Trouble with 5G iPod Freezing

Hey all, I just bought the 5G iPod and Iam having problems with it already. I put a movie on it by using "Handbreak" with MP4. The movied played great through iTunes, but it kept freezing up when it played on the iPod!!! It was also forming green boxes on the screen. The movie would freeze up and put these green boxes in random places, never in the same spot!! Please tell me that it can be fixed and that nothing is wrong with my iPod but I used the wrong program to get the movie on my iPod!!

PS I don't know operation system on my ipod classic, but on my mac book pro i am using (11.0.2) my mac os x (10.6.8). So, I try to take a quess at my os my classic

Holding down the center/select button and the menu button will reboot your ipod. See if that helps. Also, I'd recommend something else- I had nothing but trouble with my ipod classic until I spent $20 to get Mac OS Mountain Lion. It did what you said and sometimes wouldnt play, or wouldnt power on...
Try rebooting your ipod and let me know what happens and maybe in the future obtain Mountain Lion to aide your ipod in functionality.
    Good luck!

Mt computer has been freezing up on me lately and I think it messed up my Ipod when it quit right in the middle of downloading and got shut off.

That's because you jailbroke your phone. You can't get help here.

    Troubleshooting
As with all clickwheel iPods, you can reset this iPod by first toggling the hold switch on and off and then simultaneously pressing the select (center) and menu buttons for approximately 5-10 seconds. This is a common fix should your iPod behave unexpectedly or lock up. Once reset, the iPod should display an Apple logo for a few seconds before showing the main menu. This procedure is similar to rebooting a computer and damages none of your music or data.

I am having trouble with the ipad2 freezing up causing me to restart the tablet.  How can I fix this?

Doubt it is a Hardware issue...
If the Reset and the Restart have not Resolved the Issue...
Then the Next Step is a Restore...
    Restore...
1: Connect the device to your computer and open iTunes.
2: If the device appears in iTunes, select and click Restore on the Summary pane.
3: If the device doesn't appear in iTunes, try using the steps in this article to force the device into recovery mode.

  • I am also having trouble with my cursor freezing after installing Mavericks. Never did it before. I called tech support at Apple and they had me restart computer and mouse together from a complete shut down. So far has seemed to work.

I am having trouble with my cursor freezing between applications after installing Mavericks. Called Apple on my 3 year warranty and opened a case. They suggested a complete shut down of computer and turning off mouse. Then a reboot and turn on mouse. So far iit has seemed to work. Hope this continues??
    Hope it helps others.

I think you can solve your problems by removing your AppleID email address from BOTH the Messages setting on your iPhone and the iMessages settings on your Mac.
    On iPhone:
    Settings > Messages > iMessage > Dissabled
Settings > Messages > Send & Receive > touch the "(i)" < touch "Remove This Email"
    On Mac:
    Open "Messages" application
    Click "Messages menu > Preferences
    Click "Accounts"
    Select your AppleID account
Under the "You can be reached for messages at" settings, uncheck your AppleID email address and your phone number
Then uncheck the "Enable this account" setting
And lastly, ask all of your friends with iPhones to delete all iMessage conversations (blue bubbles) in their entirety.
To test, send a friend a new text using their phone number (not their email address) and watch the color of the bubble.  If it's green then you are using SMS.

  • Trouble with itunes ipod and windows vista

I just got a new computer with windows vista home premium (32bit) and i am having trouble syncing my ipod with itunes.
when i connect the ipod it asks me if i want to scan and fix the drive, if i click continue without scanning it sometimes wont let me sync, and if it does it only gets about half my music on there before saying it is unable to write to it (unknown error 53)

I have a similar problem, with my new iPod Touch crashing an XP Professional setup. It's worth noting that the Apple article also talks about potential USB conflicts with other devices on the system that might have bad drivers. They say the solution, if that is the fault, is to make sure all your USB drivers are good. I'll try that, by a process of elimination, before re-installing iTunes (as I thought I had the latest version and I don't have Vista). I'll come back here later to report the outcome.
(serious if your iPod crashed your PC - can't even charge its battery ! )

  • Serious trouble with new iPod - maybe you can help?

Please help if you can. 15 hours into troubleshooting this and I am desperate!!!
I just purchased a new 5th-gen, 60GB ipod. I already have a 1st gen, 10GB iPod. My old iPod is presently working great with no problems.
The new iPod, however, is not being recognized by my computer or by iTunes. And when I try to plug it in, iTunes freaks. It will stop playing music and freeze on me.
    Here is what happened:
    1. I knew I had the latest iTunes & iPod software on my computer, so rather than running the CD that came with the iPod, I just plugged in the iPod.
    2. When I did so, the computer recognized it as a new device and attempted to (I assume - not sure) install a driver for a while. This went on for about an hour, something seemed wrong, so I disconnected the iPod.
    3. At this point, connecting it always has the same behavior. It flashes "don't disconnect". ITunes freezes. Windows Explorer does not recognize or acknowledge its existence.
Here is what I have tried to do:
    1. I first tried installing from the CD. This installed an older version of iTunes on my computer. This did not help matters and stopped my current iPod from working.
    2. I troubleshooted this and managed to fix my old iPod by uninstalled all iTunes and iPod versions from my computer and reinstalling all of the latest bits.
    3. I have doublechecked my USB ports to ensure they are USB 2.0.
    4. I have tried restarting my iPod in file mode to see if the computer will recognize it then. No dice.
    5. I have tried an iPod reboot, obviously.
    6. I have restarted my computer innumerable times.
My gut says this is a driver issue, but I'm not remotely qualified to troubleshoot that. Can anyone help?

Hey, I've got a few questions for you. 1. What kind of computer are you using? (ie: laptop, desktop, whatever else there is..) 2. Have you ever had the 5th Gen. working on you're computer? 3. Have you tried you're 5th Gen. on another computer which, in the past, has detected an iPod?
Done with questions for now I believe. Here's my story. My girlfriend got her iPod (5th Gen.) in April and right when she got it, she hurried over to my house because she's "technologically incompetant". Booted up my Alienware (now an artifact after being purchased new around 1998-2000) and installed all the gadgets just like the instructions said. After finishing all that, I slapped the iPod into a USB2.0 port and WindowsXP detected, found, and installed the driver for the iPod. I used iTunes to put about 500MB's of songs on there then sent her off with her new WORKING (at the moment) iPod. A few weeks later, I guess when she killed the battery, she tells me that her iPod isnt working.
    Long story short...
She's using a brand new Dell Inspiron [some number and letters here] laptop computer with WindowsXP.
I did everything exactly as you had described in your first post. Few things are different, her computer has never detected the iPod, WindowsXP never found or installed a driver. When her iPod is plugged into her computer, the iPod either brings up a little battry with a lightening bolt (like it's charging) or brings up the "Do Not Disconnect" screen. After a few hours of leaving it like that and I unplug the iPod, it hastn't gained any charge. I checked to make sure everything, ie: plug and play, were all working correctly and all that good stuff; however, one thing phases me. I took her iPod back to my house and tried it on the computer that had the player working before. After a minute of plugging it in, it was detected and I could add or remove songs using iTunes, in other words: IT WAS WORKING.
I would like to see some kind of solution to our problem (which I believe to be the same) so that I don't have to drive an hour away to the only iPod (Mac) store around to replace it (luckily it is still on the warranty).
If you make any progress, please let me know.
    Thanks.

  • Trouble with itunes + ipod

I recently had a problem with my ipod. I was in the car and my ipod was freezing up. I would turn it off and turn it back on and it would freeze again until finally it froze and it didn't let me turn it off. So it stayed on until I got home. I tried to plug it into my computer and I reset it and did everything www.apple.com/support/ipod told me to do (including the 5 r's). Well my ipod is working now but I decided to upgrade to 6.0 itunes. I did and now when I have my ipod plugged into the computer, it takes literally 20 minutes for itunes to load up. Then when it does, it doesn't read my ipod on there. I listen to the ipod and it sounds as if its turning itself off and on continuously. Is there anything I can do to fix this problem? It's quite frustrating. (my ipod is the 20 gig (which was actually 18.5) ipod that came out last year and I'm running it on windows xp)
ipod 20 gig   Windows XP   itunes 6.0

I had the same problem with that, except I didn't use it in my car. What I did was I checked here, and nobody helped me so I sent it in (it was still under warranty).
Maybe you should send it in?

  • Trouble with my ipod mini

after a month of having my ipod mini. I've been having trouble with it, since I had a 15gb before. I know that this is unusual. for instance, a week ago my ipod wasn't responding at all, dead as can be. then I hooked it up to my computer and proof! the Mac icon is showing. now a couple of days ago, it happened again. but this time nothing is working, what can I do?

The most likely cause is a worn out battery that cannot hold a charge.  When it is connect to USB, it gets power from that connection so it works as expected.  When you disconnect it, the battery cannot hold the charge for more than a few seconds, and it dies.
Having the battery replaced by a shop is likely to not be economical for an old iPod mini, compared to the current gen 16GB iPod nano that is available on the Apple refurb page for $99

If you are good at fixing small electronic devices, this web site has repair guides

(It is not designed to be taken apart by the user.)
The part is available on eBay and other online sources.
NOTE:  The tiny hard drive in the iPod mini is supposedly compatible with a standard compact flash card, including much higher capacity than 4GB.

  • Music troubles with my iPod Touch and earphones!

Just recently I willl choose a song to listen to on my iPod Touch but tyhe sound wont play, even though it says that it is playing. So, I have to unplg and plug my earphones back in. Then it works again, until next time. Whats wrong with my iPod Touch???

    - Have you tried a different pair of headphones?
    - I would also try resetting the iPod:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Yo may have a hardware problem since with use the headphone jack can go bad.

  • Having Trouble With My Ipod HELP ME OUT!!!!!

There's a problem with my ipod every time i plug it into my mac it connects then disconnects right away not letting do anything. Then it says its syncing with my mac before it disconnects and then there's nothing on it, and when i try it on windows it just say it need to be formatted and i did it once but nothing happened. I restored it and still the same problem happened i need help any advice would be useful or should i just take it to the genius bar.

Was the restore successful? That is the iPod successfuly went through all the steps without error? If so then
that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
