Trouble with REMOTE DESKTOP

I have a home network set up with a desktop wired into my wireless router and my laptop connecting through the wireless connecton.  My desk top is XP media edition and my laptop uses Vista premium.  I can use the remote desktop either through my home network as well if I connect via the web at home using the same wireless router.  When I try to connect from work which is also wireless I get the error message explorer unable to connect.  Can anyone give me help with this.  I am assuming that I may need to make adjustments to the router at work.  Even if I disable all firewalls I get the same problem.  I am using my own laptop at work so why does it work at home and not anywhere else???
Thanks for the help!

Why are you using Internet Explorer?
Are you using the web remote desktop?
Why not use the actual app instead?
You will need to forward port 3389 to the pc you want to remote into.
You're better off setting a static ip on that pc also. That way the ip address of the pc will not change as it can if its set to dhcp.

  • Trouble with Remote Desktop Connection to work PC

Note that I am trying to log into my work PC from my mac at home. My company recently announced we could log in from home with a mac into our work PC. they can't get it to work so I thought I'd try here. We use a mobile site on Safari to obtain a network connection - it launches a program called network connection and I appear to have that network connection (although very little data is being sent and received). I am then supposed to launch a program called Remote Desktop Connection (this program was installed from steps I ran through the first time I logged in through the mobile site, it is version 1.0.3), but when I do, it will not connect and the error message is that remote connection is not enabled, network is too busy, etc). However, the guys at the support desk using PCs can log into my work computer. The only info that's mandatory to input on the Remote Desktop Connection is my work computer name. I don't think this is the issue, because if I purposefully use an incorrect name for my work computer, the error message is different, stating it can't find my (work) computer. I also installed the most recent version of Java for 10.3.x The only issues I can think of are a) this won't work with 10.3.9, although I doubt this is it as the Remote Desktop Connection program appears a few years old, OR there is some firewall issue on my mac. I doubt that this is it, as I assume the mac's firewall protections are to prevent others from remotely logging into my mac, not prevent me from using my mac to remotely log into my work PC. Also, I don't use any third party firewall or other protection stuff on my mac other than whatever comes stock. if you've read this far, thanks, and any comments appreciated! am trying to log in using my dual 1.8 g5 with 1.5g memory using 10.3.9

Are you by any chance with a major retailer? My company just did the same thing. We used to connect via a Virtual Drive connection, but they took that away and went to RDC.
I had problems at first logging in as well. It was acting as if my password was wrong, but I knew that wasn't the case. I finally typed the password in the UserName area and found the problem!
I had two special Characters followed by a capital letter. For instance !@Axxxxxxxx. When I typed the password, I would push and hold the 'shift' key for the first three letters. When typing that in the "user name" field, it showed as !2axxxxxxx. You have to release the 'shift' key and repress it for each letter.
    I hope this helps you!

  • Trouble with Remote Desktop Connection

    OS: Windows 7 professional SP1
When trying to connect to any computer, an error message pops up stating "An internal error has occurred".   There is no additional information from the error message.  When looking through the application logs (Applications\microsoft\windows\TerminalServices-ClientActiveXCore),
there is an entry corresponding to the attempt that says:
EventID 1105 - The multi-transport connection has been disconnected
    and
EventID 1026RDP ClientActiveX has been disconnected (Reason=4)
Anyone run into this, or know what the problem could be?  Thanks!

    Hi Kris_h_56,
Do we use any 3rd-party VPN software here?
"An internal error has occurred".   This error message usually occurs when some VPN client software is misconfigured on the machine. You may check this issue under safe mode, and see if the error insists.
Further, please upload the full Event Log into OneDrive, then post the shared link here.

Lucky you, it did not work for many users (which as it should be) so MS produced a new version, for ML and Mavericks.
It's in the App Store, for free.
FYI, I assume that you were attempting to post a picture, no one can see it (except maybe you) because it is on your computer rather than the forum server.

It also looks like you attempted to use Apple Remote Desktop, which does not do Windows.

  • Problem with Remote Desktop on iPad 2 and windows 8.1 pro

I downloaded the Microsoft Remote Desktop app from the App Store on my iPad 2. I typed in the IP address for my windows 8.1 pro computer on my iPad 2 in school to try connecting to my windows 8.1 pro computer at home. I'm having
a hard time doing it. Do I need a rd remote gateway to access my computer from outside my local network. If so, how do I find my gateway server name? Also, I saw somewhere that I have to press accept in a pop up message on the computer your trying to connect

  • Ipad bluetooth keyboard not working with remote desktop

My clients ipad bluetooth keyboard works any other time, just not when connected to his servers via the remote desktop. PC Windows 7 Servers.
I'm trying to get the keyboard information, but any ideas?

Are you using an app like LogMeIn Ignition to access your servers? I believe that LogMeIn Ignition requires you to tap a little keyboard button near the bottom of the screen to activate use of the keyboard (that's how it works in Splashtop Remote, can't be much different in LogMeIn Ignition.)
Are you sure the app you have supports blue tooth keyboard support with remote desktop? (not sure if they have to, I just recall seeing this in Splashtop patch notes awhile ago.)

  • Easy print not working on a 64 bit Windows 8.1 client with Remote Desktop connection version 8.1

Easy print is not working on a 64 bit Windows 8.1 client with Remote Desktop connection version 8.1 . Printers dont get redirected when you connect to the terminal server. The server we are connecting to has Windows 2008 server.  On 32 bit Windows
7 and windows XP clients Easy print is working fine and printers get redirected in terminal server.

I am having the exact same problem. Windows 7 works fine, but 8.1 will not redirect printers. Others said to check local policy terminal services settings and my setting are all set as they should.
I think Windows 8.1 is not telling the terminal server what printers it has.

  • Stuck with Remote Desktop 3 without the serial number:(

I am the new tech assistant for my lab of 35 macs..
The computer used for managing the lab with remote desktop has crashed.
I have found an older model mac with remote desktop. I'd like to transfer that application
to my newer mac...but It will ask me for the serial number of which I do not have.
The old tech assistant has gone..and along with it...the software and document.
I have turned this lab upside down and I've found the box Apple Remote Desktop 3
but nothing else. I thought maybe the serial number would be on it.  But I see
only the bar code... I am frustrated to no end. They don't answer my emails for help
    Sincerely,
Love using Apple Remote Desktop 3 user but can not anymore:(

IIRC the serial number was never on the outside of the box so have you looked inside the box? Do you see the booklet that came with the box? Is the Serial Number inside? The Serial Number takes this form:
    XARD-030-000-x-xxx-xxx-xxx-xxx-xxx-xxx-x
Who is not answering your emails for help?
Having read the terms and conditions of this forum prior to posting you'll know these are user-to-user forums and Apple are not listening, so it's difficult to see what any of us here can do to help? Perhaps if you find the purchase receipt you might be able to contact your local Apple Rep and ask if they have a record of it?
You can still use Remote Desktop by purchasing it again from the App Store. It costs far, far less than the installer media version and does not require a serial number. All you need is an Apple ID and an associated debit or credit card.

  • Troubleshooting error with Remote Desktop 3.1

Have OSX Server 10.4.10 on a powerPC with Remote Desktop 2.2, Security scans advise to update to Remote Desktop Client 3.1. Everytime I do this I get this error "The Remote Desktop Administrator software failed to start du to an unexpected error. The Remote Desktop software may not be installed correctly or the computer may require a restart."
I have two machines on this network that are giving this error, one this server and the other a laptop. Version 2.2 was running and working just fine prior to the update, now its broke. Is there a log file somewhere to try to figure this error out? Has anyone else experienced this issue? I have already tried to reset permissions, and reboot, but nothing works.

Just to confirm my understanding, you are running the ARD 2.2 Administrator on the server, and something is advising you to upgrade that system to the ARD 3.1 client? If that's the situation, then do not upgrade. The 3.x client will not work with the ARD 2.2 administrator. If you did indeed upgrade, you'll need remove ARD using the instructions here and then reinstall ARD 2.2 from your installation disks.
Similarly, if you've upgraded any client workstation to the 3.x client, you'll need to remove it and reinstall the 2.2 client using this installer. It says it's an "updater", but it will work anyway.
    Hope this helps.

  • My keyboard doesn't work when I connect to a Windows 7 computer with Remote Desktop.

I got a new computer at work that has Windows 7 Professional 64-bit on it.  I set up a Remote Desktop connection from my iMac at home and connected.  However, when I tried to use the keyboard, nothing happened.  After a little pecking I found that the DELETE key worked.  Also, I found that the keyboard would work correctly if I held down the FUNCTION key.  Very weird.
My old Windows XP computer was still connected so I connected to it via Remote Desktop.  The keyboard works normally there.  It has always worked in Windows XP so I was surprised when it didn't work in Windows 7.
I've been searching but haven't found anyone with this same issue.  Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.  Thanks.

  • Problem with remote desktop and lock screen

I know of the easy way to immediately lock a Mac's screen by clicking the menu bar lock icon from KeychainAccess. This works on every system under my control (rMBP running Mavericks, MacMini with 10.5 and Mavericks). However when I control the Macs via Remote Desktop (currently 3.7.2), that lock icon behaviour changes.
Trying to lock a 10.5 system, the screen inside the Remote Desktop window goes black immediately. Moving the mouse activates the password dialog. That is what I want. Doing the same in a remote Mavericks system, the screen goes to a dark blackish semi-transparent state. Moving the mouse immediately restores the normal desktop view, no password asked. Is this a feature or a bug in Remote Desktop? This change in behaviour must have come in around Lion or Mountain Lion.

    Hi
Do you use the Intel Proset Utility to configurate the WLan connection?
Try to configure the WLan using this tool and check if the Wlan would disconnect again.
Im also interesting what Wlan driver did you use?
Did you use one from the Intel page?
If not, check the Intel page for the newest WLan driver version.

  • Problems with Remote Desktop and Back to My Mac

It's impressive how quickly Apple removed my post because of its tone. I hope they respond with equal speed and verve to my concerns.
I need to get Remote Desktop operational. Can someone walk me through the process of getting Remote Desktop to "see" my home computer? The current online video tutorial for Remote Desktop is outdated and no longer resembles the current UI for setting up Remote Desktop.
What about Back to My Mac? Can I get help with that, too? I figure if I can get at least RD or BTMM running properly I'll be able to do what I want to do.

The subject of connecting ARD via the Internet has been covered here many times already (search the forum for "Internet"), but take a look at this web page:
    http://www.starkpr.com/ard.htm
It should help, though you may have to refer to your router's documentation for specifics on opening and forward ports in that particular unit.
"Back to my Mac" is a different feature of Mac OS X and has it's own forum:
