Trouble with DVD-R recovery discs

Hello, It's only now that I saw that DVD+R is suggested for burning the recovery disc set. A bit too late for me, since I bought several DVD-R to produce my set. Here's what happened: Each disc was created with difficulty; the burning process failed on every other try. But in the end, I finally got the 4 DVD-R's that the program said were burned and verified correctly. Now, when I tried inserting each disc to make sure the notebook was able to read them correctly (the contents were supposedly verified, after all), to my horror I saw that the first two discs were not being recognized. However, my patience was rewarded when after a long time, suddenly an Explorer window pops up showing the contents of the disc. Taking advantage of the situation, I immediately copied these contents in a folder in the desktop. It took me long to do this process for the contents of the first two discs that were having trouble being recognized. Later on I also copied the contents of discs 3 and 4, which was a lot quicker. Now, I have four folders in the desktop with the contents of the corresponding recovery discs. The question is: could I use these contents and burn them onto DVD+R's this time, so as to have a working set of recovery discs? Thank you very much.
This question was solved.

Hi @anthony_s
Thank you for your query.
I understand that you created your recovery disk on the incorrect type of DVD and the do not work.  You have copied the contents to folders on you desktop and would like to know if you can now create new recovery DVDs on the correct type from the folders.
No that will not work.  I suggest you contact HP support and advise them of the events and inquire about obtaining a recovery kit.

  • Trouble with DVD+R DL discs in T500 Optical drive

Hi - This is a T500 (2242CTO)  running W7/64 - I've downloaded the latest Roxio Creator Business Edition and was able to burn a 4.5GB folder to a DVD+R DL disc using its Data Disc function, no problem.   After completing the burn, i closed Roxio and inserted the DVD into the drive to try and read the contents, and after the drive spun up, I briefly saw the [correct] disc label (in Windows Explorer), then the drive went into Powered Off state (device manager reports the drive has been "prepared for safe removal").   It won't power up either by ejecting the tray or by right-clicking and selecting "power on".  It won't even power up if I physically eject the drive and re-insert it.
Other formats, CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R and DVD-RW seem to work fine.
I have to re-boot the machine to get the drive back, and while rebooting in this state, W7 hangs in the shutdown process and I have to force a shutdown with the power button (I've had no shutdown hangs otherwise).
Btw, the drive is a mat**bleep**a dvd-ram UJ862A, firmware revision SB04.   I'm actively searching for info about this drive and firmware, in the meantime if anyone has any insights they would be more than welcome.   Thanks!

  • HT4848 will i lose my files if i repair with the HD recovery disc?

I did the disc Utility and got the msg that the Macintosh Hd is corrupt and needs repaired and to insert Recovery Disc and Reboot.
    I now have Os x Lion 10.7.5
my processor is 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
running mem is 4 GB 1067 Mhz Ram
    i went to
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1433
and put the recovery disk assistant on a 32 gb flash drive
most of my files are backed up, but i just need to know to prepare myself, is this going to replace/delete my files. Will it be back to factory setting?

Repairing your disk with Disk Utility does not erase any files. Neither does reinstalling OS X if it comes to that. However, if your disk is corrupt as you indicate, some files may already have been deleted or will become deleted if Disk Utility determines they are corrupt.

  • Big Mini Trouble with DVD and Front Row

    Set-Up
I am trying to use my mac mini as a media centre connected to a 42" sharp aquos 1080HD, for sound i use a 5.1 bose speaker set-up, which is irrelevant to my problem, but the mac interfaces with a yamaha rxv661B 7.1 channel digital home theatre receiver, via DVI to HDMI and sound through head phone to RCA set-up that will soon be upgraded to optical. All connected to the appropriate DVD channels on the recevier, video goes to the TV via HDMI. My set-up has no DVD player other than the super drive on the mac mini, the only other input is a Bell ExpressVu 9200 PVR.
    My Problem
    1. Playing DVDs the brightness on the picture fluctuates in a very regular wave like pulse. What am I doing wrong?
    2. Front Row Crashes the computer whenever I try to access any of the movie files. The files play fine when accessed directly or through itunes but crash the system in front row. DVDs play, and the online movie clips play, and music and picture content are no problem.
Any help would be much appreciated
As an aside does anyone know if youtube will be available to non Apple-TV front row users, as well?

Everything is plugged into a three pronged plug using a relatively sophisticated surge protecting power bar, but you may be on to something, the power bar has a light to indicate if it is properly grounded and that has not lit up since its been in use, perhaps the outlet isn't properly grounded, I live in a recently renovated 100yr old home.
As for the files they are a mixture of mpg, mov and a number of m4v (that might be my postal not a file format) I mean the ipod format, a lot of the video files I produce I put directly into the ipod ready format.

  • Trouble with DVD Studio Pro

I have a project in which I have two seperate clips from final cut pro i am trying to burn to DVD. One is the movie the other is the slide show. I created a project and placed both in. I set up a menu and two buttons one for each clip. I then linked them. In the preview window my buttons work fine, but once I burn it to DVD and put it in a dvd player I cannot get the remote to reconginze the buttons. Any suggestions will help me so much I really appreciate it.

DVDSP is actually very easy to use at the basic level, but it's not a "one touch" system and trying to treat it as such is the source of all kinds if problems. I strongly suggest that you go through the DVDSP user manual to get familiar with how the basics work.
The problem of buttons not highlighting is a common one but simple to fix in the inspector once you understand buttons. This is only slightly harder than chewing gum while walking...
If you're interested, Ripple Training has a nice tutorial on DVDSP that is both thorough and easy to understand. I need to state that although I have no financial interest in that product, I did work with Ripple on the project in the motion graphics and editing so I am biased.
    Good luck!

  • Trouble with iPad in recovery mode

I tried (mistakenly) to download iOS 8 to my iPad 2 but it only resulted in crashing my iPad completely.  I and am now trying to restore my iPad, but after several attempts, keep getting a message "iPad could not be restored. The device could not be found." iPad seems completely dead. What should I do next?

    FORCE IPAD INTO RECOVERY MODE
    1. Turn off iPad
    2. Turn on computer and launch iTunes (make sure you have the latest version of iTune)
    3. Plug USB cable into computer's USB port
    4. Hold Home button down and plug the other end of cable into docking port.
DO NOT RELEASE BUTTON until you see picture of iTunes and plug
    5. Release Home button.
    ON COMPUTER
    6. iTunes has detected iPad in recovery mode. You must restore this iPad before it can be used with iTunes.
    7. Select "Restore iPad"...
    Note:
    1. Data will be lost if you do not have backup
    2. You must follow step 1 to step 4 VERY CLOSELY.
    3. Repeat the process if necessary.

  • Having trouble with DVD Video files. Please Help! :)

Hi I recently got a film DVD I wanted to take a clip off. However although I can watch the section I want in Windows Media Player, when I import the film into Premiere - some of it is missing! there are 4 files '4-1',4-2','4-3',4-4' which make up the movie. I can load them all in but 4-3 is missing the last 15-20 minutes, even though I know its there - cos this file is the same size as the previous one which is full length. Does anyone know why this would be? The DVD is unencrypted.
Please help - its quite annoying that the small section of film I want is the bit that won't appear! Thank you very much
    Rich

    Based on this one line:
    The DVD is unencrypted.
I was assuming that it was not protected. However, as you point out, some aspects might be, and the OP might not be completely aware of this.
If there is protection, I strongly urge anyone to respect that, regardless of their intended use of the material. Copy protection is there for a very good reason. Regardless of what one might be able to do, they should be 100% ethical, and honor any/all copy protection. This is true for material from a videographer, or from a commercial studio. Should you need to use the material in such a DVD-Video, you should contact the author to get first permission, and then the original source material, that has not undergone the MPEG-2 compression to DVD-Video.
Again, I assume that the OP knows that this is NOT an issue, and will not figure into the problem. In that case, all above does NOT apply in this case, but some other reader might make note of it.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Win7 64 bit (original pre-installed) ,32 bit dvd recovery disc

I've just bought new notebook from toshiba L500-208 recently. And i absolutely have no idea how to deal with this new stuff! Please help me!
I had one NB from compaq for 5 yrs, when i format window just use 1 cd and this finish!
But now what i dont understand is i have win7 64 bit (when i bought), but i have 32 bit recovery disc.
I want to know if i format notebook and use this recovery disc, i will lose 64 bit, right?
What if i want to have 64 bit for next installation, what i have to do? please help me too..
    thank you so much!

    Hello
The whole situation is quite simply. If you check PC and notebook market you will see that more and more new products will be offered with 64bit operating systems.
So the software production goes slowly in this direction.
Toshiba offers you brand new notebook with 64bit operating system but also offer you 32bit version if you feel comfortable with it and if you want to use some software not designed for 64bit operating systems.
Your notebook is delivered with HDD recovery image and if you read users manuals you can find info that you should create own recovery DVD.
This can be done with preinstalled Toshiba recovery disc creator. The shortcut for this tool you can find on desktop.
So, before you do anything please create this installation disc. After doing this you can install 32bit version and use it so long you want.
When you want to have 64bit version again use self created recovery disc for installation.
I hope you understand now how it works.
If you have more questions please let me know.

  • Do the recovery discs come with an operating system?

I was given a Toshiba satellite A215-S4747 a year ago. I don't have a recovery disc and can't do a restore from the hard disc. After putting windows 7 on it, it has been nothing but problems with the drivers and such. At this point I just want it at factory default again. Since my I never had the recovery disc in the first place, I don't mind paying for one, but I need to know if I will have to purchase a Vista OS disc as well or if it will come with the requested recovery disc for my laptop. Thanks in Advance!

    Howdy!
Not sure why you are having issues with the drivers, but if you go to the following link, it lists all the drives which you can sort via which version of Windows 7 (32 bit or 64 bit) you are running.
    Satellite A215-S4747
Another option to keep in mind is, depending on how you installed Windows 7, you may still have the recovery partition that discs would have been made from.  If so, your manual, which can be downloaded at the link I provided above, may tell you which keys to press during the boot process to access and run it.
Worse case scenario where you just buy the OEM recovery discs from Toshiba, they will include everything you need from the Windows OS, to the correct drivers, to the Toshiba extra support software.  It will literally load to the state it was right out of the box.  As such, no, you will not need to purchase a retail copy of Windows Vista off the shelf.  The only kicker to that would be if Vista was not the originally installed OS.  Easiest way to check this is to look on the bottom of the laptop where the OS sticker is with your particular serial key.  Whatever it says there will be what is on the recovery disc when you receive it.
If you have any other questions or need further assist, please feel free to post here.  Best of luck.

    Hi
What kind of DVDs you are using for creating a Toshiba recovery disc? As yet I have tried Verbatim DVD-R and TDK DVD-R and never had a problem with these discs. Friend of tried DVD+R and he couldnt create a recovery disc. After that he tried DVD-R and all was fine but I dont know why this happened.
    So please try other discs.
Furthermore check the Toshiba page for a firmware update of CD/DVD drive. Maybe it will help you.

  • Envy touchsmart 17 recovery discs not working?

I just got my laptop its A HP Envy touchsmart 17 model:17-j043cl.
I made recovery discs right away because I also bought A Samsung EVO SSD 250 gig HD to replace the slow 1TB 5200rpm HD my laptop came with. Everything went good with making the recovery discs and it took 6 blank sony dvd-r to compleat using the HP included software(only lets you make 1 set or copy).
Now I do all the nessarry HP updates and OS updates.
I power down my new laptop, remove factory HD intall new Samsung SSD 250 gig HD in its place. power up the laptop and try to use recovery discs to load onto the new samsung SSD drive........Well NO LUCK, I get an error screen saying:
"The system recovery media does not support this compiter. You are not able to restore this system with the media"
So I do alot of searching I find that many others have had this same problem, and they resolved it by reverting back to previous BIOS, I know my BIOS was updated to f.43 after i made discs, how can I go back to what it was before the update to see if the recovery discs will work?
    or is there another solution??

    Hi Rizzo7883,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have read your thread on your HP ENVY TouchSmart 17-j043cl  Notebook and  having to restore the BIOS. Here is a document on restoring the BIOS back to defaults.

  • Hp g5000 system recovery disc fails 1002

    Hi
My frends daughter took the hp laptop to america and subsequently the hard disc failed so with no recovery disc she went to a repair center and had a new hard disc fitted.
i ordered the system recovery disc from best2serve but the laptop would not boot from it?
I tried the disc in my HP Desktop and it worked fine so DVD player is suspect also.
I then tried my Dell Vista recovery disc from my C521 desktop and that worked fine.
If i then mounted the recovery disc it looked fine and i could read all the contents Strange Just cant boot from it.
Anyway downloaded the HP Bios update in case that would fix it (no good still would not boot)
so went back to my Desktop and built a USB Bootable flash drive with contents of Recovery disc
It booted fine and started recovery Manager selected rebuild Hard disc (cant remember exact words)
and shortly after failed error 1002 contact HP
have searched error 1002 and WoW wish i had just not wasted time buying the recovery disc as endless calls all say They do not work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ps It also destroyed the working Dell Vista that was on
can anyone suggest where to start
    1) to Install Genuine HP recovery image from recovery disc (with suspect dvd)
    2) get money back if possible
    3) ps AS USUAL OUT OF WARRANTY
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    More on this saga,
the 120 gig drive replaced by 250 gig after first disk failed.
Purchased another dvd drive as could nor read HP recovery dvd (neither would work)
the second drive has exactly the same problem it would not read the dvd-r or dvd+r copies that I had created.
Wasted my money on problem that did not exist
( I should have known that XP and Dell Vista disks worked o/k so problem is with the Bios Firmware for this drive)
This time I used a USB Flash copy of Windows 7 Update DVD and removed all partitions leaving a completely unformatted disk.
Then rebuilt the USB flash drive this time with HP Recovery disk and started the recovery process. (the 1002 must mean I want a empty disk)
As I speak it has been going for over 2 hours with FBI gui manager doing bits of updating and rebooting.
one post says it will take 3 hours and 25 reboots ( i have lost count)
By Chance HP rang to say how was it going with replacement DVD that was sent (I bet he wished he had not rung he spent over 1 hour waiting with not much help as to what was expected to happen)
Told him about not being able to read DVD (solution 5 year old PC may not be able to read it!!!!!!!!!)
any way Flash usb copy of DVD does work if that help anyone.
One of the reboots showed PC Angel? something about recovery but as FBI GUI minimised I did nothing (dissapeared after next reboot)
Then went into recovery Manager and said creating recovery please wait (another 1/2 hour)
small problem ends with recovery manager said i wanted to recover and seems to have restarted the whole process again!!!!!
    urgh
Will update if the recovery fails or works so it may benefit all

    Hi!
You can create the recovery disks with the Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator. Normally it is preinstalled on the laptop.
If you are not able to burn it, you can order a new disk here:
