Trouble with Migration: two identities with different "powers"

I am migrating from an old PowerBookG4 to a MacBook. The PowerBook is failing, so I couldn't insert and install the migration disc, as it recommends because it just quits when i try to install it, however Migration is on the computer, and seems to be the same version. (I crashed last year, and may have been installed then by the guy who repaired it) Anyhow, I made the mistake of starting the migration via. airport, realized my mistake and force quit. The MacBook then had me set up a new identity, which I did... oops? Then, I connected the Ethernet cable, and migrated again. There are now two "identities". One is running all the old stuff from my old computer. and then there's the new identity. One has all the new features, like the handy-dandy new scroll pad... and the old one doesn't. However, the old one can open any Excel file, and the new one can't.... WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON? I should mention, I also installed a new version of Office:Mac. Shall I throw them both out and start all over again? Is that possible? I have no problem doing that if it's possible.

Since installing the new OS i am having troubles with different appliction icons showing up on my main page twice (upper left corner), and not allowng me to select certain ones (app store specifically). Anyone else having this issue?

Help - anyone else out there having trouble with the new OS system on their ipad 2? I am not getting mutliple copies of several apps ont he main page. They are "collecting: in a pike int he upper left corner and the original application icon is no lobger working. I have tried a hard sync, and that didn't help.

It should only be able to have one copy of an app on the iPad. Have you tried a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
Do all the apps work ? In the past a few people have taken a screen shot of their iPad screen and that has then become their background picture - so some of the 'app's may actually be on your wallpaper picture and not actual apps. Have you tried changing the wallpaper to see if that makes any difference ?

Having trouble with different websites wanting different versions of flashplayer

hulu.com wants one version of flash player and CBS wants another so i downloaded the achive 9 but it is not working on CBS. i do not know what to do i did see a page on adope about switching but cant find i tnow. [email address removed]

There can be player detection issues on web site especially when we move from say version 10 to version 11. This has happened before and we try to work closely with these sites to make sure they fix their detection. Would you let me know what version of Flash Player you have installed on what OS and browser you see these problems. I'll check it out and contact the site if I can reproduce.

Small office- trouble with different Acrobat versions

I work in a small office where we use Adobe Acrobat to create pdf docs on 5 computers. On these 5 desktops, we are using 4 different versions of Acrobat. When users convert excel documents to pdf, the results are different depending on which version of Acrobat is used. Headers and footers cause the most headaches. Is it possible to put Acrobat on our network, so we all use the same version? Alternatively, would upgrading everyone to the current version (9.0 Pro) solve the problem? Last resort... I don't want to buy everyone a full new version as the cost is prohibitive. Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions.

A lot depends on the options that have been selected and also the job.options file that is used. If you provide some information about the job.options and the versions used, it might help. There are probably different setup features in Excel also that may be the issue. Be sure you are really comparing apples and apples. Are the save versions of Excel used on all of the machines? Are some using the print feature and others PDF Maker? There are so many variations that could cause the different results. Generally, they should be the same as what you would see in the print preview.
One thing to check is that all the versions have been updated. Early versions often have bugs that cause issues. The updates can be downloaded at Adobe.com under downloads>updates.
As far as putting Acrobat on your intranet, I understand your desire. However, as I read the EULA this would be a violation of the license, particularly since you are talking about different versions.

Why did I wind up with two identities after transfer of files by Migration Assistant? How can I fix that?

At first I could not find my files after Migration Assistant completed a 45 hours transfer of files from my Macbook to my new iMac. Then I realized that I had two identities on my new iMac. What is the best way to correct this? Do I have to start over and wait another 2 days for the migration?

I originally wanted to reinstall my info from the MacBook using Time Machine. The iMac would not recognize the backups on my external hard drive.
I decided to use Migration Assistant to move from my MacBook to my new iMac. After migration I tried to backup (bu) with Time Machine using the external disk I used for the MacBook. The Time Machine said the bu (over 450 Gb) was too large for the disk. I found this odd. There seemed to be a much higher amount of data on my iMac than existed on my MacBook. I bought a new 2Tb external. I originally hooked it up to my Airport Extreme with a USB cable. Time Machine said the bu would take over 36 hours. This seemed rediculous. I hooked up through USB directly to the iMac. It said the bu would take over 18 hours. Still rediculous.
After looking through things I discovered that Migration Assistant actually double copied all the data from my MacBook to my iMac. There were two copies of every folder. I deleted all the copies. Now I am trying to deal with my sons old ID and getting Time machine to work properly. It appears there were some disk permission issues. That my also relate to my sons ID. I cannot find his ID anywhere on the iMac but App Store keeps asking my to log on using his ID.

Welcome to the Apple community.
iTunes and iCloud and different accounts, you will need to delete both accounts from your device before adding the new details in their place.
For iCloud go to settings > iCloud, scroll down and hit the delete button. You can then sign back in using your correct details. For iTunes go to settings >store, tap your account ID and then sign out, you can then sign back in using your correct Apple ID.

Connect the device to iTunes and restore from the most current backup.
If the issue continues, restore as new.

In iChat 4 you can have more than one AIM Valid name logged in at once.
AIM valid = AIM, @mac.com or a MobileMe name.
What you are then stuck with is that iChat is linked to one Buddy Picture and The one Mac User Account's Address Book which may or may not have Full Names, emails details, or a Nickname in iChat 4 linked to the Screen Names.
Whilst it does let you both log in whilst using one Mac User Account there are drawbacks about who uses the keyboard and reading meesages from the other persons Buddies.

I have two Iphones with different email addresses sharing one Apple ID. Will that cause problems with using messaging and FaceTime?

I have two Iphones 5 with different email addresses sharing one Apple ID account.Both are using IOS 8.
I would like to set up a new Apple Id for one of the phones and remove it from the old account.
If I do that, can I move all of the purchased apps and songs to the new Apple account?
Also, will sharing one Apple ID account with two devices cause problems with using messaging and FaceTime?

Sharing an iCloud account between two devices can be done without causing issues with iMessage and FaceTime, just go into Settings for each of these functions and designate separate points of contact (i.e. phone number only, or phone number and unique email address). While that works, you'll then face the problem where a phone call to one iPhone will ring both if on the same Wi-Fi network -- but again, that can be avoided by changing each phone's settings.
Rather than do all that, don't fight it -- use separate IDs for iCloud. You can still use a common ID for iTunes purchases (the ID for purchases and iCloud do not have to be the same) or you can use Family Sharing to share purchases from a primary Apple account.

IMessage trouble with two iPhones and one Apple ID

Hi,
I'm having trouble with iMessage after updating both of my iPhones to iOS 6 and not being able to use iMessage with one of the phones.
Some background:
-I have two iPhones, one on AT&T in the U.S., and one on NTT DoCoMo in Japan, both with separate phone numbers, using the same Apple ID.
-The AT&T iPhone is a 4, the NTT is an unlocked 4S.
On my 4 (AT&T), on iMessage, I have the option to send/receive as my U.S. phone number and my Apple ID. Works just like before updating.
On my 4S (NTT), on iMessage, before I updated, I was able to send/receive using my Japanese number and Apple ID. After updating, I have the option to send/receive using my U.S. number and Apple ID. My Japanese number is greyed out and I cannot select it. When I turn on iMessage, it says "Waiting for activation..." and does not do anything. Turning iMessage off and on, some times I get an error message staying that activation cannot be completed.
I have rebooted the phone multiple times, turned on/off iMessage and FaceTime, turned the Set Date & Time Automatically option on/off, and reset Network settings several times. Nothing works; iMessage will not activate on my NTT 4S. Please help!

Finally resolved this issue after months of off and on troubleshooting.
I have no idea exactly which steps "fixed" the issue, but here's what I did. None of the basic troubleshooting steps that are on here worked for me, and this is including restoring both phones in iTunes as a "last resort" step that two Apple technical service representatives suggested.
I found a post on here from user "tungddao" who suggested:
"Turn on iMessage then make a phone call to : 011+445773142076
With Facetime & Siri: 011+447786205094"
I called both numbers with my NTT 4S, and both numbers hung up right away. I also texted both numbers, and the FaceTime one went through, while the iMessage number did not. I then checked my SMS blocking settings with NTT. There were no blocks, but I reset the settings to "unblock all" anyway.
I was able to activate iMessage and FaceTime with my Apple ID and my NTT phone number. Halfway there.
I then turned on my ATT 4, and while I could send/receive using my Apple ID and NTT phone number, the ATT number was greyed out, which was the opposite of what had happened before, when I could use the ATT number, but not the NTT one. On my NTT 4S, I could select my ATT number, but it was stuck on "verifying" for days, and I knew it wouldn't go through.
So, I signed out of my Apple ID on iMessage and FaceTime on my ATT 4, and turned both services off. I turned on data roaming, and turned off WiFi. *This step was key to activating both services, as they would not activate over WiFi for some reason.
I turned on iMessage and FaceTime without signing in to my Apple ID just yet. They both activated successfully, and then I signed into my Apple ID on both services, and from then on, I can use both numbers and my Apple ID on both phones! Finally!
These are my current options:
Phone 1 (4S on NTT): Phone 1's #, Phone 2's #, Apple ID
Phone 2 (4 on ATT, roaming here in Japan on Softbank): Phone 2's #, Phone 1's #, Apple ID
Hope this helps someone out there, as this issue was real frustrating for me.

What do you mean by "apple ID"? There's an ID you can use at the iTunes store to buy songs, apps, etc. there's an ID you can use for your iCloud account - the two can be different or the same. So which service are you referring to when you talk about an apple ID?

Apple has no provisions for this. You cannot merge multiple Apple ID's into one ID. Content is always tied to the Apple ID that was used to purchase it.
