Trouble with Lion & Safari

Just downloaded Lion.  Safari is sluggish or gets stuck on opening most sites.  Many do not open.  Never had this problem before installing Lion.

Reset Safari A blanket approach to deleting many of the potentially problem-causing items is the Reset Safari... command, available under the Safari menu in Safari. Note, however, that this command also deletes your browser history, personal data -- such as stored login passwords, search entries, cookies and more -- that you may not want to clear. Still, it's a good initial cleansing step.
The Reset Safari command deletes all personal information and can also clear some files responsible for slowness

How can I reset Safari with all components? On my MacBook with Lion, Safari does not start, does not react immediately after trying to open it. Installing a new Safari does not help. Removing parts of Safari in the Library does not help. Where can I find and remove all components as LastSession and TopSites?

The only way to reinstall Safari on a Mac running v10.7 Lion is to restore OS X using OS X Recovery
Instead of restoring OS X in order to reinstall Safari, try troubleshooting extensions.
From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. Turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that helped, turn one extension on then quit and relaunch Safari to test until you find the incompatible extension then click uninstall.
If it's not an extensions issue, try troubleshooting third party plug-ins.
Back to Safari > Preferences. This time select the Security tab. Deselect:  Allow plug-ins. Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that made a difference, instructions for troubleshooting plugins here.
If it's not an extension or plug-in issue, delete the cache.
Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following
    ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Quit and relaunch Safari to test.

Hi there are various threads here for this issue
this one being the most extensive
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3191263?start=0&tstart=0
First step is re-start the finder
    1. Press command-option-esc simultaneously
    2. Select Finder
    3. Click on re-start
Then according to the above link, several people tried different things.
Try out what you find in above thread

  • Troubles with Lion, can't boot !

    Hello all,
Before all, I'm french so please excuse my language.
Since yesterday, I can't boot my Mac Book Pro. In fact, a loading bar, same like safe boot mode, appears a few seconds. Then, it disappeared and my mac shut down. I boot with Recovery HD, and in Disk Utilitaries, I see that Macintosh HD can't be repair (troubles about the lenght of key…). I have a External Hard Disk, but no save with Time Machine. I ask myself, can I restore Macintosh HD with Macintosh HD ? I explain, in restore of the utilitary, if I select as source and as destination Macintosh HD, it will works ? And permits to boot normally ?
    Thanks for help !
    B3nito

I understand the part about "[nothing] lower than 10.6.6". What I'm trying to find out is confirmation of something I read in a MacNN article regarding Macbook Pro's with Lion pre-installed--that they cannot boot "other versions of MacOS X".
If this is the case and if there is no workaround, I guess I'm going to be looking at refurbs if I don't find any old-stock boxes next month, when I will be able to purchase a new computer.
(The reason for my concern is not about the point of the MacNN article, which was about the fact that those particular Macbook Pro's have no Lion recovery option should the hard disk go completely bad--requiring either a trip to Apple Service or the currently unvailable Lion USB flash media to restore Lion to the replacement drive; rather, it is that I still need Rosetta for some of the software I'm using.)

  • Trouble with Lion upgrade: 2009 Mac Mini not rebooting.

    Hi folks,
I'm having trouble with the Lion upgrade. My 2009 Mac Mini (running Snow Leopard) won't reboot. Everything looked fine, but it just went black after the gray and white Apple symbol screen on the restart and I can't get it to get past this. I should mention I'm using wireless keyboard and trackpad (both Apple) and a Philips HDTV via HDMI cable as monitor. Any thought? Looking forward to using Lion.
    Thanks,
    Chris.

Is anyone else having this problem (an infinite loop of "You need to restart your computer" messages)?
Any thoughts or suggestions? I don't know how I can fix the problem, since I can't properly boot into the OS. I tried holding down the shift button to boot into Safe mode, only to achieve the same results.
Any help would be much appreciated. I'm really looking forward to using Lion.
    Thanks,
    Chris

  • Troubles with the Safari 4.1 update

I just downloaded the Safari update and it doesn't launch at all. No window at all. I have to use Firefox if I want to use the Internet. Anyone know what's wrong. I'm afraid to update from now on because it turns out to be worse.

I just updated the computer and now Safari will not open for network users -- it works fine when I log on locally. I have cleared any and all caches and preferences I have found relating to Safari. Below is the report. Please help!

  • Is anyone else having trouble with lion?

I bought Lion upon the first release, installed on my computers.
I wasn't happy with it and went back to Snow Leopard.
After the latest iOS5 update on my ipad, I reinstalled Lion as they are supposed to work seamlessly.
To start with;  Numerous app's do not work, even with supposed  updates.
iPhoto is a hassle to keep organised if it will load photos at all.
The whole system seems to run a lot slower, with that spinning wheel intruding more often than it used to on Snow leopard.
And most annoying for me, since going to Lion again and having my appleTV do the latest firmware update, the things are not communicating as
before. i.e. between iMac, iPad and appleTV.
Before anyone starts telling me to check my network/ internet connections,.. they are all good.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Third-party system modifications are a common cause of usability problems. By a “system modification,” I mean software that affects the operation of other software -- potentially for the worse. The following procedure will help identify which such modifications you've installed. Don’t be alarmed by the complexity of these instructions -- they’re easy to carry out and won’t change anything on your Mac.
These steps are to be taken while booted in “normal” mode, not in safe mode. If you’re now running in safe mode, reboot as usual before continuing.
Below are four lines of text in monospaced type, which are UNIX shell commands. They’re harmless, but they must be entered exactly as given in order to work. If you have doubts about the safety of running these commands, search this site for other discussions in which they’ve been used without any report of ill effects.
Some of the commands will line-wrap in your browser, but each one is really just a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, and you can then either copy or drag it. The headings “Step 1” and so on are not part of the commands.
Note: If you have more than one user account, Step 2 must be taken as an administrator. Ordinarily that would be the user created automatically when you booted the system for the first time. The other steps should be taken as the user who has the problem, if different. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this paragraph doesn’t apply.
To begin, launch the Terminal application; e.g., by entering the first few letters of its name in a Spotlight search.
    Step 1
Copy or drag -- do not type -- the line below into the Terminal window, then press return:
    kextstat -kl | awk ' !/apple/ { print $6 $7 } '
Post the lines of output (if any) that appear below what you just entered (the text, please, not a screenshot.)
    Step 2
    Repeat with this line:
    sudo launchctl list | sed 1d | awk ' !/0x|apple|com\.vix|edu\.|org\./ { print $3 } '
This time, you'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. You don't need to post the warning.
    Step 3
    launchctl list | sed 1d | awk ' !/0x|apple|edu\.|org\./ { print $3 } '
    Step 4
    ls -1A {,/}Library/{Ad,Compon,Ex,Fram,In,La,Mail/Bu,P*P,Priv,Qu,Scripti,Servi,Sta}* 2> /dev/null
Important: If you synchronize with a MobileMe account, your me.com email address may appear in the output of the above command. If so, change it to something like “[email protected]” before posting.
Remember, this is all drag-and-drop or copy-and-paste, whichever you prefer -- no typing, except your password.
    You can then quit Terminal.

  • Trouble with Lion and opening applications

I recently downloaded Lion and now iTunes and other various applications won't open, it shows an error message. Can I uninstall Lion or how do I make these applications open?

    dwb wrote:
I don't think having iTunes on the desktop is going cause this trouble but like Marc, I wonder what it is doing there?
It's not iTunes being specifically out on the desktop, but once the user thinks it's OK to start randomly changing things, it's better to try to get a list of what they have changed rather than guessing.
At least that's been my experience.
In this specific case, iTunes won't launch because the framework it's trying to find inside the app bundle isn't there.  It would be there if the user hadn't been twisting knobs.

  • Trouble with Lion Partition Resize

    Macbook Pro Mid-09
    Lion 10.7.4
I had 3 Partitions set up on my HD. 1 for Lion, 1 for another Work, and 1 for Bootcamp.
I opened Disk Utility and erased my Work partition (Empty Space between Mac and Boot). Afterwards, I attempted to resize the Macintosh HD partition to its fullest extent without interrupting my bootcamp partition. I drag the corner and hit apply. The message says the partition resizing is complete however it reverts back to its original size immediately afterwards.
I searched the forum and attempted the USB recovery utility method. I ran the verifications and the disk did not need any repairs. Once again, I attempted to resize the partition. It says its complete but once again goes back to its original size.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

yes. I deleted the middle partition (shows up gray in pic) by pressing the ( - ).

  • I am having trouble with my Mac Mini's ethernet connection.   Defining a new network interface shows no ethernet adaptor.  Reloading SL from DVD repaired.  But SL update lost ethernet again.  Will Lion Fix?

I am having trouble with my mac mini ethernet.  It had been working for weeks after an update to SL 10.6.8.
Once it went out and i repaired it by defining a new connection from System Preferences ->Network->(left panel service, +).
But yesterday, after a power up.  my ethernet was not working again. I tried this old trick to repair it, but the interface choices
listed for '+' a new service did not include Ethernet any more.  And the Utilities->System Profiler->Ethernet Cards shows
    no ethernet available.
As a last ditch effort i reloaded my original SL from DVD.  (I think it was version 10.6.4 but i could be mistaken on the version).
The ethernet worked!  But KeyNote wasn't going to work because apparently the version i purchased depends on 10.6.8.
So I upgraded again to SL 10.6.8 (Plus some other updates like AirPort which i don't use).
Now the Ethernet is not working again.  I see the same symptoms as before with the Ethernet seeming not installed.
Is this a problem seen by others?
Would going to Lion fix the problem?
Could AirPort actually be the culprit and not SL?
If i stay with my original SL, would i need to repurchase a version of KeyNote for the older version of SL?

    Have you reset the SMC?
    Shut down the computer.
    Unplug the computer's power cord.
    Wait fifteen seconds.
    Attach the computer's power cord.
Wait five seconds, then press the power button to turn on the computer.
While you're at it, resetting the PRAM won't hurt anything and 'might' help is SMC reset didn't work (PRAM does some port control):
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
Something else you might try .... you don't say how you're updating to 10.6.8, however, if you're using Software Update, you might try downloading the 10.6.8 combo update, which contains all updates to 10.6. Sometimes, Software Update doesn't work quite right, and installing the combo update fixes that. Download the update from Apple's download site at http://support.apple.com/downloads/ , using Disk Utility repair permissions, apply the combo update, then repair permissions again.

  • Magic Track Pad with Lion 10.7 and Safari zoom aA vs Pinch to zoom

    Hi,
I enjoy a Mac Mini (early 2009) hooked to a 50 inch plasma and surf from my couch, stream etc... We browse with Safari 5.X and enjoyed the new Magic Track Pad with Snow Leopard. You could zoom / scale Safari with Snow Leopard beautifully, with a pinch out on the trackpad, same function as aA option on the browser task bar.
Now with Lion, the pinch to zoom feature zooms but doesn't scale the safari window the same way aA option used to.  In lion a pinch out to zoom in will push a significant part of the browser screen off / out of view.
The aA option on the safari task bar scales the window, and keeps everything visible but larger, but now in Lion it is not available from the Magic Track Pad Gestures. The Button is still there on the browser but there is no option to access it from the track pad with a gesture.
How can I revert to the old way of zooming / Scaling a Safari web page with my Magic track pad in Lion?
    Thanks,
    H

You can see in that screenshot that a lot of browser.gesture.pinch prefs have an empty string as their value and thus won't have any effect.
You can restore some zoom feature by modifying the values of the related prefs on the <b>about:config</b> page via the right-click context menu.
    * browser.gesture.pinch.in -> <b>cmd_fullZoomReduce</b>
    * browser.gesture.pinch.in.shift -> <b>cmd_fullZoomReset</b>
    * browser.gesture.pinch.out -> <b>cmd_fullZoomEnlarge</b>
    * browser.gesture.pinch.out.shift -> <b>cmd_fullZoomReset</b>
You may want to toggle this pref (I don't know what effect this has):
    * browser.gesture.pinch.latched -> <b>false</b>
