Trouble with reading from partitioned drive.

Hi guys.
A family member has entrusted me with trying to sort out her laptop. Her internal hard drive was full and was not letting her do anything.
I found out that the drive was partitioned in half 80GB/80GB.
I then proceeded to clean up the laptop as it hadn't had any cleanup done to it in the 4 years of owning it and it was very slow.
I got to the iTunes folder and moved it to the partitioned half. I then looked into getting the iTunes program to read the files from this drive b changing the folder location through Edit> Preferences> Advanced> Change iTunes Media folder Location.
I changed it to D:\iTunes Media\Music
At first this worked and all the library was listed. Then after the family member got it home she opened it up and there wasn't anything in the library.
It had reverted back to :C drive where there wasn't any media anymore as I have deleted it. Currently it is still in the : D drive and also on an External HDD backed up.
I would like to know how I am supposed to get iTunes to read the media from the Partitioned drive and also use this drive as its storage drive all the time when purchasing media.
I am not all that good with this kind of thing as there is only so much I can understand from the internet

anyone?

  • In Trouble with the Oracle JDBC Driver version - 10.1.0.5.0

    Hi !
Without any problems i'm using the Oracle JDBC Driver version - 10.1.0.3.0 to access to the
Oracle database (Oracle Database 10g Release 10.2.0.1.0 - 64bit Production).
But exchanging the JDBC Driver 10.1.0.3.0 to 10.1.0.5.0 brings up the following problem:
    the statement
         con.prepareStatement(sql, resultSetType, resultSetConcurrency, resultSetHoldability)
         (with parameters resultSetType = 1003, resultSetConcurrency = 1007, resultSetHoldability= 1)
    returns null !
while using the Oracle JDBC Driver version - 10.1.0.3.0 the statement (with same parameters)
    returns a correct PreparedStatement.
Every hint or idea is welcome.
    Best regards,
    Claus

    Claus,
Pardon me if I am stating the obvious, but why don't you use the 10.2 JDBC driver with your 10.2 database? The driver is part of the database distribution. Otherwise, you can download the driver from the OTN Web site.
    Good Luck,

  • Trouble with my DVD/CD drive/slot.

I am having some trouble with my DVD/CD drive/slot. It will not accept any CD's or DVD's that I have tried to insert. I have tried restarting the computer and updating software. Does anyone have any ideas that may help? Thanks

try doing a SMC reset and see if that makes your CD/DVD work again.
if that doesn't work, try a PRAM/NVRAM reset.
if not, make an appointment with apple to have them look at it.

  • Problem With Parallels Reading From Disk Drive

When I am using the Windows 7 virtual machine on Parallels, I can't read from the built-in CD-DVD player.
I'm trying to install MS Office 2010. When I insert the disk, it begins spinning and sounds like it's trying to read it but after a while it stops without anything coming up. I already have checked the devices menu and tried the "Default CD/DVD" choice and the "OPTIARC DVD RW AD-5680H" choice from the "CD/DVD 1" menu. Neither of them work. When I tried the "OPTIARC" one, the cursor flickered to the reading-from-disk sprite for a split second.
Any help with this problem would be greatly appreciated.

  • Very slow reads from Mirrored drives

    Hi all -
I'm running a Tiger G5 Xserve with mirrored 80Gig SATA drives as the primary HD, and a standalone 250Gig SATA drive in the third bay. At the end of each workday, SuperDuper does a smart update from the mirrored drive to the standalone drive as a backup, and it takes about 40 minutes to run through 40Gigs of data.
I also backup via SuperDuper directly from the mirrored drive to an external 2.5" 80Gig firewire drive once a day for offsite backup, and that takes 40 minutes.
That means I'm getting nearly identical performance to an onboard SATA 3.5" and an external Firewire 400 2.5" - strongly suggesting that it's something in the RAID mirror, rather than in the interface or SATA channel of the receiving drive.
Last week, for some reason, I selected the standalone drive as the source for the backup, and it took 8 minutes. After a bit testing, it seems clear that doing the same backup takes roughly 5x longer when the source is the mirrored drive. The server load is quite light at backup time - under 20% before the backup, under 50% during the backup, even though smart update has a LOT of files to sift.
My understanding is that mirrors are often slower to write than other configurations, as they have to sync, but this is almost entirely a reading transaction, and I've never seen anything about mirrors being so slow to read relative to a standalone.
It this normal? an artifact of the software RAID? Something misconfigured?
It's not a huge problem for me, but since I run this procedure twice a day, it'd sure be nice to have it be one that I come back to in 10 minutes, instead of an hour.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Dean Larue-
This may all be logical, but I would double-check the SuperDuper settings just to make sure that you aren't doing different backup types.
The two 80GB are doing a lot of other stuff whilst you are backing them up and the 250GB just had to read and push files.
I would also imagine that the 2X80GB drives are fuller percentage-wise than the 250GB drive as this too would impact performance.
As it has no files to compare while backing up, SuperDuper is often faster doing the initial backup. Comparing the files on the source drive to the many files on the backup drive takes time.
    Luck-

  • I am having trouble with hdmi from MacBook to TV

Having trouble with the sounds when I connect  hdmi from MacBook to TV

This is the iPad forum. Do you have a question about iPad? If not, I'll ask that your post be reassigned.
BTW, you will need to provide more detail than that for someone to help. How are you connecting the two? What have you already done to troubleshoot? What was the result?

  • How do you direct EXS24 to read from External drive?

my logic pro EXS24 is not reading from My external drive. How do i create a path??

    Hi Nastushka
Glad you liked the website, it's my intention to keep updating over time and I hope people continue to find it useful. I was very lucky when I started out that lots of very smart people helped me out, so it's nice to continue the tradition.
    In answer to your question.
To the best of my knowledge there's no way to have the actual .exs files on an external drive and have Logic still see them. My understanding is that Logic performs a number of "scans" on start up, during this process it checks a number of preset locations and then adds the files it finds to your available tools.
The good news is that the .exs files are relatively small, so they shouldn't eat in to your hard drive space too much. It's the audio ( wav or aiff ) that takes up all the space.
For example I have Pure E-Basses on my laptop ( from which I'm typing ) and the whole folder of .exs files is 6.5meg the related samples folder is 2.52gig.
Ok, moving into speculative mode, _I haven't tried this myself_, if you absolutely must have the .exs files on an external drive I can think of no logical reason this couldn't be achieved with the judicious use of an Alias. So you'd create an Alias of the .exs files and put these in the correct location for Logic to scan and point these Aliases to the original files on your external HD.
Unfortunately I'm not in a position to test this at the moment.
Maybe somebody could chip in if they've tried it ?
I'd also suggest that if you don't have enough room on you internal HD for the .exs files you may have bigger problems down the line. All HDs ( in my experience ) need a reasonable percentage of free space to work at their best.
I'll copy this into the other thread, it may be sensible to continue this discussion in one thread from now on.

  • Loading trouble with reader

In trying to load reader from the online store, it gets about 80% finished and then gives an error saying I need a registration key. I have had Reader on this computer before and it worked fine but one day it stopped coming up automatically on the list for opening attachments. If I could load an older version that is simpler that would be the best. Any ideas? Running windows XP pro. Thanks

I just wanted to say I was "searching" for answers to my own trouble with Adobe Reader 9, when I came across your post and "graffiti's" answer!

I clicked directly on that link ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/9.x/9.1/enu/AdbeRdr910_en_US.exe and it did WORK!!! I'm so grateful because for days I've been unable to access documents that require Adobe Reader!
Thank you Graffiti, and thank you duendestudio for the post heading I needed ~ I'm now a happy camper!
    God bless you both!

  • Variety of problems- not reading from hard drive, etc.

My 30 GB iPod Photo died a while ago, so I recently received an 80 GB 5G for the holidays. However, it hasn't been working correctly. I have a whole list of problems- most would seem to stem from it not reading from the hard drive. Note that almost every single one of these can be resolved by resetting the iPod, but having to do that over and over and losing my place in podcasts and that sort of thing is really annoying. I already tried restoring it completely once, and it didn't seem to help. What's odd is that, shortly after getting the iPod, I went on vacation for almost a week, in a warmer climate. It worked perfectly fine the entire time I was there, but then started up again upon my return.
    - The classic just not playing songs/videos, where you select a song and the artwork doesn't load and it doesn't play then just ends. Sometimes accompanied by freezing.
    - Skipping. I've never heard an iPod skip before, but it's happened several times. Also, I've had a weirder problem where a second or so of sound from earlier in a podcast repeats every so often during the rest of it. Just turning the iPod off and on again helps with that, though. And sometimes something will randomly stop in the middle.
    - Not recognizing data. My old iPod did this all the time. You reset it, and there are no songs, videos, etc. listed. If you connect it to the computer, iTunes classifies all the data as "other." It generally goes away if you reset it again. This has also happened partially, where some things show up but not others.
    - Sometimes, during a video, the audio will suddenly become a horrible screeching sound. You can stop the video and try to play something else, but then it freezes. The video might work perfectly fine later- that's not the problem.
    - Slow functioning. This might be normal- things like the graphics "skipping" while both listening to something and playing a game. Or sometimes it just seems generally sluggish to respond.
    - Not working with the case. I have this case (I had almost the same one for my last iPod), and all the above problems occur mostly (though not entirely) while the iPod is inside. I doubt the case itself is the problem- I can't see any way it would be preventing things like reading from the HD- but they definitely seem to be tied together. Sometimes when it's in the case the controls will take several seconds to respond to button pushes (play/pause, select, etc.) but respond perfectly fine to scrolling/volume change.
I think I've pretty much exhausted my options for trying to fix things myself. Should I just send it back and hope the replacement is better? Will Apple even agree to replace it if they can't see it malfunctioning?

Also, though no one's replied yet, I remembered more problems:
    - Displaying the wrong album art (only occasionally).
    - Colors FREAKING OUT when viewing photos. The way to get rid of this seems to be to go back to the photo library, select a different photo (which hopefully loads correctly), going back up to the photo library again, and reselecting the original photo. But it's still annoying.

  • Start up issue with clicks from hard drive

My Macbook Pro 17" with Maveric does not load beyond grey apple logo during start up and has intermittent clicks sounding from hard drive. I've tried the following to resolve:
    1. Removed and reinstalled the RAM modules followed by clearing the PRAM on restart... ineffective.
    2. Restarted holding the option key. This showed my 1 year old hard drive was still available. However, selecting it resulted in the same failure at the grey apple logo.
    3. My previous Snow Leopard Recovery disc also ineffective. The eject button does no eject the disc either.
    4. Target disk mode also fails.
    5. Remote Recovery start up (command R) hangs on spinning wheel.
    Please advise.

You may have to resort to using something such as DiskWarrior or Data Rescue 3 to try an repair the drive to the point where you can recover some of your files.
I assume that you have no backups?

  • NsBlocklistservice.js being read from Bootcamp drive

while running my snow leopard, using firefox 12 it produced an error of a non-responsive script has stopped. the script is "nsBlocklistservice.js. When I searched for the script I was not able to find it on my Local Apple snow leopard drive. But when I did a complete search of my entire drive it found the nsBlocklistservice.js file on my bootcamp drive. The boot camp drive is a read only drive and the file was being read from my Apple snow leopard OS side.
Is there a way of restricting reading the boot camp drive?

Hi! It's a miracle that I found your question on this discussion because THE SAME THING IS HAPPENING TO ME. It only started today. sometimes the disks keep ejecting after making some "noise" and other times they get stuck in there and I have to restart my Powerbook G4 (15") to get it to eject. I tried to repair the disk, but it won't let me and I can't get my disk warrior to stay in to check it. Will it need repair or replacement? What does it cost? Where do I take it? I live in Albuquerque and I think a new Apple store is opening here soon...should I take it there or to Comp USA or another "authorized dealer".
I'm telling you, I have used Macs since the BEGINNING (70s!); I currently own THREE Macs and I've NEVER had this problem! This computer is only a little over a year old! yikes! Thanks for answering my questions. I appreciate it.
