Trouble with VBR MP3s

I currently have 2x DMP100s, 1x DMC250, and 1 DMWR1000.
All my media is hosted on a UPNP NAS server, then organized into directories by type (music, movie, tv show, audio book), then Show/Artist/Author, then Season/Album/Book.
I have run into some problems, and am wondering if anyone has found a workaround.
1) Some music will not play past a second or so, or even at all.  I believe this is due to a semi-high VBR (variable bit rate) some of the music is encoded up to the lower 300s.  Has anyone else had this issue?  I can not find the specs of what is officially supported, so that I know how to re-encode everything so it will play properly.
2) DMC250:  Why does this have an option for video and pictures when it does not appear to be able to play either, and does not have any type of video out?
3) The DMC250, and the DMP100 both seem to lack a fast forward for the current track.  I have 45min long audio book segments, and it is just not practicle to play these without the fast forward/rewind function.
4) Please someone take the initiative to write an android app for the controller.  The battery life on mine is horrible, the interface needs work, buttons don't respond as well as a capacitive touchscreens, and I hate having an extra controller.
5) Any direct access tricks to access the devices to config manually?  LELA is incredibly annoying.

At first I thought there was something wrong with my iPod, but I'm glad to hear this is a common software fault.
I just re-coded my MP3 collection to VBR and find that about 10-20% of my files skipps on my iPod nano (2nd gen). I might up the quality of the VBR and seee if that makes any difference.

  • Does the 2nd gen nano skip with VBR mp3s?

    Hi,
I have a 1st gen nano that skips with vbr mp3 podcasts. I would love to get a second gen for more space, but if it skips like the first gen, I will pass.
Can anybody confirm whether or not the problem with VBR mp3s on the 2nd gen nano skips or not?
    thanks

  • Trouble with MuVo mp3 pla

I downloaded music to my new MuVo mp3 player but the player says there's no music on it. When I plug the mp3 player into the computer, I can see all the songs I downloaded but when I turn on the player - the message is no music. Please help. I can't wait to start enjoying listening to music everywhere I go. Thanks

Are the songs in the right format? I assume the muvo is compatable with mp3/.wma/.wav Are your songs in those formats? I have a muvo tx fm 256mb and those are pretty much the files that I think it supports. Are your songs in those forms?

  • Trouble with burning mp3 CD

Okay, so I recently tried to burn an mp3 CD and it did that fine.
But when I went to listen to it, the way it was burned was every artist in a separate folder and so I cannot read on my CD player what song is playing, and it makes it hard to find something to listen to.
Is there any way to make it so that this does not happen? It never happened before I had iTunes.

Well I made a playlist and then I put a CD in and burned it, however I changed the format to burn an mp3 cd first, so it wouldn't be an audio one.
All of them are in .mp3 format and no, none of them are purchased from the music store.

  • 5800 shows wrong track length for MP3s with VBR

I have a Nokia 5800 "XpressMusic" with the current firmware 20.0.012.
Yesterday I converted some CDs using Nokias Music Software (shipping with the mobile).
I converted the CDs to MP3 with VBR 256KB/s.
When i play them on the 5800 a song with i.e. 3:50min length shows about 14:05min length.
When i try to scroll forward i can only do that in the first few mm up to where 3:50 would be. If i go beside that border it jumps to the end and skips the title.
Shouldn't a mobile with the name "XpressMusic" be able to display the real track length of a MP3 with VBR???

  • Burning VBR MP3s - First 2 Sceonds of Track are Cut Off

I am having troubles getting a CD to burn using iTunes. All of my music is VBR MP3s encoded with LAME --alt-preset standard. All tunes have also been run through vbrfix to ensure the vbr tag info is correct. Yet, when I burn a CD in iTunes, it cuts off the first second or two of every song. When I use another program to burn the MP3s (Infrarecorder), they burn just fine. I can stick with this method, but I would like to know if there is a fix for this issue in iTunes. Also, I have the gap between tracks set to 2 seconds. Thanks in advance for you help.

Timmy, thanks. I think that setting the gap to none might have done the trick. I have only tried one disc (and frankly, I don't burn CDs all that much) and it seemed to work. That funny, because I could have sworn I tried that in the past and it didn't work, but now it seems to.
    Thanks again.

  • Transferring VBR mp3s to new Zen Micro: H

Hi, I just got a new Zen Micro.
I've read that people often have trouble transferring mp3s encoded at variable bit rate (VBR) to the Micro with Creative's software. Almost ALL the songs on my computer are VBR mp3s.
Can I skip installing Creative's software and just transfer my VBR mp3s to the Micro with Windows Explorer? Or what is the best way?
    Thanks in advance.
(brand-new black Zen Micro. battery now charging for the first time OMG!!!)
    (Windows XP Home)

Update: I did install Creative's software from the included disk -- my computer didn't recognize the Micro without it. Then I just dragged and dropped mp3s to the Micro's Music Library with Windows Explorer -- worked perfectly! No trouble at all with VBR files (except one or two with messed-up tags), and they sound great on the Micro.
P.S. I have Windows Media Player (no idea what version; it came preinstalled on my computer in late 2003) but I never run it -- I use Winamp instead -- and didn't need to for this purpose. I also didn't need to download any firmware updates or anything. Sweet!

  • Trouble with sorting albums

I have two troubles with itunes:
occasionally my albums have their "out of" track numbers removed. so in the track # column it does not display "(track number) of (total tracks on CD)" but instead only displays "(track number)"
    And
occasionally the LAST song of an album will above the FIRST song of the album instead of the staying as the last song. I have tried everything and cannot fix this without re burning the CD. I don't want to have to do that as I do not have my CD collection with me.
How should I go about fixing these and making sure they dont continue to happen?

Generally setting a common Album Artist will fix things.
For deeper problems see Grouping tracks into albums.
If iTunes won't accept changes to the tags see Repair security permissions for iTunes for Windows.
If iTunes appears to accept your changes but the original values reappear later then the files are likely to be mp3s with multiple tags. In such cases iTunes only updates one of them and may later read back the unchanged data from the other. To fix this select the tracks in question in iTunes, right-click and use Convert > ID3 Tags > None, several times, then use Convert > ID3 Tags > ID3v2.3. You will need to reinsert any embedded artwork.

  • I'm having troubles with Mail. Some mails (in particular to gmail addresses) are not sent.

I'm having troubles with Mail. Some mails (in particular to gmail addresses) are not sent. When sending an email, Mail apparently works for a while but does'nt sent anything. I repeated sending the mail with the same result and 2 or more mails in the draft folder. Yesterday I discovered that the mail had been sent 4 times!. Now I have the same problem: the mail has not been sent, it appears in the draft folder, I try to delete it but the mail remains in the draft folder. This happens after updating to Mac OS X 10.7.2 and migrating to iCloud.
I have MacBook 2 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4 Mb ram memory, Mac OS X Lion (10.7.2).

If those music are greyed out in iTunes on your laptop, are you able to play the music? If you cannot, it means that you probably deleted the mp3 file or moved it to another location where iTunes can no longer find. If they are greyed out on iTunes and cannot play them, I would just right click and delete it. Then re-sync with your iPad.

  • Does Encoding AAC Files with VBR on Improve Audio Quality ?

Does Encoding AAC Files with VBR on Improve Audio Quality ?
    Are there Disadvantages ?
    Bonus Question 1:
Usually, an 'auto' type encoding tool will screw up the natural flow of the music and miss subtle changes in the energy, volume, etc.. -stuff that is just to subtle for it to catch -Generally I wouldn't trust an 'auto' type setting to pick up this subtle stuff. Yet people say using VBR improves sound quality (and NOT file size). Why and how ?
    Bonus Question 2:
What is the max bit rate VBR uses ? If I set my AAC encoder to 320 kbps and turned VBR off, wouldn't the sound quality be superior to encoding with VBR on (simply because the kbps are set at 320 the whole time...) ? Sure, the files encoded with VBR off would be larger, but wouldn't the quality be better ?
    Bonus Question 3:
Lastly, I did a little test and encoded one song with VBR off and one with VBR on. The VBR song was 1.5 MBs bigger - Huh, I thought, is that increased file size the result of improved resolution throughout the whole song, or just one little section (haven't had time to listen to them)?
    Message was edited by: temptemp9

These are some pretty tough questions. I like VBR encoding in general, as it does allow for more complex passages to take advantage of higher bit rates while less complex passages fall back to a lower bit rate, while keeping within fairly consistent file size parameters. Whether VBR yields better results at different target/average bit rates is another matter, and really requires that you encode and properly test output files before deciding on anything but "recommended" settings.
At maximum lossy bit rates of 320 kbps, it doesn't make sense to use VBR. If I recall, the LAME MP3 encoder presets actually preclude VBR encoding for the highest quality files, and the same may be true for iTunes AAC.
I have to admit that to speak with any certainty or confidence about the issues surrounding your various questions, one would really need to encode a bunch of files with iTunes from lossless sources and test them in software such as foobar2000. I could investigate this easily on my own PC, but I don't encode music at 320 kbps AAC, since I have enough disk space to just listen to lossless files. iTunes doesn't display dynamic bit rate changes as foobar2000 does, and I haven't come across any Mac software that does as good a job of allowing for proper testing as foobar2000 for Windows does.
If you really need definitive answers to these three questions, then I think your best bet would be to do as I've hinted and use iTunes and foobar2000 if you've got access to a Windows computer to do this testing and evaluation for yourself, or sign up for a user account at Hydrogenaudio and post the same message there.

  • Trouble with Feedburner.

    I'm having trouble with Feedburner.
I know this is not strictly connected to any Apple product, and it is not a iTunes problem... but I tryed to fix this since 4 days... without any result!
I'm the responsible for the website of my church, and I'm using Blogger for the blog, and Feedburner to produce the podcast link for iTunes. For the last 10 years I used it to produce a podcast for our church (in Italy). Had no trouble at all. Some days ago I tried to upload as usual our sunday podcast, but no media was created on the feed.
Looking at the XML source on Feedburner ther is no enclosure, while on the original post I put a media file storede on MediaFire (this one: http://www.mediafire.com/download/hgbgff4qptw2fy8/testimoniareanatale.mp3)
PodMedic says this: "Content Type reported: text/html; charset=UTF-8 Media enclosure not created because: The content type returned from your host server was a text type, not a binary media type. Podcast content should always return a binary media type, such as audio/mpeg for audio, or video/mpeg for video."
I tried all I could: stored file on a different storages (I normally use MediaFire), took all the other elements on the page connected to the feed that could interfere, checked several times if the media enclosure is mp3 (yes, and it works smootly on the blog), put the link straight on the blog page instead of on the title), piged and resync hundred of times... everything. But no solution at all. No media enclosure, they say.
I also tried to post an old media file which is working on a different post to see how Feedburner react: no media enclosure has been created even for this one.
There is anybody who struggled with the same issue?
    My feed is:http://feeds.feedburner.com/blogspot/Allenatiallunit
    The blog connected is: http://laveravite.blogspot.com
    http://laveravite.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/default?max-results=36
Thanks to anyone who can help. Have a blessed Christmas!
    Marco

None of your episodes work when subscribing. The media file URLs in the feed are Feedproxy ones, which lead to URLs in the same form as the one you quote above. These bring up a web page with links to download or play, not an .mp3 file.
Since the previous episodes appear in the feed it suggests that you originally had Mediafire set to provide a direct link to the feed but that you've somehow changed it to providing the page with the links, which won't work: then subsequently trying to add a new episode in Blogger has failed as it can't now see an mp3 file.
So you need to look into MediaFire. When you enter the URL for you media file into Safari it must play directly in Safari, not bring up a web page.

  • Discovered the non-play issue ... VBR MP3's ...

After spending an annoying amount of time trying to figure out why certain tracks simply do not play on my 3rd gen iPod nano (Stays at 0.00 showing playing) the main issue seems to be with Variable Bit Rate (VBR) MP3's. All my VBR MP3's encoded with LAME 3.9 (Pre-iTunes) simply sit at 0.00 showing playing.
Could others having this issue see what format MP3 or AAC tracks are causing their issues?

Some apps put incorrect info in the VBR tags and cause iTunes to mess up.
You can fix the song files in Windows with this app -> VBRFix.
Not sure how to get VBRFix running on the Mac though.
Looks like it needs to be compiled.

  • Trouble with 30Gb Photo

first time posting on here... I looked back through a few page to see if this issue had already been addressed.
A few days ago, my 30Gb iPod Photo started skipping songs on its own. So after resetting it, it lost all it's content. I've read a couple troubleshooting guides about the computer not recognizing the iPod, but still haven't yet found a way to restore my iPod.
When using the updater, I get many different error messages such as "Can't mount iPod" or "iPod service error"
I've tried re installing just about every iPod related software on my computer, as well as trying to Format my iPod (which I can't even do).
I'm hoping I don't have to send this out for service, as my warranty expired 6 days ago...
    Can anyone help me out?
    Thanks,
    Alex

The Sad iPods icon or folder with an exclamation mark are the toughest problems to deal with, and must do a Restore in order to fix it. However, when your iPod is showing this icon, it is probably too late for your computer to recognize the iPod.
    1. Try these five steps (known as the five Rs) and it would conquer most iPod issues.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
    2. Try to put the iPod into Disk Mode if it fails to appear on the desktop
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651
    Still can't see your iPod?
Several things could keep iPod from appearing in iTunes or in the Desktop/Finder when you connect it to your PC/Mac. The most likely causes are listed below in logical order. Check from the top of the list to see if that is what's keeping iPod from appearing.
    3. Try to wait 30 minutes while iPod is charging.
    4. Try another known-good FireWire or USB through Dock Connector cable.
    5. Try another known-good FireWire or USB port on your computer .
    6. Try to disconnect all devices from your computer's FireWire and USB ports.
    7. Windows users having trouble with their iPods should locate a Mac user. We've found that in many cases when an iPod won't show up on a PC that it will show up on the Mac. Then it can be restored. When the PC user returns to his computer the iPod will be recognized by the PC, reformatted for the PC, and usable again. By the way, it works in reverse too. A Mac user often can get his iPod back by connecting it to a PC and restoring it.
    8. Try to do an Erase (Disk Utility) on a Mac computer or a format with a PC (Disk Management tool) but ensure you choose the right Drive (your iPod not your Hard Disk of your computer). You may need to plug and unplug your iPod with the computer for several attempts, and switching around Format and Restore, and hope out of sudden, it will get recognized.
    9. Diagnostic mode solution – which I copied from a thread of a post from thinktwice
“Then I cam across this special Diganostics Mode that you can get to by resetting and then while the Apple is showing pressing the Select and backwards keys simultaneously. It bring up and weird Diagnostic utility witha a abunch of tests. Here is what I did
    - I tried the 5in1 test and got and error on Firewire.
    - I did the HDD R/W and surprisingly it passed.
    - I went on to the HDD scan. This supposedly tkaes acouple of minute so I waited. I think 4-5 dots appeared then nothing. The iPod started to get hot. THe disk was spinning away. After a while the battery got very low. THis test chews up the battery. So I escaped out by resetting and went to connect it to a power source.
My USB was dangling out of my computer and I was too lazy to get the Firewire AC adapter thing going so I connected expecting the whole lockup thing with iTunes. Surprise. IT was recognized immediately and has been working like a champ. So go figure.
Details on Diag mode can be found at http://www.methodshop.com/mp3/ipodsupport/diagnosticmode/index.shtml
10.Let me ask you a question, if an iPod with no iPod software with it. When your connect it with a computer, what would happen?
Yeah, the computer will treat it as a fresh external hard disk, which will get force mounted, the computer will ask you to format the iPod. It does not really matter the format is completed or not, the key is to erase (or partly) the corrupted iPod software on the iPod, after that the computer will recognize it.
Once it has been completed, eject your iPod, open the iPod updater and interestingly, you will able to do the Restore this time.
Base on the above, that's why I suggest Windows users who experience trouble with their iPods should locate a Mac machine or vice versa. PC computer will not recognize a Mac formatted iPod, but it will get mounted in an attempt to format your iPod.
But, if none of these steps address the issue, your iPod may need to be repaired. You can arrange for service at the iPod Service Website.
I have just read an interesting solution about the Sad iPod, it does make sense but the warranty will be waived once you open the iPod, I would not do it myself as I am not good on doing this

  • Trouble With Audio Coming Out of Sync

I am having trouble with audio sync
I am using .mov files of myself talking however I also record audio of myself talking as well. The audio files record as mp3 however I convert them to aiff files in order to better synch them in FCP
I have an audio sound as an in point in order to better sync them and the syncing is perfect when i start.
My files are about an hour and a half long and 20 minutes or so the audio starts to come out of sync and my mouth becomes a half second or so behind the audio. I record this audio live so there is no delay between my speaking and my recording voice but the longer the video goes the more out of sync I become.
My syncing method that I use is "Merge Clips" at the in points.
    Has anyone else experienced this?

All sorts of things you can do.
Easiest fix is just to run down your timeline and every few minutes snip the audio and move it back into sync.
    Now after that;""
Qe have no idea what your process was. We assume you're editing in Final Cut. How did you import your footage? What format is it in the browser?
what are the settings of your timeline? Look at the sequence settings.
You know that you can plug audio from
    mic into a Zi8?
You need to get rid of the mixer hum. Likely ac electrical
interference , a ground fault, but who knows.
