Trouble with inserting pages in Adobe 9 Standard

"Insert Pages" function was not available when trying to insert pages: from file: is greyed out and the pdf's were created in Adobe 8 standard, did try the combine function using the merge function but the signatures were lost and it did state that it was better to do a portfolio but when doing the portfolio you are unable to select the display meaning how to look at the portfolio which is not good, because basically the insert pages function allows you to look at all pdf's together in a straight vertical line and the portfolio function you have to click one pdf at a time to really view the pdf even though they all show in the portfolio and they are displayed horizontal.
I would think that Adobe 9 standard is compatible with pdf's created in Adobe 8 standard there has to be a work around to insert pages and have the option to put them before or after the pdf's that are already there.
I am hoping someone can give some insight on this issue with Adobe 9 standard.

Is it possible to insert images in Adobe 9 Standard?

It appears that it is not possible to insert images in Adobe 9 Standard. There is no TouchUp Object Tool in the Advanced Editing Toolbar in the standard version. Only a TouchUp Text Tool. Is this not a basic function being able to add or change an image in a document? The tutorials all show this as a capability but they are also demonstrating in the Pro version of Acrobat. Is there a work around or have I been suckered into buying a product that doesn't quite meet my needs?

The Touch-Up Object tool is not available in Standard.
Adobe Acrobat is not meant to be a word processing program; it is meant to be a cross-platform method for document exchange. Changes are best made in the source program. While the answer to your question would not have been obvious from this list, it is a good reference for the difference between Acrobat products: http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/matrix.html .
If for some reason it is not possible to edit the source file and create the pdf again, you can insert your image as a form button and then flatten it. A lot more work, but post if you want help with this.

Why can't I insert pages in Adobe XI anymore?

Since I've downloaded updates for Adobe Reader XI now I can't insert pages or delete pages. Am I doing something wrong or did they change the easy way I was doing it before?

You never, never could insert pages in Adobe Reader. But you could in Adobe Acrobat.
My guess is that you had Adobe Acrobat, but were invited to download Adobe Reader. This destroyed your Acrobat install, which you will probably want to put back if you can find the disks and serial number, or have a suitable full system backup.

Trouble with inserting a page

Pages '09 v. 4.0.3
While trying to insert a page in a Pages (Page Layout) document, using the "Insert" toolbar, I can get a blank page to insert, but the other templates merely flash the "inserting page" progression bar very quickly, but no page is inserted. Any ideas?

Do you mean you are using Insert > Pages > blank or text?
If you look at the bottom of the page window you can read how many pages you have. That number doesn't change?
Do you have thumbnails showing? You should see if you got a new page there. If you have chosen a page you already have you will get a new exactly the same page and for your eyes it will appear as you didn't get a new page.

Help with inserting pages into a PDF form

Hi everyone,
I used LiveCycle Designer ES for the first time to make a fillable PDF form. The form works splendidly, but the users wish to insert PDF pages to the end of the form before submitting (using Acrobat).
I can't figure out how to allow this to happen.
I open the form I made in Acrobat 9.0 and the Insert Pages tab is greyed out.
I went back to LC and set form options to "Allow all changs except extract" and this seems to have done nothing.
When I look at the security settings in Adobe and click on Permissions Details, I see two different things. In Docmuent Security, the security method is set as Password Security and if I open Show Details It says changing the Document is allowed.
But in the Document Restrictions Summary, changing the Document is set at Not allowed.
Probably a newbie question, but I am stumped.

If you've created a dynamic form, then the PDF document is no loger an acroform, it's an XFA form. I might be wrong, but I'm fairly certain that XFA forms can't have their pages extracted or have pages added via Acrobat.
If that is the case (I'm fairly certain it is) then you have a few options:
1) Redesign the form in Acrobat, losing the dynamic functionality.
2) Create the form in Livecycle, and include the hidden subform that is shown on submit or button press (this would require you to know what the users want added, it would also require that the thing they're adding is always the same)
3) Install a virtual printer, get them to fill out the dynamic form, then 'print' the via the dynamic printer.
Personally, I'd go with option 3. A virtual printer is a program that prints the current document to a file, instead of an actual printer. 'Cute PDF Writer' is a virtual printer that is able to 'print' any document to a new pdf document. The new form will not be dynamic, and the fields are made read-only (hense why they should fill it out before printing it), but you will be able to insert pages.

That could happen in InDesign CS5 or later if you accidentally selected the Page tool (3rd from top), clicked on one of the pages of the spread, and either dragged slightly or pressed one of the arrow keys to move one of the pages of the spread.
Just reverse the process with the Page tool.

Trouble with unprintable characters in Adobe Print form

Hi experts,
I'm trying to implement an adobe printform containing a PDF417 Barcode. To separate the datafields within the barcode, i have to use some unprinteable characters like hex 1E or 1C and so on.
I had the same issue in SMARTFORMS a few years ago, but was able to solve it in smartforms using /0x1E or /0x1C. Now I tried the same in Adobe Forms, but there comes an error in SM21 (syslog), telling me, that there was a problem during a Render operation. (Processing exception during a "Render" operation... A problem was encountered with the results: RenderResult array is null.)
I tried to use this coding as well:
data: zrecsep type c.
field-symbols: <f>.
label_data_barcode-recsep = '1E'. "recsep is type x
ASSIGN label_data_barcode-recsep to <f> CASTING TYPE C.
move <f> to zrecsep.
clear <f>.
After that, zrecsep contains '#', but in hex the correct value '1E'.
This coding works for all printable characters, such as hex 66 for 'f' or hex 5B for '[', but not for unrintable characters like hex 1E. In case of an unprintable character, a new syslog entry appears.
Any ideas?

Here is the answer of the SAP support:
unfortunatelly this control character is not supported by the XML
standard and the data in the SOAP request is delivered in XML format to
the ADS. Therefore such character cannot be used.

Is there any other possibility to generate the pdf417 barcode and use
it inside the pdf form? For example: Is it possible, to generate the
barcode-image before calling the ADS-function and submit the address of
the image instead of the string for the barcode?

I understand that you don't want to print out the string value. But it
works as follows: the template (which contains the empty label
definition) and the data (which contains the value for the label) are
sent to ADS and on ADS side will the label generated.
Therefore it is also not possible with ADS that you create the label
befor sending it to ADS.
The only thing I can imagine that you create the label with an external
program and you insert it into the template as an image. But I don't
know if it is possible for you.
Conclusion: There is definitely no chance to use such characters in Adobe print forms due to the XML standard which is used to process the data inside the ADS.
In my case, i have to use SMARTFORMS technology to create the label with a pdf417 barcode containing these special characters.

That is a well known bug/ feature. In SFP transaction use the tab Layout instead of the button layout. The form will be opened. Open the Font/ paragraph window, place it where you want (between the other palletes so you can see everything you need) and jump back to SFP/ close the form. Now you can open the full-screen layout using the button and the font window will work for you. Regards Otto

If I do the following two lines before sending my $Query string through the parse function
$name = "Dominick's";
$Query = "INSERT INTO customers (name) values ('$name')";
it gives me the following error:
Warning: Ora_Parse failed (ORA-00917: missing comma -- while processing OCI function OPARSE)
If I try and force the single quote to be surrounded by double quotes and therefore not be confused:
$name = "Dominick's";
Query = "INSERT INTO customers (name) values (\"$name\")";
Trying that yields the following error:
Warning: Ora_Parse failed (ORA-01741: illegal zero-length identifier -- while processing OCI function OPARSE)

Trouble with windows after deleting Acrobat 9 Standard

After I delete Acrobat Standard 9, via the control Panel's Add/Remove Programs, I can no longer use any thing from the My Computer window (Windows XP). No matter what I click on the hour glass appears and the workstation freezes, I have to power down the workstation. Even when this is done the issue does not go away. I am forced to redo the desktop image. This happens no matter which 9.0 update I have installed. I have tried them all 9.1, 9.12 through 9.4.

I suspect that's not the problem, as I have no trouble selecting an area of any size I wish of images/objects most of the time. The Select tool, at least in Acrobat 9, allows you to do this.

Having issues with making word docs, email and webpages using Firefox to PDF. Here is my info and can you fix this via a remote login with my permission? Adobe X Standard 10.0

Redownloaded this software into my new machine with Windows 7 and it just hangs up when trying to convert Word Docs, Emails via webmail and web pages to PDF. I select it from the printers dropdown menu
but it just hangs up.

Is the install fully updated? If not consider doing so and trying again.

Firefox will not open any page but I have no trouble with the pages opening with explorer

unable to connect to any page through firefox but can open all with internet explorer, why can't firefox open them. It can not be my connection or my network because I can still open with explorer and nothing has changed with my computer. Please help I really like to use firefox
