Trouble with rotation Portrait-mode vs. Landscape-mode

Hi there, Maybe someone can give me advice on this, cause it's driving me a little nuts. When I take a picture with my iPhone 4S in portraitmode, when I store it on my computer, it's stored there in landscapemode. That is, the thumbnail shows the picture rotated counterclockwise in landscapemode, and so does every program (pictureviewer, photo gallery, internet explorer etc.) I use to open it. My Popcorn Hour C-200 -a mediaplayer- however is "smart enough" to show the picture in portraitmode. But here's the annoying part: when I correct this on my computer, turn the picture clockwise so it's in portraitmode, it shows correct on my computer, but now the image on my PCH C-200 is turned clockwise to landscapemode! How can I fix this? There is one picturefile from my iPhone that is correct in portraitmode, both on my computer and on my PCH C-200, but I don't know what I did differently with that one. But I now know it can be done...

  • Why is iphoto having trouble with rotating photos all of a sudden?

    i've been using iphoto for a few years. suddenly it un-rotated all of my auto-rotated photos (which screwed up all of my face tags) and now when i upload new photos, if they auto-rotate during the upload they appear in the preview of a whole event, but if i double-click to see a vertical photo, or try to do a slideshow, i get the triangle with an exclamation point in it, indicating that something's wrong with the file. is anyone else having this trouble? or have any idea what to do?
    thanks...

    I've never used the Flickr feature so don't know if that as any bearing on the problem.  if you're satisfied with the newly "fixed" library you can delete the copy of the original library that you made.
    However, since you're having problems with rotated photos you might try this and see if the new library has the rotated photos displayed correctly:
    Start over from scratch with new library
    Start over with a new library and import the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from your original library as follows:
    1.  Move the existing library folder to the desktop.
    2. Open the library package like this.
    Click to view full size
    3. Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
    4. Drag the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from the iPhoto Library on the desktop into the open iPhoto window.
    Click to view full size
    This will create a new library with the same Events as the original library but will not keep the metadata, albums, books slideshows and other projects.
    If the rotated photos display correctly in this new library then the problem lies with the orther libraries being damages somehow.  You may want to stay with the new library even though the projects, i.e. books, etc. and keywords are lost.
    If you have a lot of keywords in your current library and want to move them to the new library you can by doing this:
    1 - open the old library and select one photo.
    2 - type Command+K to brinb up the keyword pane.
    3  - click on all of the keywords that are not blue so that all of the keywords are blue.
    4 - export that photo to the Desktop via the File ➙ Export ➙ File Export menu option. Select Kind=JPEG and check the two check boxes regarding keywords, locations, etc.
    5 - open the new library with iPhoto and import the exported photo from the Desktop.  That will bring in all of the keywords so that you don't have to recereate them one by one in the new library.

  • Trouble with rotating..

    Everyone out there that is good at math.. I have a problem. I'm working on making a basic 3d engine, and I cant seem to get it to rotate about the Y axis. I need a formula like
    Xprime=X*(sin alpha) - Y*(cos alpha)
    something like that. It can obviously use Z as well as X and Y. I'm haveing extreme trouble with this.. Thanks in advance.

    I made a quick search for "rotation matrix" and found this,

    The formula you're looking for is called: Rotation about z axis is: Rz

  • Trouble with S3 Suspend Mode

    Decided to try using S3 suspend mode. Left everything else at default except I enabled USB(my mouse) as a wake-up device. I left "wake-up VGA card" to disabled thinking newer cards should do this automatically(not sure).
    Computer fell into Suspend no problem with all fans and drives off. Shouldn't the power LED blink? Mine doesn't.
    When I used my USB mouse to wake-up, the computer started a loop of 1-2 seconds of spinning/powering up followed by 3 seconds of deathly quiet   . This continued while I tried mouse and keyboard input, holding in power button, pressing reset--No Effect. Cursed a little too but that didn't help either   .
    Finally, realizing that this continuous power up/power down loop wasn't doing my new equipment any good, I switched off the power supply. Waited a minute. turned power back on. LOOP STARTED AGAIN!
    Finally pulled plug and cleared CMOS. Plugged back in and poked the power button....NOTHING!   ..... oh yeah, the PSU switch! I've done that about 10 times now!
    Anyway it works again but was wondering if anyone else had similar trouble and got the S3 suspend working. I thought I might try enabling the "wake-up VGA" signal but I need a little more time to recover from the last "heart attack".
    Comments anyone?

    STR-3?? I assume you're talking about normal OS/computer shutdown and boot-up? If so, yeah I know; I just like to tinker with all the different features and see how they work...or don't in my case.

  • Trouble with normal screen mode

    My I phone has unexpectedly entered a mode that would appear to be useful for those with either blindness or severe sight problems. The screen does not work as normal on the slide to unlock. I have to double tap to get anywhere. I managed to get to settings but the scroll up and down does not work and I can't de-activate this mode. I don't know how the phone entered this mode. Can anyone help?

  • Hr2000 firmware upgrade troubles with external triggering mode

    Hello,
    Has anyone had any problems with the latest Ocean Optics HR2000+ firmware upgrade while using external triggering mode?
    I'm using the NI-provided drivers for HR2000+ which used to work without a problem before the driver update. My program synchronizes 3 spectrometers so that they continuously acquire spectra at 1 second integration time while being triggered by a pulse generator running at 20 Hz. It used to be that the specs would trigger again only once the previous integration completed, but now the spectrometers try to trigger with each trigger and don't complete the 1 second integration. My code has not changed at all between firmware upgrades, and I expected it to work exactly the same after the upgrade. I've reinstalled all programs, inf, and sys files related to the driver as well.
    Do I have to wait for a new NI-Driver update that adjust to the new firmware update? Attached is the driver package I'm using.
    Any clues as to what I can do about this?
    Thanks,
    Mike

  • I am still having trouble with Guided Edit mode in Photoshop. It doesn't work and I have been

    careful about the size of the files that I open or work on. Initializing doesn't run and I was wondering if not down-loading Revel was effecting the editing features in Photoshop 12. I have a IMAC with Snow Leopard and Mavericks. I am [email protected] My case number is 0185190932. I have been using an Adobe book.

    What do you mean by:
    I have a IMAC with Snow Leopard and Mavericks
    Those are two entirely different versions of the mac operating system. Snow Leopard is 10.6, and Mavericks is 10.9.
    If you are really running 10.6, the specs for PSE require at least 10.7. If that's not the problem, more information, please, about just what you have and just what is going on. Incidentally, this is the user to user forum, so we have no access to any case number stuff. We're just other customers like you.

    I use to be able to rotate my iPhone and change the view of an image, Web page, email, and so on, from portrait to landscape, but after update, I cannot. I can only view in portrait mode. Anybody know what’s up with that?

    You need to do the basic troubleshooting steps described in the User Guide, Appendix B.
    Restart phone
    Reset phone
    Restore in iTunes using a backup
    Restore in iTunes as new, without using a backup
    If restoring as new doesn't help, there is a hardware failure in the phone that needs evaluation by Apple.

  • Problem with rotation and landscape mode in iOS 8

    From start of iOS 8 I have got problem with rotation in my iPhone 5S 32GB as well as in my iPad mini retina 32GB. Automatical rotation to landscape mode is not working correctly. For example if you take the phone or tablet to landscape mode in base display and tap to Safari, Mail, Messages, the app will start but stay in normal mode, not landscape. Then you have to back the phone to normal portrait mode and back to landscape and only then the phone do the landscape mode. I have never seen this problem in iOS 7 or older.
    Could you help me anyone with this problem? Or is the problem generally in iOS 8.
    Thanks a lot
    Jakub

    Brian, thanks, but it's not a rotation lock issue - at least not relating to the rotation lock setting. It's just a general use setting. Right now i have my iPhone propped in landscape mode. If I now hit the home button, essentially returning to a portrait setting though my phone is still positioned in landscape, then open any other app that supports landscape, that app WILL NOT orient itself to landscape mode. It will stay in portrait mode. The phone has to be physically oriented to portrait, then back to landscape for the app to register landscape mode properly. This is a glitch, and not a rotation lock issue. it ought to be noted that this was not an issue in iOS 7 or any previous iteration.

  • Mail and Messages freeze in landscape/portrait mode

    When in Messages and Mail, my iPhone 5 freezes in landscape or portrait mode.  I can continue to type, edit, etc. but can only get it to rotate after pressing 'Home' button or closing and re-opening app.  I am running 8.0.2.  I notice it most when taking a break for Mail or Messages and turning phone off and when I turn back on.  I'm guessing it is a bug and not a hardware problem because I can always get it to clear by just pressing home or closing app.

    Hello there, HoosierZach1979.
    Great job in coming up with a good workaround for your issue with Mail and Messages. For issues regarding iOS not functioning as expected, the following Knowledge Base article provides a great and practical list of steps for troubleshooting:
    iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    If a single application is not responding or stops responding when it opens, you can force it to close.
    If the device is unresponsive or if certain controls aren't working as expected,  restart your device.
    If the device remains unresponsive or does not turn on (or power on),  reset your device.
    If there is no video or if the screen remains black, verify that the device has enough charge to turn on:
    If you are using an iPad, ensure that it's connected to the USB Power Adapter supplied with the device.
    Let it charge for at least twenty minutes, then see if it starts normally.
    If there is no image on the screen, press the Sleep/Wake button to attempt to wake the device.
    If the screen displays a red battery icon, continue charging the device until the battery is fully charged. Learn more about charging iPhone and iPod touch, or iPad.
    If the above steps do not resolve the issue, or the if the screen remains black or shows a persistent Apple logo, try restoring with iTunes:
    Connect the device to your computer and open iTunes.
    If the device appears in iTunes, select and click Restore on the Summary pane. Learn more about restoring iOS software.
    If the device doesn't appear in iTunes, try to force the device into recovery mode, and then restore it.
    If the above steps do not resolve the issue, contact Apple.
    Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.

    Has lock rotation been accidentally enabled within the control centre? If you swipe up the screen is there a circle with a lock symbol & if so is is greyed out or white - if white it is enabled.

  • Rotating entire JFrame to simulate portrait mode

    Hi
    I need to rotate the entire jframe into portrait mode.
    I cannot use the graphics chip, or linux graphics device manger to change the rotation CW 90 degress - due to hardware design and limitation.
    So basically, I have to render the graphics myself, quite easily done with fllowing code at the the top level panel.
    protected void paintComponent(Graphics g)
    // center of rotation is center of the panel
    Graphics2D g2d =(Graphics2D)g;
    int xRot = this.getWidth() / 2;
    int yRot = this.getHeight() / 2;
    g2d.rotate(Math.toRadians(-90), xRot, yRot);
    super.paintComponent(g);
    This does the job nicely, however the screen is still using landscape co-ordinates, and hence when clicking on the swing components they are in the pre-rotation position.
    I have looked and cannot find, is there a simple way to switch a jframe into portrait mode. If not, is there a simple way to intercept the screen coordinates and translate the mouse coordinates to the appropriate JComponent?
    thanks in advance
    Steve

    I'm thinking of buying a Samsung 24" LCD panel - one of it's more interesting features (for me, at least) is the ability to rotate the panel from landscape to portrait mode - does anyone know if this feature works for sure in MacOS X?
    Dual 2GHz G5   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    It doesn't depend on the OS. It depends on the driver for the graphics card. Some Macs do allow rotation and some don't. If you see a rotation option in Display Preferences with your current video card and monitor, then your configuration supports it.
