Trouble with Linear Gradients

I am trying to use a horizontal linear gradient and when I
preview my image in a browser, there are vertical bars or "slices"
shown instead of a smooth gradient. Has anyone seen this or does
anyone know how to remedy it?

The problem is with the GIF format. It isn't capable of
displaying
smooth gradients. Have you tried exporting the animation in
SWF format?

Trouble with brush, gradient and filling

Hello
Few days ago i've found a problem with using brush, gradient and filling layer. Each time i started a new document, filled it with a solid color, it looked ok. But when i added a new layer, added soft brush on canvas and changed the mode to any mode, the result looked very pixelated. I tried with all brush i have and found it just happened with all brush which have outer glow style ( like soft basic brush, lighting...etc..) . It was the same when i used gradient, filled a selection and changed the mode of this layer. You can see it on screenshots below:

Apply gradient with normal mode
Soft light mode
Add more brush with Soft light mode
I've used photoshop for years and never seen such a case before. Any idea is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

"Pixilated" may be the wrong term. If you're talking about the appearance of bands in the data, perhaps you're referring to Posterization.
What bit depth is your document (e.g., 8 bits/channel? 16 bits/channel)? What color space (profile) is it in?
If indeed you're talking about the posterization, look into your Dithering settings. Dithering, when enabled, will mix pixels of adjacent colors to very effectively hide the appearance of posterization.
The following are two gradients, one rendered without [ ] Dither enabled, and one with, then contrast-enhanced with a Curves layer to show the difference in the appearance of posterization more clearly.

I would welcome some help with colour gradients in CS5 - please.

I am using CS5 and want to draw a curved line (with say line tool ) which has a coloured gradient running top to bottom uniformly within the stroke (or line) size.
Yes it sound simple but..........
I am happy (well I think I am) with Linear gradients and setting alphas etc
I have played with "extended colour" and reflected and repeated.
I have also looked at using the gradient transform tool But I can not find out how to produce a curved line with that magic vertical

I don't. I am positive that is how the image you showed originally was done if it was done in Flash. Your attempt doesn't do what I described (not sure what you did), and having contrasting color areas in the image makes the effect come off somewhat differently as well.

-webkit-linear-gradient not working with Adobe Air 3.0

I recently downloaded Adobe Air 3.0 after reading that gradients are now supported (http://www.adobe.com/devnet/air/ajax/articles/air_and_webkit.html), but I have not been able to successfully implement them. For example, I have the following CSS class defined:
.gradient_test {
     background-image: -webkit-linear-gradient(#68AB34, #3D721B);
     padding: 5px;
     color: #FFF;
This should (and does in Chrome, Safari, etc) create a linear gradient going from light to dark green. But in Air it just appears as if no background has been applied to the selector. Am I missing some unique way to be able to apply gradients in Adobe Air 3.0?

I don't know why this hasn't been addressed. I'm seeing the exact same problem. I've tried every permutation, but haven't been able to generate a gradient using any existing standard for webkit or otherwise (even though it's allegedly supported).

EDIT: I discovered that when the app is compiled, the gradients work fine. This one is driving my crazy, because I want to be able to test them. I get a mix of CSS support, depending on how the app is run.
From Dreamweaver CS3 "Preview" - My CSS doesn't show gradients and shows embedded web fonts.
From ADL - My CSS fails almost entirely, but some if it gets loaded.
From the compiled AIR file: fortunately, everything seems to display correctly, but it's really a bad scenario for development / testing. Not sure what to do.

Trouble with Gradient editor - Photoshop Mac

Hi,
I can't for the life of me figure out how to manipulate the gradient added to a layer (a rounded rectangle) in photoshop CS5.
I open the gradient editor and try to manipulate the gradient colors with the controls, but when I save, nothing changes with the gradient color.
What am I doing wrong?

Eliminating the color overlay did not work. I have CS5, so my blending options window looks like this:
So there is no gradient editor accessible in the blending options. And clicking on the preview does not do anything either. When I close the blending options, I go the gradient editor on the top of photoshop:
I then double click on the big dark rectangle in the above picture to access the gradient editor. Then when I try to manipulate the black squares with the white diamonds (below) in the gradient editor to get the right gradient, nothing happens when I press ok:
How should I go about this? THanks again for your help.... it is badly needed!

How do I apply a linear gradient to an S shape?

I recently created an S shape with the pen tool that is quite large in my photoshop cs4. I would like to know if there is a way for me to apply a linear gradient so that it follows the path of the S shape perfectly.
The effect should cause one of the sides of the letter S to actually fade into black (the gradient is a transparent to black gradient colors).
Is this even possible with my Photoshop cs4?

Thanks for the response. I have found a way to accomplish exactly what I want.
I use a stroke, set it to 'inner' style to the bottom most option, play with side and choose gradient
I played aorund with these settings on here and got it working perfectly.

Trouble printing a gradient in Illustrator CS3

Hi Guys,
I'm having trouble printing a gradient via color seperation on a ecrm MAKO 36 image setter...
I've uploaded a file. The top light blue border(gradient) will not print. If I take the gradient off it will seperate with no problems.
I've tried using the compatible gradient & mesh printer settings but it doesn't make any difference.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I looked at the file and found strange things about it. It has two groups of object that only have one object or path in the group and in each case the object has clipping path that does absolutely nothing I would eliminate the clipping by selecting them in the layers panel and deleting using the trash can in the layers panel.
I would select all the art and in the attributes panel I would make the overprint options for both Fills and strokes set as uncheck, which is what I thin is causing the problem as there is no reason for an overprint.

Using gradients with the gradient mesh tool

So I have a basic knowledge of using the gradient mesh tool, but in my current project I need the gradients within the object to fade from black to transparent (it will be used for a one-color tshirt). I've tried to do this a couple different ways. First, I created a solid white rectangle (no stroke) then created a 1 row 1 column flat gradient mesh on it. Added the points I needed, even added the color, and the fade is exactly the shape I need, but I can't figure out how to get rid of the white, and just have the black fade to transparent. I also tried creating a rectangle with a linear gradient fill, clicked expand and selected gradient mesh, but as soon as I press ok it changes it to solid black. I included a cropped picture of what I'm talking about. All the tail feathers need to have that black fade but without the white, it needs to fade out to transparent like the other gradients around it. I put a color background behind the image to make these areas easier to see. It seems like there should be an easy solution, but I'm not sure how to do it. Any help would be really appreciated.

Assuming that your version of Illustrator allows it, you can get what you want by adjusting the opacity of the mesh points, something like this:

No "ANGLE" Option for Linear Gradients in Motion 4!

Referring to the help section for Motion 4, there should be an "angle" tool for linear gradients, but there's not! I have a linear gradient that runs top to bottom and I want it to run left to right. Is there any other way to do this without having to rotate my entire shape object (which would require other modifications?)

You can do it by the numbers in the Inspector by changing the start and end points, or you can right-click in the Canvas and choose Edit Gradient to adjust it interactively - assuming it's a shape with a gradient applied.

Syntax for linear gradient

I'm getting:

But I'm copying the syntax from the only reference guide I can find (no reference is included in the JDK)

The docs in the SDK have the correct reference. You can find the ref by following the link from the class doc for Node. Here is the relevant section.
Linear Gradients <linear-gradient>
linear-gradient( [ [from <point> to <point>] | [ to <side-or-corner>], ]? [ [ repeat | reflect ], ]? <color-stop>[, <color-stop>]+)
where <side-or-corner> = [left | right] || [top | bottom]
Linear gradient creates a gradient going though all the stop colors along the line between the "from" <point> and the "to" <point>. If the points are percentages, then they are relative to the size of the area being filled. Percentage and length sizes can not be mixed in a single gradient function.
If neither repeat nor reflect are given, then the CycleMethod defaults "NO_CYCLE".
If neither [from <point> to <point>] nor [ to <side-or-corner> ] are given, then the gradient direction defaults to 'to bottom'.
Stops are per W3C color-stop syntax and are normalized accordingly.
This example will create a gradient from top left to bottom right of the filled area with red at the top left corner and black at the bottom right.
linear-gradient(to bottom right, red, black)
This is equivalent to:
linear-gradient(from 0% 0% to 100% 100%, red 0%, black 100%)
This more complex example will create a 50px high bar at the top with a 3 color gradient with white underneath for the rest of the filled area.

The following syntax for linear gradient does not conform to the CSS grammar and is deprecated in JavaFX 2.0. The JavaFX 2.0 CSS parser supports the syntax but this support may be removed in later releases.

I have been having a lot of trouble with the latest itunes update and my ipod classic 80Gb i.e. being unable to sync songs, but now i have no files at all on my ipod, it is completely blank when i view it from my computer. I need help, please, anybody.

As it says above, i have been having a lot f trouble with my ipod classic and the latest itunes update, i was unable to sync songs or anything to it and have tried every conceivable 'fix' i could find. i have run an itunes diagnostic and the results are posted below. a major problem is that when i try and view my ipod through my computer it displays nothing at all on the ipod, no files or anything, this may be the problem but i have no idea how it has happened or how i could resolve it.
This ipod holds huge sentimental value and i am loathe to buy a new one! If anybody can help it is greatly appreciated, than kyou in advanced.

Here is what worked for me:
My usb hub, being usb2, was too fast. I moved the wire to a usb port directory on my pc. That is a usb1 port which is slow enough to run your snyc.

Trouble with Toshiba built-in webcam: "unable to enumerate USB device"

Searching on the web, most results I found lead to this page, where it is said that the problem is due to badly tuned overcurrent protection, and advocated that unplugging and switching off the computer for a little while gets things back into normal. This does not really work for me; the problem seems to occur more randomly, unfortunately with high probability (my camera is available after less than one boot out of ten).
I tried to ensure that the ehci-hcd module is loaded at boot with the ignore-oc option (with a file in /etc/module-load.d/), to no avail.
I also wrote a script which alternatively removes and reloads the ehci-pci driver until my device is found in lsusb. It is sometimes helpful, but usually not. And even when my device is found that way, it can only be used for a while before disappearing again.
Anyway, such a hack is unacceptable... So, my questions are:
is it indeed related to overcurrent protection ?
is there anything else I can try ?
should I file somewhere an other of the numerous bug reports about "unable to enumerate USB device" already existing ?
If of any importance, I am running linux 3.15.7, because at the time I installed my system, I couldn't get the hybrid graphic card Intel/AMD working under 3.16.

I have an iPad 3, iPad Mini and iPhone 5S and they are all sluggish on capitalisation using shift keys. I hope that Apple will solve the problem because it is driving me crazy.
I find using a Microsoft Surface and Windows 8 phone, which I also have, work as well as all the ios devices before the ios 7 upgrade.
It has something to do with the length of time that you need to hold the shift key down. The shift key needs to be held longer than the letter key for the capitalisation to work. For some reason, this is a major change in the way we have learnt to touch type on computers. I am having to relearn how to type!

Trouble with OR in where clause

I'm having trouble with execution speed. The problem seems to be with using OR in my where clause.
Here's the meat of the function where i_pledge_number is an input parm:

If I comment out either half of the OR statement (either the subquery or the pp.prim_pledge_number = i_pledge_number half) the function returns a value in .02 seconds. If I leave the OR in, it takes 2.764 seconds to execute?? Can someone please show me a better way (faster) to do this? I tried using nvl() around the subquery but couldn't get it to compile.
