Trouble with playback when recording with DVD SP

Happy New Year everybody
Got a little problem... Never happened to me before using iDVD. I finalized and burned a project with DVD SP but when introducing the burned DVD in a DVD player or PC it doesn´t play. Only in my system where I burned it. I tried to make an image of the master DVD and reburn it using the OS application where I can choose a burning speed. Believing that maybe burning at 4x would solve the problem but still the same. Has somebody a hint about this please?

There are three methods of optical disc delivery:
1. DVD. Standard definition only. However, some DVD players will upscale the standard definition content on output via HDMI or component jacks for playback on HDTVs. If you have HD content and want to deliver on DVD, use one of Compressor's DVD presets to downscale.
2. HD DVD (obsolete). The few HD DVD players ever made will playback regular DVDs and HD DVDs.
3. Blu-ray. Blu-ray players can playback Blu-ray discs in HD as well as regular DVD.

Problems with playback when burning to DVD or saving as MPEG

My movie looks fine when viewed through Adobe Premiere Elements 9 but then when I burn it to DVD or save as an MPEG the footage appears jumpy. I have tried deinterlacing and this improves it but doesn't fix it. Any suggestions on what I can do to help with this.

Is the jumpy uniform or mostly at point of major motion in the content?
Have you tried applying just Field Options/Reverse Field Dominance? If so, any better, worse, same as if you had just selected Always Deinterlace?
1. Is you source media interlaced or progressive video? If interlaced, is Fields = Upper Field First or Lower Field First?
2. When you save an "MPEG" file, what are you setting for Field Order (See Advanced Button/Video Tab)?
Note DVD-VIDEO on DVD disc is standardized as interlaced with Field Order = Lower Field First.
3. Is jumpy = flicker, double looking images, or just plain jumpy?

Importing to iMovie: How do I use an external usb mic when recording with the built-in FaceTime HD Camera?

Hello all
I'm scheduled to work with a friend this week; I'm going to help him make a simple audition DVD. I promised him I had the necessary equipment and such.
I was importing from the webcam using iMovie. If I can't use my external mic to record for the video, there is more involved in the editing process. I was hoping to record the video and audio into one package. I'm using the built-in FaceTime webcam on my macbook pro and a ZoomH1 on usb.
I've tried changing the audio in system preferences: input to H1. This works when recording with audacity or anything else. I even changed the input on FaceTime to H1. There aren't any preferences I can find in iMovie to change the input for importing video directly from the webcam.
How do I change the audio input for direct import on iMovie?
OR
Is there something else I can do to have HD video and HQ audio captured in one video file on my macbook pro?
I suppose I can record the video and audio separately but that is usually much more involved. This is why I got this usb microphone lol.

I just found using QuickTime Player to record a movie works great. I can easily change the audio input. iMovie is silly. lol

My recorded footage without sound will not play, but will when recorded with sound, any ideas?

I have recorded alot of footage on a digital Harinezumi 3 camera and have run into a problem in post production.
Some of the footage is recorded with sound, and plays fine. However, with most of the footage, i chose to turn the recording of sound off. These files without sound will not play in any player, even when Perian is installed.
These are the specs of the video I have been able to find out.
File type: .AVI
Video Stream: JPEG
This is all I can find out, so I am thinking it is an M-JPEG file rendered as an AVI file. VLC player says it can not play the video or audio format 'undf', whatever that means. Another player says it needs a .moov encoder, but I do not see how this is possible. I have also tried attaching audio to it via Logic 9 with no success.
I am at a loss, and I really need this footage for a project. Any ideas?

Accessed the file at dropbox. Played the DropBox "display" file in scripted player, played the same resource file using the Safari plug-in, and then downloaded the resource file using the QT 7 Pro "Open URL" option only to learn that this file was an H.264 transcode and not your original file. Used the DropBox download option to download the original Motion JPEG file in AVI file container. File plays as is in both QT X v10.2 and QT 7 v7.6.6 players under Mountain Lion v10.8.4 on my system.
Motion JPEG is one of the "lagacy" codec components turned off under Lion and which remains turned off under Mountain Lion. However, as I understand it, Motion JPEG files are supposed to be passively supported (playback supported) under these systems but requires the codec to be turned back on if you wish to export files using this codec. I turned both Motion JPEG and Motion PNG codecs back on quite a while back and have Perian installed which, as you can see, supplied the OpenDML version of the Motion JPEG codec component to actually play your file on my system. Unfortunately, since QT uses a LIFO codec component list generation strategy, I would have to remove Perian to test whether or not the system configured Motion JPEG component would then become the active decoder. (Did this a year or two ago but not willing to do so again at this time.)
Suffice it to say, the file should play in QT on your Mountain Lion system assuming the correct version of Perian is installed, it is actually active, and you have no conflicting software or hardware installed on your system. Have posted an MOV file containing your Motion JPEG video data in case you want to see if it will play correctly on your system.

Cant hear song playback while recording with external USB Interface Mic in Garageband

There must be something wrong with my settings in Gargaeband/Mac Sound Settings.
I have Garageband 9 (V5.1) running a song I have already recorded using a USB keyboard.
I want to record using my external mic and my USB Audio Interface, so
I select New Track> Real Instrument
I plug in my Yamaha Audiogram 3 USB AUdio Interface and I get a pop up stating
"Garageband is scanning your system for audio devices, and has detected a device named "USB Audio Codec"
If you want to use this device do not disconnect it during the scanning process.
Do you want to use this devise No/Yes."
I select Yes and INPUT SOURCE changes from
Mono 1 (Built-in Microphone)
to
Mono 1 (USB Audio CODEC)
I can see the signal lights lighting up on the audiogram 3 when I talk into the mic, so theres no problem there.
Also when I hit record I can record audio using the mic, and can see the levels (and the audio wave I am creating being drawn on the screen) but I cannot hear the track itself when I am recording using the mic. Nor can I hear the track or the new mic recorded audio AFTER I have hit stop.
The only way to hear the song again with the newly recorded mic track is to unplug the Audiogram 3 (Then I get another Pop-up stating
"The audio device "USB Audio CODEC" has been disconnected!
Do you want to switch to Built-in Audio or quit Garageband?"
I select USE BUILT-IN AUDIO)
Then the input source changes back to
Mono 1 (Built-in Microphone)
And I can hear the track again.
So my problem as you can see if that I cant hear the track while recording using the microphone with the Audiogram 3.
But I can record video with audio using the audiogram 3 USB Audio Inteface and mic using photobooth when I select change Sound>Input to USB Audio Codec in system preferences
It therefore assume it must be a problem with the internal audio settings of the mac/garageband.
Can anyone advise?

In order to hear yourself while you are recording, you need to set Monitor to "ON" under the Track Info panel.
Also, what are your sound output settings? It sounds like you haven't selected the right output source.
If your speakers or headphones are plugged into your audio interface, then you need to go into Preferences -> Audio/MIDI and select your audio interface under Output as well as Input. If your speakers or headphones are built-in or plugged directly into your computer, then you need to select Built-In under Output.
I have a sneaky feeling that you are in the latter scenario, and that when you plug in your audio interface Garageband is automatically switching both Input and Output over to your interface, which means no sound output as long as the interface is plugged in.

No Audio when recording with built -in mic

i have used imovie HD for a while no and when i record with my macbook, it makes perfect video with sound. i have just done my first recording with imovie '08 and there is no sound at all. my setting are set to internal mic. is there something special i have to do to make it record both sound and audio?
please help. i have recorded about an hour of work for future keynote presentations and would be destroyed if i had to remember everything i came up with.

how do you do it?
1. Create a New Basic Track
2. Click the record button
3. There is no step 3.

When Recording with DAE, recording sometimes cuts out...

but not all the time - it appears random. Playback will continue, but when I stop playback, the recording stopped somewhere in the middle of recording. It only happens occasionally but of course it's a pain. No error messages appear.
Is it because I only have Protools 7.1cs6?
I'm using Logic 8.0.1 on a Dual G5 2.7 on OS 10.4.10, 4G Ram.

1. try changing the settings under Preferences/Audio/Devices/DAE: PT HD-Type to at least 64 tracks (2 DSP´s); for me that helped
2. also problems can cause if you have instanciated EXS24 TDM Instruments, so if my first tip doesn´t help, try this

Bad quality playback when burnt to DVD

Hey,
I have burnt my imovie project using the share - media browser in imovie and then the professional setting in idvd. When I play it on my new sony dvd/bluray player on my full hd tv with HDMI lead it has very poor playback. The sound is very muffled and the picture is slighty jumpy.
However when I played the dvd in my parents old dvd player still running off a scart lead but again an hd tv it was perfectly fine with great sound. Can anyone explain why this is and how I might achive a good picture and sound quality in my dvd/bluray player?

I think there is one more thing to this.
• Your parents DVD-player most probably has a superior picture correcting chip in it
BUT
iMovie'08 or 09 or 11 - are not the tool to use when wanting a DVD in as good quality
as DVD can be (SD-video as old TVs)
Due to that they discard every second line resulting in a less sharp picture.
I use
• iMovie HD6 - or - (But do not use "Share/Export to iDVD" - only directly import into iDVD
from within iDVD ! )
• FinalCut (any version) - or -
• FotoMagico™
They all delivers maximum to iDVD
Other thing I do
• Secure a minimum of 25Gb free space on Start-up (Mac OS) hard disk
• Use good DVDs - I use Verbatim
• DVD-R
• Burn speed set down to x4 or x1
• Pro Quality encoding

Small Picture when Recorded to DVD

Hello, Many times I’ve copied TV programmes from my Sky+ disc to re-writeable DVDs via my DVD burner/player, thence to editing software - Adobe Premier Elements (APE) - on my PC, to remove advertisements etc., and then I've burnt them to blank DVDs to be shown on my TV. Basic, simple stuff and no problems ... until recently when I tried to do that with a film of about three hours length. That's longer than the programmes I usually burn to DVD from Sky, and meant that I had to set the DVD recorder to a 4-hour setting instead of the usual 2-hour or 1-hour setting, and in turn that meant that the film was recorded at a lower quality. Here’s the sequence of events:1. The film, when shown on TV from my Sky+ box, was at the normal size, i.e. it filled the (wide) screen;2. When burnt to a DVD-RW (let's call it the First DVD) and shown on TV it was still at the same size, filling the screen;3. When copied from the First DVD to APE on my PC it still filled the screen at the correct size;4. After editing on APE it was still at the same size on my PC;5. After using APE to burn it to a DVD-R (the Final DVD) it was still OK when shown on the PC by a media player; but6. When the Final DVD was shown on my TV via the DVD player, the picture had a black border around it and was exactly half the dimensions of the original Sky recording. Changing the picture ratio made no difference: the border remained and the image was smaller than the original. Since then I've tried various things with the help of someone who's cleverer than I regarding APE, but nothing has resolved the problem. However, he pointed out something strange, which was that the Sky+ box recorded to the First DVD with the frame size of 352 x 576 pixels, i.e. portrait format, not landscape, even though the film presented in landscape at every stage in the process. Problem with Ai when working with a logo (the program gets slow & I can´t move the logo easily)

Hi there, Hope everyone is well. I have troubles with my Ai when working with a logo, I just want to move it from one point to another and it gets pretty slow to be moved. I am working on a brand new iMac and this problem surprises me a little bit. Do you know why is this happening? I get de Ai from the Creative Cloud...could it be the internet?

Can you please show a screenshot?
Are there any placed raster images in your file? Are there any raster effects in your logo file? What are your Effect > Document Raster Effects Settings... ? Also, what are your Preferences > Scratch Disks settings, and how much free space do you have on that (those) drive(s)?
I doubt it's the internet, unless you're also synching at the same time ... and while this is taking place your internet connection is super-slow.

Thnks rcraighead, glad to know about how CC runs. The logo was before a jpg then our designer transform it into vectors but today we were working she found complicated to move the image, it takes secooonds to make it move either from the keyboard or the mouse. I will ask her to see the symbol option, I think she is working with several logos (in vectors) at the same archive...so let see. Thanks buddy! I will be back with a screenshot

Problem with interlacing when exporting with Media Encoder CS 5.5

It seems that when exporting a Video with interlacing in Premiere 5.5 with Media Encoder 5.5, the exported video is still interlaced although it is rendered with progressive settings. When rendering with the same settings through Premiere 5.5 without Media Encoder 5.5 (Button "Export") it is correct and progressive.
I tried this with H264 and MPEG2. Anyone experiencing this problem too?

Were the field interpretted correctly in the first place? Even if you think they are, try reversing them. I've just been through hell doing something similar with a mishmash of client material from around the world.
In some instances I switched field order (In the File>Modify) although it didn't seem logical. In others, I used AE CS5.5 to added the Reduce Interlace Flicker filter.

Can't get sound to play back on Movie Maker when recording with internal webcam/microphone

I have a Windows 8, 64-bit Envy notebook. I tried using Google Hangouts but there wasn't any sound (the camera was fine).
Later, I decided to test the internal microphone myself by creating a Movie Maker file, and clicking on Webcam and making a recording. The camera worked but it played back in total silence.
I checked the settings for the microphone and the internal mic was properly set as the default. I turned up the volume to the maximum. Then I found directions for doing a sound check, and I was able to do the Sound Recording check and get audio when I played the file back.
But when I tried again to make a video, i got zero in the playback.
Any idea what's going wrong?

To restore the audio to your notebook, I recommend following this document on No Sound from Speakers (Windows 8). This should help with the playback on your system.
In addition, you can also follow @SuperMario1's thread on Troubleshooting Guide: Audio does not Work after a Certain Period of Time. This guide should help with your notebook's audio output in regards to a recent Windows Update.
For more assistance, I will need to know:
The Product and Model Number of your notebook computer.
If your computer has completed all of its important Windows Updates.
If you have updated your HP drivers using the HP Support Assistant.

Sustain Pedal not working when recording with software instrument piano

I have an M-Audio sp-2 sustain pedal going into an M-Audio Keystation 88es, which is connected by USB to my mac. When I'm recording and holding down the sustain pedal, the sustain is working properly. However, when I playback what I have recorded, the sustain is gone and it is just the regular piano key notes with no sustain. Does anyone know what the problem here is?

This appears to have been a bug. After restarting the computer the sustain recording is functioning normally now.
