Trouble with mic input through POD X3 in Garage Band

We're trying to record through our POD X3 in Garage Band, but when we use it for a mic, the software won't let us control the recording level - the mic registers, but it's too low. When we use a Bass Pod, Garage Band lets us control the recording level. It's OK using the Bass Pod for now but we'd like to move on to the X3 for pretty obvious reasons. What's the deal and what solutions are available for us?

  • OMG Mic input through headphone ..  did you know..!?

By pure chance I put my iPhone headphones into my headphone jack on my new MBP and the volume controls AND microphone work. Apple, taking a non powered mic input, after all these years, never...!!
Brilliant stuff, makes my skype telephone calls much better.
    thought i'd share...!

I was under the impression that Apple had announced this about a year ago or so. At the point of the iPod Touch 3rd generation launch, they had said something about that they would be using this new connector in all their hardware. Perhaps I was mistaken.

  • I'm Just wondering how to make drum beats in garage band using the sounds it comes with? Also how can i use garage band like a drum machine which i can program an entire song part by part????

I'm new to using Garageband and loops with garage band. I just wanted to see if there was a way for me to use the drum sounds provided in garageband to create my own original drum tracks and work with it like a drum machine that i can program an entire song into... any info or tutorials would be a great help.. Thanks!!!

Ah ok, I have a better idea of what you want to do now.
Unfortunately there isn't anything inside GB that can come anywhere close to Acoustica Beatcraft, but there are two tools inside Garageband that can help you do something similar.
First are the built-in keyboards, which will enable you to trigger drum samples with your computer keyboard or mouse.  Go to Window -> Keyboard or Window -> Musical Typing.  Click with your mouse on the Keyboard or press keys on your computer keyboard with Musical Typing, and you will trigger different drum samples for whatever kit you've chosen for that software track.
Next is the Track Editor: in Piano Roll mode, you can create and see midi notes somewhat similar to the view in this screenshot from AB.  On the left side of the Editor, you will see a sideways piano keyboard.  When you assign a drum kit to a software track, each of the piano keys corresponds to a different instrument: hi hat, snare, bass drum, etc---you'll have to play them using the on-screen keyboard or musical typing to see what they correspond to.   In order to add a MIDI note you hold the CMD button and click with the mouse.
So, if you wanted to add a closed hi-hat hit, you would CMD-click on the Track Editor row corresponding to the closed hi-hat piano key, and then you can drag the MIDI note left & right to change the beat it plays on, or resize the note, which will change its duration.
Or, as you've already observed, you can use Musical Typing to play out a pattern on your computer keyboard while recording, and you will see the midi notes appear in real time in the Track Editor.
Hope this helps, feel free to ask more questions.

  • Trouble with Mic

The sound of my microphone isn't coming through the computer. I connected a microphone to my audio line-in port, adjusted the volume, turned the mic on, I get an indication in the System Preferences that it's receiving sound and when I record with GB it captures a sound wave but there's still no sound. Any ideas?

try adjusting your volume levels in system preferences. Click on sound. make sure line in is highlighted if you're using an external mic and then adjust the input volume.

  • Trouble with mic shocking me!

Probably a stupid question, but every time I get close to my Shure SM58 mic I get shocked. I'm running through a 16 channel mixer, then into the line-in on the computer. There is not a ground switch to flip, like on an amp, so I don't know how to get it to stop. It just recently started doing this. Any suggestions?

What is happening when you touch the metal device that is shocking you is you are completing a cicuit and current is going through you. VERY DANGEROUS as mentioned earlier.
A power conditioner is not going to correct faulty wiring/grounding. All a conditioner will do is filter the signal and possibly add spike and surge protection, depending on what you have. Furman products are well respected for this application.
Are either of you plugging into a 2 prong AC wall outlet? If so you need to get the outlet converted to a modern 3 prong outlet asap.
I suspect that you are both having issues with improper grounding. If you want to open up your mixer and look inside where the AC cord connects to the chassis(green/yellow wire), make sure that it is connected and not loose. The other place to check is the wall outlet. Best way to do this is buy an inexpensive $5 outlet checker from radio shack and it will tell you that it is wired correct or not.
I have an old tube amp that had a 2 prong cord and when I plugged it in backwards I'd get shocked when stepping up to a mic. Very bad shock. If you have seen the movie Almost Famous...remember when the band member gets shocked when he steps up to the microphone?...same thing! If I removed the cord from the wall and plugged it in the other way I wouldn't get shocked. I marked one of the prong with a sharpie temporarily. This is not a fix! I ended up rebuilding my amplifier and installing an isolation transformer to make it safe.
    BE CAREFUL.
l0cke....your mixer needs to be converted to 3 prong. If you have not experience with this type of electrical work I recommend taking it to a technician that is competent. Basically what needs to be done is remove your old 2 prong cord and install a new 3 prong cord with the ground(green) wire connecting to the chassis of your mixer. Doing this incorreclty could possibly cause more harm to you or the mixer.

  • Trouble Acquiring Digital Input through 1302- 1180- 1349-PCI 6220- software

    Hi,
I've got an SCXI-1000 chasis, and I'm trying to use an external clock and trigger signal to acquire data from a BNC 2095 board.  I have the 1302 unit to input my external digital signals.  The information feeds through the following units:  1180--> 1349 --> SHC 6868 EPM cable --> PCI 6220 card --> software
I've got my trigger connected to terminals 39(+) and 24(-) in the 1302 unit.  The external clock is connected to terminals 38(+) and 33(-).
Within the DAQ Assistant, I've selected the trigger as PFI 1 and the clock as PFI 0.
I'd like to test the setup, but the test panel in the MAX won't let me select PFI0 or PFI0 as a channel.  I've also got a acquisition VI made, but it doesn't log any data even though there are no errors.  That's why I want to check that I'm getting the trigger/clock signals properly.
Any ideas on what to check or change?
    Thanks,
    Michael

    Hi Michael,
In general, it's not a good idea to call the DAQ Assistant in a loop, since it allocates and frees resources every time it runs. You might want to take a look at the DAQmx examples in the NI Example Finder (Help>>Find Examples). There are located in the Hardware Input and Output\DAQmx directory in the Example Finder. There are several examples, with several timing and triggering configurations.
Here is some information about reference triggers: In NI-DAQmx, the stop trigger is referred to as a reference trigger. The reference trigger establishes the reference point in a set of input samples. It allows you to acquire samples both before and after the trigger is received. The number of pretrigger samples to be acquired is set using the Pretrigger Samples input. The number of posttrigger samples to be acquired is automatically determined by subtracting the number of Pretrigger Samples specified from the number of Samples to Read specified.
Also, take a look at the article I am linking below for information about NI-DAQmx. I hope all of this helps!

  • Trouble with mic on dragon dictate?

i am having problems with my macbook running 10.9.1 using dragon  dictate headset, mic keeps saying not connected.

It's a generic Dragon USB mic that works fine on my Powerbook, so I'm not convinced the problem lies with the mic as such . . .

  • I have downloaded the garage band update version 1 to my macbook with osx but the old version of garage band is what boots up, New features are not present.

I have downloaded the new version of Garageband in an update to my new 2014 macbook with osx but it does not open with new features. It si still the original window for the app. Help. I reviewed the updates menu and it says it was installed.

I have the older 6.0.5. Looks like I'm way behind the newer version, and will need to download the 10.0.2. Will I still be able to access all of my own recordings after downloading the new version?
Yes, the newest GarageBand can open the projects from GarageBand 6.0.5.
GarageBand 10.0.2 is very different from GarageBand 6.0.5, it is more like a light version of Logic. It brings new features like drummers and arpeggiators, but dropped other importaant features like podcasts or the sound effect instrument.  So you will want to keep both versions installed.
When you upgrade to 10.0.2, the installer will move your current 6.0.5 to a subfolder of Applications. On no account delete it, until you are perfectly happy with the new version. I am still starting my projects in GarageBand 6.0.5, set everything up with the easy to use GB '11 interface, and then add the finishing touches, drummers etc., in GarageBand 10.0.
Note: GarageBand 10.0 is free, but it is not a full version; you will have to make an in-app purchase to get lessons, instruments, loops. With GB '11 still installed, this should be free.  See this document:  Expanding GarageBand for Mac (v10.0) content with an in-app purchase

  • Podcasting with skype, ichat and garage band at the same time

    Hi,
so here is my problem I have a podcast show and I record one of my hosts through i chat into garage band and the other is a phone guest through skype.....everything is going through an alesis mixer...the problem is my i chat host cannot hear the skype phone guest....what should I do??

Microphone into mixer. Output of computer into mixer. Skype and iChat routed to computer output. Skype, iChat and Garageband inputs all set to mixer output (either analogue output plugged into computer line in or using the USB connection). Turn monitoring in GB off.
Now everyone should be able to hear everyone, but the Skype and iChat contributors will also hear themselves coming back with a delay, which makes it very difficult to talk.
There is a way round this, but it involves having two separate audio-USB interfaces (which shouldn't be the same model) - they need to be able to handle both ways at the same time, and many don't. I assume that your Alesis is much the same as mine.
Microphone to mixer. Skype output and input to interface A. iChat output and input to interface B. Set GarageBand input to mixer main output as above.
Microphone channel : turn up sends to Aux A and B
Skype channel: turn up send to Aux B only
iChat channel: turn up send to Aux A only
Plug Aux A output to interface A
Plug Aux B output to interface B
You have now set up what is called 'clean feed' in the UK ('mix minus' in the USA). Skype should receive the microphone and iChat but not itself, iChat should receive the microphone and Skype but not itself. Everything should be heard by Garageband.
You may find some difficulty in getting this to work. The main sticking point is going to be that the interfaces have to work in both directions at the same time, and as I said, many don't.
Skype will handle conference calls and this would be a simpler solution!

  • Timing off with Garage Band file

I created a song in Garage Band, and opened it in Logic.
The Logic metronome is off sync with the Garage Band file, even though the tempo is correct.
    Does anyone know why?
    Thanks,
    Avi

That's not the problem. The song is at 126 bpm throughout.
I did a quick test with another Garage Band beat, and everything was OK. I have no idea why the metronome would be off with the other tune I created in Garage Band. Very annoying.

  • Adobe Audition with M-Audio Fast Track Pro mic input

I must be missing a setting somewhere.  I have two mics going into the M-Audio Fast Track Pro (XLR inputs).  Mic 1 works fine but no input from Mic 2 although I have audio coming through my headsets when speaking into Mic 2 - it just doesn't register in Adobe Audition.  I have switched mics and cables and all are fine.  The issue is with Mic 2.
Again, Mic 1 is working fine and Mic 2 is picking up audio and feeding to my headphones but not to Adobe Audition.  I have all the latest drivers installed.
I am on a Win7 (32bit) system.  Microphones are Shure PG-42's (phantom powered condenser microphones).
I contacted M-Audio support and phone-verified that all Fast Track Pro settings were proper.  Seems to be a setting or driver issue in Audition.  I've spent hours trouble-shooting to no avail.  In the meantime, I'm using a Y-splitter running both mics into Mic Input 1 on the Fast Track Pro which works fine but I really need seperate control over each microphone.  I have interviews coming up soon and would like to find a resolution quickly.  Can anyone help?  Thanks!

Archie!  Good stuff!  I'm almost there...
I've got my Adobe Audition set up with the settings you gave me - everything is armed and good-to-go... but then...
When I hit record Tracks one and two look like they're recording but there is no level (no audio) going into the tracks.
If I go back to the Edit view and try to record the entire fills with green as if I'm filling it 100% with sound.  This has never happened before.
I suspect I've got something hosed-up in my "Audio Hardware Setup" under the Edit section.
My selections for Audio Driver Setup are:
    1)  M-Audio USB ASIO
    2)  ASIOforALLv2
    3)  Audition 3.0 Windows Sound
If you could give me some direction as to the settings in "Audio Harware Setup" I feel I've almost got it.
    Thanks!

  • Unwanted Background noise through Mic Input

Hey Guys, I'm new here maybe someone can help me with my problem.
I have the X-Fi Xtreme Music sound card which I just purchased in the last couple of weeks, operating on Windows XP Home, Intel Duo-Core-whatsit. The PC is also well-powerful enough to handle the sound card.
I have my microphone plugged straight into the mic jack in the soundcard. The mic is a Shure PG58, the cable came with the mic and they're both brand new. I'm running Sonar Producer Edition to record my music, the computer, software, mic and soundcard are all new, bought specifically for the purpose of recording a project.
OK. I have this really bad background hiss going through my mic channel. The noise is there whether the mic is switched on or off, I even unplugged the mic from the cable and it was still there. I removed both my USB midi cable and also a network cable I had plugged in the back which wasn't being used, I thought that maybe there was some interference from the cables. Nothing changed, the hiss is still there as long as mic input is enabled. The only way I can get rid of it is either muting the mic channel or lowering the mic faders in the mixer console, but this means that the input signal also goes way down and then I'm unable to record anything because the levels are too low. So basically, if I have the mic levels high enough to record, the hiss is very obvious.
I listened very carefully to the sound of the hiss and found out that there's not only a constant hiss, but also a kind of 'pulsing' scratchy noise too, which I have discovered is in sync with the blink of my cursor. As it happens, there is also very faint extra hiss and noise when I move my mouse/cursor around the screen, and also when I drag to enlarge of minimize a window, I get little noises which reflect this movement. I also get faint pops and whirring noises when the computer is doing something like opening a program or closing one, also when I shut down the computer or start it up, it's like the inner workings of the computer are being amplified greatly and then fed back through my mic channel. It doesn't happen through any other channel other than the mic, for instance if I change the input from mic to line, it stops. It's only when I have mic input enabled.
So my problem is that if I have the mic up enough to record anything I get all this background hiss and this noise also gets recorded to my audio track in my music project. In quiet moments on the track you can also clearly hear this noise which is totally unnacceptable. I have tried changing everything I can within the console settings but with no change to this hiss, as long as the mic input is of any strength, the hiss is there. Lastly, I initially thought that it might be the adaptor I am using to change the mic plug down from large to small (for the soundcard) but after I went and got another adaptor nothing had changed with the hiss, so it's not the plug either.
Has anyone else had this problem? I'm sure the answer may be very simple, but I'm completely frustrated and can't work out what's causing it. It just shouldn't be happening. Is it a setting somewhere?
If anyone knows what might be the cause of this, please help me out. I would really appreciate it as I want to move on past this issue and continue with my project.
    Taurus

Hi HeadSty, I'll share with you what happened to me after I posted here about that interference problem I had with my Creative X-Fi soundcard, it might help you.
After numerous emails sent to Creative Support and getting no help except for them to advise me to uninstall and then reinstall all the software (which is obviously not the problem, the problem is one of physical interference from somewhere) I finally got some help from the Cakewalk forums I belong to. Someone there told me that the issue is often one that the soundcard itself is too close to the rest of the computer, ie; it's inside the computer and it's often best if it's an external unit, also someone else there told me that it could be due to the soundcard sharing an IRQ resource with the graphics card, which sure enough, when I checked, it was. I was about to take my PC back to the place where I got the card installed to begin with and have them move the card to another slot, I was told that this may solve the IRQ-sharing issue, and if you feel like you want to try this it may be worth a shot.
In my case, things sort of took a turn in another direction due to the total lack of help from Creative's sales department. I was totally unhappy with the jacks on the X-Fi card, I needed something besides what was at the back of my PC, I needed something close to hand for both mics and headphones. I had tried to find the Creative Upgrade Console everywhere and had no luck at all. I emailed Creative sales and asked them where I could buy one, I originally had wanted it included with the card as Elite Pro and the dealer told me it wasn't available from his supplier so I thought I could find it somewhere else after I got the card installed (wrong). When I asked Creative Sales where I could buy one (I'm in Melbourne, Australia) they just sent me an outdated list of retailers, all of which told me they no longer stocked Creative products, only the MP3 players. I went everywhere to find that console and couldn't find it. I finally found one wholesale dealer that had only one Upgrade console left, and they wanted nearly $400AUS for it. I had already paid $179AUS for the card. I checked around and found that I could get a Tascam US-122L for just over $300AUS, it has a soundcard built into it, jacks, a phantom power switch for condenser mics, the lot, and zero latency. It just plugs into the USB of my PC. I bought that and have had absolutely no problems with it, it's a professional unit and I was able to get back into creating my music immediately with excellent results. Better than the Creative card could ever offer.
Listen, try moving the card to another slot and see if that helps, providing that you check and see if the card is sharing an IRQ with your graphics card, or with anything else. I was told that this can often be one of the causes of sound interference. But to be honest, I am so happy with the Tascam unit, I would tell you that if you're not happy with the Creative card and like me, you want to have all the relevant jacks right in front of you and you haven't already got the Soundblaster console, then consider getting the Tascam or something similar, which has the actual soundcard outside the PC. Because the Tascam has phantom power for condenser mics (the Creative card didn't have that), I now don't have to settle for the thick sound I was getting from the mic I had already, I can now go out and get a high quality studio mic which needs phantom power to run and just plug it into the Tascam.
I was told by several of the pros on the Cakewalk site that cards such as the Creative one aren't really up to scratch and that if you're really serious about your music then you really need to have a card that sits outside the PC (though one or two people told me that they did fine with onboard sound cards). As I needed the console anyway, when I found that the Tascam unit was actually cheaper than the upgrade console and had everything I needed with phantom power to boot, there really was no choice for me to make. Like I said, I'm totally happy with the Tascam US-122L and only use the Creative card now for watching DVD's or listening to MP3's. The surround sound and crystaliser are both really good functions, but for professional music creation you can do a lot better if you need the extras like mic and headphone jacks etc. The conclusion I came to after all the screwing around I had to go through was that even though Creative tout their soundcards as being suitable for professional music creation they are more suited to gaming and music listening.
    Hope that helps a bit.

You called it: your links to the SpryAssets are linking to your hard drive, not to the files within the folder on the server.
    Correct these links:
    <script src="file:///C:/Users/work/Desktop/Sites/SpryAssets/SpryTabbedPanels.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
    <link href="file:///C:/Users/work/Desktop/Sites/SpryAssets/SpryTabbedPanels.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />

    Greetings Experts,
I'm having trouble with calling an RFC with table input.
