Trouble with trial Indesign

I am trying to download the trial Indesign CS6, and it wont open the program once it has been downloaded. I currently have CS2 on my computer...do I need to uninstall my CS2 before Indesign CS6 will work?

Shan_Ry do you receive a specific error message when you try to install InDesign CS6?  Which operating system are you using?  Finally Creative Suite 2 should not interfer with installing InDesign CS6.
You may also want to review the system requirements for InDesign CS6 to ensure that you meet or exceed the required system requirements.  You can find the system requirements for InDesign at http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/system-requirements-indesign.html.

  • Trouble With Opening InDesign and now Photoshop and Illustrator

First off I apologize if this isn't in the correct section. I couldn't find a section specific to my problem since it involves multiple aspects of Adobe products. I was having trouble with InDesign, it kept crashing. So I followed all of the advice I could find on the forums about deleting the preferences and cache information in the Library folder, and that didn't seem to make a difference. So then I thought maybe it needed an update, so I logged into Adobe Application Manager and sure enough, it did. So I clicked on "download" and it stalled there too. Then the manager became unresponsive. I couldn't cancel the update or log out or anything. So then I saw in the forum someone suggested the Adobe Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool if your manager becomes unresponsive. I ran that and then shut my computer off. When I turned it back on, InDesign started working BUT my Photoshop is completely gone from my system (I never messed with it in the first place since I wasn't having any trouble with it.) And the when I tried to click on Illustrator it said "Do you want to begin your trial?" Huh?
I have had a subscription since 2012, why on earth would it suddenly think that I no longer should have access to these programs? If I log on to my Adobe account it shows my subscription and that it's up to date (last payment was April 5, 2015). The versions I was using were the CS versions that I had downloaded directly from Adobe and when I used to have any trouble or when I got a different computer I could just log into my account and then redownload them. They are no longer showing under my products, so I can't figure out what on earth is going on. The website has changed since the last time I downloaded them, so that partly could be me, but I thought they would at least be showing up under products. I contacted Adobe support and the first person I talked to on chat said "this is clearly a technical issue I am transferring you to someone better suited for this," but that's all he said. And I haven't heard from anyone since so I thought I'd make a topic and see if anyone else out there has had a similar problem.

The versions I am using are the CS6 versions.*

  • Trouble with CS5 InDesign Paragraph Styles

I am creating a new template. I want one style to be "TOC Title", and another to be "TOC Level 1". All my concerns center around the Paragraph Style Options window (Type > Paragraph Styles > Create New Style >(double-click style to modify)  )
    1. No matter what I do, if I stipulate that "TOC Level 1" has leading (Tabs option, enter a "." or period in the Leader box), then InDesign does this for ALL my paragraph styles.
For the record, under the General option, my "Based On" box is set to "[No Paragraph Style]" for both paragraph styles.
So either I have to live with the TOC title having leading on it, or the TOC Level 1 having none, and in either case having to do something manually to the TOC everytime I use the template.
How can I fix this so that TOC Title has no Leader and TOC Level 1 has a Leader of "." ?
    2. How can I set my TOC Title paragraph style so that it centers on the page?
Edit: Two days later and no reply - I would have gladly supplied more information if I did not make the issue clear enough, and I would have even appreciated a simple "Sorry, I don't know." Since it is highly improbable that nobody out there knows ANYTHING about Paragraph Style tabs in Adobe CS5 InDesign, I must conclude that my issue is simply not "in" enough to be considered worthy of attention from the unnamed scores of elitists which must run this forum.

I think the only way I'm going to be able to understand the problem is to see a sample file. Please make a sample, even if it has nothing more than your style definitions that are failing, and post a link to it here.

  • Printing with trial Indesign

My document created with Indesign will not print. Help!

Are you saying ID will not export a PDF?
Perhaps you are not giving it sufficient time. Export to PDF is a Background Task which means that it happens inthe background while you continue to work. If you try to view the PDF before the export is complete it will fail. There is a somewhat hard to see indicator in the menu bar of scrolling horizontal lines that is active during the export process, but the easy way to tell the PDF is ready is to check the box to View PDF After Exporting inthe export dialog.
And yes, there are printers that work fine in most programs but don't get along well with ID. These tend to be printers that use proprietary Postscript emulations rather than Genuine Adobe Postscript.

  • Having trouble with the InDesign cs6 TOC?

I just installed cs6 from the Adobe Cloud, and nearly had a nervous break-down with the TOC. I had all my paragraph styles laid out in my book and created new TOC styles for them. Part of the toc would show come back with the paragraph styles from the book (not what I wanted) and part would be in the TOC style. Totally random! I only had 3 paragraph styles, and I had to fudge and redo all the paragraph styles in the book with the TOC styles, do the TOC and swap again. I wonder if anyone has encountered this problem?

Thanks Tyson, but this is not the case at all. I wish I had done a screen capture but I will try to explain to you what I had.
I avoided nested styles for that one reason and loaded all the styles for the book from chapter 1 so all would be identical.
I had 4 documents in front matter which I named styled as Introduction in the book.
Introduction: 11pts minion pro bold condensed align left (no indent)
TOC-intro Level 1 same as Introduction
    8 chapters styled as Chapter-Head
Chapter-Head: 48pts Acens bold align right
TOC-chapterhead: Level 1 11pts Minion pro all caps bold align left (no indent)
    Stories under the 8 chapters
Story-Titles: 18pts Minion pro bold align left (no indent)
TOC-storytitles: Level 2 11pts minion pro reg align left with small indent.
    This is what I got
The 4 articles in the front-matter were fine except for the last one which had the small indent.
Chapter One came out as chapter-head aligned right
Chapter Two came out as TOC-chapterhead except for bold
All other chapters came out as 48pts Acens but aligned to the left
Most of the story titles came out as 18pts aligned left with indent.
As I redid the toc the story titles came out with the toc style but as I couldn't remove the huge gap created by the chapters and the 48pts, I redid again only to go back to the previous description.
I finally gave everything in the book the styles I wanted in the toc and reloaded all the styles. This time everything came out almost perfect except for the last article which was indented and the 3 first articles page numbers were a 6pt. I could certainly work with that. Then I redid the paragraph styles again in the book and reloaded the styles again.
As you can see everything was scrambled up and I am wondering if my install is faulty somehow. I downloaded CS6 from the Creative Cloud and I am working with Windows 7.

  • Trouble with trial installation

Hi, I recently downloaded Adobe After Effects CS4 Trial to my Mac, and when I hit the setup icon from the download folder, I get the installation window. Except all it says is "Cannot install please click the quit button." I have no idea why it keeps saying that, yet, despite the fact that I can't install it, my 30-day trial period is still ticking away. Does anyoneknow how to solve this?

    Hi,
An error like that usually means the downloaded dmg was corrupted somehow. Your 30 day trial doesn't begin until you launch the installed application the first time, so at least you don't have a ticking clock.
Have you also confirmed that your machine meets the minimum system requirements for CS4?

Help! @I'm having trouble with how the font/font size appears once its in InDesign. It looks good in Word, then I make my PDF, place it and it suddenly looks different. It's frustrating because not all of the documents look that way, creating a very inconsistent look. What am I doing wrong?

Sure. The first screen shot is the PDF after it's placed in InDesign. The second one is the PDF.

  • Having trouble with Color Swatches - InDesign CS5 to CS6

This may be a repeat - I'm not sure I posted properly the first time.
Having trouble with the Swatches in CS6. When I add our institution's colors, they look dull/gray in CS6. I know it's not just my screens because I created a quick EPS in CS5 for comparison. When I add the EPS file to my doc, the colors pop into the Swatches box but they are clearly different colors. The most remarkable is Pantone 484, which used to be a bright scarlet. Now it's a strange, dull mauve.
I took a screen shot to show a colleague with more experience, but he's stumped. There are very few of us that use InDesign on our campus and we're all self taught. Our tech folks usually come to US for solutions.
I did try the instructions under "Display or Output Spot Colors Using Lab Values" in the Help menu, but nothing changed. That seemed to be the only applicable FAQ that I could find on my own.
Here is the relevant chunk of the screenshot I took - can anyone see what's gone wrong? Color blocks are "old" colors, next to Swatches which show the "new" hues.
    Thanks for any help!

  • Trouble with Footnotes in InDesign 5.5

    Can someone help?
I am designing a book that has approx. 1000 footnotes. I have the 500+ page book split into 4 separate files to save on memory/file size. My first pass through the design went smoothly, with no errors at all. I am currently working through the author's first batch of changes and the files are freezing up on me almost every page. I am able to "force quit" and not  lose anything, but that cannot be good for the file integrity!
I am not able to tell exactly when or why this is happening, except that it seems to have something to do with when InDesign needs to move the footnotes from one page to the next.
The problem is intermittent - sometimes I can work pages and pages with no freezes, sometimes it takes me a half hour to get one correction made! It's making me crazy - and fearful I will never get this project done (without having to completely redesign it!)
Footnotes are a must for this client, so I am actually considering manually adding the footnotes. PLEASE tell me if you know of another way to solve this problem?

    Thanks, again, Peter!
Your comment about frames gave me the idea to just delete the troublesome frames as I came upon them and that seemed to work. Delete a page/delete a frame, reflow the text. With that trick, I was able to finish the first round of revisions to the book this morning!
I really (really, really) can't tell you how great it was to get your advice on this!! And so quickly. It kept me hopeful I could find a resolution without having to redesign the whole project - and I learned some new tricks in the process.
Is it OK if I save this email (thread) until I am confident I've moved past this issue?  (I'm wrapping up for the day now - but will be back into this over the next week.)
Have as great of a day as you've made mine!

  • Trouble with CS 4 corruption

I recently crashed my wife's Mac desktop updating to a new os  (10.5).  Lost everything, and backups did not work.  Saved files, though.
I ran Migration from my lap, and it froze when it got to CS4, but it did upload it..  Evidentally my CS4 from my laptop was in some way compromised.   It works fine to a point.  Creates new docs fine.  Will no longer open many previously created docs, saying that plugins may be corrupted. I compared my plugins with laptop and they are a match.  While I was installing a new harddrive, I figured, I might as well add another.  So, I have 2 bootable harddrives on this computer.  I tried to install CS4 on the second hard drive, but it does not like the serial number of my old CS3.  Oy.  So, I am now opening my old files on a trial version of CS 4 on my backup harddrive.  This party will end in 27 days.  Keeps asking if I want to buy a serial number,  I thought there were plugins to reinstall in the Goodies file of the CS4 install disk, but no.
This is my wife's lifeline.  I can take no chances with the one she has on the main hard drive, that is corrupted somehow, so I need to keep it running, and fix it.  I worked for about 30 or 40 hours restoring her to this point and she will kill me if I mess her up again.  There are no scabs left to pick.  Not to mention that she ran a marketing business from my laptop for 2 weeks, and it will never be the same.  I literally did my business on an iPhone 4s, which was educational, but a little slow.
I would like to strangle the inventor of Apple's "Backup" program with the little umbrella on 10.4, since it is worthless and cost me a load of dough, sleep, hours, and anger from my wife.  I am now running Time Machine, and, Carbon Copy Cloner.  Fool me twice.  Help?
    Thanks.
    BAD

    Bob,
    One more thing.
I do have the serial numbers. On my 2nd new hard drive, I installed
OSX 4.11.  Installed my old programs from scratch.  Everything worked
fine until I got to InDesign.  (The one that my wife relies on a lot
    in her marketing company).
I installed the CS 4 upgrade that I have been using for years (Davis
marketing Systems).  When I finished the download, it asked me for the
serial number of the old version from which I was upgrading, and said
that it needed it, since it could not find an upgradable version.
Logical.  The problem is:  It asked for the serial number of the old,
upgradable program.  I inserted the serial number for my CS# progran,
and it said that it is not a valid serial number.
So, I downloaded the CS3.  Used the serial number that CS 4 would not
previously recognize. It installed easily with its own serial number.
So, at that point (and now), i have CS3, and am on day 6 of my trial
period for CS 4, which I happen to own.  Adobe has tried to sell me
upgrades for that numerous times.  I figured, that i had it made now,
since i had CS 3 in.  I went back and opened a file in CS4.  I got the
same message and the same results.  It could not find the CS 3 serial
number it its proper place on the computer, so I entered it (it had
just been used in the CS 3 install) and it told me that it was invalid.
That's my story, to date.  I have seen similar problems on the boards.
(Before I tried migration, I tried to copy a laptop to the empty new
hard drive.  That crashed too.  Cause of crash corrupt CS4)
Thanks again.  I really do appreciate your fast service and attempts
    to help.

  • Having trouble with image processor...help please!

HI there...First off I just bought a new iMac and haven't a clue what I'm doing so my problem could be related to that.  While I'm waiting for Adobe to transfer over my platform I downloaded the trial of CS5 Extended to get me started.  I'm having trouble with the image processor...I choose file/scripts/image processor...the dialog box comes up and I choose use open files and then try and choose the folder I want to save them in.  I choose my folder and hit run and it keeps telling me specify folder destination.  I can't for the life of me figure this out...what am I doing wrong?  It always worked fine for me on my PC and CS3.  I can't handle saving each image individually in the new folder...
    Thanks!!

I haven't renamed anything as far as I know.  I made a new folder when I hit Folder option and it's highlighted as well as the path shows up in the processor box.  Just when I choose run it tells me to specify a folder.  The only thing I can think of is that maybe something messed up b/c I'm copied the files and folders over from my PC but it let me save as on the mac.  Also the folder I'm choosing to put them in is on the Mac harddrive.  IDK...

Your line breaks will most likely be incorrect if you don't turn on the Japanese Composer.
It is almost absolutely impossible to accomplish your goal without having a font - any font - installed on your system that has that glyph. However, if it's showing up in Word, than means that you must have that glyph installed, right? What font are you trying to use in InDesign? You might already know that Word will auto-substitute fonts when it encounters a missing glyph, so we really don't know what font is being used to render that one glyph. The whole sentence might be in MS Mincho but one glyph might be pulled from another font if MS Mincho doesn't have that glyph.
That being said, you're going to break it if you don't know how to set Japanese type in ID. It's not something where you can just copy text out of email and paste into your English layout.
