Trouble with importing photos

Lightroom 4.3.  "The following files were not imported because they could not be read."  The problem is not my camera or my card or my card reader.  My computer and its hard drive are fine.  A brief online search makes it clear that this has happened out of the blue for a number of people with a wide variety of cameras and computers.  Does anyone have a solid solution to this?

Off hand, I would say you don't hvae permission to write to the destination folder.  Double check and make sure you have read and write permissions for the Drive/Folder that you are attempting to import to.

  • Having trouble with imports never finishing

I am having trouble with imports that never finished. It is almost like the pictures are stuck on one image. the only way to get out of Iphoto is to force quit. The next time I open, there are a number of images that still need to be imported, but the import never finishes and seems to stop at the same image. When I go to close down I get the message that Photos are being imported to the library.
    Anyone have any suggestions.
    Thanks

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Check out your iPhoto library and make sure all photos are viewable and there. Force quitting when iPhoto is working can corrupt the database file, Library6.iPhoto. Make a backup copy of it and save in another folder.
First make a backup copy of your iPhoto Library folder. Now download and run BatChmod on the iPhoto Library folder with the settings shown here, substituting your account name for mine. You can either type in the path to the folder or just drag the folder into that field. Open iPhoto and see if it will work OK.
If not, launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select all options.
Lastly use iPhoto Library Manager to rebuild the library. Here's how:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your User/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: It can take some time to create the new library if you have a lot of photos. One user reported that with a library of about 5,000 images it took about 12 hours so plan ahead.

Having trouble with iCloud Photo Stream on a Windows Vista 64 machine.  Can you tell me why Photo Stream will not stay enabled.  When I reboot, it will disable not to mention that it will not get any pushed photos.  Is there a 64 bit version?

    Hello tw_mama,
I was looking into the issue you are experiencing and found an article that may shed some light on the subject. It's called iCloud: Account troubleshooting found here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3988
    This section in particluar:
I get an "Unsupported Apple ID" error when I try to sign in to iCloud from my iPhone, iPad or iPod touch.
Depending on how you created your Apple ID, you may not be able to create an iCloud account with your current Apple ID. If your Apple ID works in the iTunes Store, App Store, Game Center, FaceTime, or with other Apple Services, your Apple ID should work for iCloud. Also, if you created your Apple ID while you applied for a job at jobs.apple.com, your Apple ID should work for iCloud. If you cannot use your Apple ID with any Apple Services, it might not be compatible with iCloud. Contact iCloud Support for assistance.
    All the best,

  • Has anyone else had trouble with their photo app? everytime I try to edit a picture my phone restarts.

has anyone else had trouble with their photo app? everytime I try to edit a picture my phone restarts.

You have to go into your Gmail account settings.
    Then Security.
    Then turn ON 2-Step Verification
Follow the instructions to link a cell phone to your google account. They will text you a secondary code and once you've entered that your 2-step verification will be set up.
Then you should have the option on the bottom of the page to add a device. Call it apple tv and then it will generate a secondary code specifically for your Apple TV.
On the Apple TV itself, ultimately I think you have to enter just the first part of your e-mail address (before the @gmail.com) as your Youtube login username.
Then you should enter your gmail account password.
Apple TV will tell you it is incorrect.
Then, retry and enter the long secondary password that google generated for the apple tv.
    That should do it.

You can't do it in one step. Add to iTunes first, Once the tracks are in iTunes you may convert to a different format.

  • Why is iphoto having trouble with rotating photos all of a sudden?

i've been using iphoto for a few years. suddenly it un-rotated all of my auto-rotated photos (which screwed up all of my face tags) and now when i upload new photos, if they auto-rotate during the upload they appear in the preview of a whole event, but if i double-click to see a vertical photo, or try to do a slideshow, i get the triangle with an exclamation point in it, indicating that something's wrong with the file. is anyone else having this trouble? or have any idea what to do?
    thanks...

I've never used the Flickr feature so don't know if that as any bearing on the problem.  if you're satisfied with the newly "fixed" library you can delete the copy of the original library that you made.
However, since you're having problems with rotated photos you might try this and see if the new library has the rotated photos displayed correctly:
Start over from scratch with new library
Start over with a new library and import the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from your original library as follows:
    1.  Move the existing library folder to the desktop.
    2. Open the library package like this.
    3. Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
    4. Drag the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from the iPhoto Library on the desktop into the open iPhoto window.
This will create a new library with the same Events as the original library but will not keep the metadata, albums, books slideshows and other projects.
If the rotated photos display correctly in this new library then the problem lies with the orther libraries being damages somehow.  You may want to stay with the new library even though the projects, i.e. books, etc. and keywords are lost.
If you have a lot of keywords in your current library and want to move them to the new library you can by doing this:
1 - open the old library and select one photo.
2 - type Command+K to brinb up the keyword pane.
3  - click on all of the keywords that are not blue so that all of the keywords are blue.
4 - export that photo to the Desktop via the File ➙ Export ➙ File Export menu option. Select Kind=JPEG and check the two check boxes regarding keywords, locations, etc.
5 - open the new library with iPhoto and import the exported photo from the Desktop.  That will bring in all of the keywords so that you don't have to recereate them one by one in the new library.

  • Help with importing photos from camera if some pics were imported earlier

I am trying to import photos from my digital camera into iphoto and there are some old photos on my camera already. When the prompt screen tells me that there is a repeat photo, I clicked on do not import it for all such photos option. After that the screen tells me that the photos are being imported, but nothing happens. I am very furstrated, is there anything I can do? I have iphoto 6 version. Thanks!

I believe with iPhoto 6 if you upload the photos to a folder first and then import that folder into iPhoto 6 you will be given the opportunity to exclude duplicates. The import has to be from the Finder and not directly from the camera. You can test that by importing a single photo that is already in the library from the Desktop. If I'm wrong this post will self destruct 10 seconds after and all here will disavow any knowledge of me.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.≤br>
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Help with importing photos - IPhoto assigning file names that already exist

When I import photos from my canon powershot camera, IPhoto has begun assigning file names that are the same as filenames that already exist on photos imported previously. It appears it is deleting those older files (when I go look in my photo library, the older one with the same name is now gone).
I don't know how to name photos as they are imported as it seems to be done automatically and I'm afraid to import more photos and loose my old pics. Can't find anything on the internet when I search on this question - can anyone help?

Thanks so much for your quick reply, TD.
What happens when I plug in my camera is that Iphoto opens, asks me if I want to import photos (and if I want to delete originals), and I click okay or whatever and they are imported. I name the roll/folder, and I photo puts them in the library in that folder in that year.
It makes sense that the camera is numbering them. I think that the ones it is using the same numbers for (ie - IMG0080.jpg) are the numbers on older photos that were assigned by a different camera that we used to have.
So I guess the canon isn't searching on all photo names that have been used, just the ones that it has used in the past.
Unfortunately, when the new photo is named with the same name as an old one, that old one is literally deleted - at least as far as I can tell - and when I go look for it in my photo library, it is no longer there.
I might try to see if there are any help forums for the canon powershot and see what I might learn there.
THanks so much for your help!

  • Problem with importing photos to MBP: The new event shows up at the beginning of Events rather than at the end

When I imported photos on my older Mac computers G4 and G5), the new event would show up as the last event in EVENTS. With my new MBP, the new event shows up consistently at the beginning of EVENTS (actually as the second event), and it is a big inconvenience to have to drag it to the end (through some 500 events). How can I change this? Thank you for your help!

If you have the sort set to manual then you must manually sort the events as you choose - there is no "sort manually the way I am thinking" setting - manual is manual - and for what ever reason with the current version of iphoto second from the top is where events start for you to then manually put where you want
BTW - events are a poor choice for organizing photos and extremely inflexible (as you are seeing) - albums and folder are much more powerful and flexible and are the better way to organize photos

  • Problem with imported photos color/exposure

    Hello group,
Have been working on a video of our vacation and am having a strange problem importing photos. When I import the photo, it looks as it should. When I add the ken burns effect, once it renders the color seems washed out and the exposure looks lighter. If I import them without the KB effect they are fine. I am using three sets of photos from three different digital cameras, all doing the same thing. This is using the Aperture library. Any ideas? It almost is acting like I have some sort of global adjustment set, but I can't find any such thing. I have been using the edit pane/Video FX/Adjust colors/brightness and adjusting them back with that, but this is way too time consuming. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Oh I forgot to add, when I click on the photo settings in the timeline and it shows the preview pane, it looks correct then as well. I have also tried hitting the full screen play button and they show faded in that mode as well. Hope this makes sense!
    Thanks,
    John

    hey there Bastropguy,
i know this may sound wacky, but have you actually burned any of your projects to DVD & watched them on a TV from a set-top DVD player? many times what looks wrong or poor on your Mac looks fine once you burn to disc in iDVD. KB effect is a bit of a hog, using a lot of processing power to do its job so that's possibly the reason for the images looking poor on your Mac. p suggest you finish this project as a half & half for comparison & see how the images you've tweaked look vs. the untweaked.
    good luck.

  • Trouble with imported sound also going to IDVD

I imported some video and it was fine...then I imported another clip and placed it in front of the first clip. Suddenly that first clip has no sound. It is on the same audio track and the volume is clicked. i can hear the second clip fine.
Also...I have a great deal of trouble with the digital tape looking fine on the camera, but then all jumpy and the picture is all digital screwy when its imported to imovie.
When createing a new IDVD project, is there anyway to create a new on rather than just opening up the last one I was working one? That feature is all annoying and cause me to create duplicates of the work, eating up my precious space!

I would honestly like to know why it would not work to just use the exported video from FCE into iDvD, there should be no aspect change in my case. The source in in 720x480. I also would have thought that FCE would be set up to transfer to dvd since much of what is done will need to be shown on that format?
Anamorphicizer did not work for me!!
myDvdedit I have not tried yet as looks to be too many steps to be practical.
I suppose I will try QTpro.
    Any thoughts?

  • Trouble with 30Gb Photo

first time posting on here... I looked back through a few page to see if this issue had already been addressed.
A few days ago, my 30Gb iPod Photo started skipping songs on its own. So after resetting it, it lost all it's content. I've read a couple troubleshooting guides about the computer not recognizing the iPod, but still haven't yet found a way to restore my iPod.
When using the updater, I get many different error messages such as "Can't mount iPod" or "iPod service error"
I've tried re installing just about every iPod related software on my computer, as well as trying to Format my iPod (which I can't even do).
I'm hoping I don't have to send this out for service, as my warranty expired 6 days ago...
    Can anyone help me out?
    Thanks,
    Alex

The Sad iPods icon or folder with an exclamation mark are the toughest problems to deal with, and must do a Restore in order to fix it. However, when your iPod is showing this icon, it is probably too late for your computer to recognize the iPod.
    1. Try these five steps (known as the five Rs) and it would conquer most iPod issues.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
    2. Try to put the iPod into Disk Mode if it fails to appear on the desktop
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651
    Still can't see your iPod?
Several things could keep iPod from appearing in iTunes or in the Desktop/Finder when you connect it to your PC/Mac. The most likely causes are listed below in logical order. Check from the top of the list to see if that is what's keeping iPod from appearing.
    3. Try to wait 30 minutes while iPod is charging.
    4. Try another known-good FireWire or USB through Dock Connector cable.
    5. Try another known-good FireWire or USB port on your computer .
    6. Try to disconnect all devices from your computer's FireWire and USB ports.
    7. Windows users having trouble with their iPods should locate a Mac user. We've found that in many cases when an iPod won't show up on a PC that it will show up on the Mac. Then it can be restored. When the PC user returns to his computer the iPod will be recognized by the PC, reformatted for the PC, and usable again. By the way, it works in reverse too. A Mac user often can get his iPod back by connecting it to a PC and restoring it.
    8. Try to do an Erase (Disk Utility) on a Mac computer or a format with a PC (Disk Management tool) but ensure you choose the right Drive (your iPod not your Hard Disk of your computer). You may need to plug and unplug your iPod with the computer for several attempts, and switching around Format and Restore, and hope out of sudden, it will get recognized.
    9. Diagnostic mode solution – which I copied from a thread of a post from thinktwice
“Then I cam across this special Diganostics Mode that you can get to by resetting and then while the Apple is showing pressing the Select and backwards keys simultaneously. It bring up and weird Diagnostic utility witha a abunch of tests. Here is what I did
    - I tried the 5in1 test and got and error on Firewire.
    - I did the HDD R/W and surprisingly it passed.
    - I went on to the HDD scan. This supposedly tkaes acouple of minute so I waited. I think 4-5 dots appeared then nothing. The iPod started to get hot. THe disk was spinning away. After a while the battery got very low. THis test chews up the battery. So I escaped out by resetting and went to connect it to a power source.
My USB was dangling out of my computer and I was too lazy to get the Firewire AC adapter thing going so I connected expecting the whole lockup thing with iTunes. Surprise. IT was recognized immediately and has been working like a champ. So go figure.
Details on Diag mode can be found at http://www.methodshop.com/mp3/ipodsupport/diagnosticmode/index.shtml
10.Let me ask you a question, if an iPod with no iPod software with it. When your connect it with a computer, what would happen?
Yeah, the computer will treat it as a fresh external hard disk, which will get force mounted, the computer will ask you to format the iPod. It does not really matter the format is completed or not, the key is to erase (or partly) the corrupted iPod software on the iPod, after that the computer will recognize it.
Once it has been completed, eject your iPod, open the iPod updater and interestingly, you will able to do the Restore this time.
Base on the above, that's why I suggest Windows users who experience trouble with their iPods should locate a Mac machine or vice versa. PC computer will not recognize a Mac formatted iPod, but it will get mounted in an attempt to format your iPod.
But, if none of these steps address the issue, your iPod may need to be repaired. You can arrange for service at the iPod Service Website.
I have just read an interesting solution about the Sad iPod, it does make sense but the warranty will be waived once you open the iPod, I would not do it myself as I am not good on doing this

  • Error in iPhoto with importing photos. How to reset?

I disconnect my iPhone from my MacBook because importing photos in iPhoto didn't work well.
Now I want to try it again but iPhoto keeps saying: "Photos are being imported to the photo library. Please wait for import to complete."
But it import nothing at all...
How can I import photos again?

Quit iPhoto if it's running. Force quit if necessary.
    Back up all data.
Select the active iPhoto Library in the Finder. By default, it's in the Pictures subfolder of your home folder, but you may have put it elsewhere. Right-click or control-click the icon, then select
              Show Package Contents
    from the contextual menu.
In the Finder window, you may now see a folder named "Import". Open that folder and move its contents to the Desktop. Do the same with the folder named "Auto Import", if it's present. Make no other changes.
Close the window. Launch iPhoto and test.

  • LR 3.6: Problem with importing photos (system disk filled up).

Hi, I'm new here and in start I would like to apologize for my English. It's not very good.
I have a problem with the program Lightroom 3.6 (in 3.5 was the same)
When I import photos from disk into Lightroom, my system drive is filling up drastically.
Windows & applications (LR too) are in C (60GB OCZ SSD drive)
Catalouge is on drive D - different drive (HDD)
RAW cache is located on frive G - different drive (HDD)
When I view the photos to select the files I want to import my C drive is filled up by file:
    C:\Users\Gimmickz\AppData\Local\Temp\cr_sdk_023324  10.tmp
When I restart lightroom, the space is cleared.
I saw that many people had a similar problem (they concerned the same file: cr_sdk_XXXXXXXX.tmp) , but occurred when exporting resized images.
I've a problem with the choice of images to then work on them. Usually I select 20-30, added to the catalog and then resets Lightroom to select the next images.
This is very annoying when I have to select hundreds of images.
If a solution to this problem was already on the forum, please do not delete my topic (cost me a lot of effort to describe my problem in English) - Just give a link to the solution, or write it again - plain English as possible. alternatively, please contact: [email protected]
It is very important to me - I can not fully work on this software - please help.
    Regards,
    Gimmickz.

    Hi Hal!
Thank you so, so much for your reply!
    Thats make sense.
Today I'm away from home, but tomorrow I'll check it, but I think this will solve my problem and I will be able to work comfortably.
However, such large temp files should not be normal... you confirm? (temp file after viewed a few (20-50) photos can be more than 10 GB.)
Best regards and again - thank you Hal!
