Trouble with Copy and Paste

Im using captivate 7 and when editing a slide element such as atext caption, image or anything really, I cannot copy and paste an item. It makes a sound when I try command C but does nothing. Right click shows options only for slide but nothing for copy options.

Are you trying to copy/paste a Title/Subtitle Placeholder or a normal Text caption? Can you please post a screenshot of the object's Right Click menu so that we can understand the issue better?

Problem with copying and pasting text blocks in Fireworks CS5

Until recently when I copied and pasted a text block in Fireworks CS5, the block would retain all formatting applied to the copied text block, font, size, color, etc. Now, the pasted block reverts to some default setting. Oddly, if I copy multiple text blocks, the formatting is retained as expected, but not if I copy a single text block. I cannot find a preference that affects this, and I cannot figure out what might have changed. The current behaviour is definitely not desired, and is dramatically affecting my efficiency. Anyone experienced something similar or have any ideas how to correct this? Thanks.

Sure, thanks for replying so quickly. My workflow is simple. My problem is limited to copying and pasting within Fireworks. I typically select an entire block with the main selection arrow but I sometimes use this one too depending on the context. I usually just use the keyboard CTRL-C then CTRL-V to paste. Previously (and I have been using FW for years, it's always been the same) it would paste an identical text block directly over the top of the copied one, and it looked exactly the same, same font, same color, etc. Now, it pastes a new block in the center of the document and all the formatting has reverted to what I guess is the default, in this case Myriad Pro 12pt. The behavior is the same no matter which arrow I use to select the text block. I tried Edit>Copy and Edit>Paste, the effect was the same. The Duplicate function seems to work as desired, but I had never noticed or tried that command before reading your post. Using the keyboard to copy/paste is such an ingrained habit I'd much prefer to continue using it as I always have instead of trying to retrain myself. (I'm old, retraining is hard!)

Most often I copy and paste directly on the canvas, but occasionally will do it within the layers panel. Both now have the same undesired effect. I also tried creating a new document to see if it was a corruption in my current file, but the issue persisted to the new document as well.

Problems with copy and paste document size

Using Adobe illustrator I have been copying images from a .pdf and then pasting in photoshop having made an action script which does : -

with copy
most of the time it works but occasionaly pasting into photoshop the clipboard size is wrong it makes it much much smaller,
even if i bypass using the script and copy from illustrator and in PS try Ctrl N and Ctrl V.
Sometimes also clipboard isnt even selectable it wants to use a specific document size.
The only way I can fix it is close down Ai and PS, launch Ai and PS, copy in Ai then in PS press Ctrl N for New, choosing clipboard, Ctrl V to paste enter to confirm, then it seems happy and I can then carry on using my Actions or manually pasting to my hearts content.
My question is what is causing it to have this quirk, how can I avoid it if possible or is there no avoiding it?

Generally a bad idea. Word's HTML formatting is notoriously
flawed. And,
HTML doesn't allow tabs. You probably need to take time to
learn (X)HTML &
CSS before going further. You seem to be headed for disaster
if you expect
to just grab text from Word and plop it into a web page with
good results.
Web pages are in an entirely different world than Word docs.

Memory Error in PSCS4 with Copy and Paste

While working on a complicated project involving copying and pasting into PSCS4 from several applications I received this error and Photoshop closed down with loss of my work.
I'm in Windows XP Pro SP3 and using a workstation with 2GB of error correcting memory. I had no such problems in PS3 and other applications work fine.

I'm using firefox 3.6.12 and having problem with copy and pasting.Going on for about 2 weeks. Thanks.

When trying to copy and paste, i have a hard time with at least 9 attempts before it takes effect. Thais has been going on for about 2 weeks now. Everything seems to happen as it's suppose to until you go and try to paste.

Update; As of now, i am able to copy and paste. Steps i have taken to correct issues i had before.
- I installed browser again, but issue came up again.
-I uninstalled Google Chrome browser, it recently showed up in my task manger when i was not using the browser. AnVir Task Manger showed it being in use, so i stopped the processor and uninstalled Google Chrome.

-I was using Iobit Toolbox Memory. For some reason, this seemed to be the cause of the problem. After uninstalling it, i am able to copy and paste with no more issues.

Problem with Copy and Paste in Edit

Today i cannot get Copy and Paste to operate. After highlighting a link in blue I cannot get the Copy to register. The link stays blue and does not respond to Copy click. I send links on Yahoo IM to friends of sites or Youtube videos. Thanx for the great help here!

I'm glad that is working again. Copy and Paste is such a fundamental operation, a computer is useless without it.
By the way have you had a look at Mac 101 Essentials? At the bottom of that page are further link. Just thought it might be useful to you as you are new to Apple Macs.

I am having a problem with copying and pasting text into the Safari search bar.

For example, when I copy and paste "Organic Chemistry: A Short Course" it will change to Organic%20Chemistry:%20A%20Short%20Course"
It will then tell me it has failed to open page, even though my interenet is otherwise working.

What you tried worked for me. Try "Organic Chemistry - A Short Course" It took me to the same search result as what you are trying.

My first time to this discussion. I am just learning the protocals.
Not sure what happened but for some reason I cannot copy a file in finder and paste it. I also cannot copy in word. Basicly it stopped working altogether.
I shut down remote desktop, I have an XSAN that I use for editing.

Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, test if things work OK in Safe Mode.
Then move these files to the Desktop...

PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.

Forum Glitch with copy and paste

So I've discovered a glitch with the forums that I'm not sure if anyone else is experiencing...
If you copy anything from the posting window while creating a new discussion or if you paste anything into this window, it causes a message to be displayed saying "are you sure you want to navigate away from this page? Your content will not be saved." when you press the Post Message button.
I have a habit of hitting select all and copy when I'm making posts just incase anything goes wrong. If I do that on these forums, I cannot post and loose all of my info.
If I try to paste in a link from the clipboard, the same thing happens.
I thought this is something quite serious that I should bring to everyone's attention.
This happens in both IE 8 and Firefox 3.5.7

Trouble with cut and paste password for wireless network

Command - C, Command-V did not let me paste wireless password from text edit. Any suggestions as to why? I was able to do so with right click.

It is one of mine. Yes. It connects to it no problem, just doesn't connect to the actual internet. Network diagnostics has all green lights until the ISP and/or Internet point. If I walk through diagnostics, it will get to the point where it says that the network requires a WEP password. I don't know why it does that because my network is not password-protected (husband claims it doesn't work well with his VPN system to get into work network). If I leave it blank, the connection will work. Eventually, after the computer is put to sleep, I will have the same problem upon waking up. I just tried renaming the network and removing all preferred networks and rebooting. Let's see how that works.

Copy and Paste not working

I have Captivate 6.0.1.240.
I am having a problem with Copy and Paste. When I copy an element on one screen and try to paste it, you can see the quick messages that an activity is taking place, but the element doesn’t actually get pasted. This used to work fine and just stopped working.
I have tried:
Restarting Captivate
Restarting the entire laptop
Clearing the cache
Renaming the Captivate folder in Users (suggested by a Captivate Blog)
In addition, another intermittent problem is that text in a caption window will disappear when I click out of the field.
Ordinarily, these kinds of problems are memory problems, but I have a late model Dell with 16 Gig of RAM, and in any case, restarting isn’t helping. I have searched the Internet for this issue and a few people reported similar problems, but not many. No real solutions.
I can't get version 6.0.1.319 because I bought Captivate from Adobe as a product, not a subscription, but I don't know if that is the fix. Copy and Paste worked fine for months, then stopped working.

Are you copying and pasting the items in the same project (from one slide to another) or are you copying something out of Captivate and then pasting it in there?
Does the pasted item show up in timeline?
Try running Adobe Captivate as administrator if it is Win 7 or later (Right click on Captivate icon, then run as admin).

Copy and Paste from PDF Looses Formatting in SL

Hi Everyone,
I've discovered a strange problem in snow leopard. Prior to upgrading to snow leopard, I was able to copy and paste from a PDF in Preview into Word, save as a text file, and preserve the formatting of the original PDF. This was important because I had written a perl program that extracted relevant information from the text file (the one based on the PDF) to generate reports. The PDF was not scanned but generated from some sort of batch program, and the output has columns and rows. I tried to copy and paste today, after upgrading to Snow Leopard yesterday, and no matter what I tried (including paste special) the formatting when copying from the PDF to Word was lost. I tried Adobe reader as well as Skim and tried copying into TextEdit but nothing worked. I even tried exporting from Adobe reader as a text file but have the same problem.
Being a good upgrader, I kept a backup of my Leopard install. After booting from it, copy and paste work as before and I was able to generate a properly formatted text file. From my experience with this, it appears as though the way snow leopard renders a PDF, or works with copying and pasting, is different than previous operating systems. Does anyone happen to know if there is a way to make snow leopard's copying and pasting work as it did in Leopard before?
If it helps, the machine I was using was my wife's white MacBook, 2 GHz with 2 MB of RAM.

I likewise rely on ChemDraw and Pages/Keynote for my research and teaching. This is unfortunately an enormous problem, as I use these programs on a daily basis. I will be re-installing Leopard until the problem is resolved. Chambridgesoft's reply to the issue is that "The current version of ChemDraw/ChemBioDraw (12.0.0) was developed and released prior to the release of Snow Leopard. Therefore, ChemDraw 12.0.0 has not been officially tested and qualified under this operating system. We hope to support Snow Leopard in future in a future point release." I guess they couldn't get a hold of a development build? As I'm using ChemDraw Ultra 11.0 I will obviously not be supported in any case.
Judging from other replies, the problem seems to stem from SN copying as a .tiff rather than a .pict? Perhaps someone has a fix to make SN copy as .pict?

Copy and Paste is still broken in iOS 8.1!!

This is really ******* me off. I know there were a lot of fundamental changes to iOS 8, so I can cut Apple some slack, but this is ridiculous! It's so frustrating to copy and then paste and get OLD copy results. It's worst when dealing with long complex passwords from LastPass (which can now integrate into Safari, but not other apps). Fix this Apple!!

We are not Apple employees. We are just other users like you are. I have no problem with copy and past in iOS 8.1, but there have been other discussions about this problem. You should look for one of those discussions for a fix, or report this as a bug to Apple.

Copy and Paste ocassionally fails in Firefox 9.01

I am having a problem with Copy and Paste in Firefox 9.01. It seems to be specific to v9. I could not replicate it on versions 8.7,6 or 5.
Occasionally the copy and paste function from the right menu click becomes permanently grayed out. It seems specific to Google Translate, and has also happened on a few other sites I have visited. Once this occurs all sites I visit display the same problem. Re-starting Firefox 9.01 resolves the problem. Disabling my add-on's did not solve the problem. Anyone had a similar issue?
I have scanned for malware, removed any AppInit_DLLs and installed a copy to another computer. The results are the same.
CTRL C and P will work if text is highlighted and the command done four times when the right click menu commands are greyed.
Any idea's are welcome.

This is a well known fault in Keynote 6, we are waiting on Apple supplying an update during their 6 month repair period. The simplest thing to do is use version 5 untill 6 is made stable enough to use.

Copy and Paste Bug for Windows 8.1

Hi while copying over my music library I recently discovered a bug with copy and paste. Say that you want to copy music from folder a to folder b. Folder b already contains some of the music files in folder a. So you when you select all of the files in folder
a and copy them over to folder a, as soon as the system encounters a duplicate file it will inform the user if it wants to replace the file or skip it. In that same dialogue box at the bottom there is a check box that by clicking it the user is telling the
system to do the same for all of the next conflicting files. To my understanding what that should do is if the user says that the system should ignore all of the conflicting files, then for all of the conflicting files that it finds those files should be ignored,
and all of the other non-conflicting files should not be ignored. However, that is not the case, when there is a conflicting file and the box is checked then the system ignores all of the files after the file that was conflicting. That is to say that after
the first conflicting file in folder a no other non-conflicting files from folder a will be copied into folder b.
Has anyone else ran into that issue?
