Trouble with ripping a DVD to .mp4 using Handbrake

I have successfully converted sevearl DVD's to .mp4 using Handbrake, but one DVD is giving me some trouble. When I play it back, the sound is only a crackling noise but the video is perfect. What can I do to fix this? Is there another program I should try?
Thanks!

One possibility is that the original audio may be PCM rather than the common AC3 now found on most US/Canadian made DVDs today. While the PCM audi is (or at least was) most commonly used on DVDs manufactured for sale in other countries, a small number of older DVDs can sometimes still be found. (I have and old copy of "Outrage" starring Antonio Banderas which was manufactured using PCM audio.) In any case, a quick check of the label should determine whether or not this is the cause of your problem which cannot be handled by any ripper/extractor software with which I am currently familiar.

If you have the original movie files, you'd be much better converting those, otherwise try MPEGstreamclip.

HELP. 3 years ago I purchased cs3. I had troubles with registering the serial number and used my university's suite instead, and (stupidly) did not sort it out. I am now wanting to subscribe to the online creative cloud with my cs3 discount. Is there any way to find / prove that I had purchased cs3 and locate a serial number? On my Adobe account it does not show my purchase of cs3 (I am guessing because of the trouble with registering my serial number). I have moved house 3 times since the purchase and am unable to locate the packaging or disk. Is there any way to prove my purchase without any serial number or showing under my Adobe account? Please help! Thanks

The CS3 discount offer is only for retail online product, it does not include education or volume license purchases. Refer to Terms and Conditions | Adobe
To check whether you had retail CS3 purchase, we need proof of purchase as well as serial number, without which the issue can not be resolved.

  • Trouble with clips from DVDs

I'm editing a project for a friend... most of the project was shot on a Sony PD150 in 16:9.  At the end of the credits he wanted to put in a very short clip from a previous movie he made as a logo.  He gave me a DVD of the film.  One problem is that the clip itself is not true widescreen... the DVD is 4:3, letterboxed down to 16:9.  If it's a smaller box in the widescreen frame that's probably okay since it's just a logo (we can probably throw in the production company name in the black areas).
The bigger problem is that when I tried to rip the DVD (using DVDx), the clip is not working properly in Premiere.  I can view the clip fine in a media player program but when imported into the project in Premiere, it's not playing properly.  Usually the image is stuck on one of the first few frames of the clip.  There are several options on DVDx that I'm not terribly familiar with, and I'm wondering if one of these options needs to be tweeked to get a clip that will play in Premiere properly.  Or perhaps there's another program that I can use to snag this clip from the DVD so that it will play in Premiere.
I seriously only need about 4 or 5 seconds of this 90 minute film but in DVDx I've had to rip the entire film (only to find out it's not working with Premiere).  Is there an easier way to snag just that clip?

If the DVD is 100% DVD-compliant (very important), then CS4.2.1 can just Import the VOB, without needing to rip it. This ARTICLE will give you some more background on VOB's. If I were doing the ripping, I would want to rip to DV-AVI Type II w/ 48KHz 16-bit PCM/WAV Audio, but I do not know if your ripping software will do that. That would be the ideal for editing (with the exception of that initial MPEG-2 compression, which is unavoidable, given your source material).
Now, and only your eyes can tell, you can take the 4:3 MPEG-2 inside the VOB and use the fixed Effect>Motion>Scale to "full up" the width of the Frame, effectively cropping off the top, the bottom, or the top & bottom. Depending on the subject matter, you could also use Interpret Footage, and tell PrPro to deal with it as 16:9 with the appropriate PAR for your Project. Look at the footage closely, as it will change in the horizontal pixels.
Starting with MPEG-2 and then probably Exporting to another MPEG-2 (for DVD-Video), is not the ideal. Two compressions will never be pretty, but might work for your purpose. Still, only you can make that determination.
Personally, I would be very tempted to just redo the credit, but that will be more work. The end result, however, will be better, and with fewer potential problems.
    Good luck,

  • Homemade movies with chapters question? I have numerous VHS movies converted to DVD and then are converting the DVDs into MP4 via HandBrake.  I am now trying to find the chapters within the converted DVDS with no luck using QuickTime 7.  Help plz.

How do I find the chapters within a Homemade DVD when it has been converted via Handbrake to MP4 and editing ready on Quicktime Player.  I want to get chapters only out of the movie that has 23 chapters so I can edit one chapter at a time. .  Found it once when it said divide into chapters (or something like this) , but can't find it again.  Thanks for the help.

How do I find the chapters within a Homemade DVD when it has been converted via Handbrake to MP4 and editing ready on Quicktime Player.
If you included the chapter information originally contained on the DVD as part of your HandBrake conversion, then it will be located in the "Text" track of your converted file. Did you actually check the "Chapters" tab in HandBrake before converting the DVD content to ensure the chapters were to be included in final export? I.e., not all HandBrake presets automatically include a "Text" (Chapter) track.

  • Trouble with Dual Layer DVD in DVD Studio Pro

I am having some trouble burning a Dual Layer DVD in DVDSP.  About 1 out 3 discs are coming out unplayable on multiple players and some are freezing during playback (starting and stopping).  I have not worked with DL DVD's before and was wondering if there is a particular brand that might be better then another or if there are some settings I may be missing in DVDSP.
I am using Memorex Dual Layer DVD+R DVD's, my project is 7.1 GB's, and I am running DVD Studio Pro 4.  Any feedback or ideas would be appreciated.

    >I am using Memorex
That's the most likely cause of the problem.  Memorex is notorious for poor quality.  Try switching to Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden (now under the JVC brand).

  • Trouble with Flash Player: Application Already In Use

    Hello,
I'm trying to install Flash Player on my Windows 8 64-bit system for Firefox. When I try to install Flash Player, the installer works fine up to the point of the bar tracking the installation progress. It gets about halfway across, and then I get a message that says Error: Application Already In Use with a green check next to it. Then the installer tells me that the installation has failed. Can anyone tell me how to fix this so I can use Flash? Thanks for the help.

    Use the Offline installer:
    http://download.macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/current/support/install_flash_player.exe <---FULL installer - works offline
    or
    http://download.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/licensing/win/install_flash_player_ 13_plugin.msi  <-- if the above link won't install
Save it. Reboot and then run it.

    Thanks.

Startup your Mac while holding down the Option key. That should prompt the Startup Manager window where you can select the startup disk then click Restart.
If the startup disk is not available from that window, you may be able to repair the disk.

  • Trouble with Macbook Air to VGA display using miniplug.

I purchased a plug that fits into the digital output and has a VGA female plug on the other end.  I have connected this with a VGA cable to a monitor.
I can see about half of the desktop (the default celestial stars picture) but no desktop Icons that display on my computer.  Is there a special setting to allow the Macbook Air to output to a VGA monitor?
    Thank you.

In the display settings you'll have to choose which monitor you want to be the primary one, the default is your MacBook Air's monitor is the default, so all the icons are visible on there and on your external monitor you can only see background or whatever windows you place there.
System Prefernces > Displays > Arangements and drag that little white rectangle on top of one of the screens to whichever monitor you want to be the "main" monitor.

  • Trouble with BC subscription box html when used in muse

Hey everyone. I have a very simple site in muse that i wanted to start building a list of subscribers from. I went to mailing list--actions-->"get subscribe box html code", then copied the code and pasted into muse. The box shows up but a lot of the other content is missing, disorganized, etc. Muse told me it was an html code issue with the box to delete it and see if my site looked right, it did. But i really need that box, otherwise I won't be building a client list. Any help would be great!

Here is a simple solution. If checked, I believe the value read is the string 'on'. However, you don't actually have to read it since just checking if the value is null or not is adequate.
    boolean createSong= request.getParameter(stateFieldName)!=null?true:false;

  • Using an animation-friendly codec for decoding DVDs to MP4

    Hi,
I have some purchased cartoon DVDs that I'd like to convert into MP4s for travel purposes etc. Using Handbrake has resulted in a lot of artifacts, and I wonder if using an animation-specific codec would give better results - not to mention smaller file sizes. Could someone advise me how to go about converting DVDs to MP4s using an animation codec? I own QT 7 Pro and iMovie. I also have Diva and Drop2DV.
NB: I am aware of the copyright restrictions on recorded media and wish to re-assure the MPAA, RIAA, FACT, PRS, FBI, CIA, CPS and South-East England Water and Sewerage Workers Union that I in no way intend to distribute, freely or otherwise, any of the backups I may make as a result of receiving information on this forum.
    Cheers,

Well say you had plain vanilla DVD content from your iDVD you made. The bitrate on the animation codec is huge, and the resulting file would likely be actually larger than from the DVD file you began with. And won't conform to MPEG-4 since it is not the MPEG-4 codec anyway.
Just use MPEG Streamclip, export to MPEG-4 and if this is for iPod press the iPod button. You need the Apple MPEG-2 component and don't forget to fix timecode errors. H264 is plenty good for this transcoding.

  • Ripping from DVDs

I'm trying to put together a reel and have been supplied with a bunch of my footage on DVD. I use Handbrake to rip to avi and figure it's best to convert to DV in Compressor before operating in FCP.
I'm encountering a problem that Compressor only sees the first few seconds of the avi files so I end up getting just a few seconds of bars. Is this an issue with my capture settings in Handbrake?
Does anyone have any suggestions as to a workflow for ripping from DVD? Should I be ripping to avi? Is Handbrake even the way to go? Should I try something else?
    Thanks,
    Stef
