Trouble with Connectivity and with internet dropping

I seem to be having the same problem as everyone else. I just got this computer a few days ago and this problem is driving me crazy. My laptop is a Toshiba Satellite C75D-B7260 with 8.1 windows. Any idea what might be the fix?
I cannot even update the computer because I get kicked off the internet.
Thanks.

    Hi Chuck,
TenFourFox is the most up to date browser for our PPCs, they even have G4 & G5 optimized versions...
    http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox/
I'd avoid vesrion 24 though, as it no longer supports plug-ins like Flash.
SeaMonkey seems pretty fast also, with many options...

    http://www.seamonkey-project.org/releases/
Might also look into iCab & OmniWeb versions.
    Also...
The last really supported Flash for PPC was 10.1.102.64, but if it's for like Facebook or such, people have been fooling FB to think they have a leter version installed.

Download this http://www.steelbin.com/FPforFBPPC.zip to your desktop, unzip it, and replace the current Flash Player plug-in which is in your main/Library/Internet Plug-Ins folder, (not the user Library). Save the old one just in case this one doesn't work.

  • Is anyone having trouble with internet on the new macbook air and an old modem?

Is anyone having trouble with internet on the new macbook air using an old modem?
I live in NYC and have an old modem/router and keep getting kicked off the internet. I have time warner as my internet provider.

    Hello there adell723,
I suggest taking a look at this article we have named Troubleshooting Wi-Fi issues in OS X Lion and Mac OS X v10.6 found here http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4628?viewlocale=en_US.
Symptom: The network connection drops unexpectedly
Your Mac may not not stay connected to your Wi-Fi network reliably.
Your Mac may stop accessing the Internet during use.
    Solution
Use these steps if your computer disconnects from its Wi-Fi network unexpectedly.
Check your range to the Wi-Fi router and reduce the effect of interference. If your computer is too far from your Wi-Fi router or your environment has too much Wi-Fi interference, then your computer may not detect the Wi-Fi network properly. The easiest way to check for range limits with your Wi-Fi network is to move your computer or your Wi-Fi router closer together and make sure that there are no obstructions (such as walls, cabinets, and so forth) between the router and your computer.See Potential sources of wireless interference for more information about interference and solutions.
Try connecting to a different Wi-Fi network. If your computer works fine when connected to a different Wi-Fi network, then the issue may be related to your network router or ISP. In that case, contact the manufacturer of your router or your ISP.
If you have Mac OS X 10.8.4 Mountain Lion installed then I would recommend using Wireless Diagnostics tool which is on your computer already.
Here is the article for it and how to use it to assist with wifi connectivity issues.

Maybe you should test these things before calling people out, because these settings do function perfectly well.
iCloud is not supported on Snow Leopard or lower, why bother to mention it?
The OP has an iCloud account, and that can not be opened without Lion or Mountain Lion (on a Mac), IOS5 or 6 (on an iPhone/iPad)
The document I linked to is Apples documentation for iCloud on current devices,I don't care whether you believe that you know better than they do, but it will affect the people who follow your advice as it won't work

  • Firefox 3.5.1 on WinXP automatically switches to "Work Offline" when a connection to the internet drops. User must un-click "Work Offline" for it to work once a connection has been restored. Why?

Firefox 3.5.1 on WinXP automatically switches to "Work Offline" when a connection to the internet drops. This was not the case with earlier versions. Why is this necessary? Is there an option/preference setting to change this?

    # Yes, if you go to accounts.firefox.org, sign out, you will now be signed out.
    # Sign back in, and you will be asked to save the password you entered.
    # This will save the password and autocomplete if you have this option turned on.
I am not exactly sure why the menu did not detect the password change or if it was stored incorrectly after you changed it? But after storing the correct password you can manage any duplicate passwords in the password manager.[[Password manager - Remember, delete and change saved passwords in Firefox]]

  • Having trouble opening connections and reading from Bluetooth devices.

    Hello,
As the title states, I am having trouble opening connections and reading data from a Bluetooth device. We are using a PDA to communicate with LabVIEW. First, the Bluetooth Open Connection VI displays a timeout error half of the time. Second, when it does open, it does not read what the PDA is sending. Third, if it does allow an open connection, it will not do it a second time unless the devices are turned off.
I also have another related question. I am using a Linksys Bluetooth USB adapter, and the driver is proprietary. Labview requires the use of a Microsoft driver, and we are having problems going back and forth between the drivers. What Bluetooth receiver would you suggest using? The reason I ask is the fact that you have Bluetooth examples of client VI's. Therefore, you must use a similar device. Thank you for your time.
    -Jon

    Hi Jon,
I'm not sure what Bluetooth receivers were used to verify the functionality of the VIs. However, I still want to help you solve your issue. Please make sure that you are running the shipping examples and let me know what version of LabVIEW, what PC OS and what PDA OS you are using. Does the Microsoft driver work for your Bluetooth receiver if you uninstall the Linksys driver?
With your answers I'll do my best to help you out.

  • I'm having trouble staying connected to the internet

I'm having trouble "staying" connected to the internet.

    hmmmmmmm..........
How are you connected to "the internet?"  There are many ways & you provided none.
If wireless, are you using one of Apple's routers, or a 3rd part one?  If the latter post in their forums or contact their tech support department.
    Last but not least:
Please detail all you have done to resolve your issue.  Need this information so that the users can avoid the "been there, done that" scenario type responses.  This is to avoid repeating the troubleshooting you may have already tried.  Thank you.

  • Anyone having trouble with IMac dropping internet connections? inter

My IMac is dropping my internet connection?
Any ideas or suggestions on what is causing this?
    george

I too have this problem but I've had it for about 2 years.  We used to think it was because I was on wi-fi and I was getting interference.  I moved the modem closer and that didn't help.  Then my ISP kept telling me it was my Dlink modem so I chucked that modem out and went with my ISP's modem.  That didn't solve the problem but at least my ISP couldn't blame it on other equipment.   I then moved the modem right beside my iMac and I was still loosing the connection  while on wi-fi.  I got so fed up that I have hard wired my iMac right into the modem and it's still happening.  Ive had my cable company out here a zillion times trying to trouble shoot this.  They changed all of my cabling from the road to my house and from my house to the computer.  They gave me a new modem and then they gave me another new modem but a different brand.  I'm still dropping my internet connection every few minutes.
The one thing that I discovered with my provider is that I'm not actually loosing connection to the internet as they don't see my internet dropping at all.  It's as if the signal comes and goes on this iMac and when it goes, I'm left with my curser doing the whirley-bird until it reconnects to the net.  Usually takes 5 minutes or so but it eventually comes back.  My wi-fi is fine with my iPad and my iPhone but it wasn't with this iMac.  I've been on Leopard, Snow Leopard and Lion and I've had the same problem with all three OS's on this iMac.
I'm totally at a loss as to why this is happening.  It's very frustraging and makes it near impossible to use online banking or booking flights etc because I can't keep a connection long enough.
Anybody have any brilliant suggestions to try?

I just had my logic board replaced. i am now having trouble with using the interent even with a strong connection. all other devices are having no problem with the internet. please help

Test while started in Recovery : if the problem persists, then it likely is a hardware issue.
Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) probably won't change anything, but you can readily do it before contacting the repairers.

  • Trouble with internet connection after update to Snow Leopard

Happily surfing the internet with the most recent update of Tiger until deciding to upgrade to Snow Leopard so that I could connect to a wireless printer. Noticed almost immediately that Safari was spotty, sometime normal, but often painfully slow. Have checked forums that suggest dumping caches, reseting Safari, repairing permissions, doing fresh install of SL. Nothing has worked. Can't even get internet with Firefox. Internet connection seems to work after I start up, but then fails after 5-10 minutes. Most of the time it doesn't work at all. Doesn't seem to be a problem limited to Safari since Firefox won't work either. Phone support tried saying that SL likes a WPA router connection and not WEP, which is the current setup.
Finally, I decided to boot to my clone of Tiger. After a little bit of fussing around setting up the internet connection over Airport everything works just fine! What's wrong with SL and how can I fix it. Really like the iLife11 upgrade and being able to print wirelessly, but if I can't get internet access that makes it rather pointless. Know this is a lot and rather hastily written, but please help!

    Hello
Sorry, I have no answer to your problem. I just want to share that I amexeprience similar issues with my iMac since I upgraded to Snow leopard :
The LAN connection of the iMac slows down after accessing Internet, usually less that one hour. I can measure it through an Internet throughput utility on my provider's home page.
I have two Macs connected on the same DSL box, with the same OS version, Snow leopard, and nearly the same sofwtare configuration. Thus I can compare the Internet access speed :
After starting the computers, it is above 12 Mb/s.
On the iMac that I use most for Internet, it slow down to more or less 2 Mb/s after a few minutes, whereas it stays at 12 Mb/s on the MacMini.
Because of this, I believe it is LAN problem, not an Internet/DSL problem.
The same phenomenon happens if I connect to my DSL/Router with Ethernet or with Airport. The speed drops to similar values, below 3 Mb/s. Thus, the problem dose not seem to be related to LAN connection hardware.
Curiously, the speed is high again after shutting down and restaring the iMac. But it slows down again after a few minutes. Putting the computer to sleep does not help to restore maximal speed: it has to be shut down.
From all this, I draw the conclusion that the problem lies in a LAN software layer that is common to Ethernet and Airport and that is restarted only after shutdown.
I am using the MacMini as a reference for Internet access performance, in order to have a benchmark for iMac performance. I hav enot tried yet if the LAN performance of the MacMini collapses in a similar way if I use it to surf on the net.
I hope this will be helpfull do draw some attention from experts at Apple. It looks like a bug in a Snow Leopard LAN software layer.

  • Anyone having trouble with internet connection after downloading mountain lion

After installing Mountain lion to my mid 2011 imac 21" I am having trouble with my internet connection.  Anyone else have to deal with this?

Are you on 10.8.2 as ypur profile says? If so, it's worth updating to 10.8.3 which was released last week.

Also when I had wifi problems in the past, creating a new network location resolved it:

I've also seen threads where users with wifi problems have successfully solved them by changing the channel in the router's wifi settings.

  • Why am I having trouble with Internet connect?

I have just set up a broadband connection using a USB modem on my phone line. I have to reconnect each time I wake the computer from Sleep as the Modem gets its power supply through the USB port. Sometimes it takes several attempts to establish a connection. I have checked the configuration (several times). Is the problem most likely to be:
    a) With Internet Connect ?
    b) With my ISP?
    C) With the modem?
    G4 ibook   Mac OS X (10.4.8)
    G4 ibook

    My guess, the modem.
It's probably taking some time for the USB modem to power up, perform its startup tests, load its configuration and be ready to respond to the network.
It's one of the reasons I never recommend USB DSL routers.
If the modem supports direct power (vs. being powered by the USB line) you can try using that - at least that way the modem won't power down and need to do its whole startup process again. Either that or replace the USB modem with an ethernet-based one that won't have this problem.

  • I have a MacBook Air version 10.6.8.  2.13 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 2 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 memory.  I'm having trouble with internet connection.

I have a Macbook Air 2.13 GHz 6MB, 2 GB memory and I'm having trouble getting connected to wifi or internet.  I've already checked the airport.  I've also verified the connection on the router.  I am still not successful in getting connected.

Delete all the existing wireless networks you have stored in the MBA under the network setup of the wireless card.
Power off the MBA and power on again and then rediscover the wireless..
    Any luck??
If you still have issues.. more info.. what router are you using? How much wireless signal do you get? Can other devices connect and it is just the MBA that has trouble??

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

it may be that there is another network on same channel or close by so you can try downloading inssider2.2 (istumbler if MAC) and then run it. This will show the broadcasting networks round about you and their channels including your own. If you then enter your router and change your wireless channel to a free or less congested channel.
