Trouble with managing songs manually on 2 computers

I usually manually manage my songs on my iTouch so that i can add songs from different computers and i won't only have songs synced from one computer.
However after buying iPhone4, I've been having trouble with doing the same.
Even when i have already ticked the "manually manage music and videos" box on my computer, the box will be unticked when i plug it into another computer. And when i tick the box it says that i have already synced to one iTunes library and i need to erase and sync it to that computer.
So what is the point of MANUALLY managing my music and videos when i can't do so without erasing everything? I don't usually have problems with this on my iTouch.

Incorrect. Up until extremely recently, you'd do all your Syncing on one Mac, but could still plug your iPhone into another Mac to manually drop music/videos onto it (as long as the Manually Manage option was checked while on your main Mac.)
I'm not sure if it was an iTunes update or an iOS update that killed this fantastic feature, but something sure did. Now if I have some tunes on my home (secondary) Mac that I want to toss onto my iPhone before leaving for work in the morning, I can't! Argh!
Huge killer.

  • Is anyone else experiencing trouble with removing songs off your iPhone via iTunes?

iTunes 11 is so difficult to work! I can't even access the option to remove songs off my iPhone whilst it's connected to iTunes. Not sure if there's a super complicated way to do it but it's so unconvenient which I really hate. Any solutions? Seeing as I can't contact Apple through email I'm asking the community as they seem to know more about iTunes than the actual company does.
    Thanks in advance, guys..

    Hello Kizzrawr,
Thanks for the question, and welcome to the Apple Support Communities.
I understand you are having issues syncing your iPhone 5 with iTunes 11, specifically trying to remove songs. I can definitely help, however the answer is going to be based on how you have configured you iPhone to sync.
First, you may want to enable the sidebar to bring back the familiarity of past iTunes versions:
    iTunes 11: Frequently used features
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5649
Afterwards, your device should be displayed if connected:
We'll want to click on it, and choose the Music tab at the top. If sync music is checked, which option do we have selected? "Entire Library" or "Selected playlists, artists…" - the latter of which may be best for your needs.
Otherwise, you can always manually manage the music on your iPhone. The following resource may provide more information on how to do so:

  • Trouble with loading videos - Manually manage music and videos not supported now with iOS5 and a 1st gen iPad?

Since updating my iPad 1st gen to iOS5.0.1 videos don't get loaded properly into the Videos app.
On the Summary page in iTunes of my docked iPad, I have always checked the box for "Manually manage music and videos".
I have my reasons for doing it this way, but that's for another thread perhaps.
The problem is that when I load a video to my iPad this way - by simply just dragging it from the desktop and onto the iPad, under Devices in iTunes - it copies/updates, and shows up on the iPad like it always has before iOS5. But now, with iOS5, when I undock, it can't be found anywhere within the Videos app on the iPad. The only way I can find it is to do a Search, which seems to find it, but when I click it, a different video plays - the first video in the Movies list in the Video app. Dock the iPad again, yes the video is there, according to iTunes, but no way to play it once iPad is undocked.
My suspicion is that with iOS5 you are no longer able to use the "Manually manage music and videos (Mmm&v)" that you will be forced to run everything through iTunes - and probably iCloud. I've unchecked the Mmm&v box, and get prompted with "Are you sure? - All existing content on the iPad will be replaced with content from your iTunes library". READ - "Rebuild your entire video and music collection, and this time run it all through iTunes. Welcome to iOS5. Have a nice day or two wasting your time rebuilding your entire video and music collection. Don't fight it. Use iTunes for everything! Until we finally make iTunes a decent piece of digital media management software, then you'll have to do it all again."
Okay, rant over - Anyone out there with running iOS5 on a 1st gen iPad with the Mmm&v option checked and able to load a video manually (not through iTunes)? Any other thoughts?
    Thanks

Yea, i managed to fix my issue in a wild fashion way But I DONT suggest it to anyone.
I like to hear why it happened after upgrading iTunes and if there is any peaceful solution.
Bythe way, here is how i fixed it :
1-i checked "manually manage music and videos" checkbox and clicked on "Sync" button
2-It showed a threating message that it will erase my music and videos ,......
3-I clicked on OK button and let iTunes do any thing she said , but the second it started to delete my treasures from my iphone, i disconnected my phone by pulling USB cable.
Now i have my musics and videos untouched and got that Option enabled again and i can manage my Music/Videos and Books manually.

  • Trouble with downloading songs from itunes to iphone

I have purchased around 600 songs over the years many of them i had on an older ipod.  I recently tried to download all songs to my iphone half of the songs downloaded to a playlist and most say "download error tap to retry,  after several retry attempts it wont download. I have even opened my phone up to our home's wi fi....please help

    hi jason,
imho, the lack of manual music and video management
is a mistake. i've had 4 ipods over the years and have always used
manual mode. the playlist hack works okay
    and is only mildly cumbersome.
however i tend to buy music from itunes both on my
imac at home and my pc at work. i've always simply
been to plug in my ipod to either computer and grab my
purchases, in either location. now, my iphone is "locked"
to my imac. i'm sure apple had a good reason to leave out
manual management, but i would suggest revisiting this
    asap.

  • Manage Songs Manually problem

I have a recently purchased Nano and it is loading and playing songs fine. I have it hooked up to a USB2 port and driver v7.1 installed. I want to manage my music manually. Following the directions I got as far as the Summary Tab. I am supposed to select "Manually manage music". Problem is - it doesn't display that selection. Nothing regarding manually doing anything. Can someone tell me where I am going wrong?

At the Summary tab, click on the Music tab and it is in there.

  • Trouble with Long Song in Logic

Has anybody ever run into this:
I have to record a real estate book on tape type deal, total of 2-3 hours, each song is set to tempo of 60 so I get more time. There are a total of about 200 takes, 2 tracks.
Here's the problem: when I close out the song and then load it back in, logic tells me that 37 files aren't referenced and when looking at the files they are blank!
After about a week of loading that same song up, the number of ref'd files goes down and then all of the files load up properly. ?????????
I am recording to a SATA drive on the G5 and I tried correcting permissions and even loading the project manager to see if that helps. It only happens when I'm doing a particularly long song file.
    Any thoughts?

  • Encoding Trouble with Long Songs

Hello everybody! I listen to a lot of groups with exceptionally long songs and i've found that iTunes does a pretty bad job of importing the songs without any types of skipping or distortion. I've tried every format, including AIFF, Lossless, MP3 at 320 kbps, etc. and none does the job within iTunes. Can somebody recommend me a technique to use within iTunes that will eliminate these errors or another program that will do a good job of importing my CDs? Problems are apparent on tracks greater than 10 minutes in length. Thank you!

Have you tried this classic advice from iTunes Help: *Choose Edit > Preferences and click Import Settings. If the “Use error correction when reading Audio CDs” checkbox is not selected, select it. If it's already selected, deselect it.*

  • Troubles with managed servers start-up in RH EL AS 3.0

    Hello
So, here is a problem: after release of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3.0 with improved
thread management ppl normally expect instant performance boost and lots of other
    nice things :)
The result is that JRocket does not work with this OS release (core dumps) - posted
    to respectfull group.
When using Sun SDK (both bundled with WLS 8.1 sp1 and newer one from Sun (1.4.2_02)
it is not possible to properly start up managed server from the admin console:
somehow the NodeManager does not see the end of managed server output (the last
line it sees is about binding listener to port xxx). The managed server actually
starts up and works, also in the logs on the hard drive $BEA_HOME/weblogic81/common/
.. /NodeManagerLogs/server.log all the events are logged properly.
The fact that node manager can not read logs results in the CPU polling and extremelly
poor web interface (management) performance (node manager process consumes one
of CPUs completely), the managed server is shown as RUNNING, but the operation
is still in progress, so it is not possible to stop/restart it.
May be some nice patch available :) ? Or we have to go back to RH EL 2.1?

You can't declare the same variables/function more than once in a given timeline.  That's what all the errors are telling you.  The two options that Rob identified will work.
What you can do is extend the actions frame for the length of the occupied timeline so that variables/functions you declare in frame 1 are available in all frames along the timeline.  To do this, you have the code in keyframe 1 and go to the end of the timeline and choose the command to Insert Frame.  You should see the timeline between the first frame and the last becomes one large white frame area.
I will often have two layers dedicated to actionscript.  One for the code that lives in frame 1 that gets shared along the timeline's length, and another for the commands that are specific to certain frames only.
If you need need text to appear/type-out in different frames then you just call the function that performs the typing while sending it the text that it needs to type.  If you need to type it into a different textfield, then you could pass that to the typing function as well so that it targets the desired textfield.

  • Trouble with loading songs onto ipod

I was trying to load some of my existing cd's onto my ipod and after a while it wouldnt load anymore songs on. And after several times of trying to get a cd onto my ipod, it deleted all the songs I had already in it off my ipod. So I had to go back and load all the previously existing songs back onto my ipod.
I dont know why it isnt letting me load some of my cd's on. One cd it only loaded 1 song from the 12 that were on the cd.
I dont want to risk trying to load another cd on if its going to erase everything again.
    Anyone know whats going on?

I'm not sure about the whole problem, but for the CD problem, single click to hightlight the first song on the list that comes up when you use the CD. Then, while holding shift, click the last song on the list. If you'be done this correctly, you should see all the songs between the top and bottom hightlighted. Then, click and drag the songs into the library and they should all download. The first will download, then the next when that finishes, and you get the idea, P.S. you do not need to use shift when you drag the songs to the library.
It's happened to me sometimes, too.

  • Trouble with playing songs

I downloaded my library, songs, podcasts, videos etc... but when I hit the "Ipod" button it goes directly to the music library. The screen changes from vertical to horizontal and all I can do is play songs. I cannot get back to the main Ipod screen. Any help???

  • Trouble with prewiew songs

When I try to preview a song, after 6-10 seconds, it stops the prewiew of the song. Is there some way to fix this. I just downloaded the newest version of Itunes today.

Because "500" can only be an estimate. Several things affect an iPod's capacity -- song lengths and the bitrate of songs are the primary variables that determine how large your library is. To a much lesser extent, artwork that you've added to songs, and other things like Notes and Calender entries also consume space.

  • Trouble with storing songs

I recently bought a 2GB ipod nano, and was told it stores 500 songs. But when I update it, it only stores 433. Why??!!

  • Forced to manually manage songs in iTunes

I got a new Macbook a couple days ago and transferred all of my music onto it. I plugged my iPod, which was previously synced up to my old PC, into my new Mac and it comes up in iTunes with the 'Manage songs manually...' option already checked. If I uncheck this it prompts me to restore my iPod and sync the whole library from scratch, which I don't mind, except that I've plugged it in twice now and it's done that both times. I don't mind having to manage my libary manually but I'd really like it if it just did it automatically and didn't do the 'restore/sync entire library' thing every single time. Is there a way to 'pair' my iPod with my new Mac that I'm just not seeing? Any help is appreciated. All software is the latest versions. (Forgive me if this is the wrong forum for this, I wasn't sure if this belonged in the 'iPod' discussion or the 'iTunes' one.)

I also have the same problem.
I have written multiple comments to this post, explaining why I am also having a problem with the new iTunes removing manual control of Contacts and being forced to only use iCloud but apple keeps removing the posts because they don't want to address the issues.

  • I am finding FCPX has trouble with mixed audio sample rates

I am just putting this thread out there to ask if anyone has experienced issues with mixed sample rates in the timeline?  Specifically I have noticed that a timelilne with an audio rate of 48KHz with have troubles with a song at 44.1KHz - this is irrespective of what sort of video codec I am using. It happens to me a lot lot with stills actually.
If I preconvert to 48KHz, I do not have the same issue. Just asking if this has been discussed or mentioned elsewhere so I can figure out if it is just me.
    Thanks

You might want to duplicate the capture preset for DV/NTSC 48k and change the audio to 32k.
    Then try that.
But I'd also change the JVC's audio settings to record in 48 while you're waiting. Should be able to do it... cheap or not.
