What format/encoding/bitrate is the music from the CDs?
Select a representative sample and click File>Get Info>Summary.
Your shuffle plays the following formats (note the absence of Apple Lossless and AIFF...):
MP3 (8 to 320 Kbps),
MP3 VBR,
AAC (8 to 320 Kbps),
Protected AAC (from iTunes Music Store, M4A, M4B, M4P), Audible (formats 2, 3, and 4) and
WAV

  • Big troubles with FTP upload since upgrade to leopard

    Hello out there,
I made an upgrade from tiger to leopard 3 weeks ago (10.5.7) on my iMac (Intel - early 2006). Since this time I Have big troubles with ftp upload.
I'm using Cyberduck as FTP client and it worked very well before but since the upgrade it starts quick and falls down to a view kb after a view seconds. Sometimes it stops completely.
Target Server is checked and working well. Also the ISP is fine (tested with a windows machine).
As it is important for my business (photographer) I would appreciate if somebody can give me a quick hint how to solve this problem.
    Thanks in advance

I am also experiencing this problem, but only (so far) with one hosting company of the many I FTP into (web designer). The symptoms are exactly as reported above. Files initially start uploading fine, then slow to a crawl and stall. This is the same regardless of FTP software. Error reports say the server is not responding.
This problem is the same using my daughter's computer (also running 10.5.7), but my son (being my son) hasn't updated his OS since 10.5.5 and I encounter NO problems whatsoever FTPing from his machine, nor from a PC.
It's only the uploads that seem to cause a problem. Communicating with the server to download, rename, move or delete files presents no issues.
(In trying to track down where the problem was, I also discovered that the traceroute command to any site on both 10.5.5 and 10.5.7 stalls at the modem, though pings work fine as does tracert from the PC.)

  • Trouble with 2 OS CDs

I am having trouble with my mac. I am currently running OS 9.2.2 (Updated from 9.2.1) which was made possible by my Mac OS 9.1 CD that i got a few weeks ago. I also have an Ubuntu "Edgy Eft" CD and a Mac OS X 10.4.1 DVD. Mac OS 10.4.1 however does not boot - it' will be either, the boot freezes (Apple screen with gear spins, but nothing happens) or the installation will crash at about 10% otherwise, the DVD shuts off the system. The problem with ubuntu is that the wiggly bar stays, then the screen goes black and does nothing. Now for Mac OS 9.1. The CD Boots fine, and it does'nt crash - even the installation is fine. I have typed this with OS 9.2.2
So, could i get a hand, please?
    Thank You.

Hi and this is a B&W like your avatar?
    Hmm interesting.
I tried the Ubuntu 6.1 install for PPC desktop version on my G3 B&W using a Pioneer DVR-106D and it did run and install albeit it too forever to boot. Only difference is that my G3 has the Sonnet G4 500 MHZ zif upgrade in it which may or may not be important.
I tried using the exact same installation disk on my G3 AIO which has a G3 450 MHZ cpu from the above Mac and it's original CD drive. Mac will not boot..... so could be something with this distro not being compatible with a G3 even though it says it is....
Could also still be the DVD although I found it on OWC's website and they claim G3 compatibility though there was a footnote about it not supporting DVD player.
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Pioneer/DVR116D/
You got me stumped on the Mac OS disks unless these are copies and not originals as I have seen folks with copies having install issues....

  • Trouble with Arvato upload

I bought my new HP Pavilion back on 7/3/2009 - as soon as I got it up and running I applied for the windows 7 upgrade.
It all went well, I had my proof of purchase uploaded to Arvato and was waiting to see when the order would get finalized.
I would check the order status from time to time, and it always showed "New" until one day about 2 weeks ago I checked and it showed "Rejected"
I sent Arvato an e-mail asking the reason for this and was told -
"We apologize for the inconvnience upon the cancellation of your order. Please send us the information below and we will place the order in your accout. The reason that the order is been canceled is they over looked the account regarding to your invoice. kindly send the information listed below and we will place the order for you.
Once again we apologize for this matter and we are looking forward to straight things out for you: "
    They over looked?
Okay - I'll upload my proof of purchase again- that should do it right?  Wrong!
Here is what I kept seeing day after day - Server Error in '/north_america/EndCustomer' Application.
I tried telling them (Arvato) there was a problem with their server. They just kept sending back the same replies about how sorry they were.
One of my favorite replies is this one -  If you are having a little trouble uploading it, please just visit the website where you placed your order and hit the view your order tab and key in the mandatory fields. Afterwards, just hit the upload button and it's all set. You will just have to wait for another e-mail confirmation regarding your sent proof of purchase.
    Doh!
I do believe Arvato has finally discovered that there is indeed a problem at their end, with their server, because now instead of seeing Server Error in '/north_america/EndCustomer' Application, I'm seeing that the system is undergoing "Scheduled Maintenance" and that's been going on since 8/13/2009.
I have also notified Microsoft about this.
Experience: that most brutal of teachers. But you learn, my God do you learn.
    (C. S. Lewis)

I checked to see if I could upload my proof of purchase again - no-  the site is still undergoing "Scheduled Maintenance"  5th day for that.
Is anyone else having this problem?
Arvato stopped replying to e-mail's has anyone else had that happen?
Is there any where else to go to get help?

  • Trouble with burning only CDs

    I'm confused.
Do brand new unused CD-R disks deteriorate over time? Or do I have a faulty Optical Drive?
I don't burn discs often so I'm no expert.  I've got a stack of CD-Rs (around 50 I think) that I have gradually been working through over several years.  I'm getting towards the bottom of the stack until now I'm looking at the last 6 or 7 blank discs of that stack.
I keep trying to use these discs but my iMac won't even boot them onto my desktop.  To eject them I have to restart my iMac and force them to eject by holding down the left mouse button while the iMac starts up. Disk Utility can't see them.  Up until recently my CD-Rs have worked fine.  In fact it wasn't until I wanted to update my Disk Warrior (DW) CD that a problem began to appear.
I tried to update DW.  All appeared fine.  I used the newly burned DW Update in my iMac.  DW got part way into loading (most of the way in fact) and then froze. I've been using DW and it occassional updates for many years and this was the first time that I had used an Alsoft Update CD and have it fail to boot up. So I binned it and tried again assuming the CD-R was a duffer.  So I burned another copy, tried it in my iMac and it worked fine.
So I had two DW discs. One duff, one okay.
My Dad had a problem with his iMac.  I used the duff disc (just curious, you know). Somehow it now worked fine!
Lately I can't get any of my remaining CD-Rs to appear on the desktop and I have to restart, holding down the left mouse key, to get then to eject.
I bought some CD-RWs.  These worked fine for a while.  So I inferred that the original CD-Rs had degraded to unusability somehow and thought no more about  it.
    Until today.
I was in a hurry to burn some documents to a CD-RW but the process failed on the verification stage. Could reading be a problem but burning be okay I wonder?
All discs work fine on my daughters MBP I noticed.
I now find that only blank CDs appear on the desktop.  Some commercial CDs and ones with home made content get spat out again after the drive spend a minute or two making chugging noises.  Then again other such CDs work fine or work okay the next day.  DVDs don't seem to be affected - mostly. Hybrid SACDs work one day, not the next.
Most confusing, but the trouble I get burning anything reliably makes me think the drive itself could be on its way out.  There are no software settings that I have touched let alone think of.
I wonder, is there any software available that I can use to test the device out?   The Internal optical drive is an OPTIARC DVD RW AD-5630A.

I tried a different brand of disk, but it only copied up to half way through song 9 and not finishing the rest, and gives me the same message. can anybody help?

  • HT1848 Having trouble with transferring puchases

iPod (5th generation) running firmware version 1.3
    iTunes 11.0.1.12
Microsoft Windows 7 x64 Home Premium Edition (Build 7600)
I have a new computer, I just installed ITunes, then plugged in my IPod.  I did FILE, DEVICES, Transfer Purchases from my ipod,
I receive the message "Some of the purchased items on the IPod including (name of songs) could not be transferred to your iTunes library because you
    are not authorized for them"
When I choose Authorize, the enter apple id and password is displayed, it has my daughters Apple ID.  She no longer uses my new computer, but at one time used
my previous computer.  I do not want these songs on my iPod anyway, not sure how our libraries got mixed together.
What should be my next step?
I can only choose transfer purchases, the other options under device, Sync, Backup, restore, are grayed out as selections.

I choose cancel on the authorize the computer (with my daughters id in it).
When I select File, Devices, the only option available is to transfer purchases. The sync, backup and restore options are all grayed out.

  • CS3-Trouble with Transferred Trimmed Project

    Hello...
New problem; have not been able to find answer.
I need to cut a 20 minute SD video down to 10 minutes to share at a retreat for documentary filmmakers. The last interation of the video was on my editor's machine. Saved a trimmed project without previews to an external drive and then transferred the project to my computer.
The problem is that when I do changes, the renders are glacial. I timed one...2.5 minutes for 50 frames...and there was nothing fancy going on. When I save the project and reopen it, it shows rendering is needed again...some areas required rendering which were not changed.
Premiere seems to handle other projects ok. Crazy making...there is obviously something I do not understand about working with trimmed projects. My editor has a much newer and more powerful computer, but is running CS3 as well. (Running Win7.)
The computer is long in the tooth...but has always been fine in the past...and is fine with other projects. What's up? I know I need a new computer but this one should be able to handle this.
    Thanks in advance!

Thank you for that info. Sounds like things should work just fine.
The "lost Renders" often happens when one is using an external HDD to edit to/from, or a networked drive, but this does not seem to be your issue.
When I archive a Project (usually TO and external HDD), I will test that Project, prior to moving on. I have yet to encounter any issues, so long as my Assets are in the Project's folder hierarchy. I have run into issues, with Assets not being gathered, when the Assets are spread about. I encountered this with some SmartSound files, that were in a separate folder, since they were being used in about 22 separate Projects for that client. I learned to Copy those into the Project's folder structure, into Music sub-folders, even if that meant having 22 Copies on my system. That has been the ONLY issue, that I have had with archived Projects, using Project Manager, but do have to admit that other than my initial test, I have not revisited many over the years. Do not have any idea why the Render files are causing an issue, and also why the Projects are slowing down, as they are.
Hope that others will see what I am missing, and will have tips for you.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Having trouble with transfering music in Vista

Never had any of these issues in XP. At first, I thought it had to do with Anapod but I'm experiencing the same on Itunes...
    1. The player will disconnect/reconnect in mid transfer slowing down the transfer
    2. If I send more than just a couple of files to the ipod, it will lock up the program (either Itunes or Anapod) and forces me to disconnect the ipod while still mounted (or shut down entirely)
    3. With Anapod, if it locks up, I will not be able to shutdown my pc properly. I end up having to even refresh the software on the ipod (like reformatting) just to get it working again in Itunes or in Anapod

I've been having this same problem on Vista for a few months now. It appears that only specific songs can't update (i.e. iTunes and iPod freeze on specific songs; however, these songs play back just fine in itunes. As well, when the album artwork is removed, the ID3 tag is changed, the songname is changed, etc. nothing gets better. I get the distinct impression that there is nothing wrong with these songs as they synced perfectly fine when run in XP...as soon as vista was installed, the syncing came to a halt. I've been looking for a solution for so long (I even replaced my iPod) and I feel the only solution now is to wait for a firmware update that somehow resolves this issue (as newer versions of iTunes don't seem to do much about it and the problem persists in Anapod Explorer for me as well, I assume that it is a firmware issue).

  • Trouble with transfering old songs/videos onto new computer

Not long ago my computer got a virus and I needed to reconfigure it and what not. As I finished, I installed itunes and purchased quite a few videos and songs that are now in my library. My question is, how can I transfer the songs and videos on my ipod into my current itunes library without deleting the purchased items already in my library. So that when im done i will have the same songs on my ipod in my library, so then my ipod will be completely sync'd with the library and i will still have the new purchased items too. Thank you in advance for your feedback and support!
    Alienware (Area 51)   Windows 2000

Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    TuneJack Windows Only
    iPod2PC Windows Only
    iGadget Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only
    iRepo Windows Only
    iPodRip Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac and Windows Versions
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows or a Mac. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • Trouble with transferring iTunes from old computer to new computer.

I have tried twice; once using the iPod and once using an external storage hard drive to transfer my music.
The libray comes over but not the playlists. Worst problem is that now the music "skips" as though it was on a old fashioned record player! Yikes, can anyone help? What have I done wrong?
Equipment specs: old computer = Compac Evo N1020v with Windows XP Professional
new computer = Dell 1505 with Windows XP Media Center Edition 2004
    Compac & Dell   Windows XP

You may/must have had music files stored outside of your iTunes library.
I'd recommend going to the Finder and then via the search box look for files with mp3 aif m4a aac etc. depending on the music format your digital music had. With the list of files shown you should be able to learn which files were stored outside of your music > itunes folder
Chances are they could be burried somewhere under your documents, downloads, desktop, ... we all have different storage and organization habits.
Then when you find the missing files, on the new computer you can do add to library and go to the folder on the other computer where the missing files are - if your systems are networked - or sneak them over using a USB thumb drive or portable hard drive if you have lots of files, or if you like to have an extra backup of that music, copy to optical disc.

  • Zen micro 6gb trouble with transfering music to the player pls h

I bought on ebay. It's used i download the cd installation. Tried to transfer with media explorer and windows media player, it wont work. The player seems "locked" when ever its connected it wont show the music inside of it, just displays the folders. I cant create, delete, add music whatsoever it keeps saying i/o error folder is exited or removed, and when i try to transfer it says pending for a long time and failed right after. Pls if any can help it would be really appreciated. thx in advance.

Can you flash it with firmware / have you tried that?If a firmware flash works, then try formatting the player. There's plenty of posts about how to do both of these tasks. When that's done, try loading some music. If it still give problems, something serious is wrong. Don't want to sound pesimistic but if it's used and you got it on E-Bay, you could have bought a dud. I've never usedEBay before so forgive me when I ask if you have any sort of comeback - e.g 4 day return period or something. Best of luck

  • Trouble with transferring Photos from iPhone to MacBook...

Hi. I might be missing something really basic here but can someone tell me what exact steps need to be taken so that photos taken on my iPad/iPhone, will automatically appear on my MacBook. Thanks!

Assuming that you are referring to the photo stream feature of iCloud, then photo stream needs to be turned on in the iCloud settings on both devices (system preferences on the Mac). In addition to this, you need the most recent version of iPhoto, along with the iPhoto photo stream plug-in, all of which should be available via software update, assuming that you already have iPhoto 9 or better.

  • Trouble with the Upload Document step

Hello. Runnig IPCC 403. We are attempting to write a script that will read/write a file stored in the repository. We would like to use the repository and not the disk since we have an HA config.
In the script that writes the file, we are able to write to disk using the Write Document step but we are not able to upload this document or the same document located in memory to the repository.
We are attempting to use the Get user and Authenticate User Password steps prior to the Upload Document step. The auth steps completes successfully as far as we can tell. The Upload Document step does not result in script errors but completes unsuccessfully when running interactive debug. No files are created in the respository.
The script is attached. Any inout would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Eddie

No. Create File Document is not your answer because it will not load it to the repository.
The answer to your issue is you need to user ipccuser in your authenticate step and not "ipccadmin. The Authenticate User step requires a variable of type "user". Try that. i had the same issue today and it worked after i used the varible of type "user" instead of the string that has the username.
