Troubles (and a small horror) synchronizing mail

I'm continuing a brief exchange from the end of this thread:
/t5/Messaging-Email-and-Browsing/Nokia-Messaging-amp-Password-Problem-amp-GMail/m-p/659135#M24020
The short version of the story is that for a while now I've been using Nokia Messaging in a "weird" state - when I started using it, I couldn't have punctuation in my e-mail password, so rather than make my e-mail account password less complex I changed my Nokia Messaging login password and left the e-mail account password alone.
That worked fine for a while - the only drawback being that I couldn't *send* mail, only *receive* it.
The other day this came up and someone (bretj) suggested that I should be able to set this back up correctly and have it work.  So I tried tackling that today.
First I changed the Nokia Messaging password on the web, and almost instantly the phone asked me for the new password.  So I put it in, and that seemed fine.  Then I tried sending a message, and it behaved just as before - it sits in the outbox and after a few minutes the program just gives up on trying to send it.
So I removed the account from the phone and re-ran the setup.  No change.  So I uninstalled the e-mail application from the phone and re-installed it; it took a few tries before I could get the account set up again (a couple of times it gave me the option to add this new account to my Nokia Messaging service, then said I hadn't provided enough information.  Of course I hadn't!  I have a few specific gripes about the setup program but this isn't the time).  I fought with it for a while and kept ending up at the same spot, where it looks like it has worked but there are no e-mails, and I know for a fact that I had dozens of e-mails in my inbox (I'm like that; e-mail sits in my inbox for a while).
So I went to the computer and checked my e-mail, as a sanity check, and found out that actually all of my e-mails from this month (since 3 March) have been deleted.  From the computer I sent myself a test e-mail message and it showed up (at home and on the phone), so that part works.  Sending e-mail still doesn't behave any differently on the phone, which is to say that it still doesn't send e-mail.
So:
1) I'm EXTREMELY annoyed that a month's e-mail is just gone.  This seems like something that happened when I was removing or setting up the e-mail account on the phone.  I can't imagine how it would have happened.  Really "annoyed" doesn't really cover the horror of seeing around 50 e-mails irretrievably deleted.  What was there?  I know I had e-mailed myself a few reminders, of ... something.  Can't remember what.  It's why I send myself reminders.  Also lots of correspondence.
2) I still can't send e-mail.  There don't appear to be any server-side logs for me to look at.  The log file that I can see on the phone is mostly full of glowing reports of success, and the following lines:
* Info Synchronizing Outbox...
* Info Sync mode: Slow sync.
* Error Unsupported error code (Error code: 65535).  Error occurred in EaPlugin while processing response from server.
* Error Unexpected Server Error
So.  Any hints on why I might be having trouble sending e-mail?  I'm going to have to just get over losing a month of e-mail but I'd really like it if I could send e-mails from my phone.

I see the same error code although my symptom is that my inbox has stopped updating on the phone  - i can only see emails from a few days ago.
I was planning to reinstall etc but you said that doesn't really work.

  • I have trouble seeing the small icons for the program functions in this tutorial.

    Hello,
I have my assets from an older site, and want to start a site desktop site in muse. Is there a program ( maybe a book ) that can walk me through this step by step, instead of the Katie's Cafe demo / tutorial?
The problem with the tutorial is in the dark interface I have trouble seeing the small icons for the program functions.
I really need to setup a new site as soon as possible, but am not getting there right now.
    Thanks.

  • Trying to restore a photo that is torn, ripped and missing small areas. help please

I have an older photo of my hubby's mom and all the kids around her but it hasn't been taken very good care of at all and it has rips and tears and some small areas are missing.
What I have been doing is using Photoshop 5.0 and Full Edit. From there I have been blowing the photo up to 616.87% to 821.05% so I have allot of pixel to see what the heck I am trying to do.
Then I have been using the Healing Brush Tool with the brush at 2 pixel and the Hardness at 82% and the Spacing at 20%. 0 Angle with 100% roundness and using the stylus wheel. The mode is Normal and for Source it is on Sampled.
So far I have had wonderful results with the car and his moms hair. For those two things there really isn't much of a color variance. But I am really having trouble with some large tears around faces. With the shadows and such.
I am especially having a problem with is that some of the pixels in the picture on the edge of the rips are shades of a violet and shades of green.
This picture is something that I would like to be able to give him for Father's Day and in a frame. I have been working on this in secret for the last few weeks and have made some headway. yay.
But I really could use some help here. I've been reading just about everything there is on different things that can be done but I hope that it gets somehow easier and more efficient than what I've been doing so far.
    Thanks for the help

Yes, I second the recommendation for Katrin Eismann's book. She is just great. It's for Photoshop, but you can do about 90% of the stuff in PSE, too.
EDIT Matt Koslowski has a book on using Elements for restoration, but I can't comment because I've never seen it in person.

  • Synchronizing Mail on two computers

I use two computers: my MacBook Pro and an iMac. I'm pretty good about keeping the appropriate files backed and and/or synchronized on both machines. I have a problem with Mail, though.
    Here's what I know:
Mail messages are stored in user/library/mail/ and then in various folders that are the names of my various e-mail addresses. They are stored as numbered files, i.e., 74056.emlx.
During the course of the week, because I don't synchonize every day (can't, really), a message may end up on my lap top with the same number as one that ends up on my desk top, but they may be completely different messages. In the past, I've been able to resolve the conflict by letting ChronoSync do it's job and then rebuilding whatever mailbox I knew to have a message header that no longer represented the real message.
But now, when I rebuild, hundreds of messages I have deleted return, and create duplicates or triplicates in my mail folders. I have deleted them from the server, I have used "erase deleted messages" from the drop down menu, and I am, as I write this, using Mail Scripts to search and delete.
That said, what am I doing wrong? I want to keep neat orderly duplicate free mail boxes without losing the important info that various messages still contain.
    Suggestions?

Synchronization of local mail data between computers by means of a file synchronization utility is a really bad idea if more than one computer is allowed to access mail between synchronizations.
Mail uses a global Envelope Index file to keep track of every message within the ~/Library/Mail/ folder. If this file is modified on both computers between synchronizations, there is no way a file synchronization utility can handle the situation properly.
Another more subtle and dangerous issue is that Mail may use different *.emlx sequence numbers to name the same message on different computers, or worse yet, the same sequence number to name different messages. The only thing a file synchronization utility can do about it is create duplicates of some messages while overwriting (i.e. losing) others.
Mail data “synchronization” at the filesystem level can only be done reliably if it’s a one-way operation, i.e. if the entire contents of the Mail folder on one computer are overwritten by the entire contents of the Mail folder on the other. You should think of the ~/Library/Mail folder as if it was a monolithic entity.
BTW, this is not a Mail thing. Although the granularity may be different, you would encounter similar issues with any other mail client because there is no way you can avoid the same files being modified differently on both computers if you use both between synchronizations. The only reliable way to achieve mail synchronization between computers is using an IMAP account and storing mail on the server.

I cannot send an email from my iPad 2? No problem receiving, why does this happen? Have tried the suggestions for setting up email and after doing the sync mail through iTunes receiving worked great but still cannot send? Any help would be great!

The fact that you can receive means you have a valid e mail address, and have established the connection to the incoming server, so all of that works.  Since the send does not work, that means your outgoing server is rejecting whatever settings you used formthe outgoing set up.  Try them again.
Google your particular isp, and ipad and many times you will find the exact settings needed for your isp.  Or tell us here, and soneone else may be on the same isp.  Some mail services need you to change a port, or have a unique name for the outgoing server.
    Kep trying.

  • I've updated my Macbook Pro and my iMac with Maverick, updating the various apps. On my Macbook, everything functions perfectly. On my iMac, I get the Your System has Run out of Application Memory, and it's based our Mail, the only app not updated. Ideas?

    Maverick and Your System message
I've updated my Macbook Pro and my iMac with Maverick, updating the various apps (Pages, Aperture, iPhoto, Numbers & iMovie, too) in the process.
On my Macbook, everything functions perfectly. On my iMac, I get the Your System has Run out of Application Memory message. But it's not Calendar, it's Mail that not only won't open, but when it does now, it takes the entire system out with it.
I open Safari, and it works. I open Firefox, and it works and Safari still works. I open Calendar and it works, Safari and Firefox continue to work. I open Reminders, and everything still works.
I open Aperture, and it opens Finder instead, showing the 3.5 update that was installed two days ago (and Aperture has functioned), but doesn't seem to update the app; after about 20 seconds the update disappears and I can now open Aperture and it shows I'm now opening the updated Aperture, which it didn't show before.
I click on Mail, and the cursor spins for ten minutes. The mail window finally opens, but the cursor spins and does not connect to upload new mail, and I finally Force Quit Mail. Since the Maverick update, even though Mail was not updated (and maybe because Mail was not updated), I have been able to receive emails twice, and then the program crashed.
Besides the Aperture app, Pages didn't fully update on the iMac, and I had to remove the old Pages icon from the dock after the new program loaded up from Applications.
    Any ideas?

  • Internal and Public DNS conflict breaks mail

    History:
We set up a new Mac Mini Server to replace our existing Server. The Mac Mini Server is setup behind a Time Capsule, which acts as our router and DHCP server. It also acts as our firewall on the public IP address and forwards mail to our internal server. Our situation is almost identical to the example situation on page 18 to 19 in the 'Getting Started' guide.
Our ISP acts as our DNS server and they host our public website. They also used to host our mail, but we have now moved the mail to our new in-house server. We asked our ISP to update their MX records to point to our static public IP address. Public DNS records for server.mydomain.com also resolve to this IP address.
When we originally set up the new mac mini server, the ISP had not yet updated the MX records. I am wondering if this affects how the Server sets up DNS on the local server machine?
    Issue:
The local server machine on the local LAN is called server.mydomain.com, which resolves via local DNS (hosted by our server) to the server's internal IP address. (The local DNS server was setup automatically by the Server during initial installation / setup.) This conflicts with with public DNS records which identify server.mydomain.com with our public IP address at 205.200.19.225. This somehow causes confusion for the server which consequently seemingly randomly resets our domain (mydomain.com) and host name (server.mydomain.com) settings under Mail settings - which breaks our mail service. (We then edit these to the correct settings and all works again.)
I spoke to an Apple tech and they advised that we reinstall the Server operating system, using a local server name that differs from the public name. e.g. server.mydomain.lan (local) vs. server.mydomain.com (public).
*This may seem like a dumb question*: Would it be easier to keep our local host and DNS set up to server.mydomain.com and then rather have our ISP change the records for our public address / IP to mail.mydomain.com or public.mydomain.com? If we could make the change via the ISP's records versus our own, then it would save us a lot of work.
*A second potentially dumb question:* Since we rely on our ISP for DNS name servers, could we delete / stop the local DNS server for the local network and just use straight IP addresses instead?
    *Plan of Action:*
Assuming that there is not an easy fix via the ISP's DNS records, then I'll reinstall the operating system and use server.mydomain.lan as the local machine and domain name. If I do this, then what should I be using as the domain and host name settings in mail? .com or .lan?
Should there be any need to manually configure DNS settings to make Mail work?

Mr Hoffman and Corbywan - thanks for the interesting and educational discussion. I must admit that I am still a bit confused and would appreciate any further help in understanding this issue!
    *My situation:*
    - Server on a LAN, which sits behind a Time Capsule router.
    - The Time Capsule router serves DHCP and Internet to the LAN and sits on our public static IP Address.
    - Our ISP has set up MX and domain records to forward public requests for our domain to our static IP address.
    - Time Capsule acts as our firewall and forwards Mail and other incoming services to our internal server via port forwarding.
    - Local DNS service is provided by the local server so that it can provide services to the local network. Non local requests are forwarded to the ISP DNS service.
    *The problem*
We seem to have established that Snow Leopard Server breaks when the internal domain name matches the public domain name, because of conflict between the internal and public DNS which resolve to different IP addresses for the same domain.
    *The solution*
I am looking for the easiest and most basic way to fix this problem. My understanding is that the simplest would be to reinstall our Snow Leopard Server to a new and different local domain name.
I am thinking of using server.example.lan for our local LAN domain name - which would be resolved to our private IP address via local DNS on the local server. I would be keeping server.example.com for our public domain name - which would be resolved to our public IP address, which would be forwarded from the Time Capsule to the internal server.
Now where I start getting confused is this: If Snow Leopard Server requires a Fully Qualified Domain Name to do things like send mail, then do I need to register my internal domain name? And how would this resolve from a public DNS server to the internal private IP address? Or is it more an issue where as long as the internal (albeit 'fake') domain name does not conflict with an existing public domain name?
    *Other items:*
After setup, I will verify that Snow Leopard Server has setup our local DNS correctly for local DNS service.
If I understand correctly, I would set up Mail Settings - 'Domain Name' as the local domain name: i.e. example.lan and I would set up the Host Name as server.example.lan - is this correct? Would this work if these are not FQDN?
How does the mail server reconcile these local domain names with the public domain names? I assume that I need to check the box at Mail - Settings - Advanced - Hosting: "Include server's domain as local host alias" ? Or would I manually add an alias to the Local Host Aliases under the same tab?
    Thanks!

  • Updated my mac to mountain lion 10.8.3 and now my app store, mail or facetime won't open. Also, I am not longer able to play videos through firefox. I tried downloading the combo for mountain lion and it refuses to install? Can anyone help me?

updated my mac to mountain lion 10.7.8.3 and now my app store, mail or facetime won't open. Also, I am not longer able to play videos through firefox. I tried downloading the combo for mountain lion and it refuses to install saying that I need to see developer. Whenever I try to open my appstore, mail or facetime it says that the programmes need to be installed and might not be compatible with this version of mac operating system. Can anyone help me?

It's not a bad install of Mountain Lion. I've had the same thing happen to me, but it affected not only Mail, but a variety of other programs including iPhoto and MS Office, where I had to delete preferences, caches, and reinstall the OS as well as the program itself. I'm still having issues with Mail, so I've gone to another program.
Everything was fine upon the initial install. I restarted my iMac about two weeks after the install, and that's when the issues began to happen. I've reinstalled Mountain Lion twice, but the same issues arise.
As I mentioned above, you'll need to figure out which preferences are causing the issue, then reinstall the program, as a fresh reinstallation will do you no good unless you wipe the drive completely.
Here's a thread that helped me with iPhoto:

    Hello:
You need to contact "epost."  The issue is not an Apple issue....the epost software needs, I assume, to be updated.

  • I have 2 POP accounts and 2 IMAP accounts in Mail.....

I have 2 POP accounts and 2 IMAP accounts in Mail 6.2 (1499), how do I ensure they all leave messages on the server?
I was trying to check with my ISP why they were not sending me notice of my monthly bill. They said they were, and gave me the dates of when the missing ones were sent. They went to check my inbox so that they could re-send the offending messages and said there were no messages there! Hence my question, How do I make sure that messages are left on the server? I have looked in Mail/Preferences, and certainly in the POP accounts the Remove copy from Server is unchecked, on the IMAP accounts, there doesn't appear to be a means of leaving on the server, which, in essence, shouldn't worry me because they are different ISP addresses, (1 = icloud and the other is BT.) and only the one address of the POP account is the one the ISP is sending messages to me.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?
    Thanks

I have, indeed, checked with my ISP and they do accept imap accounts. So I followed religiously their instructions, published in their setting e mail information for Mountain Lion website. The instructions were quite simple, and choosing imap was as easy as setting POP mail. however, the net result was that I could never connect with the servers to do anything with the mail. I know they are set up correctly, but when it tried to send mail, after a while an error message came up saying that it couldn't connect and gave me the option of dealing with a "connection doctor" or some such system. This I clicked on and noted that there were an awful lot of servers that it was trying to connect to some of which had been removed when I removed the setup addresses. The ones I wanted were, in fact, showing as connected!! It was obviously checking on anything that had been used in setting a server name from way back when and suffering with a severe bout of indigestion!
I think what really needs to happen is to get iMAC/Mountain Lion to regurgitate all that rubbish which is no longer a requirement, since I am only using three addresses, one from icloud and two from my ISP. I do not need the clogging up from redundant server names, but it seems that the MAC hangs on to everything just in case I may want to go back to them rather than set them from afresh!! I am not feeling too confident in trying to set the address that originally showed the problem, my BT one, and since this morning, it is almost working 100%, I'll leave well alone and see if it settles down. (One step forward and nineteen backwards!!)
    Cheers

  • How can i check my mails on the iphone and make sure that the mail wont pop up again on my computer ?

How can i check my mails on the iphone and make sure that the mail wont pop up again on my computer/ will be deleted on the server ?

For that kind of connectivity you need to be using an email account configured either as IMAP or Exchange.
IMAP & Exchange accounts will maintain a sync across all your devices, so if you read / delete a message on your phone, it will disappear from the server as well. This cannot happen in POP email accounts.
If your using gmail, instructions on how to set up exchange / imap are here http://www.google.com/support/mobile/bin/answer.py?answer=138740&topic=14252
Alternatively, if its anything other than Google, you will need to contact your email providor or IT department (if your email address resides with an enterprise environment) to get the correct settings.
    Hope this helps!

    Hi,
According to your descriptioin, I don't think this is system problem, it should be Intel driver problem. It would be contact Intel to confirm this issue whether this is their driver problem.
