Trouble with workflow: importing photos from Flickr

I seem to be having difficulty with my first attempt. I've created a workflow (as per automator.us tutorial) to import linked photos from the current web page (in this case a Flickr Groups page of which I am the Administrator) and put them in iPhoto. The workflow seems to run (I get little green checkmark-circles in the lower left of each step, and the folder I have specified is created in iPhoto), however the photos do not show up and the count is 0. What am I missing?
Also (related?), sometimes when I try to switch to Automator from the web page or from iPhoto, only the last used application will surface; Automator stays hidden and I usually have to finegle my way to grab part of the window.
Any ideas? Thanks
Drelika

Hi
Thanks for your response. I went to Flickr and examined the links. I don't know much about web pages but I understand what you mean. So, does this mean that I can't automate the downloading of these photos or is there some way I can modify the workflow to work? I'm really hoping I don't have to download 236 photos one at a time!

  • Importing photos from Flickr to iPhoto

I've been using my Flickr Pro account to store all of my photos, and I'd like to get them synced/imported to my iPhoto 09. I've searched everywhere, but I can't find a way to do it. Is it possible to import photos from Flickr, or will I have to use a tool like Flump to download all of my Flickr photos, then make new sets in iPhoto?

Welcome to the Apple user to user assistance forums
You have to download your photos to your Mac disk and then import into iPhoto

  • Help with importing photos from camera if some pics were imported earlier

I am trying to import photos from my digital camera into iphoto and there are some old photos on my camera already. When the prompt screen tells me that there is a repeat photo, I clicked on do not import it for all such photos option. After that the screen tells me that the photos are being imported, but nothing happens. I am very furstrated, is there anything I can do? I have iphoto 6 version. Thanks!

I believe with iPhoto 6 if you upload the photos to a folder first and then import that folder into iPhoto 6 you will be given the opportunity to exclude duplicates. The import has to be from the Finder and not directly from the camera. You can test that by importing a single photo that is already in the library from the Desktop. If I'm wrong this post will self destruct 10 seconds after and all here will disavow any knowledge of me.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.≤br>
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • I'm having trouble with video imported from my camera memory card.

I'm having trouble with video imported from my camera memory card. The video breaks up and pixelizes when it's directly imported from the memory card. That makes the video useless. Why does this happen? It doesn't do that in any other video editing software. Thanks for the help.

    More info please:
    Type of camera?
Was the card formatted in the camera doing the shooting?
Type of files the camera is set to record?

  • Import photos from SD Card into a library with referenced masters

    I have the following problem:
I would like to migrate from Aperture (that I used for the past couple of years) to Photos for OS X. (Well, let's say I feel kind of forced to  by Apple's decision to abandon Aperture and since I do not like to switch to Lightroom (which I fear will soon be available via Adobe's Cloud system!)). I successfully migrated my Aperture library to Photos. My library is a 'referenced library', i.e. a library where the original photos ('masters') are NOT inside the library but stored in a separate location. In my case the original photos are stored on a NAS. Photos recognizes all my photos and by right-clicking on a photo I can select the 'Show in Finder' option and Photos correctly shows then the location of the corresponding photo on the NAS. So far so good.
The  problem arises when I want to import new photos from the camera (or its SD card). I plugin the SD card into the Mac and fire up Photos. Then I click on 'Import'. I do not succeed in importing the photos from the SD card in a way that the original files (masters) are copied to the NAS (the place where I keep my masters). In fact when I import then everything (also the master files) are copied into the library (which is located on the Mac's internal SSD.) This happens despite I have deselected "Copy objects into photo library" in the Photos app Preferences.
(Another problem is that, with Aperture, I could import photos from the SD card in a way that the originals were copied to the NAS, renamed appropriately (e.g. <date>-<time>.JPG and put automatically in an Aperture-created folder structure (year/month/day). I fear that the only way to keep on working with 'referenced' masters will be by NOT using Photos' Import function directly for the import from the SD card, but first to copy 'manually' (using the Finder) the photos from the SD card to the NAS (after having created year, month, day folders manually) and then to use Photos Import function. Is this really the sad truth?
Another problem is: When I delete a photo from the library, it will NOT be deleted from the masters! :-(
Has anybody experienced the same problems?
    Cheers
    Rainer

    The SanDisk website has a PDF owner's guide that says the following;
Macintosh Disk Icons: When you connect the MicroMate Reader/Writer on a Macintosh operating system, a removable disk icon labeled
“untitled” representing the MicroMate Reader/Writer will show on the desktop when a card is inserted.
It also has directions to drag the removable disk icon labeled “untitled” to the trash to remove the disk. There is also a support link to a ebox page on a secure site that won't let me go farther (I think I need a newer browser), so I can't find drivers.
My problem is that the icon doesn't show up and I can't find it in any applications I try. I know the Disney camera is a toy, its for my 5 year old, but I am having the identical problem with both the Disney camera and SanDisk.

I'm working to set up my website with iWeb and it won't let me import photos from iPhoto! Whats up?

Will Image capture (in your applications foldr) see them and bring to disk? If so then once they are safely off the memory card and on disk use the camera's format command to reformat the memory card
and can you impoprted to iPhtoo from disk? Will preview open the photos on disk?

when i now go in iPhoto to my iphone device i see now a section with my already imported photos
Q: how i can delete some of this already imported Photos from iPhone with iPhoto?
    PS:
i know there is the "Image Capture" app. but i like to do this with iPhoto, because i see there the already imported photos which i can delete safely from iphone.

You'll need to create a new, temporary library and import into that with the option to delete from your iPhone. Then delete the library and go back to your current library.

  • Trouble with keyword import in LR5 from one catalog to another

Hi; I am trying to open a new catalog because my original catalog is getting somewhat sluggish.  It has about 60000 images.  First, will opening a new catalog improve anything?  Second, I have tried to import the prior catalog "keywords" by going: metadata, import keywords, light room settings, key word sets   and get "no items match your search.  What am I doing wrong?

I have had this Nikon 7100 for about 6 months.  It has more whistles and bells than I am likely to use.  I haven't been troubled by 24 megs in LR I guess because I use it mostly for filing and Photoshop for editing.  I only edit a few.  If I were in need of batch editing, which I may in the future, I think LR would be better.
As to the timing, don't we all get spoiled.  We have more computer power now than NASA had 15 years ago.  It makes you wonder how the original Apple 2+ with 48k memory even functioned.

It doesn't sound unreasonable, it is the size of my current camera and I do have to wait for imports to complete but never timed them. Is this a new camera? The reason for the question is that megapixels matter a lot for Lightroom, it is something I haven't gotten used to yet. There are certain Develop adjustments Lightroom struggles with on a 24 megapixel file (cropping, and the Upright and Manual lens corrections, for example). In other words, there are things that Lightroom does on a 6, 12, 14 megapixel file with ease and cannot do with ease on a 24 megapixel file. Memory does not seem to matter, I recently upgraded my laptop and the performance improvement is marginal. You can almost hear the cogwheels moving sometimes. • IPhoto 11 won't import photo from iPhone 5 on new MBP

Brand new MacBookPro out of box experience -- picked up the laptop yesterday.  Everything seems to work until I get to iPhoto (as usual).  Plugged in my iPhone 5 and tried to import photos.  Error -- Unreadable Files: 1   IMG_0434.JPG.   Ok...  Not sure what's wrong but when I go back to import photos there are now fewer to import.   Tried again.  Same error.  Even fewer photos to import again.  Tried to find the photo on the iPhone but despite the confusing array of presentation options there is no way to simply find one by file name.  And hence no way to delete the offending photo.  Or to import it.
Similarly there appear to be two movies to be imported but iPhoto reports "Error downloading image.  iPhoto cannot import your photos because there was a problem downloading an image."  Not helpful.  And again no way to remove the offending files.  No way to find them on the iPhone.  No way to delete them through iPhoto.
Oh, and is there still not any way to turn off the stupid events stuff?  This just causes more confusion for me when trying to enjoy my photos.  Alternatively can I import photos from my iPhone using another app and move them directly to the file system and eliminate iPhoto from my workflow altogether???

Can you access these images and movies with Image Capture (in the Applications Folder) ?

  • IPhoto won't allow me to import photos from my iPhone?

I currently am using iPhoto '09 version 8.1.2 but I'm having trouble importing photos from my iPhone 6 to my MacBook. I can plug my phone into my computer and it will show up under "devices". However, all of the photos and videos from my iPhone only show up as grey boxes with a white dotted line around them. When I press either "import all" or "import selected", it says that each photo or video is unreadable because it is in an unrecognized format. I tried updating to a newer iPhoto version but I don't have Mac OS X version 10.10 or later on my MacBook. Thanks for the help!

    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?
    Post back with the result.

  • Iphoto won't import photos from Kodak EasyShare Camera

I have alsways been able to import photos from my canon camera directly into iphoto. I just purchased a Kodak Easyshare Camera. When I hook it up to my computer, it won't import the photos. The camera does come with it's own EasyShare Software - but I really don't want to import it into my computer. I want the photos to import directly into iphoto library. My Canon Camera still imports into the library. Help.

    sunnydays:
Does System Profiler recognize the camera when it's connected? What version of iPhoto and Quicktime are you at. If not the latest then I suggest you update to 6.0.0 and 7.2 respectively. I'd also update to 10.4.10 via the COMBO updater followed by a repair of disk permissions.
Do you have iPhoto erase the memory card after each upload? If so, I strongly recommend against it as I've seen too many reports of incomplete uploads and complete erasures. It's safer to have the camera reformat the card after the upload.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Can't Import Photos From Nikon D3 on iPad

Is anyone else having trouble importing photos from a Nikon D3 to an iPad 3G? I have no trouble importing from a Nikon D70 but when I connect my D3, it just says "No Photos To Import" but there are 30 in there?

On the D3 do you have RAW (NEF) and Jpeg or only (RAW) NEF selected?
The follow was snipped from an article at MacWorld, you may wish to read the article.
What does it do with Raw files?
With the camera connector kit, the iPad can upload and store raw image files such as .nef (Nikon) and .cr2 (Canon). While there isn't any way to edit or work with those raw files on the iPad at this time, the iPad does create an optimized JPEG version of each image. You can use that image the same way as you would any other kind of photo on the iPad; include it in slideshows, e-mail it, or edit it in third-party apps. Your original file remains un-altered and will transfer to your computer exactly as it was on the camera or SD card. These features should allow photographers to use the iPad as a storage, preview, and transfer device for their raw files.
The optimized JPEG that they refer to is 2048-by-1360 resolution and if you use the mail function within the IPad Iphoto app, this is the resolution that is sent.
