Trouble with a type drop shadow.

When viewing a Golive web page in Safari, or even an old IE browser, some type (which I assigned a color to) looks fine, but in Firefox, a drop shadow of the same color is being created. I see nothing that could possibly cause this. Any thoughts?

It looks like there's a function in a document-level JavaScript named SetFieldValues that you need to copy over as well. I don't know the exact menu item for Acrobat 8, but for 9 it's: Avanced > Document Processing > Document JavaScripts

  • Problems with pdf and drop shadow/opacity in quark

I have created a piece of artwork in Quark 7.5 which consists of a round picture box (which has a drop shadow). The picture box is positioned so that it slightly overlaps 2 large circles of colour. These 2 circles overlap each other also - the bottom one is a solid pantone colour, the top one is a pantone colour but with an opacity of 75%.
After creating a high quality pdf file, the pdf does not display (or print) these circles/picture box correctly. It looks as if there is a slightly transparent square picture box just below the round picture box but on top of the coloured circles. This only appears to happen when the round picture boxes are positioned on top of the circle which has the 75% opacity.
I can't figure out how to fix it. I tried making the coloured circles cmyk instead of pantone but that didn't fix it. I've also tried increasing the resolution of the drop shadows in the pdf settings but that didn't work either.
I don't know if this is a Quark issue or an Acrobat issue. I tried changing settings in both applications but can't fix it. Can anyone help?
(I've attached a medium res version so you can see what is happening - it's the 3 round picture boxes at the bottom).

I used the pdf facility in Quark (export as PDF) but I also tried creating a .ps file through the print facility in Quark and then distilling the file in Adobe Distiller and this didn't work either.

  • IWeb objects with funky box/drop shadows

Anybody know why the irregular shaped objects that I'm inserting from Illustrator into iWeb pages are showing up with square, drop-shadowed boxes around them when published? I never used to have this problem, perhaps it is related to software changes that I have no control over, or is there something I can do about it? Thanks! Nancy

@3DNancy, @OT, you should give them feedback and tell them to fix it, using firefox webkit instead of canvas:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/iweb.html
ot's workaround does not in iweb photos page.
here is my ff webkit example:

    and my photos page example:

  • Trouble with DV Type 2 AVI audio in Premiere Elements 11

Please see the two screen captures below.  G-Spot says my clip is DV Type 2 AVI which Premiere Elements 11 supposedly handles well.  G-Spot says both the appropriate audio and video codecs are available on my Windows 7 x64 PC.  Main Concept DV codec is installed.  The camera was a Sony Handycam vintage 2000 and the clip captured by Firewire.
When I load the clip into Elements 11, the audio is compressed in length relative to the video.  I get about 11 seconds of high pitched warbling and then no sound for the balance of my 67 second clip.  You can see the audio profile flatten after 11 seconds in the Timeline view.  I do notice that the audio preset for Elements is 48000 sample rate, and my clip is at 44100.  If this is an issue I do not know how to fix it in Elements.
The clip plays fine, audio and video properly synced, in Windows Media Player and AVS Video Creator.
I am able to use AVS Video Creator to strip the audio from the clip, output it as a .wav file, and use it to replace the audio track in Elements. However, I have hundreds of clips to edit; this method will cause substantial brain damage.
Is there something I can do to get Premiere Elements 11 to process the audio properly?

    Harmon,
    Great news!
Not sure why that other app. would Encode the Audio to MP3, as that is non-standard (though MP3 is a fairly common format/CODEC - just not in a DV-AVI).
Sorry to hear that you have that extra step, with those particular DV-AVI's, but at least you do have a workaround for them.
Not sure if you will be outputting to DV-AVI, but if you do, the Audio choice would be that of the DV-AVI files that do work - PCM/WAV @ 48KHz 16-bit. That will create files, that are about as "plain vanilla," as it gets with PrE.
    Good luck and happy editing,
    Hunt

  • Troubles with the type associations

    Hello forum,
The type and extension association is really delicious, it's time this happens!
I've been trying it with moderate success, here are a few experiences, I would love advice for better results:
    - first the example at http://java.sun.com/javase/6/docs/technotes/guides/javaws/developersguide/syntax.html#example
is non-well-formed. It's not long to fix but annoying.
I managed to make a first "jakarta commons jelly" web-start-application associated with .jelly files. The application can be found at:
    http://klein.activemath.org/jnlpDev/webstartJelly/webstartJelly.jnlp
    - on the Mac (10.4 i.e. jdk 1.5), this kind of works:
    - the first launch launches the main
    - the SingleInstanceListener is called at every double click on a jelly file, great! but the parameters are the original parameters (the javaws command behaves correctly though with -open).
    - on Windows (Windows Server 2003, jdk 1.5), the association just doesn't work, the windows-explorer tells me to search for an application (and doesn't propose me Webstarted Jelly as it should). Do I need to restart ?
Any help for these two problems would be greatly welcome.
    thanks
    paul

http://klein.activemath.org/jnlpDev/webstartJelly/webstartJelly.jnlp..hmmm. With 40 separate jar archives in this
application, I cannot say I am keen to try it
(at least not at this time of night, with my
    connection bandwidth!).
How big is the application (all up) in bytes?
In any case, I have some examples as
    well (much smaller) at..
    http://www.physci.org/jws/
    Most relevant are..
    http://www.physci.org/jws/#fs
    ..which uses the FileOpenService
and claims a .zzz file extension, and..
    http://www.physci.org/jws/#sis
    ..which deals with the SingleInstanceService
(unfortunately, I chose not to claim any
associations for the SIS example, but
you might download both build files and
copy the association from the file
service example JNLP, into the single
    instance example.)
    - on Windows (Windows Server 2003, jdk 1.5),
the association just doesn't work, the
windows-explorer tells me to search for
an application (and doesn't propose me
Webstarted Jelly as it should). Do I need to restart ?I have never needed to (on Win XP).
How does that PC go with my file
    service example?
..also, I only just noticed this, but while
the JNLP from my example has ..
    <association
        extensions="zzz"
mime-type="text/sleepytime" />..to claim a file extenstion, the current
version of the launch file linked above -
    has no <association> element defined.

  • Shading screen captures with drop-shadows

    Hi there, everyone.
I have a bunch of screen-captures (.png) that I need to darken/shade so I can highlight a particular button or text box. The trouble is that these screens all come with a surrounding drop shadow, which I don't want to darken/shade. The images are all of different dimensions, but the drop-shadow is always the same, so I was hoping to insert a gray box (with rounded corners, in case that matters) via script or action that is a fixed number of pixels (x by y) smaller than the canvas (and a couple pixels north of center).
Anybody know how to do this, or have a better idea?
    Thanks!
    Dave

On the Mac at least those window-shadows are transparent and have RGB-values of 0/0/0, so one need not mask them out if one clipping masks a black layer to the window’s screenshot and reduces that layer’s transparency according to taste. (Clipping Mask can be created by setting »grouped« for the top layer to »true« in JavaScript.)
Edit: Sorry, I assumed you were talking about screenshots of single windows, but you probably mean screenshots of the whole desktop, so above would be of no use to you.

  • A image with a drop shadow on a shaded background

When I make a copy from my color printer of my PDF that has a image with a grey drop shadow on a grey shaded background. I get a shaded box around the image. This does not happen when I print from my b&w laser printer. The PDF was exported from Indesign, I had digital prints from the Indesign file and they are ok.

  • Help, Drop Shadow filter with strange glares in CS4

    Hi,
I've made a symbol for a logo design in Ai CS4 in wich I applyed some Drop Shadows to some elements (white arrows).
The problem is, when I enlarge the symbol (approximately 110 x110 mm), strange glares/"ghosts" appear around the elements that have the Drop Shadow applied to.
There are no Pantones in this, just CMYK colors.
    See the image please: http://www.grabup.com/uploads/01773c95e72416002699e3d3e4800428.png
(the strange glares/ghosts are the ones pointed by the red arrows, the Drop Shadow dialog box, corresponds to the red highlighted white arrow on the left with the blue drop shadow.)
When I turn to Outline mode there are no vector paths there, so it only shows this glares/ghosts in normal/preview mode.
This only happens when I enlarge this elements, and the Blur (in the drop shadow) begins to have a large number applied to it (example: blur: 9 mm).whn I Rasterize or Expand Appearance the elements with this drop shadows, the rasterized image maintains the strange glares/ghosts.
    The glare/ghosts completely disappear when:
    - I reduce the size of the logo/symbol;
    - In the Drop Shadow dialog box: Instead of the Color, I choose Darkness (but I need this to have a blue color in shadows not grey/black).
    - In the Drop Shadow dialog box: I reduce the size of the Drop Shadow Blur (with 5mm or less of Blur, the glare/ghosts vanish)
    Is this a Illustrator bug?
The only solution for this is to reduce the amount of Blur aplyed to the drop shadows elements?
If so, what happens when I have to enlarge this logo to a bigger size, say... an Outdoor?
    thank you!
    (sorry for my english)

    Hi Bob,
Thanks for your reply (very prompt!)
Yes I read that article and thankfully was already exporting using Acrobat 5 (PDF 1.4) so that wasn't an issue.
So now I'm waiting on the printer's reply as I've emailed him a link to that article!

  • Fading A Drop Shadow - Missing 'Layer Mask Hides Effects' in CS5

I'm using CS5.  I want to create a fading drop shadow on a shape/box. See the attached image below.
In Photoshop, this is easy by doing:
    1) Create shape
    2) Add layer mask to shape layer
    3) Click gradient, set gradient to Multiply, and set gradient colors to white to black
    4) Drag gradient where you want it on the shape.  The drop shadow will actually bleed through the middle of the shape, and not just on the edges, which is unwanted.
    5) Open up layer styles, under Blending Options, select Layer Mask Hides Effects and it will get rid of the drop shadow showing up in the middle of the shape and you will be left with perfect, faded drop shadow on the edges (see below for finished product).
Firework is missing step 5.  There is no Blending Options and there is no Layer Mask Hides Effects.   Or if there is, I have no found them. I am using CS5.  Any ideas how to accomplish this in Fireworks?

Clone the shape. Change the color of the clone to gray and, in the properties panel, change its edge type to feather.  With the clone still selected, choose Commands > Creative > Auto Vector Mask. Select the bottom, left mask type by clicking on its image, and then apply it. In the layers panel, click on the new mask group to select it. Click on the black masking object on the right of the two linked objects to activate the gradient adjustment handle. Shorten and rotate the gradient until you get the effect you want.

  • Text drop shadows (via CSS)?

    Hi guys,
Hope everyone has had a great summer!
Quick question: I have white type with a dark blue image behind it. I'd really like the white type to pop more off the background with a text drop shadow (CSS generated drop shadow, not rasterized), can't get it to work. I found this simple video...
    https://plus.google.com/117443384307509478210/posts/1h3EVw4jvmf
...however doesn't seem to be working for me. I'm selecting the text box the white type is in -- the box has no fill and no stroke -- trying to get the drop shadow to only effect the text. Or, is this not possible for some reason(?)
Thanks in advance for your help!
    D

The simplest way to create a text shadow is like this:
    .section p {
        text-shadow: 2px 2px 2px #000;
        font-size: 150%;
Now your HTML may be something like this:
    <div class="section">
        <p>Your sample text goes here</p>
      </div>
This works in FF 14.0.1 but don't know if it is going to work in IE9 or in other major browsers.
    Good luck.

  • Strange drop shadow on menu when build

i am importing a psd file into dvdsp for a menu. the text from the psd, only at the bottom of the menu, is creating a funny gray drop shadow when i build the project. it doesnt appear when i simulate the project and none of the other text in the psd is creating a problem. I have tried adding or subtracting a drop shadow in psd, removing the text from the psd and creating the text in dvdsp, with and with out a drop shadow, extending the BG color solid under the text in psd, and removing the other layers in the psd, nothing works. any help is much appreciated

The only way I can make it go away is to save the file as an illustrator ai file and use that for pdfs. This would be OK, but other suppliers need to use the file and want eps format
EPS is simply unsuitable when dealing with transparency (which is what your drop shadow is). So you need to work with AI for placing in InDesign. If other suppliers need EPS, then just send them that. Nothing should keep you from exporting another file format.

  • Add drop shadow to vector map

    Hi,
I have troubles in adding a drop shadow to a vectorized map (in *.ai format).
All countries are separated by a white thin line, so that it is possible to highlight a certain country of interest in another colour.
When these countries have been selected, I would like to add a drop shadow under the map outlines, ie under each continent.
But everytime I try to do so, the drop shadow also gets under each country.
My guess is that I have to group the countries within a continent or something else, but I fail each time I try.
    Does anybody have a clue?!
    Many thanks in advance
    Annika

    Annika,
    What happens if you:
    1) Select all countries in the continent and copy to the back (Ctrl/Cmd+C+B);
    2) Pathfinder>Merge the copy;
    3) Effects>Stylize>Drop Shadow applied to the merged copy?

Anyone else having trouble with their iPad dropping wifi about once a week since 6.0.1 update?

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • Why don't transparencies and drop shadows show right in pdf on Firefox ?

    Hello,
We have display problems with transparencies and drop shadows in pdf that we upload on our website.
When these pdf are opened on Firefox the areas where we have used transparencies, drop shadows and color gradation end up in grey boxes.
This is a real problem for our society which only operates on the web.
You can find below some links to pdf that are particularly affected by this display issue :
(grey boxes have appeared on the header, some pictures that were a bit transparent are missing on page 2)
(same problem on the header, on page 2 color charts are completely lost in grey boxes, on page 3 same problems with the color charts)
(same problem on the header, on page 4 color charts are in grey boxes)
Viewed on different web browsers these pdf show fine.
The issue is that all our website and our turnover are based on these pdf documentations, which could be viewed by a customer using Firefox.
We are aware that changing our pdf viewer would be the solution but only for our computers and we cannot make all our customers change their pdf viewer.
Are you aware of this problem ?
Do you have a solution ?
Can you keep us in touch ?
    Thanks

Hey I found out from the developers that this is actually fixed in version 29 via Bug 965861. Try the pdf viewer in the next version of Firefox, this will take care of that gradient. :-) Cheers.
