Trouble with vista

i just got a new lapper with vista on it and im having problems syncing my ipod.
i installed the latest version of itunes on the notebook and updated itunes on my pod as well but i still cant accsess the music on the pod. i can bring it up but its greyed out and im unable to transfer it to my library in itunes.
dying to get my music on my lapper any ideas on a work around for this or am i just missing something simple ?

That's because it's set to update automatically, you can only access the songs on an iPod directly through iTunes if it's set to manual update:

Something to remember about using an iPod in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device. In that case check this link for various methods of ejecting an iPod from a computer: Safely Disconnect IPod

Regarding a WRT54G: Firmware and trouble with Vista

Hey all,
First of all, this is my first post here on this board so please don't have me assassinated if I skipped some board rules/policy. I'm trying to find a solution to my problem a.s.a.p.
My first question is: what's up with the firmware versions and my router's modelname? When I bought the router I got it in a box saying WRT54G (v1.1) with firmware version 4.30.7. As a first step getting the problem described below solved, I downloaded the latest Linksys firmware for a WRT54G v1.1 from this website. After the firmware update my router now seems to be known as a WRT54GL and next to that my firmware version number didn't increase, it deacreased to 4.21.1. I don't know about you guys but this doesn't seem logical to me. Any explanations? Also the firmware's date seems to be somewhere back in 2006, isn't this a bit outdated for 'latest' software?
Now onto the next subject: the fact that my Acer notebook keeps losing the wireless signal since Vista. The wireless connection between the router and my notebook has always worked very fast and flawlessly when I ran XP SP2. However, as soon as I install Vista, something odd happens. With the same drivers for my wireless chipset (they're for both XP and Vista) either my notebook keeps losing the wireless signal or the router has trouble providing my Vista notebook with a steady signal. For 30 to 45 minutes I seem to have a steady signal with 5 blocks filled on Windows' signal'O'meter and then suddenly I get disconnected from my router for like 10 seconds to 1 minute. At first it says my connection turned from "local and internet" to "local only" and after a few seconds the entire signal is dead and the wireless tray icon gets covered by that little yellow triangle. Without interfering it'll take up to a minute at most and the connection will be back as it was before. However, this minute is just enough to mess up skype sessions, downloads, streams, you name it. To be honest, I haven't got the faintest idea what might cause this. Does anyone of you have?
N.b.
- I think I've noticed the issue occuring more frequent during high bandwidth usage like downloading with 2.5 to 3 MB/s but I'm not very sure about that.
- My notebook hasn't moved an inch over the past years and there are no other devices added in my house that might interfere with the signal.
- I've tried all the eleven channels.
- I've set up a dualboot system on my notebook with XP SP2 and guess what, problem is gone when I use XP SP2 again.
- I'm using an Atheros AR500G wireless adapter.
- I'm only using Acer's drivers for the wireless adapter, not their useless resources consuming utility that "manages my wireless settings". Which seem to be Acer's words for slowing sh1t down a lot!
- I'm using exactly the same internet security software with Vista as with XP SP2. Turning this software off won't help in any way.

I've already resetted and reconfigured the router several times, doesn't help. Also tried all the 11 channels.
And yes, I am able to go online but the problem described in my first post still exists. I don't see why switching channels would solve it anyway since it's clearly a problem caused by the router in combination with Vista, it's not signal strength related. But like I said, I tried all the channels anyway.
Is it possible for a Linksys employee to take a look at this topic? Are there some known issues with a WRT54G and Vista and/or an Atheros AR5005G chipset? Is my hardware and software supported by the WRT54G at all?

Trouble with Vista and Bluetooth

I'm having an issue with Vista SP2 and Bluetooth. I have Vista Home Premium SP2 running under Boot Camp on a MacBook Pro, and I have an Apple Wireless Mighty Mouse and Apple Wireless Keyboard I need to pair with Windows. I followed the instructions listed in the Boot Camp manual, but Vista won't let me create my own passkey, it just "pairs" the devices for me. When I close the window, the devices do not show up, nor do they function. I called AppleCare support, and have talked with all of who could help me, and they have determined this is an issue with Windows and that I need help from Microsoft. They said I have to enter my own passkey to get it to work, and they do not know why I can't. They're thinking it has something to do with a Windows Update.
Just wondering what can I do to get these paired up and working. I really need these to work since my MacBook Pro is on a notebook riser and it's awkward to raise up and type and click in such an uncomfortable position.

I cannot get the apple wireless keyboard to work with my Mac Pro (Feb-2008 model) under bootcamp and Vista Home Premium 64. I had to upgrade from 10.5.1 in order to use Final Cut Studio 3, so I downloaded and installed OSX 10.5.8 update. Then I ran bootcamp and installed Vista 64. Afterwards, in Vista I inserted the original OSX 10.5.1 DVD and installed the drivers so Vista would recognize the apple hardware.
I went to pair the wireless mighty mouse and apple keyboard and the instructions say to enter 0000 for the mouse, and enter an 8 digit or larger number for the keyboard. Since the keyboard doesn't work, I couldn't enter anything so I let the system choose a number for the keyboard and let the mouse go without a number. Both show they are connected but only the mouse works. I also tried letting the system generate a number for both but only the mouse works. I tried turning off the mouse but then the system doesn't detect the keyboard at all. For that matter, I don't even like the mighty mouse anyway and prefer to use the mouse with my Wacom tablet so I could do without the mighty mouse if that would somehow help.
Is there a known issue with 10.5.8 and bluetooth under windows vista 64? What should I do? I must have Vista 64 in order to utilize 3ds Max 2010 and I must have a keyboard to use 3ds Max. Is there a driver I can download to make it work or do I need to buy a generic USB keyboard?

i have a zen 6gb and windows vista won,t install the driver . When i put the disc in which came with the player to install I go through all the disc like it says to be told at the end windows could not find the driver my computer is a acer 32 bit'swith vista premium new and also my mp3 is new so what is the problem

If you haven't already, try running the installer as an Administrator user for the computer. If you aren't familiar with that topic then enter "Run as Administrator" as the subject the built-in Windows Help system. It should tell you. I don't have a Vista computer around me at the moment to give precise instructions.

Ipod not recognized by itunes with vista!!

I (amid all of my other troubles with vista) have updated to itunes 7.2 but am not able to get itunes to recognize my 30 GB video ipod. I perused the other discussions and noticed others have had the same problem but never came across an answer.

I just got Vista too and it does recognize my ipod, but itunes can't find a lot of my songs on the computer. I tried to uninstall itunes and reinstall it thinking that it would seach for new music when I installed it again but nothing new happened when I did that.

I have 64-bit Vista on an HP laptop, and am having trouble with P4

I have 64-bit Vista on an HP laptop, and am having trouble with P4. When I go to the "Compatibility" tab in for the P4 .exe file, 32-bit Vista does not show up as a compatibility option. The latest version shown is XP with SP2. Am I missing something? Is there a patch or download that updates P4?(The problem I'm having is stuttering and stopping in the imported avi2 files I have downloaded from my Panasonic digital camcorder and converted from avi to avi2 using DVDate. Also, I get stuttering with digital photos - jpg files - that I want to insert in the movie with added narration.)

It gets a little complicated. This is a simplification, but I hope this
helps to visualize what's happening.
The 32 bit and 64 bit environments are separated from each other.
There are separate program files directories, separate shared dll library
directories, and even separate registry entries. You can't mix 32 and
64 bit modules, and some applications, like Internet Explorer, install
both a 32 bit and a 64 bit version on the same computer. (IE does that
so it can process web pages that use 32 bit executable controls).
Vista 64 has 32 bit emulation built-in using a subsystem called Windows
on Windows 64 or WOW64 for short. WOW64 intercepts 32 bit
application calls to the operating system and handles the 32 to 64 bit
conversions and the redirection of the file and registry locations.
The program files themselves contain flags that indicate whether they
are 32 bit and whether the file uses the 64 bit version of the file
structure.
If the program is marked 32 bit, it will run in 32 bit using WOW64.
Programs are generally installed by an installer program which places
the application files in the proper locations and writes the registry
entries and any other setup tasks that are needed. To install a 64
bit program, a 64 bit installer is needed. For 32 bit installers, the files
and registry entries are redirected to the 32 bit locations.

Depending on how you created your Apple ID, you may not be able to create an iCloud account with your current Apple ID. If your Apple ID works in the iTunes Store, App Store, Game Center, FaceTime, or with other Apple Services, your Apple ID should work for iCloud. Also, if you created your Apple ID while you applied for a job at jobs.apple.com, your Apple ID should work for iCloud. If you cannot use your Apple ID with any Apple Services, it might not be compatible with iCloud. Contact iCloud Support for assistance.

Troubles with T3100 on Vista

For some reason my new Creative Inspire T300 is dead-as-a-doorknob. I have it attached to a new Dell Inspiron desktop with Vista. The power cord is plugged into a power outlet; the T300 system is plugged into the computer. I have read and re-read the diagram showing how to plug in the T300, and am pretty sure I have followed instructions. Some years ago I had no problem setting up a similar speaker system for my previous PC. Yet this time no such luck.
Is there a way to test whether the T300 is okay or faulty?

You can connect the speakers to another device like an mp3 player, radio, etc... If you are getting sound from the speakers, it's working properly.

NAT issue - WRT54G Version 1.1 with Vista Home Premium

I am trying to figure out the cause of my problems, this router or Vista?
I have 2 PC’s (just want to use my Vista 1) connected to the same router that is connected to a cable modem – the Windows XP machine has no problems bar its age and spec. I have a brand new PC with Vista Home Premium installed on it, now it is this new PC that I am having NAT problems with and port blocking.
I have installed Windows Live Messenger and when setting it up I went into Tools/Options/Connections and I get an error message:- "You are connected to the internet through a UPnP port restricted NAT. The Windows Firewall is enabled. (User)"
I have no option to run the trouble shooter (greyed out)…….
If I turn off Windows Vista Firewall I get:- "You are connected to the internet through a UPnP port restricted NAT. (User)”
Since this I have installed Media server software and have to reset the port it uses every time as it is always stating that it is blocked.
I have downloaded OpenOffice via a torrent client which also stated that I had NAT problems.
I have no NAT issues at all on my older XP PC and as a result I believe it is safe to rule out my router and modem……..I have only disabled Windows Firewall and this had made no difference, but I have not tried uninstalling it (no idea if that would make a difference)
Oh, I do not have UPnP enabled (router setting) – does this matter (I have tried turning it on but made no difference to this issue so I turned it off again)?

Trouble with Benq DC C 700 digital camera on Satellite L30 105

I'm having trouble with my digital camera when I connect it to my laptop. Every time I connect the camera the laptop freezes and gives me the blue screen of death, that is, the screen you get when a fatal error occurs, and then my laptop has to be rebooted. So this happens each and every time I connect the two.
I've tried updating the bios and installing the latest drives but nothing seemed to work. I've contacted the support center at Benq and they told me to contact Toshiba as they are pretty sure the problem is not with the camera. So please anyone, if you have any ideas and or suggestions/solutions I'll be glad to hear them out.

First of all if you need the Toshiba support you have to contact the Toshiba authorized service partner in your country. This forum here is only a user-to-user forum and you will not find anyone from Toshiba here.
Secondly;
It seems the Satellite L30-105 was delivered with Vista. Do you use this OS on the L30?
I have read about many issues with the 3rd party devices, software and Windows Vista.
I dont know what the guys told you but possibly the webcam software is not 100% compatible with Vista.
You should know that the BSOD appears if there is a serious software or hardware problem. I dont think that this issue was caused by a hardware problem and therefore there is only one possibility; software compatibility issue.
In you case I would update the Vista to the latest state and would ask the webcam manufacture if its 100% compatible with Vista.

CP 1215 trouble with printing

I have never had any troubles with this product before. My printing machine CP 1215 started to do strange things arround this New year. It is printing with mistake making strips on pictures printed from program MS Word. But not only that. If I try to print some picture in jpg it is printing just black all the space of picture - instead of picture.
My system is Windows 7 and I am bit suspicious that it is some software trouble because of when I connect printer to another PC with Windows Vista, there are no problems at all. But if I connect to another PC with Windows 7, it makes the same trouble.
I removed my old HP software and tried new. No changes, same trouble :-/. I was trying to find mistake in HP software for removing software troubles, nothing. I tried to print mistake page, it was printing strips.
I am sure that my printing machine is not broken as it would not be able to print with another PC without any troubles and mistakes and strips. And why it prints the same mistake with the same operation system on another PC?
I hope to find help here as I quite need that it will start to work properly.

Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
(Win XP SP2 n above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
ipconfig /flushdns
Hit "ENTER" key
Restart your computer.
Now try your preview music again.

K9a2 platinum motherboard, trouble with mouse/updating bios.

Hello all, I have a MSI K9A2 Platinum mb, using vista 64 bit. I wanted to flash my bios, Pretty sure I have 1.4, wanted to try 1.8, or 1.9. When I go to download center will ask me where I want to download from, I click on U.S nothing happens, even tried the other countries nothing. Up top tab will say blank page and go back to download center. Reason I wanted to try and flash my bios to update it is. I have a USB razer lachesis which I have to unplug and plug back in several several times a day, Im having trouble with it lagging or stuttering. I have tried every driver update new and old and nothing works. I have unchecked enhance pointer precision, I have tried every usb port on my computer. Nothing. I have tried updating my video card, on board sound drivers, mouse drivers nothing. Im at a lost. I have no clue on what else to try. Do you think updating my bios will work? Thank you all for reading this. Hope it makes sense)

I just use some leftover kensington notebook mouse (ci25m), even though its small it fits my fingers(not my palm, just my fingers ..because my hand/palm is huge lol) and it just works. The only time I bought a really spendy mouse (creative fatality) I only ever had problems with it.

I got Zire 31 and try to sync in Windows Vista using Palm Desktop 4.1.4E for Windows
I did right click on the setup files and "run as administrator", and after the installation, I click on the icon and run as the administrator to open the program.
and it pop up this message "Palm Desktop Application has stop working..."
uninstall and reinstall didn't help. so would that mean Palm Desktop 4.1.4E for Windows does not work with Windows Vista ????

Your only solution to sync with 64bit is via the Infra-red (IR) port on your Zire31...
