Trouble with Cross Fade Transition

CS4 PPro. Sometimes when I use a crossfade from a black video to my action video and then render it I get this problem.
Can anyone explain this and is there a work around. It happens with a Black Matte also.
I suspect it's hardware related.
Here is a screenshot of what it looks like on the monitor.
Thx in advance of all help given to me.
Phil
It just flashes on for just a approx. 100th of a second.

Let's get the video issues out of the way first.
Have you updated your video card's driver?
Just did it.
What is the make/model of your video card?
ATI Radeon HD 2400 PRO
What are your OpenGL settings?
Sorry I've looked and can't find them. Are they listed in the ATI settings menus?
Do you have Hardware Acceleration ON in the OS?
I do not see that Option in my Display Properties Settings, I've listed below the settings in ATI 3D, but there
are many other tabs to choose from.
Do you have 3D set to "Let Application Decide," or other?
Standard Settings- Set to Balanced
Anti_Aliasing-Set to Use application settings-Filter-Set to Box
Adaptive Anti-Aliasing-Disabled
Anisotropic Filtering-Set to Use application settings
Catalyst tm A.I.-Set to Standard
Mipmap Detail Level-Set to High Quality
I  also see that you have this over an AVI. What are the specs. of that  AVI? Is this footage that you Captured from miniDV tape via FireWire in  PrPro?
Yes MiniDV tape firewire in PrPro CS4
Hope this helps you, help me...thx Phil

  • Trouble with Cross-fades!

    I've inserted some Live Type in between some video footage and I am noticing that it is only grabbing one side instead of two when I try to cross-dissolve the edit. Is there a reason as to why this is happening?

    Your LiveType clip probably doesn't have enough "handle" frames to support the transition's duration.  Set an IN point about 15 frames into the LiveType clip then reapply the transition.

  • Can't Drag & Drop Cross Fade Transition ?

    I'm a new user and can't figure out why when I attempt to drag and drop a cross-fade transition into my timeline it won't stick or apply. Can anybody help with this. Also, is there a setting that would automatically apply the cross-fade transition to all clip joining points in the timeline ?

    The second techniques assumes there are handles available to create the transition overlap.

  • Trouble with Cross dissolve duration

    I amediting stils with motion and I can't get my video cross dissolve transitions to extend. they are basically 1 or 2 frames that's it. What am I doing wrong?

    Trim your ins and out by an amount equal to the length of the dissolve you want to insert.
    EG. 30 frame dissolve: trim outgoing clip by 15 frames... trim incoming clip by 15 frames... butt clips together and add the dissolve.

  • Trouble with Cross-References

    FM11 / DITA 1.2
    What could cause a particular cross reference to consistently NOT work? I know that's vague. I'll try to give a more specific example:
    Let's say I have a collection of xrefs across several XML files in a DITA map. Some xrefs might even point to the same item (usually a <title> tag with an ID attribute). On output to a book with FM components, particular xrefs just will not work (they output as "unresolved"). I can fix it manually in the FM file, but I'd rather it work correctly in the first place, especially since I deal with translation in to several languages, and if I can't get an xref to just work, I have to fix it many, many times.
    I've tried deleting the xref and starting again; I've tried changing the ID attribute in case there was some kind of conflict...I still have trouble with that particular xref (and this happens with more than one xref). What else can I try?
    Again, I know this is vague. I'd be happy to elaborate on relevant points. I just don't currently have time to write a massive description and I want to get this question out.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi ohnehosen...
    Are you up to date on your FM11 patches? It's hard to say what could be causing this problem .. does sound strange.
    While this shouldn't be the problem, you might try linking your xref to the container "topic" element (topic, concept, task, whatever is the immediate parent of the title you're pointing at). While in theory you should be able to xref to a title, that's not really the intent, your cross-ref is referencing a "topic" not the title within the topic. The same goes for a figure or table, you reference the fig or table element not the title within those elements.
    I'd assume that the code in the FM-DITA plugin was designed to work by referencing the container ,it probably wasn't tested the way you're doing it, and there may be some flakiness that would cause this to not always work.
    Give it a try .. let us know how it goes.

  • Shuffle with cross-fade on 3rd Gen Shuffle - does anyone know?

    Hi everyone!
    One of the features I use at home with iTunes a lot is the cross-fade playback option. I noticed that the new Nano offers this capability, too.
    Does anyone know if it's an option on the new shuffle, or if it cross-fades between tracks by default?
    Thanks!

    Well, I've found out the answer to my own question!
    In case anyone was wondering: no, it doesn't do crossfades between tracks, but it does support gapless playback, so if that's how your tracks are set up, you will get a very continuous sounding playback between tracks anyway.
    There we have it!

  • Cross Fade Transition prob

    Just happened...don't know if I changed something by accident:
    I have two clips on the timeline. Right-click to "add default transition" (a 15 frame cross fade that I set). But instead of putting the effect ON the cut (where the playhead is), it puts it to the left of it...so that the end of the effect is at the playhead, instead of centered on it like it did previously.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Jonathan

    Hey...I don't mind if you call it a "Shane moment." Because it wasn't a SENIOR moment, as I am not that old, and YOU aren't that old (I assume). But there should be a name for a person who really knows their stuff in a given field, but forgets a basic thing...or just plain messes up.
    Shane Moment works for me. And I have plenty...
    Like last night at 2AM...I noticed that I had cut in an interview WITHOUT MAKING AN OUTPOINT...so the interview clip was 1:07 longer than it should have been. And my nice show that was 5 seconds long, was now 1:02 SHORT. So I am going thru and tryng to make up the difference. Ooof.

  • Problem with cross dissolve transitions

    I had several short interview clips that I had made into several short Imovies. I wanted to combine the interviews into one longer movie. Each short clip has an intro clip.
    The problem occurs when I copy each short clip and paste into the long version. The beginning and end of each clip is clipped somewhat. I think this might be because it's making a new cross dissolve from an existing cross dissolve?
    When I remove everything but the interview clip from the short movies then paste into the longer version this problem doesn't happen. Any idea why this might be happening?

    If you made the short clips by export the movie with the intro there is probably no extra media available to make the overlap for the transition. Check the preferences for doing the transition if it's set to all or half. That might help you, but it may just not be possible.

  • Trouble with a simple transition

    I'm new to actionscript and trying to wrap my head around some simple scripting, but am having trouble.
    My goal in this excercise is to have one symbol/movie clip in frame 1 (stopped on that frame) and then, when clicked, the first cube will dissapear and transition to a different symbol/movie clip in frame 2.
    Here is my script:
    stop();
    stationary1.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, transition);
    function transition(evt:MouseEvent):void {
        evt.currentTarget.gotoAndStop(2);
        evt.currentTarget.mouseEnabled = false;
    The movie clips I'm working with are just revolving cubes that are different colors. What happens when I run this script is the initial cube is there spinning as intended in frame 1, then when I click it the initial cube freezes and the other cube doesn't show up.

    you probably don't want the evt.currentTarget to advance to frame 2.  that would be the 2nd frame on stationary1's timeline.
    try:
    stop();
    stationary1.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, transition);
    function transition(evt:MouseEvent):void {
    gotoAndStop(2);

  • -trouble with Cross Dissolve

    Hi
    wondering if some one can help , i put a cross dissolve between two clips and can not get it to work, if i put any other tranistaion they all work fine.
    why
    Thanks

    What happens when you try to add a dissolve?
    And are you sure it isn't a HANDLE issue?
    #1 Transitions "Insufficient Content"
    Shane's Stock Answer #1:
    You need to make sure that your clips have enough media (called 'handles') at the beginning of the incoming clip and at the end of the outgoing clip for the transition. For example, if you have a 1 second (30 frame) dissolve, your in and out point need to be at least 15 frames from the edge of the clip.
    What you are running into is that you are marking an out point at the end of a clip then adding a cross dissolve, say 20 frames in duration. Since the dissolve is centered on the cut, it will start 10 frames before the cut, and try to go 10 frames AFTER the cut...which it can't do.
    What you need to do is plan how long your dissolve will be and back-time your cut so that it works.
    a full 1 second crossfade reaches 15 frames into each clip. So, if you want to change a cut to a crossfade, there has to be at least 15 additional frames of each clip.
    Say you're trying to crossfade from one clip into the very first frame of a second clip. FCP cannot 'create' 15 more frames of the second clip to do a crossfade. If they're not there, you're out of luck.
    FCP has to extend the end of your first clip by 1/2 of your transition length, and the beginning of your second clip by 1/2 of your transition length, so those frames need to be in your system. The nature of a crossfade is mixing two clips together.

  • Trouble with music fade out

    I just finished a photo slide show in iMovie and have used iTunes music from a CD. The problem is that my slide show is shorter than the music and I want to do a "fade out" with the music. I've done this before with music within the iMovie program where I select "show clip volume levels" from "View"; however, I can't get this to work with this piece of music. Those levels just don't show for me to do the fade out!
    Any ideas on what I can do or am doing wrong?
    Thank you!

    Hi Scottis!
    In the timeline, click on the audio clip and use the usual volume adjustment, i.e. pull down the end of the 'volume line' until it slopes downwards.

  • Cross-fade effect missing from transition effects

    I used to export slide-shows from image folders with QuickTime, and on Tiger and PowerMac PPC G4 that worked fine choosing cross-fade transitions.
    There was also the possibility to export slide-shows with Graphic Converter (using QuickTime effects), and the cross-fade transition was available.
    Now, with Leopard and QuickTime 7.5 the cross-fade (aka dissolve transition) is missing from the transition effects. Is that a bug ? Is there a way to recover that transition effect ? I re-installed QuickTime, but that didn't changed things.
    Thanks for any input...
    N.

    I still have my PowerMac G4 with all things installed, so I checked in QuickTime the slide-show export, and it doesn't have options for transitions in the effects. Oups !
    So I guess it's only related to Graphic Converter 5.9.5 where in the transitions the cross-fade isn't available anymore when I upgraded to Leopard. Maybe I should upgrade Graphic Converter.
    Anyway, thanks for the iPhoto tip, but I can't find where I can change the default settings...

  • Trying to format my QT movie with "apple photo" JPG using cross fade

    Here's an example of what I'm trying to create: http://www.heese-cadieux.com/Home.html
    I have QT pro, iWeb, and iPhoto, and many other editing programs.
    I know how to make an image sequence, but not with cross fades, and my file size is still a bit big.
    Here's what I have so far: http://coreysheltonphotography.com/
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Corey.

    Hiding the controller and creating a looping file are done with the html code:
    controller="false" loop="true" (these tags are used in "embedded" QuickTime files). "Object" tags are used for Internet Explorer but the syntax is similar. Modern Web pages use javascript code for QuickTime files and combine both object/embed and the QT_WriteOBJECT code.
    To create the file I linked above I did these steps:
    "Borrowed" your source file (via QuickTime Player Pro).
    Exported the six image files from that source (via QuickTime Player Pro).
    Converted (reduced file size in the images) using GraphicConverter ($35).
    Added your images to 5 seconds of audio (to give them "time"). This is different than converting to "video" as the single image file size is the same for the duration. I then "extracted" the new video track and saved as .mov format (Movie Properties window of QuickTime Player Pro).
    I used samplemakeeffectmovie (not a typo) to "combine" two of these 5 second videos to add the "cross fade" effect. This is a developer PPC app I found years ago from Apple. 1998 and it still works on my Intel machine. It allows you to add transitions, compositors and effects (thousands of user created combinations) to two video files.
    Once I created the six "videos" I joined them together (via QuickTime Player Pro) to make a single file (15 seconds in duration). I then added a royalty free audio track (converted from AIFF to AAC via QuickTime Player Pro) by adding the total .mov file (scaled) to the 30 second audio track. This brought the final "video" close to 30 frames per second (source was 15 fps).
    What I proved is that QuickTime Player Pro can be an "authoring" application. I even wrote a book (PDF) that explains some of its possibilities.
    Since I still don't own a "video" camera I've created my "movies" using still image files and QuickTime Player Pro. A few examples:
    http://homepage.mac.com/kkirkster/RedneckTexasXmas/index.html
    The pink color was supposed to be transparent but the software didn't allow it.
    http://homepage.mac.com/kkirkster/03war/
    Still images, layers, masks, audio and text to tell a story.
    http://homepage.mac.com/kkirkster/B/
    Code that "calls" the QuickTime Player app (instead of the browser plug-in). Use the Command-f combo to enter full screen mode.

  • Canvas display issue with stills and cross fades

    When viewing a collection of JPEG stills with cross fades, the images appear like they are "settling in" the canvas window (almost as if they expand a bit and then 'retreat back' to the space the window has). When removing the transitions I don't have the issue. Issue also appears when do more complex builds. No difference whether stills are exact 720x480 or much bigger. I rendered a portion of my sequence out to QuickTime and via Compressor and it shows normal - so my only issue is that my preview before render is not reliable (for the stills portion). Also tried to swith off external video options etc. and changing size of canvas window with no result. Suggestions? (using FCP 5.0.4 and latest QuickTime)

    I rendered a portion of my
    sequence out to QuickTime and via Compressor and it
    shows normal - so my only issue is that my preview
    before render is not reliable
    The preview of unrendered material is never reliable and isn't meant to be. It just gives you a basic idea what's there. Render the transitions and you should see them as they are meant to be seen.
