Trouble with iweb SEO tool publishing to FTP address

Trying to publish using SEO tool to my FTP address and nothing happens in the status bar. I selected the folder to upload and choose the right server folder but no go. Any suggestions. Do I need to go on my host and clear out the publishing folder first? Also, do people recommend iWeb SEO tool over iMAP? I know SEO is free so I am trying that first. I use I tweak to add in google analytics so not sure how that works with SEO tool? Do I need to run iTweak and then iWeb SEO then publish? Thanks again.

I just tested it with a section of a website and it uploaded fine. Its going to depend on the size of your site files.
Are you using the latest V 1.3?
It's the first time I've tested the built in FTP as I usually add the meta stuff and then optimize before uploading. It doesn't seem to take any longer than the other FTP applications I use.

  • Trouble with Iweb SEO

So I am finally catching up to the 21st century by getting into Google analytics and Stat tracker.
I downloaded Iweb SEO tool from rage and did about 2 hours of work filling in all the correct titles, meta data, etc...
I published (from Iweb SEO) to the mobile me account.
Went to look at the source code of my site and none of the info is there.
Closed Iweb SEO, reopened and all the information is still in Iweb SEO.
I repeated the publishing process from Iweb SEO and waited a few hours.
Rechecked source from website and still info is not there.
I am now republishing my entire site from Iweb (which will take all night).
Will this work? Am I missing anything?

How are you accessing the published files after applying the tags with SEO? If you're using your browser and its View Code option clear your browser's cache as JRIH suggested. If you're accessing the files directly on the iDisk and using a text editor make sure you're not using the locale iDisk copy on your hard drive if you have iDisk Sync enabled in the System/MobileMe/iDisk preferences.

  • Title Tags not working with iWeb SEO Tool

I created my website using iWeb and realizing iWeb is very controlling over title tags and such, I downloaded the iWeb SEO Tool.  I have recorded my title tags and codes but when I search my site on google, Home is still recorded as the title tag.  I even went so far as to add an HTML Snippet to change the title tag using java script but still no luck.  Please help!

    The main question is :
Does the title you added show in the browser title bar?
If it does then SEO tools did its job.
But don't expect Google to stand waiting next to you and updates its database after you pressed the ok button.
Check again in a few weeks/months.
And do not waste your time with that silly application or using a JavaScript in the HTML Snippet for the intended purpose. Google does not execute the JavaScript.
Just read this very carefully :
iWeb uses the textbox in the Header layer of an iWeb page as the title in the browserwindow.
Do not remove the original textbox, as you cannot replace it other than by selecting another theme and then change it back to the original theme again. Ruining the layout in the process.
If the textbox in the Header is missing, iWeb uses a textbox down the page in the Content layer. If that textbox is also missing, it uses another textbox. If that fails it uses the pagename in the Sidebar.
Sometimes you may want a different text in the titlebar and not display it on the page itself. Or not display it at all.
So use that textbox in the Header layer. Type your text. Then select the textbox. In the Inspector choose T, click a color to open the color palette and drag the opacity slider to 0 (zero).
Do Command-T to open the font palette and make the font smaller. (Or do Command--(minus)) Also use a font that doesn't change to an image. Arial is a good font. Perhaps do it first before making the text invisble.
Resize the textbox. You may want to change the height of the Header layer.
Do Command-Shift-B to move the textbox to the back, possibly behind other objects.
Next add a optional second textbox to the Header layer and use that one to display text on the page.
If you want to move the textbox to the front again to make changes, but can't remember the location on the page, drag the area with the mouse to select the objects.
Deselect objects you do not want to move forward by Command-dragging the mouse over these objects.
Next do Command-Shift-F to move the textbox to the front. Repeat the steps in reverse order to make the text visible.
    Practice.
Then concentrate on creating interesting webpages.

  • Can't find images in Iweb SEO Tools to add alt-tags!

Hi everyone. I'm trying to add alt-tags to some images on an iweb site with iweb SEO tools but I can't get it to open the containing folder. I have a gallery set up with 6 categories and, in each of these categories, there are a few images. I navigate to the folder that contains each image (it actually contains 4 - the full sized image and three thumnails for use elsewhere - all of them jpgs) but iweb SEO Tools is just not recognising that the folder contains any images at all! I navigate my way through my file structure and, when I finally get to the containing folder, it hits a dead end and will not find the contents of it. Any ideas!?
An example of my file structure is as follows:
    RRF
    - Gallery
    - Pages
    - Landscapes_files
    - Media
    - dintonpastures [containing folder for images]
    - dintonpastures.jpg [that SEO refuses to see!]
Any help would be really appreciated!!

Photo templates are written in Javascript and cannot be accessed by iWeb SEO. Only images you create on a blank page or without using the photo template (HTML generated). They don't tell you that on Rage's website, in fact I find their advertising misleading in that they claim that you can alt tag "all" images in iWeb. But, it's free software, so you get what you pay for.

  • Problems with my Iweb site after using Iweb Seo Tool!!

I just used the Iweb Seo Tool with my Iweb 09. I followed the Seo webpage instructions to use it. I published it and everything seemed to work well.
I added Google analytics and used every option available that the tool offers
As of today. When trying to use my bookmarked link in my bookmarks toolbar, it didnt work.I entered my site into the address bar and my site loaded fine.
    But...I have some problems.
My comments in my blog have disapeared
I cant log into my MobileMe account through my system preferences
My password and use name are rejected
I can log into my site through MobileMe.com and I have even changed my password.
I have tried to publish my Iweb site and I get the error "Couldnt reach the MobileMe configuration server"
I publish using my idisk and mobileme account
I have looked on other forums and found out that if i move my "cache" from my "home" folder, to the desktop that it should work... no luck!!
    Please Help!!!!
my website is www.kulturetattoo.com if you want to see where my comments are. They are listed under "testimonials" on my home page
Can I just delete the Iweb Seo Tool and get rid of any metatags, google analytics and everything else? and have my old website back?

iWeb SEO Tool can modify your site after you've published to MobileMe. It will do it on the MMe server. Takes longer but you can avoid having to publish to a folder and then uploading from there. Also the latest version, 1.7.2, is supposed to work with blog pages according to the developer: http://www.ragesw.com/products/iweb-seo-tool.html

  • Iweb SEO tool won't upload to FTP

    Hello
I had success last month, when I had to migrate my iweb site to Godaddy for hosting, but now when I try to use iweb SEO to publish it via FTP, it times out. I get "connection lost", or just a "beep" as an error message. I'm using iweb SEO tool to install analytics code on my site (its a pretty easy process), but if there's another way to do that, as well as publish to godaddy, I'd love to hear about it
    thanks in advance

so here's another question. Ive enclosed a screen shot, as taken through Cyberduck. the highlighted folder at the bottom is the same as my site's name as it comes out of iweb. Seems that thats a duplicate of the entire site and can be deleted, right?
    thanks

  • How do I get site analytics with iWeb 09 MobileMe Rage iWeb SEO tool?

I have two sites of consideration both registered and forwarded from GoDaddy:
    bicycedriver.com    several pages
    bicycledriver.org     just one page
I was not getting site analytics data on referring sites and search engine/keyword data with code applied to bicycledriver.COM. Thats the site I'm interested in getting data. Then with the iWeb SEO tool, I accidentally applied the StatCounter and Godaddy Site Analytics code to bicycledriver.ORG, another one of several sites.
Now I get referring sites and searchengine/keyword data on bicycledriver.ORG but NOT on bicycledriver.COM
Should I find some way to reverse the above situation,... what would that be, or can someone tell me what's going on and how to fix it?
    David

    Ethmoid:
You're right.  I did know that, got it from this post by Akdream but miscopied it to my note pad where I copy and paste.  Thanks.
    bicycledriver:
There is no performance difference between CNAME and regular URL forwarding.  But if you mask with URL forwarding then the restrictions that Ethmoid pointed out come into play.
The drawback to using domain name forwarding with masking:
Visitors can only enter your web site via the first page.
Visitors can only bookmark the first page of your site.
If a visitor refreshes a page they will be taken back to the first page of the site.k
Search engines will only be able to use the first page of your site for indexing and rating your site.
#4 is a big drawback.  That can seriously minimize what search engines can learn about your site.

  • IWeb SEO Tool not working

I've think I fully understand the procedure to add Meta tags and change the Titles for pages created by iWeb using the iWeb SEO Tool but it is just not working for me, can somebody help?
The site in question www.thepropertyphotoclinic.co.uk is an iWeb constructed site uploaded by FTP to a server (not MobileMe). As I understand it I publish this site to a folder on my Mac. I then access this (folder) site using the SEO Tool. I add tags, headers etc. At first I assumed you could then republish by the FTP from iWeb with the new tags in place. I now understand that you have to publish by FTP using the 'publish' button on the SEO Tools dialogue. This I have done, but the tags and titles do not appear on the published site (when I check 'view source' in Safari).
    1. Why after taking about 10 minutes to publish via SEO Tools doea the site not appear with tags?
    2. Do I take it that had this method worked for me, I would have to do this whole procedure EVERY time I make a change to the website? ie, publish to a folder, reapply the tags, re-upload? This would be impossible for one of my sites which changes daily and is about 300Mb, as it takes hours to upload.
    Heeeelp!!

Your title tags are present in the HTML files and at the top of the browser window. Perhaps you didn't empty the browser cache and refresh the window when you viewed it?
You have to publish your site to a local folder to be able to add title tags, meta tags and meta descriptions whether you use iWeb SEO Tool or an editor. The advantage of the Tool is that it remembers the previously applied tags and, if you haven't added any pages or changed them significantly, refreshing them is a matter of moments.
Apart from adding tags, the other very important reason for publishing to a local folder is to optimize your files. This will result in pages that download around 50% faster in the browser and is particularly important for a business site.
Rage software's WebCrusher and Ton Brands Web Site Maestro will not only do this but also upload the changed files only....
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/SearchEngines/Optimize.html
When you add pages, hyperlinks or make significant changes to your site you should also refresh and upload the sitemap.xml and notify the search engines. Sitemap Automator takes all the work out of this time consuming task....
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/SearchEngines/Sitemap.html
There is a workflow that has to be repeated every time you publish. You can get a copy of the checklist by going to this page.....
    http://www.iwebforbusiness.com/SEO/SEO-Book-Sample-Request.html
Although the optimizer applications will find and upload the changed files only, I also build larger sites - bigger than about 3Mb - in sections on separate domain files to make them easier to handle and update.....

  • Iweb, SEO tool and Sitemap Automator

I am quite new to iweb and I am confused about how to go about getting my web site to different search engines like Google, Yahoo, etc...... Once I have created the web site in iweb do I need to use an SEO tool to put in tags, meta tags and alternate image text and then use a separate FTP program to upload those changes? When I try to upload changes directly from the iweb SEO Tool I either get a timed out error or login error. What am I doing wrong?
If I get the upload to work do I then use the Sitemap Automator?
Any advice would help at this point.
    Thanks,
    Eva

My hosting provider thinks that I just need to make the changes in SEO Tools and they are applied in iweb, and then I can just upload from iweb like I have been doing.
No you can't because the iWeb pages do not exist until they are published, either to the server or to a folder. SEO has to have the published files to be able to do its thing.
From my understanding I can't use the SEO Tool to upload the changes but what I need to be able to do is to publish to a file, use the SEO tool and then publish the changes I made in SEO with a separate FTP program like Classic FTP.
Correct. If Classic FTP doesn't work well for you give CyberDuck a try. It's free and is well though of here is the forum.

  • Iweb SEO tool not updating website

I've figured out how to use Rages iweb seo tool however, it's not showing up on the web. Why not? It still shows the old "welcome" as my page title or "about us" as my page title. I can see the information I put into the tool and I've clicked "apply." When I click "apply" it says "your changes have been applied", but it's not updating! So, I tried publishing WITHIN the SEO tool and then I did see the changes (for the title tag) but my navigation bar was removed and I could only get to the home page. It looks like the url was different as well.
    Please help!

iWeb SEO tool is a very useful application but I wouldn't recommend using for FTP. After republishing your site with any changes, reapply the tags with SEO tool and then upload your files with an FTP application.
If you don't have one, the freeware Cyberduck is good.....
    http://cyberduck.ch/
The reason that your website navigation is not showing is probably because the feed.xml file is missing. If you are using the iWeb default navigation you should consider getting rid of it and building a custom one in a text box as this is a lot better from the SEO point of view.

  • Iweb Seo Tool not uploading last updated file

    Hello,
I am using the Iweb Seo Tool to put title tags, google analicts...I have used it and it works, it updated me the data the first time.
But now I was doing some changes in the Iweb adding things, changing others....and I saved the changes in Local, then open Iweb Seo Tool press Re-Apply save tags, go to publish, try to upload through FTP like I did before and press browse go to the file CK_Translations try to get the last file updated (it should appear saturday 13:04 file changed) and it doesn't.
    http://picasaweb.google.com/carlinhosiro/IwebSeoToolErrorUploading#5541600955239 467618
Like you can see in the printscreen the exact date for last update (what the programm say) is jueves 18 Noviembre de 2010 a 10:50, but this is wrong is not real, I just change the file in Iweb save it in local and it should appear saturday 20 Noviembre de 2010 a 13:06....something is wrong, and it is not updating me the last version???
    Why?
    Can anybody help here.
    THANKS A LOT.

Did you check the files in the folder to see if the files modified has the correct dates? I've had folders with one date and the files inside with newer. That might be the case here.
Also you might try using a 3rd party FTP client like the free Cyberduck to upload the files. It can be setup to upload just the new or modified files if the steps in this tutorial are followed: Old Toad's Tutorial #2 - Uploading only those published new or newly edited files when using a 3rd party FTP client.

  • IWeb SEO Tool after iDisk is Gone

    Hello,
I used iWeb SEO Tool to add metadata to my site for better search engine identification with Google Analytics using Text Wrangler also.  The iWeb SEO Tool uses idisk to find the website and add the code.  I recently got hosting from HostExcellence and now I am not familiar with if at all possible I would be able to continue using this useful tool.  The only way I would think it could work is to publish it locally to a folder then use the iWeb SEO and then publish it via FTP. Can that be done?

That's how its done. Publish to a local folder, open this in iWeb SEO tool, add or re-apply the tags and then upload with an FTP or Optimizer application.
Its actually quicker doing it this way than via iDisk plus you have the opportunity to run the files through an optimizer which is pretty much essential for iWeb built sites.

  • IWeb SEO Tool 1.9.1

I published my site through iWeb SEO Tool and now can't publish through iWeb, please could someone help me resolve this.

What exactly are you trying to do using iWebSEO?  Most people download and use iWebSEO as a tool for adding Google analytics and title tags to their websites.  So this means that if you make changes to your website in iWeb, then you need to publish to a local folder and then open your html folder using iWebSEO, so that you can re-apply Google analytics and title tags before uploading your site again.
Is this what you are trying to do?
If you want to use iWebSEO, then you will need to publish your site from iWeb to a local folder.  You do not "re-import" as you put it.  You are not importing anything, simply opening the html files of your site with iWebSEO and no, if you want Google analytics or to add title tags, then no, your site will not update automatically - you need to add this to your site, or re-apply the saved tags to your site after publishing from iWeb and before uploading.  This is what iWebSEO is for.
To update your site, you need to alter and update this in iWeb itself and then publish your site to a local folder.  iWebSEO is designed for adding Google analytics and tags to your site and not for updating the contents itself, so no you can't use it for this.  Do this in iWeb first.
Cyberduck is a dedicated ftp programme that you can use only for uploading files to a server - this is the only thing that it was designed for and you can only use it for this purpose.
I use iWebSEO to add tags and analytics to my own site, so I make changes and then publish from iWeb to a local folder.
I then open my site files using iWebSEO and add my tags and analytics.
After having added these I then choose to upload my site using Cyberduck.

  • Can't find my iweb domain file when searching for it in iweb seo tool

I am trying to get my iweb website recognized by Google. Can't seem to get the google html code to work in html snippet. So am now trying to use the iweb seo tool but can't find my iweb domain file when searching for it in iweb seo tool. My file is in user/library/applicationsupport/iweb/name.sites2
It shows in the folder but is not active, so I can't choose it.

The SEO ftp client is not what I'd recommend using. Once you add the metadata to a local copy of the files use a 3rd party ftp client like the free Cyberduck to upload the files. Much more reliable.
Google does not use keywords for it's searches although other search engines do. Create a test page on your site (leave it out of the navbar) and try adding Google Analytics to it with Wyodor's instructions. If you get it to work then all you need to do is copy and paste the HTML snippet from the test page into your site pages.
For information on visitors to your site you can also use StatCounter. It records the number of visitors and a lot more: where they are from, what browser used, which page visited and what site/page then came from for just a few. SC is easy to add to the pages as you get the code for your account, put it in an HTML snippet add the snippet to each page. Old Toad's Tutorial #13 - Adding a StatCounter as an HTML Snippet describes how to do it.
Again use a test page or a separate test site to work out the details before adding to your site pages.
