Trouble with iphoto categorizing photos correctly.

I just upgraded and now my recent photos are not showing up in events or in photos only in last import and last 12 months. How do I get them to automatically go to events?
I have an imac and I just upgraded iphoto, though this seemed to be an issue for the last few uploads from my computer before the upgrade.

Select a pic in Last Import and Right-Click on it. Choose 'Show Event' from the menu. This will bring you to the Event containing the photo.
If the photo is in Last Import, then the photo is in the Library somewhere,  just not where you expect it to be. Usual causes: the date on your camera is wrong, and so the date on the photo is wrong, or the sorting of the Events has changed (View Menu -> Sort Events)

    Ronleedek-
What App are you using with the microphone?  I've used Skype, which has a "test call" feature to check your microphone.
There is a good chance your microphone is defective, possibly disconnected inside the iPad.  If an Apple Store Genius can not fix it, you may get a new iPad on the spot.

  • I am having trouble with iPhoto-it won't launch.

am having trouble with iPhoto-it won't launch and leaves a blank white screen box and spinning wheel of death-if I re-install software-will I lose all photos and faces settings? Any ideas-this is a Mac Pro and Xserve school system.
It seemed to stem from when I was transferring some movie footage from an HD camcorder to iMovie.
This is a school system and I'm worried I may lose many photos and face recognition data.

    1. The library is separate from the application, so re-installing shouldn't cause an issue with the actual photos. But it would be foolhardy in the extreme to do anything without first backing up.
    2. Often these issues are caused by a damaged Library, so reinstalling doesn't change much.
    FWIW
    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store you can find it in your Purchases List.
    Alternative approach:
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • Trouble with iPhoto after latest update for compatibility with RAW-files

Hi all, I'm having serious trouble with iPhoto since the latest update for compatibility with RAW-files for digital fotocamera's (version 2.4).
After connection with the camera iphoto starts up as usual and i can start importing my pictures. So far all goes well. After having imported my pictures (visual with thumbs and so one) and having created an event iPhoto isn't able to show any pictures. Stopping and restarting Iphoto gives a message that there are a number of photo's available that havent been imported yet (!!???). I can choose to import or ignore. Whatever i choose i'm not capable of visualising the photo's.
Anyone with a similar problem and the solution? Can i remove the update?
I've tried several camera's all with the same problem.
    thx for any replies
    niki001

Hi Terence, thanks for the reply (i'll wait with the downgrade for now ;-p).
I made a small step by step report of my findings:
    1. Attach camera to imac
    2. iPhoto starts up with previews of the pictures (so far so good)
    3. Give event-name and start import ( so far so good)
    4. 'Latest Import'-report all fine, previews ok, check with event : previews fine. All seems well
    5. disconnect camera, stop iPhoto. As far as now all seems normal.
    6. Restart iPhoto : Message 'iPhoto Library contains photo's which havent been imported. Import Y/N?'.!!!???
    7. Option Y : IPhoto imports photo's imported in step 3 in a new event box (shown as a 'black box' on screen). Last made event (step 3) shows up as a black square in overview all events. Double click on event gives empty squares where previews should appear. Double click on photo preview gives large explanationmark on screen.
    8. Drag event-box over screen shows thumbs within square, release event returns to 'black box'.
    9. Shut down iPhoto.
    10. Restart iPhoto jumps back to step 6 as long as i keep answering Y.(Each time creating a new extra 'black box event').
    11. When i now look within iPhoto Library i can find a map Import in which i can find back the last imported photo's from step 3.
    12. Dragging these pictures to my desktop (preview gives no problem at all) and from there back in to iPhoto simply recreats a new 'black box event'.
    13. In step 6 option N gives a message 'creat iphoto Library recovered'. In iPhoto Library map Import has disapeared.
14.When looking into map 'iphoto Library recovered' i can find my originally iported photo's. However same problem as in step 12.
I used aperture (trial version) to see wether the problem could be photo-related, but here al goes well.
    So, any idea's???
    thx

  • Updated iphone 5 to iOS 6.1.3, now trouble with keyboard not responding correctly and screen zooming in by itself...

updated iphone 5 to iOS 6.1.3, now I am having trouble with keyboard not responding correctly and screen zooming in by itself...
    Buttons pressing themself...
Also, my main screen is permanently zoomed in...
    suggestions?

Double tap the screen with THREE fingers, that should get it back to normal again.
Then go into Settings > General > Accessibility > Zoom > OFF.
Not too sure about the keyboard and random button presses though.  Back it up and restore from iTunes, see if that fixes it.

  • Hi having trouble with camera roll photos - can not see them in i tunes

Hi having trouble with camera roll photos - can not see them in i tunes. Is adobe photoshop the only program I can use?

You don't see them in iTunes. In theory your computer should see the device as a camera and you should be able to transfer the photos in the same way as if you'd connected a 'proper' camera to your computer (this only applies to photos taken with the device or saved from emails/websites etc, it doesn't apply to photos that were synced from your computer). There is some help/guidance in this article for transferring photos to your computer : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083

  • Trouble with iPhoto and iPhoto library manager.

I had trouble with my iPhoto constantly crashing, so I downloaded and used iPhoto Library Manager. Now when I am trying to get back to using iPhoto by re-importing my pictures, I keep getting a notification saying there is not enough space on my harddrive. I have spent a long time deleting large and unneccessary files all over my computer, but I am still unable to import my images to the iPhoto library.
Does anyone have an idea of what I can do? I am starting to get worried that I will never be able to reach my pictures again
+ I have deleted all iPhoto iPod caches or whatever they're called based on recommendation from many sites.

OS X needs about 10 gigs of hard drive space for normal OS operations - things like virtual memory, temporary files and so on.
Without this space your Mac will slow down as the OS hunts for space on the disk, files will be fragmented, also slowing things down, apps will crash and the risk of data corruption - that is damage to your files, photos, music - increases exponentially.
Your first priority is to make more space on that HD. Nothing else can be done until you do.
Purchase an external HD and move your Photos and Music to it. Both iPhoto and iTunes can run perfectly well with the Library on an external disk.

  • Trouble with sync once photos are all organized into folders on iphoto. Help!

I have imported and organized all of my pictures of off my iphone into iphoto. I then went to sync like I always do, only requesting that 2 folders (approx 900 photos) be put back on my phone. When the sync finished, it said that itunes couldnt sync 250 of the photos I asked it to. That's 1 issue. It said that itunes would tell my why it couldn't, then it didn't!
Problem #2 is this...my 2 folders of 900 photos shows up on my phone in the folders, but then all 900 photos are also in photo library. How do I keep these from showing up twice? It's taking up all of my memory with every photo being saved to my phone twice.
I've tried to find tutorials & help with Iphone & haven't had much luck. I've imported, foldered, synced, and gone about my business plenty of times before. Now i'm running out of memory & my phone is telling me it can't completely sync.

Is there an Albums section in the left hand pane?  If so move the cursor to the right of the Album name till Show appears and click on it?
If there is no left hand pane where the Event and Photos icons, albums, slideshows, etc. usually sit move the cursor over the  left edge of the window until it turns into a a cross like this:
then click and drag to the right to open the pane.
If you can't get that to work Try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
or with Lion and Mt. Lion from the User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto/
    Data/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder
3 - launch iPhoto, reset its various preferences and try again. The left hand pane will be visible.
NOTE 1: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
NOTE 2:  In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.

  • Trouble with iPhoto Buddy

Based on earlier good advise, I loaded iPhoto Buddy and tried to use it to create a new library on an external device. Here's the scenario:
1- Created a new folder on external drive using Finder
2- Used iPhoto to export all pictures to the new folder. This worked an exported 3126 photos, which is the correct number.
    3- Shut down iPhoto.
4- Used Finder to investigate new library. It looked ok and contained a "large" number of jpeg entries.
5- Started iPhoto Buddy and used the "+" sign to point to the new library and added it to the list.
6- Used Buddy to launch iPhoto pointing to the new library. No photots found
7- Then, in desparation, used Buddy to point to original library and used import pointing to the new library. It started up and it tried to import some 9000+ entries, which included dupes, deletes and other garbage.
So, do I push (export) from original library to new, or pull (import) in new library from old?
I am mystified and know that the solution is simple if not elusive. Can someone help?

    karlsmac:
Where were the photos located in the new library? If you didn't launch the new library and import those exported photos then that's the reason you don't see any photo in the new library.
You need to move those image files out of the new libraray folder to a folder on the desktop. Then open the new library and drag the folder of image files into the open iPhoto window.
However, if you would like to have the rolls and/or albums that those photos are in be carried over to the new library along with the keywords and comments then here's how you can do that.
1 - add all of those photos you want to transfer to an album in the old library.
2 - download and run iPhoto Library Manager to add both of those libraries to iPLM's window.
3 - set iPLM's Photo coyping preferences as shown here.
4 - in iPLM copy that album from your current library to the new one like you see the roll being copied in this screenshot video.
That will put those photos into the new library in the same rolls as they were in the original library. Then you can add additional rolls/albums is desired as time goes on.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Problems with iPhoto and Photo Booth

I can't open or use iPhoto. When I click on the icon on the dock, a pop-up comes up and says I "cannot create new library" because I "do not have enough access privileges". Then when I click Photo Booth a pop-up says Photo Booth cannot save any photos. I'm having trouble opening some programs. If it's helpful, my macbook pro is a 10.6.8 version. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

    Jambagroov-
I have not tried it, but found an article that explains how to sync your iPad to a new computer:  <How to Sync an iPad With a New Computer - eHow.com>.  I know you can lose your data if you do not do it right!
Another article is at:  <How to Sync an iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch with a new computer>.
Someone else may have a better reference, perhaps from Apple.
