Trouble with playing movie clips

PLEASE can someone help?
I have just imported video footage from my old Sony Handycam and all that appears on the event library is single grey squares...clips?   It takes forever for the beachball to stop whizzing - don't understand it.
It tried to watch previously imported videos and they seem to work ok.

Also, one of the "events" shows every single frame and is jerky when I ask it to play.

  • Newbie:  Help with Interactive Movie Clips

    I'm just starting off with Indesign and am already running into an issue on a seemingly simple issue.  I'm trying to create an interactive document that I will play movie clips when exported to pdf.  Ok so far so good.  I've inserted one movie and started to play around.
    1st issue - The only option I can get to actually play the movie when clicked is when the pdf export option for compatibility is set to 'Acrobat 5 (PDF 1.4)'
                     How come no newer options work?  Using Acrobat reader 9 by the way and tried to toggle options such as 'embedding' the movie.
                     No luck with playing on any setting except 'Acrobat 5 (PDF 1.4)'
    2nd Issue - Inside the movie options dialog box for this clip, there is an option for a poster that I can 'choose movie frame' as poster.  The dialog box       comes up and is completely empth with no video controls or anything.  What the deal with this.
    I'm just starting out and I know I'm not totally incompetant but I'm not very pleased with what I'm seeing right now.
    Any help or suggestions would be very much appreciated.

    Here is some help for starter.
    For embedding, do that in InDesign. I think you know the movie will only play in the PDF.
    If you export to PDF 1.3/1.4•Non-RGB movie or sound posters aren’t visible in the exported PDF document.
    •SWF and MPEG movies aren’t playable in the exported PDF document.
    •Clipping paths applied to movie or sound posters don’t appear in the exported PDF document. Posters are resized to match the movie page item.
    •Movies cannot be embedded.•Sounds cannot be linked.
    If you export to PDF 1.5 or laterQuickTime is specified as the preferred player when exporting to PDF. To change the preferred player, you must edit the rendition in Acrobat 6.0 or later.
    If you export to any PDF version•Non-rectangular media frames don’t appear in the exported PDF document.
    •Hyperlinks applied to movies, sounds, or buttons are not active in the exported PDF document. However, you can add those hyperlinks using Acrobat Professional.
    •Rotated or sheared movies and posters may not appear correctly in the exported PDF document.
    •Any masking applied to movie frames or posters is not supported.

    since the update of the ipod that came along with itunes 7, i have been having trouble with playing my podcast as a playlist through my pioneer ipod adaptor system. everything had been working perfectly until this update. i have tried to reset the ipod 3 times but the problem eventually returns. please advise.

  • Urgent Need of Help Playing Movie Clips

    I'm a complete noob when it comes to AS. I know basic things like stop(); and gotoAndPlay.
    Here's my dilemma.
    Dearest Professor has given us a task of creating a website in Flash. You need to have 15 links, or 15 pages. He states that you can only go frame by frame on the main timeline with no tweening spaces in between. So I'm virtually creating all of my animations in symbols.
    This isnt such a problem... I created a short introduction title video in Flash using a Movie Clip Symbol... placed it on the main timeline on the first page, and then called ActionScript to play the video.
    Here's the problem... So.... the movie will play, but it will continuously loop... I've tried putting stop(); on the home page, under the AS... I'm just completely lost on how to get this to play the short clip and go straight to the home page... Could someone PLEASE, direct me on how to do this and give me an explanation as to why this way is the way it is... I would very much like to understand how it works.

    I did what you suggested but I think I may have messed it up...
    Here's the output error I have going on right now.
    TypeError: Error #1034: Type Coercion failed: cannot convert flash_website_template2_fla::MainTimeline@7fff0d7aea1 to openingtodogwood.
      at openingtodogwood/frame9()[openingtodogwood::frame9:3]
    In the end of the timeline of the movie clip I put this:
    stop();
    openingtodogwood(parent).play();
    I think that might be wrong but I'm unsure on what I should have really put. I was also reading that having the name of the movie clip the same as the class in the properties panels is not a good idea?

  • Having trouble getting my movie clips to my Mac...

    Hello!
    I recently bought my first Macbook (Macbook Pro), my old notebook being a Vaio. My mom is using my old one, so to clear up memory for her, I'm trying to move all of my important files to the Mac. I burnt a bunch of pictures and documents to a disk and transferred them easily enough, but upon burning and attempting to transfer my movie clips, I had no such luck. It doesn't recognize the format of the movies...whatever that format may be. I can't find that either, but I recorded the clips with a Canon camera (it has FS100 written on it) and viewed and edited them with Windows Movie Maker. Now, I can't open any of my clips from the disk that I had burnt. They still play just fine on the old notebook. I have no idea how to move them to my Mac so that I can view and edit them into a polished little movie there. Please help if you can! Thanks in advance!

    Hi Christina, belated welcome to Apple Discussions if nobody said it already.
    I've had some experiences with these new flash memory recording camcorders, and I'll give you a quick rundown of what I've learned. Many of them (JVC, Panasonic, etc.) tend to record in a .MOD file format, which is non-standard, proprietary, and unrecognizable by most software. I thought Canon was usually a little more standards-compliant, but it appears they also use this .MOD format in your specific camera model. There are likely a couple ways we can get around this though!
    In order to play the files, you will likely need to change their file format (.MOD) to .AVI manually. You'll have to locate the files on your Mac, and then manually change the file names so that the file extension (after the period) is .AVI
    At that point, a video player application such as http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-macosx.html>VLC should play the files fine!
    You should be able to transfer new video files from the camera to the Macbook Pro with no problems as well. Just plug in the camera to the computer via USB, and also make sure the camera is plugged in to charge. Once it's plugged in, open iMovie (came with the MBP, in the Applications folder) and the MBP should take care of the rest.

    You can build out a menu by reading the cuePoints array in
    the NetStream.onMetadata handler, or by using the MetadataEvent
    with the FLVPlayback component (AS3). The simple thing for me to
    say is to refer to Chapter 9 of my new Flash Video book. :) (see

  • Playing Movie clip backward using buttons?

    Im trying to create a series of images that scroll acoss the page left and right using arrows at either side of the stage. The arrows use mouse over events to play a movie clip of the images foward and backward.
    There are a few issues I am having. I have a mouse over and mouse out events in place to start and stop the clip on to different buttons. However when playing the clip backward with my current script the mouse out doesnt do anything so the clip just keeps playing backward to the beggining. Once this has happened neither button then does anything.
    Another issue is once the clip has played foward once in total and I mouse over the same arrow button again it flicks back to the begginging of the clip.
    Here is my current scrpit:

    sItem2 is a string and strings don't have _x etc properties.
    "movie1" should be a movieclip, not a string when passed to
    fSwitch() and fSwtich parameter typing should be changed. or
    convert "movie1" into a movieclip in fSwitch()
    to remedy the issue with sItem2, use a reference to your
    movieclip created by attachMovie().

  • Troubles with playing out from Final Cut Studio to a camera

    hello!
    have troubles when playing out to a DV camcorder. i 've got a mac mini intel, final cut studio and 2 sony DV cameras with dv in.
    capturing works fine, but when i put the captured movie to the timeline, then on both cameras there are 4 small bars (2 vertical, 2 horizontal), which shows some content of the captured files. the rest of the display stays black. looks very strange.
    tried to reinstall quicktime, tried to erase quicktime receipts and quicktime settings.. it worked then, but just for one time. after restarting the mac the same problem occured.

  • Having trouble importing a movie clip in iM9

    I am having trouble getting a video clip I made into iMovie 9.
    I recorded this video clip on my Android cellphone.   When I uploaded it into my computer, it came up on my desktop with the tag .mp4.  I found that I could not select it for importing into iMovie, and suspected that iMovie doesn't like the .mp4 tag.  So I opened up QuickTime and converted the clip into a movie with the .mov tag.  The new converted movie's thumnail correctly showed up on my desktop. 
    I then opened up iMovie and opened up my project, complete with the Event Library open.  I did File>Import>Movies and choose my clip.   I got the normal visual and aural indications of a successful import, but the clip did not show up in my project.  In fact it did not show up anywhere in iMovie.  
    I'm wondering what I need to to do find this clip or at least do something else so that I can put it into my project.   Thanks!

    More info:  I pulled up Finder>Movies>iMovie Events>My Project>iMovie Cache> and my clip was there in fine fettle. 
    But I still can't find a way to get it to appear in my project's Event Library, which is what it should do, once I've imported it.  (I believe.)

  • Trouble with .avi movies on newest MacBook Air

    I am very happy with my macboorAir but have trouble viewing .avi movies. I downloaded DIVX Pro (paid) and some movies converted from .avi to dvix in the free version of the program. However, after installing the DIVX Pro, the converter states it has converted the film correctly, however it is not stored anywhere, not traceable. Any suggestions to solve this problem?

    Your question is very confusing and messy.
    Best I can recomend is to download Perian, which is free codec pack for QuickTime - http://perian.org/
    or/and
    Download opensource VLC Player, which plays practicaly anything that can be played

    Your posting could be interpretted at least a couple ways, so I'll try for one of them... Give your movieclips instance names via the Properties panel, and in an actions layer, on the frame you want one to play, add a keyframe and in it add the code: mcName.play();  where mcName is whatever instance name you assign to the movieclip
    The preceding assumes you have a stop(); command in the first frame of each movieclip.
    If that doesn't agree with the scenario you intend, try explaining the details again.

  • Play movie clips backwards

    I have a scene with 7 frames on the main stage, each
    containing movie clips, i was wondering if there was a way to:
    1. Make one or part of one of these movie clips play
    backwards when a button is pressed.
    2. Once a movie ends another specified clip(not neceserally
    after it in the timeline) automatically plays.

  • Working with an Movie Clip as a button.

    I am creating a button with a 20 frame disolve into a page upon entry.  I want the button to play a 20 frame disolve back to it's original state when the user rolls out.  I want the movie clip to play from frame 21 to the end of the mc and then become inactive.  I can get the button to disolve out but the user will not be able to use it after that first roll over.  I was thinking of trying to add a time delay from when the first action of the rollout occurs to when the disolve is complete.  How do I include a 20 frame delay in the roll out sequence?

    The clip has a stop action at frame 1.  On rollover I want it to play at frame 2 until it hits the next stop action command at frame 20.  On roll out I want the clip to play at frame 21 and continue to the last frame (40) then loop back to frame one and stop.
    So that the user can go back to the button after the first time I want the link to become inactive.  The frame rate is 32 fps so I only need a one second delay from the this.gotoAndPlay (21) command to the point where the link is de-activated, this.active = 0;, so that it can be activated again, this.active = 1;.
    I found a line of code on another forum, setInterval(nextThing, 1000);, but it didn't work.
