the Apple store the popup never appeared, and the videos downloaded and played.
I have no trouble playing movies I have downloaded from iTunes.
I did not have this problem when I initially got my iPod Touch, and I think it appeared after one of the last two system upgrades, but I am not sure.
I am curious that it the problem happens at two places, my diner and at work.
The speed of my wireless work network, as judged by the ipod app speed test is 9915 kbps download and 6971 kbps upload, so plenty fast.
The first time I noticed this issue was with the application "At Bat Lite" which also won't play video highlights at work.
I do not have WiFi at home
Any thoughts about what would cause this lack of functionality apparantly only at some networks but not others?
Oh, one more piece of data: at work a Macbook will play YouTube both on ethernet and using wifi...
Thanks for any thoughts or suggestions,
    Paul

It seems I have two networks available at work, one is behind our firewall, and I login to it. This is the network that I can't view streaming video. There is also a "Guest" network that I don't need to login to. This one works with the YouTube and the news site videos.
Thus, I conclude there is a setting that WiFi network administrators can invoke that specifically can block streaming video on some protocols (whatever the ipod touch uses) and not others (whatever the Macbook uses). But the same router hardware supplying the Guest network does not block these protocols. Presumably this has to do with security on one side of the firewall(?)
Anyway, apparently outside of the WiFi controls available in the ipod touch settings.
    Weird...

  • How do I create a JMF streaming server with QuickTime Web Client?

Can anyone give me some pointers on how to create a JMF streaming server and user can type in a rtsp URL on the web browser and be able to view the streaming video in QuickTime player?
    thanks

JMF does not have RTSP server capabilities built-in. You would have to program the RTSP request-response protocol yourself.

  • Recording streaming videos with sound

Can I use quicktime for recording streaming videos with sound? If not which Apple software can do it?
    Bye Christof

You can use Quicktime to record streaming video +with it's audio+ by using a very simple trick. Using the same cable you connect your iPod/iPhone to your car's stereo system, connect your Mac's Audio OUT to its MIKE IN jack. I used FILE / OPEN URL to select the video stream source, then selected FILE / NEW SCREEN RECORDING. In the resulting 'Screen Recording' dialog box, I set the AUDIO slider all the way to the right, and under the arrow to the right, selected "Built-in Input Line In" for the microphone. I then used the appropriate controls to play the stream and record it. The resultant file was very acceptable. Good luck.

When i save videos with quicktime player it takes ridiculously long

    Hi Tim ..
    Reinstall Safari 5.0.6 for Leopard
Then restart your Mac. Try Safari.
If it crashes again, uninstall the Flash plugin then reinstall new > Troubleshoot Flash Player | Mac OS
Quit then relaunch Safari. From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Empty Cache
Right or control click the Safari icon in your Applications folder then click Get Info.
If the box next to:  Open in 32 bit mode  is selected, deselect, quit then relaunch Safari.

  • IPhone viewing Streaming Video in other formats

I am considering an iPhone, however, I am curious if the iPhone can view streaming video in other formats such as wmv. I have tried on a friends phone and it didn't work. Is there a plug-in for the iPhone that can be installed to do this?

My suggestion is to go to the feedback site (which I will list below) and tell Apple your suggestions directly. Not a promise that they will be included but at least you are getting to the right set of ears.

  • Stream video with Adobe Flash Media encoder

Looking for a video camera capable of streaming video with
    good quality and decent price.
    What camara should I buy?

I'm not sure if the Vixia series can be used to provide realtime video to a PC.  They're not really designed for this purpose - they are primarily recording devices.

  • Viewing streaming video

I recently had help using this forum so i'm going to try it again. I downloaded windows media player to view my saved media player clips. i use mozilla firefox, now when i go to a website to view streaming video, it tells me i need a plug-in. when i go click on the link i'm given, it tells me to download windows media player. My question is, if i have already downloaded windows media player, why won't it work viewing streaming video and how do i get it to work?

It's always been available - back from the initial beta distribution several months ago. Just check out the forums by using that handy-dandy search function....there are 10 threads on this (the latest UB F4M beta) - here is the last one..

  • View dvcPRO-HD with quicktime?

    Hello,
I am editing a project in dvcpro hd, I copied all of the media to a second drive as a backup.
My director wants to take that drive and view the files with quicktime on her g4 laptop.
Is it possible to view dvcpro hd quicktimes on a computer that doesn't have fcp on it?
Would it work to copy the codecs out of my quicktime library into hers?
    Thanks much for any info.

You can't view the DVCProHD files without the codecs provided with FCP... AFAIK, they are all that is required.
