Trouble with printing wirelessly to HP color laserjet 3550

I am unable to print wirelessly to my HP. Does anyone have any suggestions?

That is a non-postscript, USB printer. HP's driver is for USB only, because it bypasses CUPS (called a monolithic driver).
Easiest way to get a CUPS driver is install hpijs + foomatic + ghostscript:

  • Trouble with printing wireless

Can anyone help. Up until recently I have had no trouble printing wirelessly with iPad and HP photos mart B210 series. Recently it has become a nightmare.
Printing jobs are left in a que. it connects to the printer, but will not complete print task. The same problem occurs with mac book pro. Printer is connected
To router and so is iPad and MacBook. Iphone4s also a problem sending print jobs. Have spent long hours trying to sort this out .but to no avail.
Then suddenly I van print with iPad and mac book but not phone!,
    What is going on!!!

    Gotch-
Did you happen to make any changes to your WiFi network at about the time your trouble started?
I suggest you unplug your WiFi router for a few seconds.  Then reset the network in your iPad and iPhone.  Go to Settings-General-Reset-Reset Network Settings.  You will need to reconnect each to WiFi.
Is it possible you have a neighbor whose Wifi router happens to have the same name (SSID) as yours?  It is possible for a printer, an iPad or a computer to jump to a different WiFi base station with the same name.  This happened to me a few weeks ago when I had trouble printing.  (There are a LOT of WiFi base stations out there named Linksys!)

  • Windows 8 driver solution for HP Color LaserJet 3550

I have successfully installed on my "windows 8 32bit" Hp color laserjet 3550 printer with a USB cable.
(the guides seemed possible only with win8 64bit)
    Follow these steps:
    1) in Hp website support driver, select drivers for windows XP
    2) download clj3550prnsyswin-us.exe (HP color LaserJet 3550 printing system 2.0 April 15, 2005 86.4 MB)
    3) run the setup you unzip the files in c: \ clj3550 printing systems
    4) Connect the USB printer
    5) in the control panel, printer management, add a new local printer
    6) aggingere drivers from disk, select driver in c: \ clj3550 printing systems
    7) At this point the printer is created (hp color laserjet 3550), but it does not work, does not print any page
    8) in device manager right click and update drivers automatically, he searches for the driver online, update them and concludes the setup
    9) now in the control panel, printer management, you will find another printer, hp color laserjet 3550 copy. This one print very well.
    I hope it is useful
    Best Regards Anubi

    Anubi80,
I am sorry, but to get your issue more exposure I would suggest posting it in the commercial forums since this is a commercial printer. You can do this at http://h30499.www3.hp.com/hpeb/ .
    I hope this helps.

  • HP Color Laserjet 3550 and Leopard not working!PLEASE HELP!!

Please excuse me if this has been answered, but after being on the phone for 2 hours with HP, and looking through 100 support articles I am at the point of no return when it comes to frustration.
I have an Imac that I bought 6 months ago. Today my very generous brother bought me the new Leopard. I was very excited after I installed it. It was afterall another reason to play and explore. Then I found a bug.... I am a graphic artist and I went to print out a design for a client and it would not print. No matter what I tried my Imac that was printing to my HP COLOR LASERJET 3550, less then 2 hours ago, was no longer printing. Everytime I send something to print, the printer would say "printer connection opening" then it would say "fatal error......" and pause the job again.
PLEASE HELP WHAT DO I DO!!!! I AM VERY UPSET AND VERY FRUSTRATED!!!!

I just bought my MacBook Pro last week. I have been trying off and on for 3 days to get it to print to my HP Color Laserjet 3550 through apple talk and keep getting a message: The Application Printer Proxy Quit Unexpectedly.
I tried the generic post script printer driver. I no longer got the message but it didn't print either. I am at my wits end.
I was going to upgrade my IMac to Leopard and I sure am glad I read your post. I now will not upgrade because my IMac prints just fine.
So I at least learned something here. Maybe Leopard isn't the best system yet.

  • HP Color Laserjet 3550 and airport

    Hi there
I have three mac laptops all connected to the above printer using the airport extreme. The printer seems to have slowed down dramatically recently -it sometimes takes up to 10 minutes to process and print a simple word document. The HP driver seemed to work pretty well, but can anyone help with why the printer is so slow?
    Thanks

  • Solved! Windows 7 driver solution for HP Color LaserJet 3550

I had success getting the HP Color LaserJet 3550n (the 3550 family ) printer to install in Win7.  That printer was the only thing that did not fire up with Win7. In the Devices and Printers window, I tried troubleshooting, but it was a problem with the DOT4USB drivers. Similarly to others, I was successful by using the following course of action:
      1) Went to HP and downloaded the Vista 32-bit drivers for the 3550, unpacking them at C:\HP CLJ3550\ as suggested by the driver file.
      2) In Devices & Printers, did <Right-Click> <HP 3550> <Properties> <Hardware tab>
      3) I selected the first "Device Function" <DOT4USB> then did <Properties> <Change Settings> <Driver tab> <Uninstall>.
      4) I then selected the second and third Function (which were <HP Color LaserJet 3550> and <IEEE 1284.4 compatible printer> and did the the <Properties> ... <Uninstall> for each.
      5) I disconnected the USB to the printer, went back to Devices & Printers, and selected <Add a Printer>.
      6) I selected <Add a local printer> <Use existing port DOT4_001> <Next> <Have Disk> <C:\HP CLJ3550> <OK> and installed the printer.
      7) It would not work unless I "let" Windows make it the Default Printer
      8) After it was finished, I did <Right-Click> on my preferred printer and selected <Set as default printer>, and everything worked.

I want to thank you for the solution.  You saved me the expense of having to purchase a new computer.  I used the 64 bit 2003 version and it works just fine.  The people at HP were not very cooperative at all.  When I called, the lady who answered the phone asked if I was from the United States or Canada. When I stated the United States she had a big sigh
of disgust.  When I explained my problem that I was having with the 3550 Laser jet and HP not having the Window 7 drivers, and that the printer was non functional, she stated that I should have researched whether or not my printer was compatible with a new operating system before purchasing it. I asked her if HP would have a compatible driver soon as I did not want to have to purchase a new printer. Then she stated that my printer was old (I bought it in 2005) and what did I expect,t as if the printer not working was my fault.    I told them about your solution to this problem and if they could help me through the step but she did not cooperate .Even if I had to pay the $39 fee to the tech dept for their assistance it was worth it saving time.  HP service in my opinion is very poor and will lean toward a competitors product if I am faced with a choice.  Thank you again.

  • Hp color laserjet 3550 no longer works in Tiger 10.4.11

I received a used hp color laserjet 3550 a couple of years ago and it has worked quite well on my powerbook g4 running Tiger 10.4.11 until a couple of weeks ago. Now whenever I try to print, the print queue window shows the file, tries to open  the printer connection and then shows "jobs stopped." I tried numerous times clicking on the start jobs button, shutting off the  printer, pulling out and then  plugging in the usb cable (which always used to cure the problem), and restarting my computer, but I can't get the printer to print.
I tried running my computer using Leopard, and lo and behold,  the printer works fine - even better than when I was using Tiger. Seems to be using a driver "hp color laserjet 1.4" in Tiger and "hp color laserjet 2.0" (or maybe 2.0..1) in Leopard. But I need to be able to use it in Tiger because some of the software I use every day is not compatible with Leopard.
Does anyone have any idea how to get this working again?  I tried the hp installation disk - doesn't do anything. hp's website says that all the drivers are pre-installed in OSX, so there's nothing to download.
I'd be happy  to get driver 1.4 working again, but I'd be even happier  if I could get driver 2.0 installed in Tiger.
    Thanks,
    Joe

    Thanks for the suggestion, BDAqua.
I tried Safe Boot, I tried Repair Permissions, restarted and tried resetting the printing system.  Nothing worked.  One thing, though, is that before the printer setup automatically chose hp color laserjet 1.4, version 1.4.5 briefly flashed in the menu list.  I have no  idea where it found  that, but maybe the problem  is that 1.4 is not the correct driver.  There is no hp color laserjet 3550 in the list of drivers, and I have searched in vain for hp color laserjet 2.0. on both my Tiger system hd and  on  my Leopard system hd.  But 2.0 has got to  be on the Leopard hd because it works when I boot in Leopard.  This mystery is getting very frustrating. But there has to be a way to fix it because it used to work.

  • HP Color Laserjet 3550 - the "attention" light won't turn off

I've tried everything I can think of for weeks but I can't get the "attention" light on my HP Color Laserjet 3550 to turn off.  It originally came on when a page on from the manual input tray got stuck maybe 20% of the way in.  It was a real easy fix,  I pulled the page out and now the "attention" light won't turn off.  So I can use the printer at all.  I've had this printer about a year. I purchased it used.  I've always had the manual feed tray as the default because I use this printer mostly for envelopes and less than 81/2 x11 printing as I have an old workhorse HP 4+ for all my straight 81/2 x 11 printing. I've rebooted. I've unhooked cables and the router.  I've opened up the printer and removed the casing (the plastic apparatus on the door)  and replaced it. The router is a 2Wire HomePortal 1800HG.  I'm just baffled here I've printed so much with the manual feed tray and I've had allot worse things happen that I've had to fix.  Now a simple stick like this and the light just wont' go off.

    HI Vern,
Where did you bought the printer? may you bought it from a different region than your current one?
What is the exact cartridge number of both the black and the tri-color ink cartridge, as well as their product number?
I bought the printyer in the US and the cartridges also came from the US,  probably no the same state.  Cartdridge # 97,  black # 96.  I don't see a product number.  This is the same # that was in the printer before and the same one I always used.   As soon as I pull it out the light goes out,  and on again as soon as I install it.  This is before the printer even cycles through it's "new cartdridge" routine,  if you know what I mean.
    thanks for the reply

  • HP Color LaserJet 3550 offline

Our HP Color Laserjet 3550 printer has gone offline today.  The first PC to have the issue was a windows 7 ultimate x64 machine, then various XP pro x86 machines and finally it's now showing offline on our server (Windows 2003 SBS x86).  I can't figure out why, we have another printer which is working (not made by HP) but it's not in a convenient location for the group who previously did used the HP one.  The cabling is high grade Cat 6 connected to a gigabit router, the print server is a HP Jetdirect en3700.  The printer itself is showing as ready.  The only thing to have changed since yesterday are the OS updates which were pushed out by MS last night (patch Tuesday).  I've tried removing the printer and re-adding it using the stardard printers & fax start menu options but windows flatly refuses stating that the printer cannot be contacted.  The weird thing is it was working for a time on the windows XP machines after it had stopped working from the windows 7 PC.
Any idea's? The issue is driving me (and my boss) nuts!!!
    Thanks in advance!

Just to add to the experiences...
I've have on several occasions experienced that the en3700 somehow is lost in the network setup as a print server.
This occurs after the en3700 has been turned off, e.g. power disconnected, split-second power failure.
Symtoms are that neither my xp pc nor my vista laptop can print. Both reports an error on printing anything. But... when I try to print from Ubuntu on my laptop, things proceed as before the disconnection.
Current status of my problem solving is that the printer firmware isnt upgraded whereas the en3700 firmware is.
The only solution working currently is reinstalling the printing software which of course is tedious but... it restores the printing ability.

  • HT6114 Problems with 10.9.2 printing to an HP Color LaserJet 2600n?

Since upgrading to 10.9.2 I can no longer print graphics to my HP Color LaserJet 2600n.  Text prints fine.  I restored my computer to 10.9.1 and everything is fine so it is not the printer.  I figure the only explanation is that the update has created the problem.  Has anyone else encountered this?

You may have more luck in the Tiger printing forum.
Have you downloaded the drivers from here:

  • Envelopes won't print correctly to HP Color LaserJet 2550n

I have been having some printing issues since I set up our printer as a Bonjour printer with my AirPort Extreme Base Station. Ironically when I had our HP Color LaserJet 2550n set up as a networked printer on a LAN port of one of our Linksys routers my family had very few printing issues. It was in this configuration that I was able to print an envelope in Pages '08 without any problems. Now I can get the information to print, but if I put in a letter sized piece of paper to 'test' the information prints across the bottom of the page in correct format, but not in the correct orientation for a #10 envelope.
I have gone to page setup and changed the Paper Size to #10 envelope. This did not help. This is so frustrating since I was printing without issue when this printer was on a LAN port of our second Linksys router. I am now using Easy Envelopes from Ambrosia as a work around, but want to be able to print from within Pages '08, and not have to rely on Easy Envelopes or MS Word 2006. I am wondering if this has to do with the drivers that I had to use when I set up this printer on the USB port of my AirPort Extreme Base Station.

Well go figure. When I went to System Preferences/Print and Fax, and it showed two versions of my printer. The one with an accurate picture representing my printer, and one that used Generic Post Script drivers with a picture that did not look like my printer. So I uninstalled both printers, shut down my computer, did some things for awhile, restarted my computer, went to System Preferences/Print and Fax and clicked on the “+” to add a printer. The computer very quickly recognized up my printer with the correct picture for it. I added this printer, and went to Pages ’08 and it printed a #10 envelope without a hitch.
I think that what happened was that I recently did a reinstall of OS X Tiger, and as a part of that install I had a problem with the .DMG file I downloaded from HP’s web-site, and wonder if this is when the generic PS files were installed.
Anyway my printer seems to be working fine now, and maybe this will help someone with the same problem.

  • Unable to print to an HP Color LaserJet 2600n in 10.4.11

Hi (I really, truly have gone through the other topics and can't find a solution).
I'm trying to print on a G3 iMac via USB to an HP Color Laserjet 2600n. The printer driver is not included with Apple, and when I went to download it from the HP site (complete package for G3 computers running OS 10.3 or 10.4) it says there are no files to mount. I downloaded the same thing for a G3 running Panther and it installed perfectly and that iMac prints to the 2600n without a problem. I then downloaded the driver for G4s using the 2600n onto the G3 running 10.4.11 and while it installed fine and the print setup recognizes the printer, the printer will not print. It goes through "starting job" gets to "processing job" and stays there forever. I was on Customer Support with HP, and as a result of installing the printer on my older iMac, we've deduced the problem must be with the software on the G3 that won't print (the one running 10.4.11)
I read somewhere that with this HP printer and some others the job gets processed on the computer itself and then is sent to the printer. Clearly, the iMac is not processing the job.
I've installed, uninstalled, reinstalled, redownloaded, etc. etc. I don't know what to do. I installed Ghostscript et al, but there is no driver there for the 2600n. I've tried generic postcript and it doesn't work- in that case the print box goes for a few seconds and then says "printing stopped."
It's only this printer- this iMac with 10.4.11 prints to two other printers via a Bonjour network (an HP 2015 and an HP 2300n). But I'd like access to a color printer. Any thoughts? Any ideas? Why won't the complete G3 package install on this iMac when it will on the one running Panther? And why won't it process the print job?

OK. So you began by trying to install the same package you installed on the Panther machine? It sounds as though the file got corrupted during the download if the system couldn't mount the disk image. Anyway, you then downloaded a different package for G4 machines and installed that on your G3 machine but this didn't work.
Are you sure about this? Do HP really have different packages for G4 and G3 Macs? If so, you will need the G3 package for a G3 Mac. Can you point me to the HP download page listing the drivers so I can take a look? That way I should be able to see exactly what you've tried so far.
OK, I found the page. There isn't a G4 package as such but the G3 one is supposed to run on Tiger so that is likely the one you need.
Is the printer's firmware up to date? I notice there's an update utility for it, too.
It goes through "starting job" gets to "processing job" and stays there forever. I was on Customer Support with HP, and as a result of installing the printer on my older iMac, we've deduced the problem must be with the software on the G3 that won't print (the one running 10.4.11)
This doesn't follow. It could be that HP's drivers don't work properly on Tiger but do on Panther. That could as easily be HP's fault as anybody else's. (It might not be their fault, but the fact that their driver works on Panther doesn't necessarily mean that driver - or another driver - will work on Tiger.)
I've installed, uninstalled, reinstalled, redownloaded, etc. etc. I don't know what to do.
When you uninstalled, how exactly did you remove the installation? Please give me as many details as you can.
I installed Ghostscript et al, but there is no driver there for the 2600n.
Why did you think installing GS might help? Ghostscript doesn't provide print drivers as far as I know (though it is involved - or can be involved - in printing processes).

  • Slow printing copies to HP Color Laserjet 400 series

This issue first appeared on 10.8, and still there... Not sure if it is a feature or bug
HP Color Laserjet M451 with ethernet connect and 386 MB ram. Mac 10.9.3 with latest print driver from HP.
Let's say my document has 5 pages, text and graphics, it will print fine speed wise. Say it takes about 30 sec to spool, process and print the one page. THe rest of the document print at good speed.
If I decided to print 8 copies of this document, and select 8 copies in the print setting, it will essentially submit the print job 8 times so after the first job is done, i will have to wiat for it to process the file and spool it to the printer, etc. it will take a long time. It does not matter it is Word, PDF (using Acrobat reader or Preview), or PowerPoint, same time of respond.
Same printer, network and file print from Windows 7 will spool, process once, and then the printer will just fly thought the copies as if it is all one document, so i can get this done in say 1 min. The printer print fast after 1 page.
So. Let's say I want to print 1 page of a document (it can be just text), and say i want 50 copies. then forget it. It will sit there and spool, process and etc each  page for 30 sec. And windows 7 (even xp) will treat it like it is printing one document of 50 pages.
Any idea if this is a feature of Mac or HP? couldn't be HP if windows 7 print ok.

This works for me, because I'm tired of waiting for Adobe to find solutions: open your pdf document with Preview and print from there. It will print cleaner and faster than any Adobe application.

  • Printing to a HP Color Laserjet CM4540 MFP from new iPad.

I am trying to print from my new iPad to my HP Color Laserjet CM4540 MFP.
When I try to print the iPad gives me the option to choose my printer. It currently only recognizes one printer- not the CM4540. It recognized the other printer without any problems or setup by myself.
I'm assuming b/c the CM4540 is not supported to print from the iPad this is why I'm having trouble.
Can someone confirm my assumption please? Or- let me know how to connect to the CM4540 to print?
    Thanks!!
