Trouble with video quality

I am familiar with Final Cut Pro but use Express at work. I have never burned a DVD of a video I created in Express before, so I don't know what I messed up...
The video is A-OK in the computer, but is heavily pixelated after I burn it in iDVD.
I think it could be a few things...
When I export a video in Final Cut Pro, I export it as a quicktime movie. When I do the same command in Express, it creates a Final Cut video file that iDVD won't open. Or, well, it freezes up when you try to open it. So I export using the quicktime conversion. As this is different from what I usually do, I could have messed something up here.
Also, perhaps I am not using the right DVDs or the burner is messed up?
Whatever the case, it looks horrible. I have been burning DVDs in iDVD for a long time and never had this problem...it perplexes me...
So if you have any thoughts on my dilemma, please help me out!
Thanks!

Hello macattack3000,
When I export a video in Final Cut Pro, I export it as a quicktime movie. When I do the same command in Express, it creates a Final Cut video file that iDVD won't open.
Try cmd + I for the video file to bring up the inspector window. Now go to "Open with" and choose Quicktime from the dropdown menu - now your file should have a QT icon. Try importing that into iDVD.
If this doesn't work, open the file with Quicktime and hit cmd + I to get the info .... tell us what it says.
So I export using the quicktime conversion. As this is different from what I usually do, I could have messed something up here.
While it is obviously possible to mess up settings here, it is also recommended NOT to export using Quicktime conversion (goes for both FCE & FCP) but only export as Quicktime movie with current settings - see the Final Cut board for more info on this topic.
hope this helps

  • Trouble with video quality AFTER render

why is it that AFTER i render out what is on my timeline (command - r) does my canvas view look all rough and not nearly as smooth as before i rendered it out?
the situation: i am rendering out comps from after effects 6.5 pro. the quicktimes look beautiful when i play them in qt and they look fine when i import them into FCP 5.0.4 in the viewer window. then i render it out (command - r) and what shows up is a rough, very unsmooth version. my first thought was that if i exported it as an animation at millions of colors+, it would look fine, but no luck.
my view in my canvas and viewer windows is set to 100%.

    thank you!

I'm having trouble with video imported from my camera memory card. The video breaks up and pixelizes when it's directly imported from the memory card. That makes the video useless. Why does this happen? It doesn't do that in any other video editing software. Thanks for the help.

  • Satellite 5100/201: trouble with video card or overheat?

    Hy,
I'm experiencing trouble with video on a Satellite 5100/201. It seems that when I press on the left side above the graphics card or press a key on the keyboard on that side, the screen starts to be scrambled and vertical lines appear. At the end windows XP resets giving a critical error on the device and the video passes to 640x480. Same thing occurs when running Linux Suse 9.0.
My doubt is what is the cause: the graphics card corrupted or overheating due to the fan not as efficient as originally (my laptop is almost two years old. Did someone succed in finding the cause and resolved the problem, also with the Toshiba assistance?
    Any help welcome.

    Hi,
I don't think so that Toshiba has problems with the design. You are talking about two different models with two different hardware and for different user profiles!
The 1900 is a Desktop replacement notebook with "desktop" components like processors and the Satellite 5000 is a Multimedia notebook!
Hint: If you had not done it yet, perhaps you could install the graphic card driver once again. If this don't helps, it is the best way to recover the notebook with the Toshiba CD. (this set the notebook to software default settings and the notebook should be work)

  • FCP Novice needs help with video quality and FCP 5!!

    Hi,
I have a real problme that I cannot seem to fix. I think its because I am doing something really wrong!
I have a Sony HC42E MiniDV Camcorder which by default records video in full widescreen. I recorded several tapes this way and have now begun trying to edit them in FCP 5.04 (Tiger 10.4.6). Whenever I log and capture my clips they appear to be fuzzzy and unclear on the Mac monitor whilst being totally crisp and sharp on the camcorder viewfinder. I tried capturing using the DV PAL 48Khz Anamorphic Preset which keeps everything the right size (the final output needs to be true widescreen and not with black bars added) but the resulting video on screen is blurry and bitty. I then tried capturing using the DV PAL 720 x 576 normal preset and the video is a little clearer on the screen (for both presets I have chosen lower field dominance) but when I play back it plays back in widescreen on the mac canvas window but at 4:3 on the camera's viewfinder.
I then assumed that maybe this is just becuase the mac screen (CRT by the way) doesn't use fields. So I exported the sequence as a QT movie using DV PAL 16:9 and used quicktime (OS9 Classic - my compressor has never worked because of the dreaded "unable to connect to baackground process" problem which I've never managed to correct) to convert it to MPEG2. When I import this as an asset into DVD Studio pro 4 and set the track size to 16:9 it comes through at the right aspect ratio. However it looks blurry on screen. Thinking that this will be fine on a TV I burned the disc - inserted it into my DVD player (a good one!) and watched it on my new 32" widescreen TV (a good one!) and the picture qualitty is poor. Its so much blurrier and bittier than the original footage looks when played through the camcorder's viewfinder!
The final footaage looks like an old VHS recording that's a year or two old!
Does anyone know how I can capture my footage in FCP with the maximum quality, edit it without quality loss and the export it for DVD again without such significant quality loss whilst all the time keeping it at proper 16:9 widescreen?
Is there some presets I should be working to?
I'm tearing my hair out! Help!

    Hi Guys,
    thanx for your replies.
    here's the latest:
Brian, I followed your instructions and the DVD burned successfully. However the video quality of the dvd when viewed on my TV ('ve tried on all 3 of my tvs now) is still a lot poorer than the quicktime movie that was imported into DVDSP4. When I play the original QT Movie on my Mac CRT monitor it looks a little blurry and grainy because I guess its non interlaced however when viewed on an external Video monitor it looks great - very sharp.
When I view the burned DVD on my television the picture quality looks like the non interlaced version of the original QT Movie that appeared on my Mac CRT and not the sharp interlaced (lower field) version that appeared on my external video monitor.
Its almost like taking a sharp jpeg into Photoshop and applying a gaussian blur of about 0.3 followed by jepg compression compressing it down to 5% quality!
I'm totally mystified. Can the conversion to Mpeg2 be removing all interlacing so that you get the less sharp computer monitor look? I just want the video on my final DVDs to be as good as the original source footage! I appreciate that along the way there might be loss of some quality but surely not that much?
Does this make sense to you guys or am I still doing something very wrong?
Robert: I have tried setting all manner of drives including a fresh external firewire HD with nothing on it (clean out of the box) but it doesn't seem to help.
Brian: I tried the no network suggestion a few months back but I'm not sure if I got it right. At the moment I have broadband through an external speedtouch usb modem and am also connected (occasionally although not for the last 3 months) via a crossover cable to my PCs ethernet card. When I last tried the No Network solution I had immense trouble getting my internet to work again! Can you please help me by directing me to the best ay to do this while protecting my internet settings?
any more help guys would be greatfully appreciated.

  • Trouble with  Videos App-

I'm having a lot of trouble getting any digital copy to stream through the Videos app on my iPhone 6 Plus (yes, it's updated to the latest software). Some will start and then rebuffer every few minutes/seconds, some will not start at all. I've verified that the Internet speed and consistency isn't the issue, and on top of that I have no problem streaming other digital copies on this device (Flixster, Disney Movies Anywhere, Amazon, etc.). I also have no problems streaming the digital copies via Apple TV. The closest I've seen to an answer covering this was to do the standard protocol for any iPhone issue (reboot, etc) and if that didn't work, restore as new. I'm HIGHLY reluctant to restore as new, if the issue is on Apple's end and if there's any other approach that might solve this. Any ideas?

The Videos App on an iPhone doesn't stream. It downloads the complete digital copy file.
You can start playing the video while it downloads as long as the download is fast enough. If not you'll need to wait for it to download before playing.
Streaming services usually adjust the video quality to the internet speed being used.  A download for a digital copy from iTunes will not and as such may not be able to keep up with the playback.
In short wait for the digital copy to finish downloading before playing.

  • Problem with video, Quality gets all messed up

I'm burning a video thats about an hour and even minutes long, with about 3 short little extra videos on there that are about five minutes long each
I burned the DVD with best quality.
The Menus are fine, and two of the short videos are fine
but after like 5 minutes on the main video, it starts to get all distorted and chopy and all this green distortion comes up and its just a mess
I would burn it with best performance, but it says its to long for that
    I NEED HELP!!

QT and FCP show you different colors. You need to go into QT and enable FCP color compatibility. I believe it is in the SHOW MOVIE PROPERTIES, then the VIdeo track, then VISUAL SETTINGS. Somewhere in there.

  • Having problems with video quality in iDVD 09

I have created a slide show in iMovie with audio. When saved it is in a .mov format. I burned it to DVD using the burn folder option. It has great video quality in that format. Since most DVD players won't accept the .mov format or some PC's, I wanted the most common format for viewing. I exported the movie to iDVD and used these settings..
    Video Mode-NTSC
    Aspect Ration 16:9 widescreen
    Encoding-Professional Quality
    DVD Type-Single-Layer (SL)-4.2 GB
When going from the .mov format to the MPEG-2 format ( I think this is the output format for iDVD)
The quality is very poor. It seems to have wavy lines throughout the file, especially when someone is wearing patterned clothing.
Anyone know how to get the same quality of the .mov file to something that will be viewable across multiple platforms???
Would using moviegate conversion software be an answer????

a mov can contain all kind of codecs and esp. resolutions..
a videoDVD, by standards, has a 720x480 res, and is interlaced.
=> quality HAS to be 'lower' than any 5Mpix on a HiDef computer screen..
but, I did tons of slideshows with iMHD6 and iDVD.. for me, quality is superb.. for sure, tiny 'checker patterns', 'sub pixel lines' etc. HAVE to flimmer..

  • Having trouble with sound quality

I have had this iPod Touch 2nd Generation for almost 2 years now, and I'm starting to have some troubles with it. The headphone sound quality is now starting to deteriorate. Unless the headphones are plugged in a specific way, either one bud goes out, or the sound quality goes down, as there is a lot of static and crackling, and I've had experiences with it actually shocking my ears while I'm listening.
I have tried a new pair of headphones, and this does nothing.
My iPod is obviously beyond the manufacturer's warranty, and it's up-to-date with the latest update. Is there anything I can do?

Sounds like your headphone jack may need replacing.

Which OS level and which Updates ?
Your post suggests that you are at least at 10.4.7 when the logs were introduced.
What Error log number appears in the second paragraph if you open the Reveal Triangle on the arrival of the Pop up to send to Apple ?
Or in Home Folder/Library/Logs/iChatConnectionErrors is where old logs are stored.

  • Issues with video quality after editing in Premiere Elements.  Please help!!!

I am having issues with the quality of video output from Premiere Elements.  I tried to combine 4 videos clips that I took (all were crystal clear when viewed prior to combining them in Premiere Elements).  The first clip is quite pixelated, the second has wavy lines running across it the whole time (recorded webinar), and the third clip looks crystal clear. (FYI...first clip and third clip were both taken using the exact same settings on my Canon)  I am not very tech "savvy".  I am guessing it has something to do with the way I saved or "shared" the video after editing?  But I have NO IDEA what settings I need as I am not very "tech" savvy!  I want to upload the finished product to Vimeo.  I looked on Vimeo and followed instructions from a tutorial that a Premiere Elements user posted about how to save the best quality video for uploading to Vimeo, and the quality turned out FAR WORSE than the first time I saved it.  Please help!!!  Thanks so much!

Thanks for your response John!  Do you think my issue may be due to the way I initially "set up" the project when I created a new project from the very beginning?  I am operating on Premiere Elements 10, so I do not see an option for sharing online directly to vimeo....only facebook and Youtube.  I am combining 4 video clips.  3 of the 4 clips were shot on my Canon EOS 60D, and 1 of the video clips was a recording of a PowerPoint based webinar that we did via Meeting Burner (meetingburner.com).  Since I am combining more than 1 video format, is it likely that I will run into quality issues?  The strange thing was that 2 of the clips shot with my Canon showed up blurry after exporting/sharing my final video, but one of them was still crystal clear.  This doesn't make any sense to me since I did not change any settings on my Canon.  I didn't see any specific tutorials on setting up the project to match the video from that list of Tutorial links.

  • Troubles with video players

Hi there, well I'm a old user of firefox and I really like the browser, so every time that I find some issue in both: desktop and android mozilla browser, I'm trying to help the community sending some feedback. This time, I want to tell you something: I usually like to play some anime videos on pages like: "www.animeid.tv" or "www.animeflv.net" and both of them have their own mobile version for smartphones and tablets, but when I'm trying to watch some video with mozilla android I get some troubles with the video players and most of the times I'm not able to play any video ( I always try with all the video alternatives offered by the sites and I got the same), I compare it with chrome android and for my surprise I'm able to watch the videos normally.
I have tried differents things like:
    - Uninstalling and Installing again Mozilla on my smartphone ( It does not work)
    - Cleaning the history's browser ( It does not work too)
    - Checking this issue on a different device ( I got the same problem)
So, I would really appreciate if you could help me with this soon as possible.
    Thanks

    Hi Kristian Roa C.
    Thanks for replying!
Just tried all 3 options again (last time was on a Samsung S5) for www.animeid.tv on my HTC One M7 running Android Kitkat 5 & Firefox 36.0.1
and I see the same behaviour as you described
    # For DailyMotion I think this could be a bug in Firefox or more likely a bug in the way the video player was coded by the animeid web developers since DailyMotion.com videos work fine in fullscreen if you watch them from dailymotion.com
    # For ios: this is of course coded for iOS (which uses the same browser engine as Chrome) so I am not surprised it doesn't work
    # For Videobam - I have no idea why it takes so long to load. Might be a bug in Videobam or again the way the web developers have coded it.
    # "I compare it with chrome android and for my surprise I'm able to watch the videos normally" - This is unfortunately not a surprise; this happens a lot because many mobile sites are coded by web developers to only work on Safari and Chrome and in doing so are not compatible with webstandards (we call this "webcompat"). I would suggest that you file a support request with animeid.tv to fix their coding and also that you file a webcompat issue at https://webcompat.com/
    # "I have a doubt if Mozilla by default has installed flash player or not. And in the negative case: where can I get the apk?." - You are right, Mozilla doesn't install flash by default. Please install the flash player by following our instructions here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-do-i-watch-flash-videos-firefox-android and here: https://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/installing-flash-player-android-devices.html
Sorry that I can't give you a definitive solution but hopefully the above will help a wee bit.
    Cheers!

  • Trouble With Exporting Quality with iMovie HD

    Hi,
Im a first time user of iMovie HD and was having trouble with the qqaulity of my footage when im exporting or sharing it out to quicktime in a dv file.
When i connect my camera to a TV and watch the footage it seems a lot clearer in comparison to when i 'share' it out of iMovie HD. It seems to lose a lot of its quality. Does anyone have any suggestions? I obviously want to get the best quality i can, can anyone help???

    Don't worry, it's a bit on illusion!
The quality that you see in iMovie is not representative of the quality you will see on your TV from the final DVD. This shoulkd be almost indistinguishable from what you see on your TV from the camera.
This is intentional, in that the quality is reduced (as far as what you see is concerned) in order to save 'extra labour' in the Mac's processor.

  • Trouble with video on 5G Ipod

I have re-encoded some of my own videos to MPEG4 format, and tried to add them to my ipod. I have added them to itunes just fine. They appear both in the Library and under Videos and they play just fine in itunes (and Quicktime too, for that matter). This leads me to believe that the file format is not the issue. Unfortunately, I still can't get them to transfer over to my ipod.
Under preferences, I have selected "automatically update all videos". I even tried adding all of the videos to a "recently added" playlist and then setting the preferences to "automatically update only selected playlists" (Recently Added), but still no luck.
One thing which I am curious about is that at the bottom of my itunes window where the information about space used and space remaining appears, there is a lock image next to "Free: 51 GB". The hold switch on the ipod is not on - I don't know if this lock image is even important.
I've been looking over the support docs for hours and none of them seem to address what seems to be the syncing issue that I am having. Every time I connect my ipod or try to "update" my ipod, it updates for about 20 seconds and then is finished, but with no videos transferred.
Thanks in advance for your help!

What software are you using to convert the videos to iPod format?
If you are using Quicktime Pro, or iTunes to do the conversion... then that is most likely where your problem lies.
Your source video files is probably muxed.
Neither QT Pro or iTunes has the ability to successfully encode a muxed video file with audio. You'll end up with video and no audio.
    More information here:
iPod plays video but not audio of some exported files
You'll need to use some other third-party software to do the conversion. There's a handful of software available. Just search the forums and you'll find many titles mentioned.
I have had good experiences using MPEG Streamclip (Mac & Windows) and iSquint (Mac).
