Trouble with QT movie playing on Window systems.

I created a website using iWeb and included a movie page with a QT file compressed MPG4 streaming for the web. The file will not play in Internet Explorer. A message pops up that says missing components to play this file. It checks the QT site for updates and says there are none available. The QT logo goes away, the play button appears, screen stays white, I hit play and can hear the sound but no video.
Anyone know where to get the right plugins to make this work? Anyone know of a different QT file I should be creating to make this work?

iWeb uses QuickTime version 7 and all of the "preset" export options create files that can also only be viewed using version 7.
The alert messages a PC gets are informing them of this codec version and some PC's (Win 98 for example) can't be updated to use version 7.
You can use "custom" exports to avoid the H.264 video codec (the only one that requires QT 7) to avoid this message.
Your files may be slightly larger in file size when using these custom exports and it's best you understand the compression schemes before using them.
Easier to ask your PC using friends to download and install the newest version of QuickTime. Those that want to view your QT video files will do it.

Exporting to movie - playing on windows pc - breaks sizes of window???

Hello folks,
Supppper weird thread post (I KNOW!) - and sorry about that!
here's the situation - the resolution im working with in Keynote is 800x600 & I tried 1024x...
When i export to movie (because I have a movie clip) and play it on my windows computer, the sides (left & right) of the presentation cut; meaning - they cut into the presentation and don't show some of the stuff..
for example if i have a picture on the far right (in my presentation) well the picture on the far right will not fully show because the frame is cutting the image...
What do i do?
I've tried to export to power point but some of the stuff doesn't quite work such as the efx and so on...
Please help.

If you don't find a fix there is a workaround that would work but would involve a fair amount of work up front. See this demo page: Opening Item in a New, Precisely Sized Window and this demo page with 9 movies on it which don't load until you click the Play button: PhotoPresenter Animated Slideshow Themes.
You can use any size thumbnail for the image and put the play button on or below it. The movie will then play in its native size. Just a possible alternative.

Trouble with .avi movies on newest MacBook Air

I am very happy with my macboorAir but have trouble viewing .avi movies. I downloaded DIVX Pro (paid) and some movies converted from .avi to dvix in the free version of the program. However, after installing the DIVX Pro, the converter states it has converted the film correctly, however it is not stored anywhere, not traceable. Any suggestions to solve this problem?

Your question is very confusing and messy.
Best I can recomend is to download Perian, which is free codec pack for QuickTime - http://perian.org/
or/and
Download opensource VLC Player, which plays practicaly anything that can be played

HT201343 can you mirror say desktop 2 and still use your mac on desktop 1 with the movie playing on the tv?

I'm interested in Apple TV for the mirroring feature through AirPlay, but will only purchase if I can still use my mac as normal whilst i'm watching what is being mirrored on the tv. Is this possible in any way? like possibly having the movie playing on desktop 2 and mirroring that and still use the mac with the other desktops to browse the internet etc?

No, AirParrot isn't a solution for dexta,
AirParrot gives mirroring function to older computer that are unsupported by the Apple's mirrorring function. Dexta is looking to extend is display which isn't a feature of AirParrot.
AppleTV will only gives you direct access to some web content using the builtin features like YouTube, Netflix, etc. If you are looking for unsupported access to other website without using mirroring, then the AppleTV isn't the best hardware to answer your need.

Has anyone had any trouble with the Move tool in Photoshop (v14.2.1)? I'm getting a dimmed bounding box akin to the transform bounding box, but this one won't let me apply or escape.

Having trouble suddenly with the Move tool creating a bounding box that wont let me release it by any means. It remains there no matter what, and now I'm having trouble using the Paste Into command.

Are you trying to move a background layer by any chance or a layer that is partially locked?? If you have show bounding checked in the option bar you should see the bounding box.

Is anyone else having trouble with Rush's new auto Podcast system

I have been using your Podcast software for some time now and it has been working just fine. I download the daily shows and put them on my iPod Shuffle, to listen to what I might have missed in the morning, later in the day. it worked beautifully. I also download the daily videos to my new video pod - works great also!
I could hardly wait to try the new scheme of automatic down load to iTunes. I am not totally sure that had anything to do with all my following problems, but now iTunes has crashed several times and I can't even force it to shut off, I have to "Pull the plug" to get back control of my computer.
The shuffle, although it shows that the 3 daily hours are on it, will no longer play to my Bose headset. As I said I am not blaming your new system, but the coincidence is alarming. Have you heard of anyone else having these problems?

Not sure what to do, can't seem to rent on Apple TV tonight. Netflix is working and Itunes on my MAC is working. I can always plug Mac to sound system but.... Anyone out there ith same trouble today.

I went to Apple TV support and in answer to rentaing movies it referred me with a link to this:
How long do I have to watch a rented movie?
You have 30 days from the time of rental to watch your movie, and 24 hours (in the US) or 48 hours (elsewhere) after you've started viewing to finish it. Once the rental period expires, the movie will disappear from your iTunes library.
This is a link FROM the Apple TV page. So I should have 30 days to watch the movie. Under Settings is a "Search for rented movies" option. Isn't that where you would find your rentals that you have not watched yet?
It's not that I don't WANT to troubleshoot. I just do not have a CLUE how to provide what you are asking for.

Problem with OEM backing up on windows system.

I have a problem with backing up with a specific user.
I am currently running various "test" db's and am planning to back them up.
The Setup:
Host OS is windows 2003 server s2
Grid control 10.2.0.1
Database 10.2.0.2
Target Db is running on a windows 2003 server
The Situation:
From grid control I locate the db in question and go to the maintenance page and the backup settings. First of all I want to test the backup using the tab. Before this of course I enter the Host OS credentials into the system, let’s say "jamie", and add the appropriate password. By this point I have made sure that the user "jamie" is in the local security policy setting "log on as batch job" and that is in the group ora_dba (This is on both the machine I am backing up from and the target db machine.). For security reasons I have limited the share folder location to the user "jamie", making sure that sharing and security has the appropriate privileges to access the share.
I run a test backup using the tab within backup settings and await the results. The results come back unsuccessful. Reading through the log I see that the path to backup share is denied.
So to further the test I change the privileges within the share to "everyone" and that is for both sharing and security, just to see whether or not it’s the path itself rather than restrictions to the user. It is then a success. I checked to see who actually owned the file that was used within the test. It belonged to the local system on the target db, not to the user that I had specified within "Host OS Credentials".
Can anyone explain to me why and what is the reason behind putting in Host OS Credentials when the agent that is committing the back up is using the local domain system user account. I am aware that the Agent is part of a service within windows and belongs to the local domain. Ergo, why have host credentials.
And can anyone help me out with getting round this predicament if I still want security within the systems. I can’t just leave access to the share under "everyone", that'd be a really big hole in the system?!
Any help at all will be gratefully received.

Idvd having trouble with QT movie

Hi everybody,
So I've exported my FCP 6 project using : Quicktime movie
Setting: Current Settings
Include: Audio & Video
Make movie self contained is checked
It plays fine in QT, there is plenty of space on my G5, but idvd for some reason is playing the movie all jerky. Any ideas?

Suggestion: Try again but this time uncheck self-contained to see if this helps.
Quick question ... What is the source of your original video?
Open the file/s within QuickTime Player and do a WINDOW > SHOW MOVIE INSPECTOR
Tell us what video and audio formats are shown.

Having trouble with the renameTo() method in Windows

Hi all,
The below code works perfectly well in netbeans but as shown as I try to call it from cmd prompt I get issues.
The below code is designed to move or delete log files from one area or another.
now if i try to delete the logs from command prompt I have no problem.
However when I tried to move the files by doing renameTo() I get a false back. And as this method seems to have no relevant error message, I am at a loss....
Now I have checked the permissions, this is not a problem (all users can edit the files, if I can't edit them why will let me delete them?), I have checked to make sure no duplicate files exist and they don't. i have also tried to move the files to different locations, same problem. The files are definitely not open.
I need the below to work on 1.5 due to compatibility issues with other programs.
Any ideas?

right I think I have worked out what I am doing wrong I think.....
I am calling the code with:
java -jar "deleteLogs.jar" "D:\TADDM" ".rar" 31 "D:\Working Files\deleteFilesLog.log" "move" "D:\Working Files\"
However when I go to create file its giving me:
D:\Working Files"logs.rar
Which is clearly not the correct file name....
So why is it removing the \ and not the "?

HT202213 Trouble with iTV connecting on my windows PC.

Hi,
We have an iPad and a PC laptop, the latter running Windows 7.
I bought an iTV, logged in on all with my apple ID which is the same on both computers and the ATV.
The ATV can communicate with the iPad and it did it intuitively but it can't find nor play my music in iTunes and on my PC. The PC is updated to 11.1.1 and have tried everything to make the connection.
Need some help and thanks in advance.

When I check the firewall, what exactly am I checking for?
Here's what I have:
I see my home network setting is shown as "NOT CONNECTED" and maybe that's the problem? If so, how would I change that?
My home network firewall is turned on but I also see that iTunes is already on my allowed list. Doesn't that include iTV? And I see that the firewall is supposed to alert me if anyone tried to get in there....that didn't happen either. Beside the "TURN OFF FIREWALL" button is a warning, "NOT RECOMMENDED"
Regarding the site you suggestd I go to on Apple....I had been there and believe I had complied with all conditions before requesting help here. For example, all the apple ID's on the appleTV, iPad and my laptop are the same; I have the latest version of iTunes; not in sleep mode, etc.
What did I miss?

Troubles with Tunes (+ QuickTime) 6 for Windows

Impossible to update to, install or reinstall the latest version of iTunes (+ Quicktime).
I always receive the following error messages:
- with iTunesSetup, the InstallShield Wizard gives:
- when repairing => error -3
- when removing + reinstalling => error -3
and afterwards restarting iTunes => error - 2093
- with QuickTimeInstaller, the Installshield Wizard gives:
- when installing => error - 1603
So, I don't succeed to reinstall both programs iTunes and QuickTime and I have no longer access to my music.
Who can solve this problem. Wherefore thanks in advance.

I was one of the legion with problems in downloading iTunes6 and QT7 for Windows until I tried something (I must say that I am not a pc wizard and I don't know the technical reasons for why the following worked, it just did! So if there are any pc geeks out there, be sure to chime in). Anyway, this is what I did. First uninstall QuickTime if you do have it on your pc. If not, just go to the next step:
Go to START, then RUN. Type in regedit and then click OK. Your REGISTRY EDITOR should open. You should see HKEYLOCALMACHINE in the scroll down menu on the left, with a small box to its left. Make sure that the inside of the box has a negative sign - this will open up the next set of subfolders. Next, make sure that the subfolder, SOFTWARE, has a negative sign in the small box to its left. Next, make sure that there is a negative sign in the box next to the subfolder entitled, Apple Computer, Inc. You'll see at least three subfolders: iPod, iTunes and QuickTime. Click once on the QuickTime folder until it is highlighted and then delete it. You will be asked if you want to delete QuickTime and its subfolders. Click ok and then close out the Registry Editor.
Next, download the stand alone QuickTime 7 at this link (you may have to cut and paste this link to open this website):

When you download the stand alone QT7, you may get a couple of error messages (I did), but if you repeatedly click ok (like I did), the QT7 player should load with no problems.
Again, I am no pc geek, but this worked for me and I have gained access to iTunes6 (with video capacity) and my complete library is intact. Nothing like trial and error!! Good luck -- I hope this works for all of you frustrated Podheads out there!

HT1923 1/30/14 trouble with iTunes services on a Windows 7 (64bit) OS. deleting 'common files/apple' will not execute

Following the support steps for uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes on a Windows 7 (64bit) computer, the provided bullet points for additional steps requests to uninstall 'program files (x86)/common files/apple'.
When attempting to delete this 'apple' folder an error message occurs saying 'the action can't be completed because the folder or a file in it is open in another program'.
Looking in this 'apple' folder there are the folders and files for Internet Services & Windows Migration Assistant, and in sub-folders things like iCloud & Photostream, etc. Makes sense the error would occur given this folderinstall given this situation?

I did find MobileMe and deleted it prior to reading the support message, noticing that I likely did not need it anymore while deleting iTunes and the related programs.
And as you were replying just now, I was able to download and install iTunes without having to return to 'commonfiles/apple' and attempt to delete it again.
I discovered that Adobe Bridge was open in the background, and it sent a similar 'runtime' error along with iTunes, and iTunesHelper.exe, and so I used Task Manager to end Adobe Bridge as part of the troubleshooting.
Seems like all is working again.

Still having trouble with iTunes movie rental

Running a Mac w/iTunes 7.6. It brought down the whole movie, but just as it's about to finish, I get an error that says "We could not complete your iTunes store request. An unknown error occured (5103). There was an error in the iTunes Store. Please try again later."
The content is still there. I've tried refreshing, etc. Still, the same error. I logged it to Apple, but got a generic reply telling me to update to the latest version of iTunes, etc.
Anyone else getting this?

Apple tech support said it was time/date, but my time/date were correct, and I was using the "get time from Apple" feature. So, they had me delete a folder, and they de-authorized all my iTunes. Then, when I re-authorized, it worked fine. So, problem fixed, though when I asked why this worked, the tech responded "dunno -- someone tried that with someone else and it did the trick"
Go figure. Down side: it took me 3 days to get a fix. Up side: Apple support helped over the weekend (which I didn't expect) and the problem is fixed, so that's helpful
