Trouble with burning

When I try to burn a playlist, iTunes keeps telling me there's not a blank cd in the drive - but it is blank! Does anyone know why I keep getting this error message?

You might want to check to see if you have the correct burner selected in the preferences box. To do that do the following:
1. In iTunes click on EDIT
2. Then click on PREFERENCES
3. Then click ADVANCED
4. Then click BURNING
For the CD Burner drop down menu make sure that the burner you are trying to use is selected. Then click OK.
Hope this helps

  • Free - Alternative DVD apps - trouble with burning

    Hello All,
I am still trying to help my son burn the video.
He made his movie in iMovie; it's 63 minutes long, and he got it into iDVD and made menus and such. When he tried to burn it, he ran into issues, though. Selecting any of the encryption options (even Pro, which is supposed to be able to handle movies that long) led to an error message when burning. After trying to prepare the menus, the message was that encoding the menus did not work (no specifics or anything). Any guesses as to why this is happening? Or can anyone recommend another program (preferably free) that would be capable of burning a movie of this length?
    Thank you! Jim

    What version of iMovie?
Any way you can get iMovie HD6? Works great with iDVD 8/9 since it is .dv format.
Be sure you have set iDVD's encoding preferences to either High or Professional Quality...not Best Performance, which is for movies less than 60 minutes.
Check the settings on the menus and submenus to be sure their durations are not too long. He will have to open the inspector window and manually move the slider to make the menu durations shorter.
Be sure that he did not use unauthorized audio in the menus.
Be sure to set the burn speed to slower....4x or less.
I have not made a DVD from iMovie 8 or 9, still sticking with version 6, but I do use iDVD 8/9 (they are the same), and I am running 10.5.8, too. I have had no trouble with iDVD and do find it simple--just so you know that it does work well. Most of my movies are just under 2 hours, most with many chapters, and most of them 30-75 GB in size.
If you could post the error messages, it might help us find out where the problem is.

  • Trouble with burning only CDs

    I'm confused.
Do brand new unused CD-R disks deteriorate over time? Or do I have a faulty Optical Drive?
I don't burn discs often so I'm no expert.  I've got a stack of CD-Rs (around 50 I think) that I have gradually been working through over several years.  I'm getting towards the bottom of the stack until now I'm looking at the last 6 or 7 blank discs of that stack.
I keep trying to use these discs but my iMac won't even boot them onto my desktop.  To eject them I have to restart my iMac and force them to eject by holding down the left mouse button while the iMac starts up. Disk Utility can't see them.  Up until recently my CD-Rs have worked fine.  In fact it wasn't until I wanted to update my Disk Warrior (DW) CD that a problem began to appear.
I tried to update DW.  All appeared fine.  I used the newly burned DW Update in my iMac.  DW got part way into loading (most of the way in fact) and then froze. I've been using DW and it occassional updates for many years and this was the first time that I had used an Alsoft Update CD and have it fail to boot up. So I binned it and tried again assuming the CD-R was a duffer.  So I burned another copy, tried it in my iMac and it worked fine.
So I had two DW discs. One duff, one okay.
My Dad had a problem with his iMac.  I used the duff disc (just curious, you know). Somehow it now worked fine!
Lately I can't get any of my remaining CD-Rs to appear on the desktop and I have to restart, holding down the left mouse key, to get then to eject.
I bought some CD-RWs.  These worked fine for a while.  So I inferred that the original CD-Rs had degraded to unusability somehow and thought no more about  it.
    Until today.
I was in a hurry to burn some documents to a CD-RW but the process failed on the verification stage. Could reading be a problem but burning be okay I wonder?
All discs work fine on my daughters MBP I noticed.
I now find that only blank CDs appear on the desktop.  Some commercial CDs and ones with home made content get spat out again after the drive spend a minute or two making chugging noises.  Then again other such CDs work fine or work okay the next day.  DVDs don't seem to be affected - mostly. Hybrid SACDs work one day, not the next.
Most confusing, but the trouble I get burning anything reliably makes me think the drive itself could be on its way out.  There are no software settings that I have touched let alone think of.
I wonder, is there any software available that I can use to test the device out?   The Internal optical drive is an OPTIARC DVD RW AD-5630A.

I tried a different brand of disk, but it only copied up to half way through song 9 and not finishing the rest, and gives me the same message. can anybody help?

  • Trouble with burned DVDs

Hi, my iBook has stopped reading burned DVDs or CDs. Also, it does not recognize blank discs to burn new material onto them. It plays commercially bought DVDs and CDs just fine, but when a burned or blank disc is inserted (even ones that it created), it spins it around a few times then ejects it. The discs I've been using do play on other computers, just not mine.
What could be the problem, and how could I fix it? Would you suggest finding an external drive, or doing internal work? In every other way, this is still my perfect computer, and I would love to keep using it to make DVDs.

    Hi,
It does sound like the Optical drive Lens is on its way out, I would suggest going with a external DVD burner, as it will be much faster and a whole lot cheaper then getting the internal replaced.

  • Trouble with burning a cd

When I go to burn an Audio CD onto a CD that is able to have 80 minutes
of music on it, iTunes says that the songs in the playlist will not fit
on one CD but the total time is under 80 minutes.

This information has come from another user in these fourms. After you get the cd

  • Trouble with Burning and dragging music to playlist

Hello, I have recently downloaded the new version of ITUNES and I am having some problems. One is I can't burn cd's. It's not that it wont let me, it's that the option doesn't exist. I've searched everywhere throughout Itunes, and cannot find out how. My other problem is I also can't make playlist. In the other version, I would simple drag the songs I wanted to the desired location. Now I can't drag them anywhere! Please help me.

Check the songs you want to burn from the playlist. Delete any songs by highlighting the song and then press
"shift-delete". Put in your new cd-r disc. Then look on the right bottom of the screen and there should be burn cd button. Push it!

  • Trouble with burning mp3 CD

Okay, so I recently tried to burn an mp3 CD and it did that fine.
But when I went to listen to it, the way it was burned was every artist in a separate folder and so I cannot read on my CD player what song is playing, and it makes it hard to find something to listen to.
Is there any way to make it so that this does not happen? It never happened before I had iTunes.

Well I made a playlist and then I put a CD in and burned it, however I changed the format to burn an mp3 cd first, so it wouldn't be an audio one.
All of them are in .mp3 format and no, none of them are purchased from the music store.

  • Trouble with my newly burned DVD's

I am having trouble with my newly burned DVD's which are produced using iDVD. They seem to play a couple of times then start freezing (usually on DVD players). I played one last night on my mac and it made a horrible grinding noise which you could hear slowing until the disc and movie froze completely. This is causing me much concern as I am burning DVD's as part of my wedding video business for newly weds.
    I have a few questions
    1. Is there a manufacturer that produces high quality DVD's to ensure my clients get the best.
    2. Is there a chance that my mac DVD burner might be glitchy?
    3. Does my mac DVD player/ burner need cleaned regularily?
    4. Is there external DVD burner that I can buy that would ensure high quality DVD burning process?
    5. I print DVD covers to stick onto the DVD's. Does this reduce quality or effect the playing process in anyway?
amy experience/ knowledge would be appreciated.

    Hi
I can only try to answer - BUT I'm an Amateur - and can not give 100% Professional advices and take NO responsibility for how they may affect You. But I will try as best as I can.
    1. Is there a manufacturer that produces high quality DVD's to ensure my clients get the best.
    • I only use Verbatim DVD-R as they play well (There also is Tayio Juden - never had any possibility to try these)
    2. Is there a chance that my mac DVD burner might be glitchy?
    • I set down burn speed in iDVD (x4) to get as few burn errors possibly
    3. Does my mac DVD player/ burner need cleaned regularily?
    • Mine does - I run a Cleaning DVD from time to time
    4. Is there external DVD burner that I can buy that would ensure high quality DVD burning process?
    • Yes but I've doubt that the result will be any better or worse - MY OPINION - I've got a ForeMac DVD burner as last resort.
    5. I print DVD covers to stick onto the DVD's. Does this reduce quality or effect the playing process in anyway?
    • NEVER PUT ANY LABLE OR STICKY DEVICE ON ANY DVD or CD - as they will lose in stability and result will be a MAL-Functioning DVD (or most probably not working at all - especially DVDs)
I do - use printable DVDs and use printer that accepts DVDs. They look as Pro Quality DVDs

  • I have an '09 mac book pro with an iDVD 7.1.2 (1158) and I'm having trouble DVD burning.

I have an '09 mac book pro with an iDVD 7.1.2 (1158) and I'm having trouble DVD burning. I attempted to burn a DVD but the following error message appeared - 'Burning preparation error. Not enough free disk space for encoding the remaining assets. iDVD needs 6,541 GB of disk space to encode the remaining assets, but only 2,179 GB is available at "Macintosh HD". I've moved several items over to an external hard drive but this error message remains. How do I save this movie to the preferred external hard drive?

You can move the iDVD project file to the EHD but you still need plenty of free space on your boot drive for encoding.
It's strongly recommended that a minimum of 20-25 GB of free space be maintained on the boot drive.  Otherwise you'll run into what you're experiencing and increased encoding times.

  • Trouble with sorting albums

I have two troubles with itunes:
occasionally my albums have their "out of" track numbers removed. so in the track # column it does not display "(track number) of (total tracks on CD)" but instead only displays "(track number)"
    And
occasionally the LAST song of an album will above the FIRST song of the album instead of the staying as the last song. I have tried everything and cannot fix this without re burning the CD. I don't want to have to do that as I do not have my CD collection with me.
How should I go about fixing these and making sure they dont continue to happen?

Generally setting a common Album Artist will fix things.
For deeper problems see Grouping tracks into albums.
If iTunes won't accept changes to the tags see Repair security permissions for iTunes for Windows.
If iTunes appears to accept your changes but the original values reappear later then the files are likely to be mp3s with multiple tags. In such cases iTunes only updates one of them and may later read back the unchanged data from the other. To fix this select the tracks in question in iTunes, right-click and use Convert > ID3 Tags > None, several times, then use Convert > ID3 Tags > ID3v2.3. You will need to reinsert any embedded artwork.

  • Trouble with SQL Expressions

    Hello everyone,
I'm having trouble with this SQL expression that works in 8.5, and XI R2 runtime and designer, but I cannot edit the expression.  As soon as I open the SQL Expression and click the X-2 check button, the error following
SQL Expression I'm trying to run:
    (Select Distinct b1.CandEmploymentType
        from ceistaffing a1
        inner join ceisubmittal b1 on a1.submittalid = b1.ceisubmittalid
    Where a1.Staffingchainid = CEIHRPROJECTEDACTUAL."STAFFINGCHAINID"
        and b1.createdate in (Select max(b2.createdate) from ceistaffing a2 inner join ceisubmittal b2 on a2.submittalid = b2.ceisubmittalid where a2.staffingchainid = a1.staffingchainid))
The Errror I Receive After Clicking the X-2 button:
    Crystal Reports
Error in compiling SQL Expression :
Failed to retrieve data from the database.
    Details: ADO Error Code: 0x
    Source: SalesLogix OLE DB Provider
Description: The multi-part identifier "CEIHRPROJECTEDACTUAL.STAFFINGCHAINID" could not be bound.
Native Error:  [Database Vendor Code: 181797304 ].
    OK
This is the SQL statement passed to the database:
    SELECT (Select Distinct b1.CandEmploymentType
    from ceistaffing a1
    inner join ceisubmittal b1 on a1.submittalid = b1.ceisubmittalid
    Where a1.Staffingchainid = CEIHRPROJECTEDACTUAL."STAFFINGCHAINID"
    and b1.createdate in (Select max(b2.createdate) from ceistaffing a2 inner join ceisubmittal b2 on a2.submittalid = b2.ceisubmittalid where a2.staffingchainid = a1.staffingchainid))
If I reverse the order of the where clause as follows, I do not get the error
    (Select Distinct b1.CandEmploymentType
    from ceistaffing a1
    inner join ceisubmittal b1 on a1.submittalid = b1.ceisubmittalid
    Where CEIHRPROJECTEDACTUAL."STAFFINGCHAINID" = a1.Staffingchainid
    and b1.createdate in (Select max(b2.createdate) from ceistaffing a2 inner join ceisubmittal b2 on a2.submittalid = b2.ceisubmittalid where a2.staffingchainid = a1.staffingchainid))
This is the working SQL statement passed to the database.
    SELECT (Select Distinct b1.CandEmploymentType
    from ceistaffing a1
    inner join ceisubmittal b1 on a1.submittalid = b1.ceisubmittalid
    Where CEIHRPROJECTEDACTUAL."STAFFINGCHAINID" = a1.Staffingchainid
    and b1.createdate in (Select max(b2.createdate) from ceistaffing a2 inner join ceisubmittal b2 on a2.submittalid = b2.ceisubmittalid where a2.staffingchainid = a1.staffingchainid))
    FROM   "sysdba"."CEIHRPROJECTEDACTUAL" "CEIHRPROJECTEDACTUAL"
I figured I would just reverse the where clause statements, but then I came to this one that I couldn't get to work:
    (Select case when tmp.restartcount = 0 then 'F' else 'T' end from
(Select Count(b.restart) as restartcount from ceistaffing a inner join ceihrprojectedactual b on a.staffingchainid = b.staffingchainid
    where a.candcontactid = (Select distinct candcontactid from ceistaffing a2 where a2.staffingchainid = CEIHRPROJECTEDACTUAL."STAFFINGCHAINID")
    and b.restart = 'T'
    and a.createdate = (Select min(a1.createdate) from ceistaffing a1
                   where a1.createdate > (Select max(a3.createdate)
                                  from ceistaffing a3
                                  where a3.staffingchainid = CEIHRPROJECTEDACTUAL."STAFFINGCHAINID")
                   and a1.candcontactid = a.candcontactid)) as tmp )
I've burned an entire day trying to find some solution.  Are there any patches out there that will fix this?
    I'm running Crystal Report XI Release 2 SP2 - Version 11.5.8.826
    Thank you, ...Rob

Okay, to simplify the illustration of the problem Iu2019m facing, Iu2019ve created a bare bones example as described below:
I've created a report that returns all contacts from our "CONTACT" table.  On the report, I've created a SQL expression to return a count of all contacts with the similar last name, as shown below:
    (Select count(a1.ContactID) from CONTACT a1 where a1.LASTNAME = "CONTACT"."LASTNAME")
When I try to save the SQL expression,  I get this error:
    Crystal Reports
Error in compiling SQL Expression :
Failed to retrieve data from the database.
    Details: ADO Error Code: 0x
    Source: SalesLogix OLE DB Provider
Description: The multi-part identifier "CONTACT.LASTNAME" could not be bound.
Native Error:  [Database Vendor Code: 205193720 ].
    OK
This SQL expression works fine in CRW 8.5, but no luck in XI R2 SP4 - As mentioned above in the thread, this seems to be an issue solely with how XI R2 is parsing the SQL Expression.  If I remove the "A1" alias from my expression all is good, but that will not work for some of the more advanced SQL expressions I have that are using joins and sub queries.
What will it take to get this recognized as an issue worthy of a hot fix?  I'm at a stand-still here, facing the unfortunate possibility of having to re-architect many of my reports.  Please help.
    Thank you, ...Rob

After installing Mountain lion to my mid 2011 imac 21" I am having trouble with my internet connection.  Anyone else have to deal with this?

Are you on 10.8.2 as ypur profile says? If so, it's worth updating to 10.8.3 which was released last week.

Here's a link to some suggestions that helped some users with similar problems in Lion. May still be relevant to MLion. Also check the links within the article:

Also when I had wifi problems in the past, creating a new network location resolved it:

I've also seen threads where users with wifi problems have successfully solved them by changing the channel in the router's wifi settings.
