Trouble with D-Link Router

I have been having all kinds of issues with a D-Link WIFI router in my house. I am having to reset it on a regular basis. But the funny thing is that my mom who uses Leopard is not having a problem in the world with it. The problems I am having is that I am unable to get a connection after a period of time (sometimes a day or two of usage).
The funny thing about all this is that at home in my house I use a D-Link router (another type) and have used the Apple airport base station and have had no problems at all. Why I am having problems with this router is beyond me. Our WiFI network is insecure (its okay as we live in the sticks). I am clueless. My only guess is a incompatibility between Snow Leopard and this particular D-Link router.

Then I obviously misunderstood your first post:

So, at this point, I'm confused as to whether you have a problem (or not); if so, you'd need to share some info about the model and whether it is "g" or "n" rated. If you're not having a problem, I don't understand your post.

  • Serious troubles with my WRT110 router

Hello! This problem all started when I upgraded the machine I'm typing this on to Windows 7 Ultimate.  No matter what I did, it would not connect to the existing network. I finally found a way to get it to connect by entering the router's PIN number, but it effectively created an entirely new network. My problem lies here. I can create new open networks just fine, but if I try to create an encrypted network it will not work -- the computer won't even detect the router. I need an encrypted network because I'm required by law to have one in my line of work, and I have no idea how to set it up. The network is comprised of this machine I'm using, a Macbook, and a TiVo DVR, as well as my laptop which is in for repairs. I might also add that I'm having trouble with the software that came with the router. Ideally, I'd have a secure network with an easily memorable password so other machines can join. I have spent many hours on this and I'm truly at a loss, and some step by step instructions would be tremendously appreciated. Thanks in advance,
    ~Eric
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    1. You should always access the web interface through a wired connection. Through a wireless link you may accidentally configure the router of your neighbor. And of course you should also never make changes on the wireless settings through a wireless link. Thus, always use a wired connection only for this purpose.
    2. It does not affect your network as it is. It only changes the router configuration. If you change the wireless configuration of the router it will, of course, affect all existing wireless links to the router (if any).
    3. You should not choose a "easily memorable password". That's always a bad idea. The wireless passphrase is usually only entered once on each wireless device to establish the connection to the router. The wireless device usually remembers the passphrase. Thus it is better to choose a very strong passphrase, e.g. a random generated longer passphrase. That is much more secure.

  • Using the Airport Express as an Extender with D-link router

I just received an Airport Express as a Christmas gift and am having trouble setting it up with the D-Link N router that I have. I have searched all of the internets and have not found anything confirming whether or not these two items are compatible with each other; some people say they are, some say otherwise- I thought I would ask the experts.
I plugged in the express and tried to set it up, but when it asks what base station it needs to connect to, it won't recognize the D-Link router (I know that the D-Link router isn't a base station).
Is there anyway to make the express I have extend my wireless network?

    They are not.
There are very few Routers that are WDS compatible.
Very few can be used to extend a Network.
If you use all Airport Products then you can extend.

  • Laserwriter 8500 - networking with D-link router

    Hi,
I've just changed my router to a D-link DI-524 and can't get my Laserwriter 8500 to work with it. It was fine with the Netgear Router I used to have.
I'm running a MacBook with OS X 10.5.6, and the printer driver is v.3010.103.
I tried some of the advice on other threads but when I go to Printer/Fax prefs and click 'Default', nothing shows up and the 'Add' Button is dimmed. Tried the IPP setting but didn't really know what I was doing.
    Help!
    Thanks,
    Debbie
PS this was the reason I bought this router, so that I could network the printer.

That is a printer than can print as either an Appletalk printer or an LPR/LPD printer (also called an IP Printer). The easiest way to change printer parameters is with Apple printer Utility. If you do not have a Mac that can run Classic, you cannot run Apple Printer Utility, and may be stuck with Telnet to change printer parameters.
To set it up as an Appletalk printer, you must turn on AppleTalk on your Mac, which is accomplished in:
    System Preferences > Network > (your active network interface) {Ethernet or Airport}
(Turning Appletalk on for one interface may give you a message that you are turning AppleTalk off on a different Network Interface; not a problem.)
Then you need to use Printer Setup and deliberately choose AppleTalk as the connection method -- I do not think default will suffice. (No AppleTalk Zones are involved.) If your printer is turned on, ready, and cabled in, it should appear within a quarter minute.
Some Routers, especially less popular brands, may not support AppleTalk packets transmitted over wireless.
That printer can also be set up as an IP Printer. To run it as an IP Printer, it must have an IP address in the same subnet as your current Router. \[Post back if you do not understand what that means.]
The discussion referenced below has some information that may apply. The original Poster was trying to set up the printer as an IP Printer, then wanted to change to a different Router using a different Internet Service Provider:

  • Airport Express with D-Link router?

I bought an Airport Express with the specific purpose of connecting an old 1999 iMac to the internet (D-Link wireless router) via the ethernet port. I also thought I could use it to connect other ethernet devices such as my HD-DVD player.
I tried to configure the Express with my PowerBook to discover later in the instructions that the ethernet port is disabled when configuring the unit as wireless bridge/client. It sounds odd, becuase I can't understand the use of it, then. The range extender configuration which enables ethernet, apparently only works with an Airport base station. I admit I'm not very networking-savvy. Did I do something wrong? Am I understanding the instructions correctly?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately, most non-AirPort routers are not compatible with Apple's implementation of Wireless Distribution System (WDS)...so it very unlikely that your D-Link router can be extended wirelessly with the AirPort Express Base Station (AX).
The few that are known to work are:
o another Airport Express Base Station
o 802.11g Airport Extreme Base Station (AEBS)
o 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn)
    o Linksys WRT54G or WRT54GS (not v5)
    o Belkin F5D7230-4 and F5D7231
    o BT Voyager 2091
    o Netgear WGR614 v6
    o Buffalo WGR-G54

    Hello agaben99,
First of all, Welcome to the  Discussion forums!
I may be wrong, I am not an expert with regards to using wireless/routers but I think the minimum system requirements might be 10.4 +.
Minimum System Requirements: Computer with: Windows XP SP2 or Mac OS X (v10.4). Internet Explorer v6 or Mozilla Firefox v1.5. CD-ROM Drive. Network Interface Card. For Internet Access: Cable or DSL Modem. Subscription with an Internet Service Provider (ISP).
    hope that helps some,

  • Upgraded to Tiger no internet with D-Link router

I have a D-Link router that worked great in Jaguar. I upgraded to Tiger and now I can't access the internet. I'm using an Airport card, I can see the SSID and it claims I'm connected in System Preferences / Networking but I can't get webpages to come up.
When I plug a cable into the router and to my Mac I can access the internet no problem.
I have a cable modem and it's all setup to work with DHCP. It worked fine in Jaguar but I can't get online with Tiger.
Anyone have any ideas what I can do to get back online? Thanks.

See message #2 in that discussion, posted by someone named "Christian". The "hack" involves downloading a zipped file containing two older MacOS system software files from Christian's web site (but you can copy them off any Mac that hasn't been updated with Airport 4.2), and use these two files to replace ones that were installed by Airport 4.2.

Let me see if I can find how to reset your router. I think it's the same as mine actually. Your router is a pretty good router. I think with the settings I suggest to you you will get your PlayBook to connect reliably.
Also, when you get into your router, make sure your firmware is the most recent. Update it if you have to.

  • Playbook won't connect to the internet on wifi WPA setting with d-link router

Hi, I'm using a D-link DIR-655 router with it being set up with a WPA security system. For some reason though, when I've tried to set up my playbook, it won't connect to it. Can anyone help. Thanks.

  • I have trouble with website links not working but they work fine on I.E. it's a problem on quite a few sites .

The problem I'm having is the links are just unclickable . I have checked all the settings and everything seems ok , but the links are not working . Everything is fine in I.E. and I am not having any problems , it appears to only be when using mozilla . On this site http://compare100.com it's the links at the bottom of the page , is any body else having the same issue ?

After a bit more troubleshooting... This appears to be a CSS float clearing issue. In a page with both left and right floated containers, if the float is not cleared in one of various ways, Firefox may render the page properly, but the hyperlinks do not function. By clearing the float in the application of the page footer division, I am able to correct the problem in my web page structure such that all browsers render correctly with working links. When you experience this problem, you won't be able to do anything to Firefox to correct it, the page owner will have to resolve their stylesheets, unless a patch or something comes out to address whatever causes Firefox to behave this way.

  • Trouble with D-Link DI-524 wireless router

i have connected successfully to the internet with this router, but then when i turn my computer off, my airport card turns off and i cannot turn it back on , it is grayed out in the system preferences. i connect through verizon dsl. sometimes when i turn my computer on, the airport icon is on, sometimes it is off. i can't figure out how to turn it on consistently. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Phish, I must first declare I do not have that router. However, I've checked the on line specs of that router, and can tell you that you won't have any problem using it with your iBook.
Now, to get more specific, this router claims to be 802.11g standard compliant, the same standard the iBook uses. It is WEP and WPA compliant, both of wich work well with the iBook, however, the WPA is way more secure than WEP, and also is simpler to set (you don't need to guess any hexadecimal code, choose between several passphrases nor enter any special $ign before the password) on Macs.
Now, do not be fooled on thinking that you must install the ".exe" setup program on your ibook to make it work with your router. You mentioned you are already using the router, so you should only need to open the iBook, and, if your network is open (which I DO NOT RECOMMEND) your precious little white laptop will ask you if you want to connect to your network, that simple!
If you have WEP/WPA and the SSID broadcast on, then you'll need to enter the password, if you are not broadcasting the SSID (an even more secure setting), you'll need to enter the name of the network and the password. Unless you are filtering the MAC numbers to connect the network, you won't need to change ANYTHING to let your iBook to surf wirelessly.
There is also a way to configure the wireless network with your ibook, (with any browser) but I pressume you won't need it, as you already have the network installed.
Good luck and congratulations on your new acquisition!

  • Macbook Pro Problems with D-Link Router

My router D-link (Dl-624+A, model available in Asia) 802.11g/2.4 Ghz wireless router serves a G5 iMac, a G4 Aluminum Powerbook plus a Windows laptop and desktop. We have never experienced any problems with the network.
I have recently bought a 17" Macbook Pro 2.4 Ghz laptop (intel MBP) and have not been able, in any combination of modes, to join the network. A dialogue box simply says that there was an error trying to join the network.
I have no problems joining other wireless networks around town its so easy, just the one at home is the problem.
What is going on? Is there a fix? Thanks

Hi, my MacBook Pro can't connect to my D-Link DSL-G604T router via wireless too.
Airport can see my wireless connection and asks for the WEP password to connect. I put the password key in and an error pops up saying it cannot connect. I can connect via an Ethernet cable. Also, my previous system PowerBook G4 is able to connect via to the router via wireless, hence there is nothing wrong with my network.
Based on the suggestions from other threads, I tried to set my security to WPA instead of WEP. However, after I set my security to WPA, and tried to connect to my wireless network, the AirPort popup only gives me 4 options for the Wireless Security:
    WEP Password
    WEP 40/128-bit hex
    WEP 40/128-bit ASCII
    LEAP
There isn't an option to use WPA. Can anyone advise?

  • Troubles with D-Link DIR 600 and AirPort Extreme

    Hi guys
The question might has already been raised but I couldn't find anything in any other threads helping me.
I've got a new router (came along with my new ISP) D-Link DIR600 which I tried to connect to my AirPort Extreme to have a secondary WiFi available. My devices are connected in this way:
Internet Modem ---> AirPort Extreme (cable) ---> D-Link 600 (cable).
                                            |                                   |
                                            |                                   |
                                       WiFi(1)                          WiFi (2)
While my APE is just working perfect the D-Link doesn't. I can connect to my DLink Router though but the "Internet" somehow won't get passed through.
    Any help
    Thanks a lot

The dlink probably does not have a bridge mode.. so you have to use WAN bypass.
    See this post for details.

Or flash your DIR600 over to dd-wrt so you can use it in WAP mode.

  • Trouble with PDF links

A little background: I work for an agency and have a peripheral responsibility for updating our website, so I am learning everything on Dreamweaver from square 1 basically. So bear with me as I muddle through this. A couple years ago a former employee installed version CS3 on the PC I use, and is the version I am working with to this day.
I need to post a .pdf link of a meeting agenda to a page on the site and have it show up when it's clicked. Links to previous meeting agendas on the page work fine, but the most recent one I added 404's, even though I follow the exact code as previous .pdf links.
My suspicion is that I trouble lies in the fact I have an old and unsupported version of the software, or some sort of conflict between HTML/HTML 5 (if something like that exists), or a combination of the two.
    Thoughts and suggestions? Thank you.

I think it's very unlikely that either of these would be involved. No doubt the issue is either with your code for the link, with your path to the linked file, or with remembering to upload the linked file. Can we see the code on the page (best way is to post a link to the live page)?

The more you know about HTML (and CSS) the easier this will be. It might be a good idea to spend some time on http://www.html.net, or http://www.w3school.com
