Trouble with Plantronics Headset on my G5

I use a Plantronics USB headset/mic for online racing, and almost from the time I've gotten it (as a gift) when I use Teamspeex, it emits a loud HUM whenever I push to talk. Naturally, this isn't good. It also started acting up in iChat as well. Now, when I plugged it in last night, I got a message on the screen saying "USB Alert, the device you plugged in is drawing too much current, the port will be disabled". So, I guess what I'm asking is, is this thing shot? I'm running 10.3.9 on a dual 2.0ghz G5 tower, no mods or anything like that, very plain vanilla.
I've tried plugging it into every other USB port I have, and no dice. Although, once in a GREAT while it will work with no troubles. Any ideas?

Get a powered USB hub and try again when the PowerMac G5 is reset and accepting it.

  • Plantronics headset disconnects after around 30 seconds

I am having a problem with Plantronics headsets, the model is plantronics - w01a, and the system version that we are using is CUCM version 7.1.3.10000-11.
I am connecting the headsets to a Cisco 7961 with the following phone load SCCP41.8-5-2SR1S.
The problem is that the headset disconnects from the base station after about 30 seconds.
I have contacted Plantronics, and they confirmed that the headset is working properly.
At the office i have also a UC500 system, on which the headset was giving the same behaviour, but after enabling the hook flash timer the headset did not disconnect again.
But on the CUCM i am still with the same problem.
    Any suggestions would be apreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi Glenn,
    Good stuff
I see part of the problem here....the APC-40 is not supported with
    the 7961 as shown here;
    Installation Instructions for the APC-40
    Supported phones are the 7942G, 7945G, 7962G, 7965G, 7975G.
    http://www.plantronics.com/us/support/kb/detail.jsp?vfurl=/articles/en_US/Product_Information/RN18651&retURL=%2Fapex%2FknowledgeSearch&region=us&p=&c=All&k=EHS%2BCable%2BAPC-40&t=All&lang=&popup=false&c=All
You need a model where you can enable the HHC feature in CUCM which is not available
    with the 7941/7961;
    Enabling Wireless Headset Hookswitch Control
Access the server administrator with a browser.  Select Device>Phone through the drop down menus.
Click "Find" with no selection criteria to obtain a list of all phones
Open the desired phone.  Scroll down to "Wireless Headset Hookswitch Control"  Set to "Enabled"
Click "Apply".  Wait for the dialog box to appear, then reset the phone by clicking the reset button.
So you will need to connect the Savi without the use of the APC-40 and you should
be good to go. You just won't be able to answer calls directly from the headset.
    Cheers!
    Rob

  • Error Code -36 with GarageBand '08 v4.1(236) using Plantronics headset

Following the upgrade from Leopard 10.5 to 10.5.1, we are now getting Error Code -36 Core Audio errors when using the Plantronics DSP-500 headset on GarageBand '08 v4.1 (236). The same error also appears when using a Plantronics DSP-100 headset. Using iMac's built-in audio works fine. Usage of the Plantronics headset worked fine prior to upgrading Leopard to v10.5.1. We have applied the iLife 8.1.1 and GarageBand 4.1 updates. The Error Code pops up during recording. Any ideas on what we should do to get the Plantronics DSP-500 headset to work again with GarageBand??

  • Trouble Pairing Pearl 8100 with Plantronics 510 handsfree

HELP!!!  I have a plantronics 510 handsfree set and Pearl 8100.  When searching for a device with the blackberry, it does not pick up the headset.  Ive tried turning the headset on while its searching as well as just being on.
A plantronic 510 is an 'approved' compatible handsfree as per below link:
    http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=KB04009&sliceId=SAL_Pub...
Can anyone advise where Im going wrong?  Ive used this headset before with another phone and it paired no prob.  Just as the Blackberry has paired with my other phone.  I do not use both at the same time, Im transferring to the blackberry.
    HELP!!!
    Shirlzz
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi Shirlzz,
There are a few things that may be preventing the handsfree from pairing with the blackberry:
Bluetooth device is not put into "pairing mode" before attempting to connect to the blackberry. To put the Plantronics 510 into pairing mode, hold down the "call control" and up buttons simultaneously. Please see the user guide for more detailed instructions. Once in pairing mode, attempt to add the headset via the blackberry.
IT Policy. If using the blackberry on a Blackberry Enterprise Server, ensure that the IT policy that has been set by the BES administrator allows for bluetooth connectivity.
The blackberry could be connected to another handset/headset or PC. You will need to drop the connection to any of these devices before connecting the Plantronics headset.
Device Malfunction? Try turning the bluetooth off, then do a hard reset on the blackberry (Leave device ON, remove the battery & reinsert battery
Let me know how you go

  • Has anyone had trouble with their bluetooth headset? (even after pairing)

Has anyone had trouble with their bluetooth headset? I have a Motorola H700 that pairs with the iphone but takes about 10 seconds after i hit send for the connection between the phone and the headset to be established. I also get allot of static when the headset is more than 3 feet away from the phone. (this headset worked perfectly @ about 40' with a Motorola Razr I had)

  • Speakable Items won't work with my headset

    Here's the deal:
When I am using the internal microphone with Speakable Items, everything works fine. (I have to lean in a bit, obviously.) But no matter what I do, my computer won't understand commands spoken through my bluetooth headset. My OS is up-to-date (10.4.10).
The headset (Plantronics Voyager 510) pairs fine with my computer, an iMac G5, and appears to work perfectly well as an input device: the readout in the Sound preference pane shows that the computer can hear my voice through it. In fact, when I go to the "Speakable Items" tab in the Speech preference pane, choose the headset (which appears as "PLT 510"), and attempt to calibrate it, the blue, green, and red readout in the Microphone Calibration window also registers my voice.
But no matter where I set the slider, no matter where I am in relation to the headset microphone, and no matter at what volume or speed I speak, the computer will not recognize commands. It can hear my voice — which I keep in the green zone — but won't understand it.
It's not just in the calibration window: it also won't work when trying to use Speakable Items in, say, the Finder. I've tried changing the input volume for the headset in the Sound preferences, having my room totally silent (including shutting off the air conditioner), calibrating with Speakable Items set to "on" and "off," and weeping and begging. I even rebooted. Nada.
Again, Speakable Items works fine when I am using the internal microphone. The one other difference I found in their behaviors is that, with the calibration slider set to low and the room silent, the internal microphone is steady at the second green bar; but the headset under the same conditions is steady at the sixth bar. In fact, in the case of the headset, moving the slider has no effect at all: it always rests on the sixth bar.
(In other news, the headset won't pair with my iBook G3 [Dual-USB] using the D-Link DBT-120 [Rev. B3]. But I guess that's a different issue altogether.)
Googling, I see plenty of happy Mac users who own my model of headset, but I can't find this problem addressed anywhere. I've looked through the forums here as well.
Thanks for reading! Can anyone help?

Sorry for the slow reply, Philip!
First of all, Macs do not yet interact in stereo with Bluetooth headsets, though according to rumour this will be available in Leopard (along with everything else).
Have you tried using the Skype Test Call feature? This is one of the easiest ways of listening back to what you record. Come to that, does it record into one of the more standard sound apps (e.g. Garage Band, Audacity, SndSampler)?
My wife has a Plantronics 590 Bluetooth headset, but when it is interacting directly via the Mac's Bluetooth she can only get the microphone to work with Skype and the Finder. And iTunes outputs only the left-hand channel, evenly split between the two channels, and the quality is horrible. If she wants to use it for any other purpose she has to connect it via the Bluetooth 3.5 mm jack adapter plugged into the headphone socket, which cuts out the headset mike as well as the internal speakers.
Though VoiceOver does work through her headset, without using the adapter, the quality is awful and VoiceOver keeps crashing. She can, however, use it for Speakable Items, though she often has to repeat herself. The calibration had to be set very high — 100% mostly.
Have you gone through the full calibration sequence, including getting all the test commands to flash?
    Keep us posted!

  • 3GS doesn't work correctly with Bluetooth headset?

Why won't my husband's 3GS work correctly with Bluetooth headset? I have a 4S, and I bought a Plantronics 903  Bluetooth headset, and it plays music great out of headset, but when I tried to do that with my husband's 3GS, only one earpiece plays?

It is not supposed to fit, and murray65 is correct - Apple never made a dual dock for the iPhone 3G, and in fact, early this year they discontinued the Apple Bluetooth Headset. You can either just use the travel cable to charge both devices, or you can use a Dremel (or carton knife, etc.) to widen the opening in the dock for the iPhone to accommodate the slightly larger and more rounded iPhone 3GS. See the last few posts in this thread for some links to pics of the process.

  • Had trouble with iPhone 2.0 upgrade?  CHECK YOUR FILESYSTEM!!

I can't find my original post (deleted?), but when I tried to do the first 2.0 iPhone upgrade the day it came out (BIG MISTAKE), I had a lot of trouble. Thanks to an Apple support person who was kind enough to call me, I deleted a file per his suggestion, which made the backup finish to completion and I was happy.
    Or so I thought...
Now, several weeks later, I (or rather our IT guy) has discovered that some of my iPhone backup files were corrupted, which has made a mess out of my Macbook Pro (10.4.11)'s file system. It was not fixable with Disk Utility (in the Utilities Folder of the Application Folder) and only partially fixable with Disk Warrior. Nothing appears to be wrong with the hardware (except that my video port was malfunctioning although that problem had started way before the upgrade.)
If you had trouble with the iPhone 2.0 upgrade, I strongly recommend you verify the integrity of your Mac Filesystem. If there's something wrong, you may need expert help in repairing your file system.

    Wingstat,
It should still work fine. I have the original iPhone and Apple BT Headset purchased about a year ago. I upgraded to the new 2.0 software 2 weeks ago. BT Headset works fine.
There has always been the occasional incident when I couldn't get the 2 to pair. This was always solved by un-pairing then re-pairing the two manually. To do this:
    With your BT Headset:
Press and hold the headset's button until you here the 4, rapid descending tones
    Your headset is now off.
    On iPhone:
Open SETTINGS, then GENERAL, then BLUETOOTH
Under DEVICES, tap on the iPhone Bluetooth Headset link and select UNPAIR.
Note: If your headset doesn't show up here... keep going...
Tap on the DEVICES link again to put iPhone in DISCOVERABLE MODE
    Back to your Headset:
Click and hold the button again... when you hear 4 ascending tones, keep holding
Keep holding the button until you hear 5 rapid, short beeps
Release the button: you're in DISCOVERABLE MODE here too.
    Back to your iPhone:
You should see the Headset appear on your DEVICES list.
It should pop up and ask for Pairing Code
    Enter 0000 on the iPhone.
You should be all paired up for good now.

  • Trouble with Bluetooth Devices

I have a MacBook Pro 13" from late-2011.  Recently I have decided to use Bluetooth headsets instead of wired earbuds because I tend to forget they are in my ears and when I get up, they are yanked out of my ears, hurting me and potentially pulling my notebook off of something.  I had an LG Tone before getting my current Motorola S11-FLEX HD headset.  I switched because of the problems I have been having with Bluetooth but switching has not solved the issue.
My biggest problem with my Bluetooth headsets is that the audio stutters and then de-syncs with any video.  The de-sync can be as bad as a full second.  I'll see the video's actions before I hear them.  The de-sync also affects the responsiveness of controls.  After I give a command, the audio will continue to play for however long the de-sync is before the command is performed.  It's like it's making up for the lost time.  The only solution I have come across is turning off the device, then turning it back on but that only works some of the time.  Usually, I have to turn it off and then on again two or three times before the de-syncing issue disappears.  I have no idea the cause as my LG Tone works to specifications with devices that belong to other people.  I have found that moving my head in a certain direction will cause the de-sync.  Sometimes, it's leaning back; other times, it's tilting my head.  It's as if the Bluetooth field is planar and I'm jumping out of the plane.
Another issue is the distance I can be from my device.  My Bluetooth headsets boasts being able to function perfectly as far as 30 feet for one headset but moving even 5 feet will cause the previously mentioned de-syncing if the audio is playing.  If I pause the audio, I can move about 10 feet.  After I move 10 feet, when I press play, the de-sync appears.  It renders the function of being wireless to being useless.  I wanted to Bluetooth so I didn't have to pause, take off my device, do what I need to do, and before coming back, putting on the device, and resuming play, hoping that nothing has gone wrong to cause a de-syncing issue.
A third issue I have is that sometimes, while listening to some audio of some kind, another program will make a noise causing the audio to cut out.  My notebook or the web browser is not aware that audio is no longer playing.  It's as if the new program has muted the original audio.  The only cure: turning off the device and turning it on again and hoping it's working.
The last issue I can think of is that when I turn my notebook off for any reason, all Bluetooth devices are forgotten causing me to go through the hassle of repairing the devices again but many times, the repairing process fails and despite being on and not paired to anything else, my notebook is unable to pair unless I turn both the device off and my notebook's Bluetooth off before turning both back on.
Has anyone run into issues like this? If so, does anyone have any recommendations on how to correct the problem? The problem is on my notebook side as the devices work fine with other products.  The LG Tone could be used across the house when it was attached to my father's Kindle Fire and when attached to my iPhone 5, I could walk 20 feet with doors and concrete between me and the device before any issues began (both devices had trouble with my iPhone but pausing usually fixes the issue so I don't care).  Please, I need some advice and help.

    Some details missing.
I have a Pioneer DEH-P7000BT. On telephone settings, everything OK.
When I want to sync to my Audio Bluetooth, I hear the sound in slow motion :-)
I have to delete the Bluetooth device on the radio, and re-syncing on Audio Devices and everything fine.
    Same thing all the time.
When I had iOS 3.1.3 on my iPhone 3G, everything was OK.
I can't find Firmware Update for my radio.

  • Iphone 3g pairs, but won't connect to 520 plantronics headset via bluetooth

I have a 520 plantronics headset, it pairs fine with both my MBP and my iPhone. With the MBP, it connects fine and can be used as expected.
It will not, however, connect to the iphone (but pairs ok). I have search the web, but I am just guessing. Does anyone know how to make it work?
Although the 520 can pair/connect to 2 devices (MBP and iphone), my primary interest is in using it with the iphone).
    Thanks

  • Pairing trouble with Storm and Plantronics Voyager 520 bluetooth.

The original BB Storm that I got back in January paired and work perfectly with my bluetooth headset.  I recently lost my phone and received a brand new BB Storm that I am trying to pair my BT headset with.  The BT has the "quickpair" technology but I cannot get them to connect.  Everytime I go onto my phone to search for any devices the search comes up with nothing.  Not sure why it would work so well with my old phone but not do anything with this brand new one.  Please advise.

HI and Welcome to the Forums!
This is the KB that discusses generic pairing:
KB03391 Pairing BlackBerry devices with Bluetooth enabled devices
If I had to guess, I'd say that your headset is not in pairing mode while the Storm is looking for it. I suggest checking the manual for the headset to be certain that it is in pairing mode...I know that every time I have to pair my Plantronics headset I have to refer to the Plantronics manual for how to do that. I'd also suggest skipping the "quickpair" thing and doing it manually.
    Good luck!
