Trouble with DVI to S-Video/Composite on 480i TV

Please help. Just connected my 480i TV with my 2008 mac mini. First connection worked perfectly. I changed the screen resolution and now all I have is a flickering black & white tv. I've tried almost every possible screen resolution with no luck.
Help?

I can explain the behavior with AirDisplay. OS X has the ability to store different display settings according to how many screens are in use. AirDisplay counts as two screens being in use, same as like attaching an external display to a laptop. So OS X is using different settings for that configuration. As soon as the second display goes away, OS X reverts to settings last in use for the single display configuration.
Maybe restarting in Safe mode and changing the resolution to 480i will be all you need to do. That is also covered in the link the was previously sent.

  • GeForce4 MX using DVI to S-VIDEO / Composite Adapter

    Hi peoples,
I'm running a PowerMac G4 Dual-867MHz MDD, with nVIDIA GeForce4 MX Video card.
I want to connect this PowerMac to the TV, so I bought the DVI to S-VIDEO/Composite, to find out that it doesn't work with this video card.
    My question is;
is there something I can do to get this adapter working with my current set up, or do i need another video card or something?
    Any advice would be appreciated.
    Cheers.

A new video card would work. e.g.
ATI Radeon Pro PC&Mac Edition 256 MB. Has two DVI
ports. The DVI to S_Video adapter will work on one
port, the other port can handle a screen up to 30".
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro Mac Edition 256 MB. Better 3D
performance. One DVI port (single-link, no 30"
support), VGA port, and S-Video port. S-Video to
    composite adapter included.
There are also used Mac, and modified PC cards that
    would work.
Thanks for your reply. 3D performance isn't really required, as it's being used a server machine that will be hooked up to the TV, so it's hard to justify a Radeon 9800 Pro. Hopefull I can find something cheap & nasty, else this baby is going on eBay.
    Cheers.

  • DVI to S-Video & Composite plug cable needed for output to audio/TV system

I'm in need of a DVI to S-Video and Composite plug cable to replace the Monster iTV Link cable I used with my 12" Aluminum PowerBook. (http://www.monstercable.com/apple/Computer.asp) I use it to output to my audio/TV system.
Whereas the PowerBook used a mini-DVI port and had the audio output jack on the same side of the computer, the MacBook Pro uses a full size DVI port and has the audio jack on the opposite side!
I've been unable to find a cable so that I can connect up to a TV. Does anyone know where I can find one? Or perhaps a DVI to mini-DVI adapter? Or perhaps a VGA to S-Video/Composite cable and I can use the DVI to VGA adapter that came with the computer?
    This is very frustrating!

Apple's video adapters have a ROM chip inside them with EDID data contained within the ROM. That is one thing that will definitely be different between the two. The NTSC and PAL version (M9267G/A) gives priority to NTSC. This could cause problems in a PAL country. If you hooked a PAL TV up using this adapter, you might get a rolling (non-synced) screen and you'd have no good way to recover since the image on the screen would be unusable.
I don't think one adapter would have any advantage over the other in terms of PAL picture quality. It would just be a question of compatibility as outlined above. That's my best guess.

  • Mini Dvi to S-video/Composite/RCA

I have a 2007 black macbook and recently bought a Mini-DVI to video adapter (brand-dynex) and hooked it up to my older television (TV has no hdmi hookup or dvi, just S-Video and RCA) and I could faintly make out my computer screen but it was all "scratchy" and was moving across the screen. I changed the resolution and it became black and gray lines moving up and down the screen. I was wondering how can I hook my computer up to this older TV to watch movies online (I wont be upset with low quality). Do I need to purchase the Apple brand adapter or is there some "tweeking" I can do to make the Dynex one work? thanks

Honestly, I was afraid of this... Oh well, I bought it off ebay and got my money refunded so no harm done. Thanks for the help and if anyone can figure some application or anything and get their adaptor to work, please contact me thanks....

  • Mini dvi to s-video/composite adapter doesn't seem to work?

basically i'm trying to hook my rather new 2.53 ghz mac mini to my tv, which basically has rca inputs. so, having seen several laptops hooked to this tv as simply as using an s-video to composite adapter, i figured it would be as simple as getting the mini dvi to composite adapter and i'd be good. well, for some reason this doesn't seem to do anything. the other weird thing is that when i hook the cable from the composite adapter to the tv, i get a buzz out of the speakers as the connection is being made. why is a video signal having anything to do with the audio? plugging my playstation 2 into the same input works fine. why the difference?

That's the setup I've used. Works great for video and photos, but webpage text can be difficult to read.
I used the yellow composite input rather than the s-video. My old tv is inside an “entertainment center” type tv stand and is so friggin heavy, it’s a pain in the axx to move, so I just used the composite plug on the front of my tv. Since the Mac mini is sitting in front of the tv it works great:-)

  • DVI to s-video/ composite Video Adaptors- diff b/w 2 Apple products?

I am trying to get information regarding the difference between 2
    Apple display accessories.
    - Apple PAL DVI to Video Adaptor -Apple part number MA026ZM/A
    - Apple DVI to Video Adaptor -Apple part number M9267G/A
The second is not just an NTSC version of the first, in that it
supports both PAL and NTSC - and apparently the Pin outs are
different for both. I am trying to work out which will give a better
result for PAL video output (interlace timings etc). Kbase articles
just say that M9267G/A supports both NTSC and PAL and that MA026ZM/A
supports PAL. It seems strange that the PAL item exists if the other
adaptor supports PAL also ? Apple Australia say they don't know.
    thoughts ? thanks in advance

  • Trouble with PE8 and AVCHD video

    Hello,
I have a good spec. computer with a Intel Core i7 CPU 930 @ 2.8Ghz and a NVidia Quadro FX580 graphics card and want to be able to edit video from my Panasonic HDC-HS9 camcorder.
I can play video footage through Windows Media Player just fine, but the video is pixelated and generally not very good when viewed in the preview window in PE8.
I have got Quicktime version 7.6.6 but if I try and play the video through that it states that 'Error 2048: Couldn't open the file 00282.MTS because it is not a file that QuickTime understands'. I read somewhere that you need to have the latest version of QuickTime installed and was wondering if this a symptom of the problem.
I have downloaded GSpot v2.70a and looked at the file I am trying to play and it states that the Container File Type is 'MPEG-2 Transport Stream and Mime Type: video/mp2t.
My Panasonic manual says that I am recording in MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 codec.
It just seems odd that image quality is perfect in WMP and poor in PE8? I have also noticed that when viewing thumbnails in PE8 organiser it does not display an image at all?  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello Bill Hunt,
Thanks for taking the trouble. My responses are in red.
QT is unlikely to be able to play the file. It is, however used by PrE for other playback operations. IIRC, 7.6.6 is the latest version, unless a new one has JUST hit. Now, that said, 7.6.2 & 7.6.3 exhibited problems in other Adobe programs. Many found 7.6.6 to be good, but some others did not, and rolled back to the "last known good" version, 7.5.5 (the one that I use on all computers, until 100% of Adobe users report otherwise). Thanks for the advice.
Now, when you have Imported the AVCHD material into an AVCHD Project Preset, is there a red line above the Clips in the Timeline, just below the Timeline Ruler? Yes, the red line is present.
What is the Magnification of your Program Monitor in PrE set to?. I use 100% for critical viewing, as Fit is a very poor emulation. By default ‘fit’ was selected – I changed it to 100% (and others) but no effect on image quality Now, I do not believe that PrE 8 has added the Program Monitor Quality settings, like in PrPro, but Rt-click on the Program Monitor and check to see if Quality is in the drop-down menu. You’re right, no quality control setting. There are playback settings but again tried all permutations.
Also, check to see if you have Hardware Acceleration (do not think that Win7 has that any more), and try adjusting that. I have run the DirectX diagnostic tool within Win7 and everything is fine.
Check for the very latest video driver, and if there is any newer one, install that. Got the very latest drivers from NVidia website.
Look at GPU Acceleration, and adjust that, then test. I have enabled the PhysX GPU acceleration within the NVidia control panel.
Otherwise, you system seems plenty beefy enough to handle AVCHD footage.
One last question - please tell us about your I/O sub-system, i.e. the HDD's, their size, speed, free space, controller type (Marvell 64xx/63xx SAS Controller that is up to date) and how you have them allocated.
I have two Hitachi 1TB SERIAL ATA 3-Gb/s HARD DRIVE WITH 16MB CACHE (7,200rpm) – no RAID configuration. I had the drives factory partitioned as detailed in the attached screen grab. Win7 64 bit and PrE is on the C drive and the video files in the H drive. If I ever get round to doing some editing I was going to use the D drive as a working space. I’ve seen some forum discussions that advise against partitioning but I thought I was keeping things neat and tidy by doing so?
    RAM - 6GB CORSAIR XMS3 TRI-DDR3 1333MHz
With other Video formats, that is the most important aspect of a computer, but with AVCHD, the
PS - you have upgraded to PrE 8.0.1 haven't you?
I don’t know if I am using the 8.0.1 version [The help about screen shows 8.0] as I am currently using the trial version of the software and do not have the option to check for updates through the help menu. I am very keen to buy the full version as I have used Photoshop Elements for some while and want to remain consistent. I also use Acrobat 9 Pro and there must be advantages in keeping everything with Adobe.
I don’t really understand video codec and don’t know whether it is right to assume that because the file plays fine through Windows Media Player, I can assume it is not a codec issue with PrE. Do WMP and PrE share codecs?
I am not sure I’ve given you anything to work with but again would appreciate any pointers. If nothing else I am learning quite a lot as I go along!

  • Trouble with a new iPod video (and a question)

My new iPod video is causing my computer to freeze when I connect it. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes. After that, it seemed to be going OK, but it only downloaded about 500m (of a total of 50g) before iTunes froze again and stopped downloading (of course the "Do Not Disconnect" icon on the iPod stayed there, but I had no choice but to disconnect it!).
All of my music is on an external Seagate hard drive coming in through one of my USB inputs. The iPod is on the other USB input. Could this be part of the problem? I don't think it's a drive letter issue since it did start downloading the last time before freezing.
Also, I'm wondering if I can use my old firewire cable from my previous iPod to speed up the transfer process once I actually get the thing working.
Any help would be much appreciated!

  • Trouble with Frame Size of AE Composition in Premiere CS6

I'm trying to add a name-bar (name-tag) from After Effects to my sequence in Premiere Pro. I built the name-tag in Illustrator according to the frame size in Premiere.
All of my name tags for a 640x480 frame fit perfectly. However, the tags I built for a 720x480 frame appear way, way too large. I can't figure out why. Below is an example of the issue I've been having:
As you can see, the bar on the bottom extends beyond the frame -- but I built it to be the same 720x480 frame size as the video clip.
So, without further adieu...help me. Please.

  • Trouble with transfering old songs/videos onto new computer

Not long ago my computer got a virus and I needed to reconfigure it and what not. As I finished, I installed itunes and purchased quite a few videos and songs that are now in my library. My question is, how can I transfer the songs and videos on my ipod into my current itunes library without deleting the purchased items already in my library. So that when im done i will have the same songs on my ipod in my library, so then my ipod will be completely sync'd with the library and i will still have the new purchased items too. Thank you in advance for your feedback and support!
    Alienware (Area 51)   Windows 2000

Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    TuneJack Windows Only
    iPod2PC Windows Only
    iGadget Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only
    iRepo Windows Only
    iPodRip Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac and Windows Versions
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows or a Mac. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • Trouble with 30GB ipod w/ video and trouble with itunes 7

here's the story: i just got a new ipod (the 30 GB with video). i got tired of my little shuffle with no screen.
so, i put my whole itunes library onto the ipod and everything was working fine. i loved it. then, i deleted some items from my itunes library on my laptop because it was taking up needed space on my hard drive, i figured this was fine, since i still have it on my ipod, and i can watch/listen to them anytime i want. But, when i went back later to put some new stuff on my ipod, 2 shows and 2 of my favorite podcast episodes were deleted from the ipod that i had put on before!
-i checked the manual, it said that i need to be in the manual mode instead of itunes/ipod automatically updating the ipod's library. i was transferring stuff manually, but it still got rid of some stuff on it's own.
the music was all still there, but a tv show episode, and 2 of my favorite video podcast episodes were deleted.
-Will this always be a problem everytime I hook it up to my laptop and want to add new stuff to my ipod? I don't even have half of the ipod filled. it says that I have 20Gb of free space.
i want to be able to keep stuff on my ipod that i will delete from my itunes library/hard drive. such as movies, tv shows, my favorite video podcast episodes. But at the same time, I want to be able to add new stuff. Is this Possible?? please help! is the ipod/itunes programmed to delete everything from the ipod that is not in the itunes library????

I figured it out myself: i chose the option manage manually.

  • Mini DVI to S-video/Composite hooked to a projector

    Hi all,
I have recently opted to sell my PB 17 as I was tired of having a brick on my back all the time.
I hoped apple would do a new 12' but alas it didn't happen.
In any way, I mostly use my book for clients presentations.
I am having an awful problem.
I bought a minidvi to svideo, and connected it to different projectors and chose the right res for the task!
everything on the screen (projector) is blurred as ****.
I cannot manage to get a crisp picture from the projector and this is very annoying.
I am buffed up with the max ram on a blackbook.
this is very annoying as this is the main task i require my book to do.
Is there any way to get this thing working using svideo
    thanX in advance
    JM

Plug it in using miniDVI (or whatever it is on the Macbook) to VGA adapter
    much better quality then
I do it at home with my PB 17" and projector
(getting MacBook too and will buy miniDV to VGA adapter for that too)
