Trouble with Creating a Dynamic Playlist for Progressive Flash Video

Hey There,
I have been working on building a flash video player and are
trying to incorporate the Dynamic Playlist for Progressive Flash
Video. Everyting is working expect the thumbs are not appearing.
Instead, on each row of the list it says " type function". The list
is populated with data b/c i can navigate it and select a video to
watch, just the thumbs are missin.
Any ideas how I can get my jpg thumbs to appear?

hi, anyone tried the tutorial: creating a dynamic playlist
for streaming flash video?
i follow the instruction exactly as stated in the tutorial
and test the fla file, it worked perfectly well when i open the swf
using the macromedia flash 8. Everything look fine. Nothing is
changed except the url is changed to "rtmp://localhost/videosource"
in the xml file.
after i publish the file using the setting: access network
only, i try to open the swf and html file from the folder, the
thumbnail did not appear and there is no way i can click on any
videos. What i see is only the list, and there is no response from
the flash media server 2. All the files is in the same folder.
Anyone please help with this problem???? thanks

Your original problem stated it worked but not when playing
outside the
Flash authoring environment by simply loading the swf from
the hard drive.
The Flash authoring environment is a trusted environment and
so you really
need to test in the actual deployment mode which loading an
swf from the
hard drive is not a valid deployment unless an installed
Flash player is
available outside the web browser which you would have as you
have the
authoring tool and your users will not.
Use a browser with
http://yourdomain.com/yourmovie.html
to do final
debugging.
In this regard you may need to debug the movie while running
in real time
mode in a web browser with
http:// A technique to trace I suggested is to
create a temporary TextField perhaps named out_txt and send
trace message to
it such as out_txt.text += "My Trace Expression".

Creating a Dynamic Playlist for Streaming Flash Video

Hello,
I have been trying the tutorial given by Lisa Larson in order
to create a dynamic playlist for streaming Flash video files. I
have realized some of the FLV files that I have downloaded from
internet don’t show in the thumbPlayList and cannot be
played. But once I convert them back to WMV and the use the Flash 8
Video Decoder to convert them to FLV file everything works fine.
Any idea or suggestion why there is such a problem?

Creating a Dynamic Playlist for use with Amazon Cloudfront

I am working on a soultion for my website to deploy Falsh encoded videos from the Amazon Cloudfront using Flash Streaming Video Server 3.5 and the JW Falsh Player (www.longtailvideo.com).
I am NOT a code person but here is what I am trying to accomplish. I hope I am in the correct forum! If not, I apologize.
I have several videos a week that I edit and can save in different kbps versions for Dynamic Bitrate streaming through the JW Player. My problem is creating the XML or SMIL playlist to initiate the bitrate switching. I would like to find an authoring tool or someway to generate the required file in a fairly easy manner as I am more videographer/editor that code warrior.
I would also like to have a playlist of other available videos associated with any given video that could be delivered with the Dynamic Bitrate Switching feature. Example: a lawyer that specializes in several different fields of law and would like to have 5 videos, one for each area of specialization, delivered to clients with high bandwidth and clients on mobile devices and everyone in between!

Creating a Replay Button for a Flash Video

I want to replay a flash video by clicking on a "replay" button. I know how to creat the buttons. I can't figure out how to create the action script. Thanks in advance for any help.

Anyway, you would need to know when the movie has finished playing.
On a Flash Media server, there should be an event just for that.
If you are not running on such a kind of server, make yourself a cuepoint to listen to, at the very last frame of the movie, so your app knows when its time to offer the replay functionality. You can insert cuepoints in a movie when you are in the Flash Video Encoder options.

Dynamic Playlist for streaming video

This is my first attempt at building a dynamic playlist for
streaming flash video and I'm following the tutorial at
"macromedia.com/devnet/flash/articles/video_player.html". I've
changed the paths to my FMS and loaded the video files to the
applications directory of the FMS (flash_applications/videosource).
The thumbnails load and the player skin loads but the videos do not
load when I click on the thumbnails.
I've read the earlier post about this same issue. I followed
the advice from that post and reloaded the 'main.asc' file from my
Flash 8 program files but the video still does not play.

I just used the server on Windows (as opposed to linux) and
it worked great. So the issue, at least for me and my issue (could
see the thumbnails, couldn't play the video) was windows vs. Linux.
I guess the linux version doesn't work with this exact script. Now
to put together something of my own to test to see if the linux
version works right.

Dynamic Playlist for Streaming Video Errors

I'm using Lisa Larson's tutorial on the adobe website to
create a dynamic playlist from an XML file to work with out FMS
server. After playing around with it for an hour I finally got it
to connect to the FMS and generate the thumbs but it won't stream
any of the videos. When I click on the list item the video player
comes up but doesn't load a video. Any ideas? The live log in the
FMS console is giving me this error: "

i don't even get to see the thumbnails! i've left one of the
original addresses in the xml, and that one always loads, both
thumbnails and stream. however, every other one i've changed a
number of ways, i never get any thumbnails nor streams. while
testing the movie with flash 8, i get the output that the first
connection (the original one) is a success, but all others are
failed. in the xml, do you have to put the port in too? cause i've
tried that, but it makes no difference whatsoever...

Can one create a smart playlist for multiple podcasts and to play one after the other on your iPod? I want to combine podcasts of the same topic in a smart playlist. When I tried to do this I chose smart playlist, album starts with, and then did it again for each podcast I wanted. That didn't work. If it can be done how do you do it?
I have a fifth generation iPod which is always updated to the latest as well as the itunes.

Say for example I want to put different car related podcasts in one smart playlist. Car related podcasts such as Wall Street Journal Car Cast and NPR Car Talk. Can it be done and if so how?

I hadn't checked the site since January or so, when it worked. It might be related to the Opening Weekend skin they have on the site, but for me, it shows the top part of the page for 3 seconds while it's loading (scrolling down is impossible) and then all of a sudden it turns black, showing nothing. It's that way for every MLB mobile site.

Help with dynamic playlist for mpd

Hi guys,
I use mpd with sonata for playing my music, and after trying exaile there is one thing id really like for mpd, and that is the dynamic playlist function.
When you're playing a song in exaile with dynamic playlist enabled, it queries audioscrobbler and automatically adds similar artists/songs to your playlist (if you have them on your pc).
I dont want to use exaile as it just feels too big and slow and bloated (not KISS ), i know a little bit of python so i thought i'll try and make my own little script/program as Sonata has audioscrobbler support, but i dont think there is anyway to query similar artists.
I think im going to try and make this as a daemon type program that will run in the background adding songs to the playlist.
Ive found the code from the exaile source (audioscrobbler.py) which queries lastfm e.g.

This will print a list of similar artists to the flaming lips.
I've not done much with python so i thought this would be a good way to try and improve.

And if anyone else has any ideas/comments id like to hear them.

Creating a Dynamic Node for a Dynamic Graphic - Tutorial

Hi everyone,
I'm sharing my first tutorial, hope it'll be helpful for you.
In the Layout tab, it's possible to create an UI element "Business Graphic". It's a very simple tool that only requires a context node with a category attribute (that means, the values that will appear in the 'x' axis) and one or more series (each one with a color, generally a numerical value). It's possible to add a label for each series for better understanding of the Graphic.
Although it's a very powerful tool, there are some problems when we must create a graphic with N series and different labels. If the graphic use an ALV or internal table to fetch data, during runtime we can have more or less series. The definition of a static node and generic series is not enough in this case. That's why I'd like to present you this little tutorial to create a dynamic node that fetchs a dynamic graph:
In the WDDOINIT or Event Handler method that starts the application (once the data is available) we should create the dynamic node in the following way:
DATA: lr_node_info    TYPE REF TO if_wd_context_node_info,

There are other ways of adding a node structure in the method add_new_child_node, but it works for me only with STATIC_ELEMENT_RTTI. The node is now created and has the data required for the graphic. Now, we should go to WDDOONMODIFYVIEW, or save the target view as a parameter, to create the graphic, bind the category and series and show it on the screen.

Creating folders in playlists for burning to CD

Hi
Is it possible to create folders within a playlist for burning cd's with about 8 albums on in mp3 format so that it is easier to direct access a particular album on the disc rather than start at track 1 & keep skiping until you reach say the 5th album which will be about track 60 & so on & so on, I have no problems burning the files to disc but like ive explained it just shows as about 160 tracks but no individual folders for each album

Having trouble with creating objects from instances created with ClassLoade

Hi.
I'm having a bit of trouble with casting an instance of an object from a custom ClassLoader. Don't worry - the code isn't for anything sinister - it's for one of those life simulation thingies, but I want to make it modular so people can write their own 'viruses' which compete for survival. You know the score.
Anyway. I've got the beginnings of my main class, which seems to load the class data for all 'virus' classes in a folder called 'strains'. There is a abstract class called AbstractVirus which declares the method calls for how the viruses should behave and to get textual descriptions, etc. AbstractVirus is to be subclassed to create working virus classes and these are what my main class is trying to load instances of.
Unfortuantely, I can't cast the instances into AbstractVirus objects. The error I've been getting is 'ClassCastException' which I presume is something to do with the fact that my ClassLoader and the Bootstrap ClassLoader aren't seeing eye-to-eye with the class types. Can anyone help? This line of programming is really new to me.

Two things:
I think your custom ClassLoader isn't delegating. In general a ClassLoader should begin by asking it's parent ClassLoader to get a class, and only if the parent loader fails get it itself. AFAIKS you could do what you're trying to do more easilly with URLClassLoader.
Second, beware that a java source file can, and often does, generate more than one class file. Ignore any class files whose names contain a $ character. It's possible you are loading an internal class which doesn't extend your abstract class.

Creating a dynamic page for each record.

So I understand how to grab a single row from a database for use on a dynamic page. Now creating 1,000 pages for each row would be rather tedious even with copy and paste. So can anyone provide me some information on how to do this without creating each page manually?

Yes it would. You create a link to a dynamic page and pass it the id of the item you want to display. So instead of using a link to a static page like this:
<a href="mywidget_01.html">My Widget 101</a>
You would link to a dynamic page like this:
<a href="widgets.php?id=101">My Widget 101</a>
The widgets.php would read the query string and pull the correct data for widget 101 from the database. You could even use url rewriting so the url of the dynamic page for widget 101 would be http://example.com/widget101

That's crazy. It defeats the whole purpose of dynamic sites. Before you start on this, make sure you fully understand your options.
