Trouble with share/burn for part of library

Trying to use the share/burn command.  I select parts of the library I want to back up, but IPhoto thinks I want to burn the entire library and says there is insufficient space on the target DVD.  I select the year by ticking the corresponding box which turns blue.  I've done this before without difficulty.
Using iPhoto 6, OS10.6.8

Also how many photos are in the year's selection to be burned?  The resulting library that is burned will be larger than just the size of the photos selected.  It will include all edited versions, database files, and other files the library requires.  It can get over the size allotted for the disk.  For a DVD I try to limit the size of the selected photos to 4 GB or less.
Unless you plan to never upgrade to iPhoto 9 (11) or later I'd give some serious thought to what Terence has to say.  To be able to move on up the chain at some time in the future to the latest version of iPhoto and Mac I'd get an external HD formatted OS X Extended (journaled) and copy the entire library to it.  You can keep it updated with backup software that does incremental backups, i.e. copying only those new or modified file to the EHD.  Three such apps are Synk, Synk Pro and ChronoSync.

Depending on the CSS, live view and design view can be totally different.
Its often best to type in your copy in the divs and then add the CSS to format it.
Post the css and the set of divs with some content in order to enable people to try work out what is wrong.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
In the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports (not "Diagnostic and Usage Messages") for crash reports related to the crashed process. The report name starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents—again, the text, not a screenshot. I know the report is long. Please post all of it anyway.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they're very long and rarely helpful.

  • I'm having big trouble with my new mainboard: Part II

    Hi
I haven't got any more replies to my post "I'm having big trouble with my new mainboard" by Krelian 2003.09.13 at 05:25. Please help! I've been struggling with this for a LONG time. And now my computer won't boot at all! Sometimes the LED's in front of the computer lights up for half a second, and nothing more happens. The only sign of life is the green light in the LAN jack. It happened after I took the ide cable for my harddrive in and out of the mainboard. This is insane, how can that suddeny happen :O ?! I was asked by wonkanoby to post max amps for my PSU, I did, and I really need to know if I maybe need a new PSU, since he asked that. Can a new PSU solve all the problems mentioned in my previous posts? Everything was fine except that I couldn't get into Windows, before i tried another harddrive on my computer. How can that complicate things so much? I have tried going barebone, and taking out the cmos battery and setting the jumpers JBAT1, J10 and J11. I have also tried every suggestion I got. Please help! I really need to get this fixed!

Some power supplies or designed so that if there is a short or overload they shut them selfs off and some will not turn back on. Some have a relay that will click back on and work, some you have to  cycle the power switch. Those that won't come back on will have to be replaced. I'm not saying that yours is that type as I have no way of telling. But if you have a friend who will loan you a good power supply you might try it. As someone else said just turning off the power will not darn all the power from some motherboards. To test this turn off your power supply than turn on the computer with the start botton. Mine will flash the lights and fans will start to spin than die. So every time you turn off computer to work on it. After turning off PSU hit the start botton to drian any power left in it before working on it. Also do this after unplugging it just to make sure.

  • Can't create a new account at ePrintCenter - trouble with the server for 2 weeks.

Hi. I'm trying to create an account at ePrintCenter and all the time getting mesage 'Возникла проблема с сервером. Проблема будет устранена в ближайшее время. Приносим извинения за неудобства.' (A trouble with the server, wait, bla bla bla). When will it be fixed?

For those who are experiencing ongoing issues with their web services, you can attempt to try the following steps that may help resolve your problems.
1.) Completely shut down your printer and restart it
2.) If you have prints that have not printed, log into ePrint Center (or create an account if you do not have one) and then look for your printer status. If printer status is green but you still have pending jobs, delete the pending jobs one at a time (Starting with the oldest first). There may be a print job stuck in the queue that further restricts other jobs from completing.
    a. If option 1 or 2 above still doesn’t work, removing web services and re-adding web services will cause the printer to reattach to the cloud.
    b. Please note that if you attempt option 3, you will get a new eprint email address (and lose your custom one with no ability to get it back) furthermore, you will need to re-add your printer back to your ePC account.

  • Trouble with database connector for FAST for Sharepoint

I have plenty of experience with the JDBC connector for FAST ESP using Oracle, but this is the first experience I have with the same connector for FAST for Sharepoint (F4SP).  I've created the XML config exactly to specs based on the technet guides
and configured my user accounts on the SQL Server appropriately.  I'm using SQL Server 2008 R2.
If I try to use a Windows account, no level of access granted on the SQL Server results in a successful login.  Any attempt to use the connector is met with "Login failed for user:  domain\username".  If I try a SQL Server account, I no longer
see a login failure, but this instead:
    PS C:\FASTSearch\bin> jdbcconnector start -f ..\etc\DTtest.xml

14:45:00,620 INFO  [JDBCConnector] Connection made to target system
TCP/IP is certainly enabled for SQL Server -- I am connecting to it with Sharepoint 2010, not to mention a test install of Toad Freeware for SQL Server from another machine, resulting in no errors.  My connection string, username and password are all
set up according to the technet guide, including the encrypted password set by the encryption utility run the in F4SP Powershell.  The same user who runs the connector also ran the encryption tool, so that should not be a problem either.
I've never had this kind of trouble connecting to Oracle databases with the JDBC connector for FAST ESP.  Any suggestions?  These failures aren't exactly helpful to me.  Thanks in advance.

I found the solution to this problem in case anyone else was still curious.
This was caused not by JDBC settings, permissions/access on SQL Server, etc.  It was caused simply by a missing SQL Server in F4SP configuration.  When you run the F4SP config wizard, either as single-node or multi-node installations, the wizard
might end up ignoring the value you select for SQL Server, even if you are using a deployment XML file.  When configuring as a multi-node setup, the wizard ignored both my deployment XML tag <connector-databaseconnectionstring> and the SQL Server
setting done manually in the wizard itself.  Examing the evidence, I suspect this was caused by corrupt installation media (since the installer also failed to create some core files in /etc upon doing a reinstall).
The bottom line is that you must see a value for SQL Server in your install_info.txt file in order for the JDBC connector to work with SQL Server, like this:
    Other services
    Log Server:             myserver.mydomain.com:13415
    SQL Server database:    jdbc:sqlserver://myserver.mydomain.com;DatabaseName=FASTSearchAdminDatabase;integratedSecurity=true
If you see this instead, the connector will never work:
So, the JDBC connector is certainly dependent on the main configuration of F4SP, regardless of what SQL Server is targeted in your connector's XML configuration.
    Other services
    Log Server:             myserver.mydomain.com:13415
    SQL Server database:
    ;integratedSecurity=true
I had no idea there was a connection between my install_info setup and the use of the JDBC connector.  But, the connection makes sense considering this was the error message from the JDBC connector:
09:20:04,016 ERROR [JDBCConnector] Caused by: No suitable driver found for ;integratedSecurity=true

  • Sorry still in trouble with corrupt drivers for Win 7 ....

Hi i have an early 2011 Mac Book Pro. I installed Win 7 (using boot camp) and Win 7 just about works OK, but of course it is missing the correct drivers, which i thought were available from the Mac OS X disc, obviously not from the Mac Application drivers disc.
So then i asked the question on the Forum, where it was suggested because i have a fairly recent Mac Book Pro i should download and burn to Disc the correct drivers by running Boot Camp. When this is done simply run the SETEUP.EXE file in Windows 7 and it will all be sorted !.
Sadly it doesn't and isn't, i run the SETUP.EXE file and i am presented with two options ....
    1. Remote Install Mac OS X
    2. DVD or CD Sharing
i do believe according to the instructions i have read elsewhere there should be 3 options, the first option should be ... Install MAC drivers for Windows 7 !!!!
So please can someone help me out here ?.
    Tim

It shouldn't require pounding the answer over and over. it shouldn't even require using OS X DVDs. Or typing the same answer on the keyboard multiple threads and times. It SHOULD either just be an independent download, or "FIX" whatever that 10.6.6+ 'featue" in Boot Camp Assistant. An additional chapter in the Boot Camp for Windows install PDF Guide.
the troubles are not with Windows my dear Dr Watson at all, no sir. They are in the guide, self-inflicted, left out of the guide, lack of reading the guide, and there are 100s of articles that belong under and in the Apple Support product page for Boot Camp (and weed out the stuff that is old, and have a link to sub-category if needed, and a "NEW Support Articles" addition. Which of course only .001% check to see.
Like this tidbit from a week ago:
Resolving issues with Windows when using Apple Magic Mouse or Apple Wireless Keyboard
    Belong listed -
    Apple Support Boot Camp
And having all "knowledge" base articles on everything made that harder to wade through than before it ballooned to take in all the devices and products (not just "mac"). Which you or I would almost have to check a couple times a week.

  • Trouble with display settings for projector/Reactable

    Hi,
I'm trying to install a musical hardware interface called the Reactable for use with my iMac, and I'm having trouble getting the correct display settings. It's designed to work with laptops and it works fine for the most part with my Apple Hackintosh, but I can't seem to get it working correctly with my iMac. The tech support from the Reactable company recommends that I use 1600x1200 resolution or 1024x768 (native) on the projector, but when I open my display settings I am not presented with either of those options. It only permits me to use 1024x768 and 1024x768 (stretched).
The only instance in which I can get the projection to cover the whole table is with 1024x768, but then the projection is too large. Do I need to change the scaling somehow? How do I do that?
    Thanks,
    Justin

1080p.    If you have a Mac Mini with an HDMI connector, connect direct through there.
Otherwise you'll need to look at either: Which Macs don't have audio over mini-Displayport connectivity, need either an
Apogee DVI To HDMI Converter / SPDIF Optical Toslink+Coaxial Input Output if you have a mini-DVI or DVI (The left connector is DVI, and the right connector is mini-DVI) connector and it is Intel.
    Kanex iAdapt Displayport adaptor if you have a mini-Displayport ( http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/4/47/Mini_DisplayPort_on_App le_MacBook.jpg/300px-Mini_DisplayPort_on_Apple_MacBook.jpg
    ) connector.
Note, thunderbolt connectors look the same as mini-Displayport except they have the lightning icon symbol.
PowerPC Mac Minis, need a StarTech DVI2HDMIA connector together with an RCA minijack to red and white splitter cable.

  • Trouble with custom kernel for EeePC 1000H and bluetooth

I believe I've got pretty much everything working on my 1000H except for bluetooth. I can't seem to get the hardware working. The module is loaded, and dmesg has references to bluetooth, but blueman does not list the adapter, and running "hcitool scan" from the command line returns "Device is not available: No such device".
I've enabled every bluetooth-related item I can find in the kernel, so I don't see what I'm missing. I did import the config from the stock kernel, where bluetooth was working fine.

  • Deleting Virtual Copies From Library, Burning Collections & Part of Library

Hello! I am new to this software; I have LR 2.0
From the library, I selected/highlighted the photos that I wanted to put into a new collection, then clicked the plus symbol above "Collections." I was then asked if, when putting the selected photos into that collection, I wanted to make a virtual copy in the library. I wasn't exactly sure what this meant, so I checked the box. Now, obviously, I have duplicates of all of my selected photos in my library. My collections folder turned out just how I wanted. However, I would prefer not to have a cluttered library. Is there a way to delete the virtual copies without removing them from my collection?
Also, I plan on burning a disc for a client. I want to include the entire photoshoot (what's in the library) but I would also like to have a sub-folder on the CDROM of my selected favorites/best (which remain in the collection.) How can I do this? Do I export the collection folder separately?
    Thank you!

  • Trouble with creating subdomains for .local address

I'm a web developer on Mac OS X 10.5.6 and I use my MacBook Pro as my primary development and testing machine. I have Apache 2 running and Entropy PHP 5.2.4. All of that works fine. In the past, I didn't use virtual hosts. Instead, I would divide my projects into subfolders of /Library/WebServer/Documents
One day, I wised up and created virtual hosts by adding the appropriate entries to /etc/apache2/extra/httpd-vhosts.conf and by adding a few corresponding hostnames to /etc/hosts.
In the hosts files, I "created" subdomains for each site. For example: If I was working on a site for Dairy Queen, I might add the following line to /etc/hosts:
    127.0.0.1 dq.local
Then I would add the virtual host to /etc/apache2/extra/http-vhosts.conf and it would look something like the following:
    <VirtualHost *:80>
    ServerAdmin [email protected]
    DocumentRoot "/Library/WebServer/DairyQueen/Documents"
    ServerName dq.local
    <Directory "/Library/WebServer/DairyQueen/Documents">
    Options FollowSymLinks MultiViews
    AllowOverride All
    Order allow,deny
    Allow from all
    </Directory>
    </VirtualHost>
I've been setup in the above way for many months and it all works great. On my computer, I can enter dq.local in my browser and it pops right up.
I've even modified the hosts file in my Parallels Virtual machines running Windows. And from any browser in any of my Virtual machines, I can reach my various .local domains hosted by Mac OS X.
*The Problem:* If I want to browse the site from another computer on my local network (or my iPhone), they will not find my MacBook Pro in the .local domain without editing the /etc/hosts files on those devices -- which is a nightmare scenario because A) I can easily edit the /etc/hosts file on the iPhone, B) It's inconvenient to have to edit /etc/hosts files on the myriad of devices, and C) I would have to have my laptop set to a static IP -- something I could easily accomplish, but it's just not as clean of a solution as I'm looking for.
I realized that when using Bonjour, my MacBook Pro shows up to other computers as "Christophers-MacBook-Pro.local". I thought, hmmm ... maybe I could utilize that by dividing it into subdomains. For example, I would modify the vhosts file setting the new domain name to dq.christophers-macbook-pro.local, I would modify my own /etc/hosts file to say:
    127.0.0.1 dc.christophers-macbook-pro.local
... and Voila! I'd be done, right? Nope!
Of course on the MacBook Pro that's hosting the sites, I can browse to dq.christophers-macbook-pro.local, and it works fine just like it did when it was dq.local.
On a PowerBook G4 (running a freshly installed and clean 10.5.6), going to dq.christophers-macbook-pro.local results in the wrong site from coming up. What!?
Note that when I go to just "christophers-macbook-pro.local" on the iPhone and the PowerBook, the correct site comes up -- from the MacBook Pro.
Turns out, my xServe running Leopard Server is responding to the request and serving up my photo gallery site on both the PowerBook and the iPhone!
I do have DNS running on the server. The other computers are connected wirelessly and via DHCP from an Airport Extreme Base Station that IS NOT getting DNS from the server, rather it's getting DNS from Comcast. The notbooks and the iPhone are getting DNS from the Base Station.
When I stop the DNS service on my xServe, there's no effect -- the web response is still coming from the server. (Yes, I flushed the DNS cache on the PowerBook just to be sure). I checked the virtual hosts on the server and none of them is configured with a wildcard as an alias. The photo site IS the first entry in the sites list -- the first virtual host.
So, how do I break my MacBook Pro's .local domain into subdomains? What am I missing?

    HI,
That's about 6 miles over my head but I can suggest that you post in the Apple Mac OS Technologies forum:

  • Trouble with shares and access to sub folders

We're attempting to replicate our Netware configuration to a new MacOS 10.4.6 server. On Netware we where able to create a share that was available to all users, however the folders they saw within the share where governed by their access rights within the tree. For example, take the following structure:
    Data --+-- Folder1
    |
    +-- Folder2
Rights for Folder1 where assigned to Group1 and rights to Folder2 to Group2. All users in Group1 and Group2 could then mount the drive and see the folders that they where a member of.
We have attempted to replicate this on MacOS as follows:
    Data --+-- Folder1 (ACL Group1 = Read/Write)
    |
    +-- Folder2 (ACL Group2 = Read/Write)
However, when you mount Data on Mac or Windows it says you have no access rights and won't let you dig down to Folder1 or Folder2. Is there something I'm missing?

If all users in Group 1 and Group2 have access to
the root Data folder then that permission will
propogate down the tree and they will have read
access to each of the sub folders. If folders within
suddenly gain everyone RW access then they will be
able to open and see the folder.
Thanks, I've solved the problem. I needed all users to have access to the root of the 'volume' but for that not to propogate down the tree. I've found the inheritence settings and that I think has solved the problems.
You can control this by propagating permissions
downward from the top level folder. Do this:
Create a group for everyone who accesses Data called
    DataGroup.
Add DataGroup to the group list for everyone. (You
can mass select Users and add the group to everyone
    who needs it at once.)
Change the Unix group owner of the Data folder to
    DataGroup and set these permissions:
Owner: admin RW, Group: DataGroup R, Everyone: None
Open Data and set Folder1 privileges to:
Owner: admin RW, Group: Group1 RW, Everyone: None
and propagate these settings to the subfolders. Be
sure to propagate Group Ownership and Group
    Permissions and Everyone permissions.
NOTE: This is the traditional *nix way - with ACLs
you can do this and then fine-grain the control using
the ACL granting Group 1 Full Control and propagating
    that.
Now set Folder2 to Group2 etc.
This allows you access to Data (versus using staff or
some generic Unix group but those will work too) but
allows you to control who has access to the
subfolders. In this case membership in DataGroup only
grants you access to see the folders - it doesn't
even guarantee access to any of the subfolders.
If you want nested folders within Folder1 or Folder2
you can do the same thing - create a folder owned by
a specific user and set Group Read access to none and
propagate that through the subtree. Just be aware
that propagations that happen above that folder can
reverse the settings. Always set large and then get
specific. New Users are granted access to Data by
adding DataGroup and users access to folders are
granted or revoked by adding or removing the Group1,
    Group2 etc settings.
I think that once you get it set how you want and try
it you'll find that the Data folder is redundant and
is giving you unnecessary conceptual problems. If you
make the Folder1, Folder2 etc shares then after a
user authenticates they will see only the folders
they have permission to access. If I am in Group1 and
I authenticate my selection of folders will only be
folders accessible by Group1 - I will never even see
Folder2. By grouping them in Data you are adding a
layer of permissions that is probably not needed. But
everyone has their own organizational system and
sometimes it's easier to leave users with what their
used to using. (I have users that still mount Users
and navigate to their own folder even though their
user folder shows up at the login level simply
because that's the way they've always done it.)
No there are good reasons to share the Data folder and not the children below. For example, if you are on Windows clients and you wish to map the share to a drive letter you will have no way of doing this if you don't have the containing folder.
Yes, I understand with ACLs (or at least I think I
do and have setup a system that works). The problem
is that new folders get Everyone Read access. Which
ruins the effective permissions for that folder. I
need a way of making the default posix permissions
    O=RW,G=None,Everyone=None.
We have a lot of folders to deal with Folder 1 and
Folder 2 are only examples. We have about 15 or more
folders with sub folders that have differing access
rights. All this we have sorted out except the
default POSIX permissions for new folders/files.
You can change Umask default privilege settings but
    DON'T. Well, DON'T unless you're a *nix guru. It
changes the default for all created files - including
those created by the system and this can lead to
    serious problems down the road.
I don't want a whole system default change to umask I want one that works only for people connected via AFP, you would think that would be possible. Similarly I want one for SMB access also.
If you get this working you will see that despite the
POSIX settings the ACLs are working. If you really
need your Unix permissions to be set a certain way
chuck ACLs and set "Inherit from Parent Folder" in
AFP and SAMBA. With ACLs on the system will only do
    POSIX settings.
In the windows world you either use POSIX or ACLs in the mac world you use a combination of both. That can be an asset but it can also be a major problem. If only you could use the inherit setting for POSIX when ACLs where enabled it would solve all these worries.
Thanks for your time on this.

  • Trouble with "Share This" snippet

I am having strange problems with my HTML snippets for "Share This". I am working in iWeb 09, and have just created this (my first iWeb) site. Also, I am publishing to FTP - not Mobileme.
It works fine on several of my pages, but on others it moves over text and/or does not work at all after publishing.
I have added the "twit this" snippet to every page and it works perfectly. I don't understand why some are working and other are not.
    Any suggestions?

I have BTMM enabled on all machines that I wish to be able to connect to and i have the enabled the same user on each machine, i.e. I am logged in to Machine 1 with user = 'user1' with password = 'user1pw'.
I also have enable 'user1' on Machine 2.

  • Trouble with signing up for new service.

Hello, I have a problem that I hope you can help with. Tuesday I went online to see if I qualified for your service with no deposit(I did). Unfortunately, I never saw a confirmation notice of approval and I went a few steps too far and actually purchased the phones from you. This wasn't what I intended and I called to cancel. That went ok, but the items had already shipped. I was informed by customer service to just refuse the items and Fedex will send the phone package back.
Wednesday, I never got the shipment and called Fedex to find out why. Apparently you had requested it get returned and that is what they are doing. As of last night it was en route back to you.
Thinking everything with that was taken care of, I decided to still sign up for Verizon Wireless, but wanted to go through Best Buy for the Gold and Blue Galaxy s5's. When I get there I am informed that I already have an account, yet there is no phone number associated with it. So the Best Buy rep has no idea how to proceed, as they cannot set up new service since it appears I already have an account. Nor could they do a work around and upgrade as I had no number.
While I was at the store I tried calling customer service and they were very rude and said they had to have the phones that I ordered back on their way to them. I said they were and told them that I could look on the fedex site and see that they were en route. But the customer service rep was unwilling to help any further.
I was wanting to move over to Verizon as I've heard the service and support was much better than ATT. But I am pretty tired of this mess. I am reaching out to you via facebook and this forum to see what my options are. I was wanting to get these phones by this weekend as the specials that Best Buy were offering may go away.
Please let me know what can be done.

    nightinffale78-
Help has arrived! First I do want to apologize for the experience you had to go through while talking to one of our reps over the phone. That is not the way we do business and reassure you we are not trained that way. I want to make sure you are able to sign up for service and become part of the Verizon Wireless family. To add the new lines of service we would have to talk to our Telesales department at 800-256-4646 have you has the opportunity to give them a call? Please send me a Private Message to see other options we might have to get these phones out. I just followed you, please accept and follow back to send me a Private Message.
