Trouble with beat marks in imovie 09

Must be me but here is my situation. The first 15 seconds of my project is an avi with audio to it. I want to insert 75 pictures to an audio file that plays after the first 15 seconds with beat marks. I am having trouble doing this. I can't find a tutorial that lets me do this. "An helpers out there?

I see this was a MP4 clip brought into iMovie from iPhoto. The encoder is given only as AVC. Was the original clip from a camera shooting AVCHD? I am surprised that the audio is good since often AAC is a problem and also the rate is 44.1KHz not 48 which is standard for video. What camera did you use? iMovie 10 should work with AVCHD but it is highly compressed and can be problematic depending on the power of your computer. You might try converting the clip to Quicktime movie with prores 4.2.2 encoder using MPEG Streamclip which is a free download.

That is great news!
I have been working with PrE 11 for some time now, on an older laptop. It is still running XP-Pro SP3, so is 32-bit, with that version of PrE 11. I have also run into the "end-of-life" for my nVidia video driver, unless I change the OS. Now, and with that said, I have experienced several lags with the CTI, and also several instances where the Spacebar will not start the Timeline's playback, even when I know that it has focus.
Because of my older hardware, and one known issue with my video driver, I hesitate to complain about the CTI performance (and a few other issues), as it might not be related to PrE 11, but just to the hardware.

PS - I have my new super laptop, but have not had time to set it up, install the 64-bit PrE 11 on it, and test with a new, killer nVidia card. When I can block off a couple of days, I will do so, and then report whether I encounter such "glitches" with the new hardware.

Trouble with accent marks like João

Hi,
Any time I import a cd into my itunes and the artist's name has an accent like João, I have trouble.
Sometimes all the other albums I have by that person might disappear until I mess w/ the tags and file locations forever until I finally do something that works. Other times I might get 2 copies showing up...one that will say Joao and another that will say João...if I delete one of them, the other will disapper too.
Anybody had trouble with this? Anybody have a solution other than messing w/ the files for 45 minutes until everything shows up?

No, no. Don't reduce the number in the prefs, and You DO want complete and download PPD fonts checked.
DId you try resaving with the same fonts in Freehand and making sure you chose to embed them? I was never a Freehand user, so I don't really know what options are available.

Having trouble with the thumbnails in iMovie

I'm using iMovie on my Mac os x 10.9.4, and i upload video clips from my camera (Cannon Vixia) to i movie, but recently i noticed that iMovie has ben moving slower and slower, after that all of the thumbnails in my video library were just a blank blue thumbnail and would only show the content if i scrolled over them.
Also when i start on a new movie, it will not show me the video content of each clip, but will show me the audio waveforms. everything play's perfectly fine, but not being able to see what clips i'm using makes things exceptionally difficult.
I've considered that it may be that i have too many videos in iMovie, but shouldn't those videos take up memory on the computers hard drive itself?

Does iMovie use every beat marker?

I am new to using beat markers. I set up a song with beat markers and dragged in photos and videos. I noticed that iMovie didn't use every beat marker, especially ones that were close together. I also noticed that it didn't seem to line up the beat to the dead center middle of the transition each time. (I do have snap to beats selected) Is this the way it is supposed to work? Regardless, the result was pretty good. I'm just not sure if that was coincidental or if imovie is just that smart as to where to line up the transitions.

Project worked perfectly with snap to beats, and suddenly no further snapping worked.
The problem - I added a transition near the beginning. It didn't affect existing timing, they were still perfect, but it disabled all further "snap to beats" placements.
Just delete that one transition and "snap to beats" worked again.

Shouldn't really be the MPE at fault here ... what is the codec of the footage/sequence/project?
Second, can you create a new project in PrPro, then in the media browser, import that sequence from the other project?

I am having some trouble with my computer, what happened was: I was playing on a game, I played with a magnet, it started to go slower and slower, I pressed F9 then it went slower and then it went to a blank screen with a flashing document with a question mark on it. I tried the original OS X installation disk but when it came to choosing the area of which I save it, it showed no areas.

Startup your Mac while holding down the Option key. That should prompt the Startup Manager window where you can select the startup disk then click Restart.
If the startup disk is not available from that window, you may be able to repair the disk.

I am making a slideshow in iMovie and I added beat marks to my background music. But before the music starts I want a silent 5 second title slide.

I first added a song to my project and added beat marks using the "tap M" feature where I want a beat mark. Then I dragged in a number of still photos. The photos look great. Changing to the beat of the song. But now I want to add a Title Text window at the very beginning, have it on the screen for about 4-5 seconds, and then start my slideshow to the music. The problem is when I add that text window to the begining, the song wants to start there. I want it to start on the first photo. Can anyone help?

Looking up your camera online, I found it is capable of 1920 x 1080 Full HD 60p Recording. It's the 60p (60 frames per second Progressive) that's the problem I think. iMovie '11 will do 60i (Interlaced). You might need to convert it from the format the camera currently uses into another format to get it into iMovie. Use ClipWrap to rewrap to QuickTime. Import the files. Edit in either 59.94 or 29.97. The latter if you want to use the high frame rate for slomo

I have used impvie for a long time, and I have never had any trouble with it. I am currently making an imovie with many photos. It seems that the higher quality photos don't play when I put them in the project. The previous photo simply replays but looks distorted. What should I do?

What type of photos - jpgs, tiff files?
And at what size?

Trouble With Exporting Quality with iMovie HD

Im a first time user of iMovie HD and was having trouble with the qqaulity of my footage when im exporting or sharing it out to quicktime in a dv file.
When i connect my camera to a TV and watch the footage it seems a lot clearer in comparison to when i 'share' it out of iMovie HD. It seems to lose a lot of its quality. Does anyone have any suggestions? I obviously want to get the best quality i can, can anyone help???

Don't worry, it's a bit on illusion!
The quality that you see in iMovie is not representative of the quality you will see on your TV from the final DVD. This shoulkd be almost indistinguishable from what you see on your TV from the camera.
This is intentional, in that the quality is reduced (as far as what you see is concerned) in order to save 'extra labour' in the Mac's processor.

Big Trouble with iMovie

I recently upgraded to a new graphics card (ATI Radeon 800XT) to support an Apple 30 cineman display on my Dual 2.5 GHz PowerPC G5.
All other applications (iPhoto, Freeway, Photoshop, Safari) seem to work fine. However, iMovie doesn't. The application opens from the dock and reads files, but I can not activate anything with a mouse click in the iMovie window. The elements in the window are totally nonresponsive. I can however, close, export and do other menu-driven things in the iMovie control bar.
Some things I've tried:
1. I deleted the iMovie preference files (I found only one)--no help
2. The imovie files in question are on an external drive--but that drive works fine and can be accessed directly
3. I was having trouble with frozen start-up when I first set up new graphics card. I figured the computer was trying to read the old graphic card's driver. I delted all items with the old graphics card name and that fixed the start-up problem. When I put these back in it does not seem to help the imovie problem
Any ideas?
Any chance that reinstalling iLife will help?

Trouble with characters with accent marks

Hi,
I have an Indesign document of Quebec. Many town names have characters with accent marks on them but when i create my PDF they show up as a small black box instead. Is there any way of fixing this, other than converting my type to paths?
I'm on a Mac using Indesign v3 and Acrobat v7

Beat marking on more than one song?

Hi guys,
I have video and photo footage that has a duration of more than 1 piece of music.
I would like to add another song with beat markers so I it can sync nicely throughout the whole video however I am having difficulty in completing this task.
Can anyone recommend the best way to do this?
I know the beat marking works when you have just the 1 background music but I would like to add more than one song.

How about joining these 2 songs on an external audio editor, saving it as aiff (so you won't loose quality) and dragging it to iMovie to beat mark? You'll probably loose the work you've done so far, but I have not found another way around this.
Makes sense?
