Troubles saving a booklet from indesign 5.5 to a pdf file format

Don't know what im doing wrong here but i can not
seem to get my book to save to a PDF FILE can anybody help fast. this needs to be sent to the print shop asap
so i can make my deadline for my collage paper !

You can also use File>Export and export to a PDF from InDesign but as Claudio mentioned, you would want to find out what settings the printer wants. Typically the Print preset in InDesign is god enough.
Or you could use the Package feature in InDesign to package all of the needed files up and send all of that to the printer (assuming they have InDesign.)

  • Hello, is there a way to export or save layers from Indesign to separate png or pdf -files?

    Hello, is there a way to export or save layers from Indesign to separate png or pdf -files? I have a Indesign document with serveral layers and I need them as separate png files.
    I know that is is possible with Illustrator but can't find it for Indesign.
    Thanks a lot.

    The script Peter's noting is in #122 here:
    how to export indesign layers to photoshop layers (same structure)
    It is OSX only and exports PDFs for creating Photoshop layers. The exported PDFs get trashed so if you can use AppleScript I can edit out the Photoshop part post a version that only saves the PDFs

  • Print booklets from InDesign.

    I used to create print booklets from InDesign but this option disappeared with version CS5. Is Adobe doing anything about restoring this feature? What are my options in the meantime?

    Are you patched to 5.0.4?
    I run XP SP2, rather than 3, and Acrobat 9 pro (now at version 9.3.2) and I haven't had a problem using Print Booklet to make a PDF, so I suspect either it's something in SP3, or more likely a problem on the system.
    First thing might be to try replacing your preferences. See Replace Your Preferences
    Next might be to unistall the PDF printer and reinstall it (does it work outside of Print Booklet?). Make sure you update Acrobat first, if you haven't already done so.
    If neither of those works, see if there's anything else running in the background that could be causing a problem.
    Finally, if nothing is working, it's time to look at a scripted solution. I know two scripts, both by Dave Saunders, that can handle simple two-up saddle stitch impositions without creep. One is better than the other if you have objects crossing the spine, but neither is as sophiticated in what it can do as Print Booklet, which can handle perfect binding with various signature sizes.

  • Will InDesign CS6 and CC have same file format?

    Hi all...
    A fairly simple question: Do anybody know whether InDesign CC will retain the same file format from InDesign CS6, so you can open files made in both application. Say you subscribe to CC and work for somebody who one have CS6? Will you did be able to use files without any issues?

    Thanks for the quick reply, Peter.
    If InDesign CS6 is indeed included - and I have read the same thing - it will do.
    It is a bit of a mess that the file format change from version to version, especially now when the CC apps is just going to be called CC and is always updated to the latest version. Eventualy we might have to work with CC 1.0, CC 1,5 and CC 2.0 files unless Adobe have some kind of brilliant solution. Oh well....

  • How do I keep my macbook pro from automatically rearranging my folders and PDF files on my desktop

    How do I keep my macbook pro from automatically rearranging my folders and PDF files on my desktop?  It seems to happen a lot after I've hooked my laptop to my Thunderbolt in my office and then I unhook my laptop to go present at a clients of taking my laptop home to work.  Every once in a while if even places all of my folders and PDF files in the far upper left corner of my screen.  Needless to say, having to constanly rearrange my desktop is extremly annoying and would love to know what the fix is for this problem.  Thank you in advance for any help offered!

    Thanks for the tip "baltwo", unfortunately my desktop settings were already set to NONE.  I've had one of my IT guys here this moring helping me look through all of this and we're at a wall trying to figure out why it's doing this.  This morning when I docked to the Thunderbolt all my folders and PDF files are in the upper lefthand corner stacked on top of each other almost out of view.  If I go to settings, displays, and swith to mirroring, all the folders and files go right back to where they're set up on my MacBook desktop, but I lose the ability to utilize the entire screen of the Thunderbolt.  Very frustrating to say the least and after searching through and reviewing several forums, Apple is very much aware of this issue and seems to be keeping silent on the issue.  Hoepfully they'll launch a fix soon!
    THANKS again for the tip, it's much appreciated!

  • Encoding Fonts from InDesign to UTF-8 for PDF SEO

    I have the topic that I export documents out of InDesign CS3 into a PDF file. Does anybody know how to adjust the font encoding to UTF-8.
    Now I always get the ANSI coding in each PDF. The result is that the PDFs can't be accessed and indexed by the search engine spiders.
    Who is able to help me?
    Thanks ahead.
    Thomas

    How do you find the UTF encoding?
    I took an inDesign-created PDF and saved as PDFXML. When I unzipped it, the container file looks like this:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <container version="1.0" xmlns="urn:oasis:names:tc:opendocument:xmlns:container">
      <relationships xmlns:pdf="http://ns.adobe.com/pdf/2006">
        <relationship type="metadata" target="$path.xmp"/>
        <relationship type="pdf:annotation" target="$path.ann"/>
      </relationships>
    </container>
    Then I resaved the file as PDF and it grew from 4.1 to 4.3 MB. I've no idea if saving as xml changed the encoding, but I'd be curious to find out.

  • Can links from InDesign or InCopy Articles use non-file: URLs?

    I am trying to determine if InDesign CS6 or newer provides any way for links to be to URLs that are not file: URLs. For example, I am using a CMS that provides HTTP access to images. I would like to do something like:
            <Link
              Self="uf3"
              AssetURL="$ID/"
              AssetID="$ID/"
              LinkResourceURI="htp://myrepository.com/resource/binary/myimage.jpg"
           />
    My experiments suggest that this will not work but I'm hoping I've overlooked something.
    Another wrinkle is authentication: for access to the CMS the URLs need to be authenticated, which means InDesign would need to get then authentication information on at least first resolution.
    Is there a way to do this out of the box? If not, what would be required in terms of plugin implementation or library deployment to enable it? Back in CS3 days we were able to use some unsupported libraries to get URL resolution working but it would be nice if it worked out of the box.
    Thanks,
    Eliot

    As far as I know there is nothing new in CS5 (or CS4 for that matter) regarding which styles are retained when exporting frames to InCopy. If you're exporting an individual story (text frame) from ID to IC, the only styles in that ICML file will be the ones used by the text in the story. If there's no text in the story -- you're exporting an empty frame -- then the ICML file won't have any styles.
    It's been this way as long as I can remember.
    What you need to do in InDesign is keep some fake text in the text frame to which you've applied the styles you want the InCopy users to use. Export that, then in InCopy, open it up, delete the text, and the styles will remain. Now you can save it as an actual InCopy template file (ICTD? something like that) from the Save As menu, and when IC users open it, it'll create an untitled, empty copy of the starter InCopy document with all the styles.
    In a non-Woodwing workflow, InCopy users open the actual INDD file and so have access to all the styles, even if the story frame they want to work on in that layout is initially empty. Or, they can import (Load) all the styles from an InDesign doc into their standalone InCopy file from the InCopy Paragraph Style panel menu (Load All Styles).Not sure if you can do the latter w/Woodwing.
    I was pretty sure that Woodwing had a different way of creating InCopy templates, something like InCopy article templates? Not sure.

  • Cannot print directly from InDesign CS5, must export to PDF

    My co-worker and I have not been able to print to our Ricoh Aficion SP C811DN from InDesign since upgraded to CS5. We both experience similar errors (ERROR: undefined, OFFENDING COMMAND: o [or C, or some other letter] and then STACK: XXX). We are both running Windows XP, I am 64-bit, she is not. The only workaround thus far is exporting to PDF and printing from there.
    I have tried printing single random pages and omitting graphics but neither of these seems to work. I did create a new document and inserted a single black box with white text and that printed just fine, but anything more complicated won't print.
    Thanks for your help in advance.

    Honestly, that’s the general advice anyway.
    I never print from InDesign. It’s just not that efficient.
    BTW, Windows XP64 is completely unsupported. Time to move to Windows 7.

  • For email links from state of Montana employees to pdf files: Firefox pulls up a blank screen but Internet Explorer pulls up the pdf file.

    Whenever I get an email from a state of Montana employee with a link to a pdf file, the link does not work - it just pulls up a blank screen in Firefox. However, when I put the same link in Internet Explorer, the link works and the pdf file appears on my screen. This prevents me from efficiently using email. Here is an example of a link I recently received: "As noted in the [http://leg.mt.gov/content/committees/interim/2011-2012/water-policy/agenda/wpic09132011.pdf agenda pdf] agenda, the Committee will discuss a variety of water-related topics..."

    How do I install the Firefox plugin it's talking about on that page?
    I only see directions to install Adobe Reader.
    I cannot install a different version of Adobe. As I mentioned above, I do not have Admin privileges on this computer.
    This is the version of Adobe that my employer has decided we will be using, and I do not have a vote.
    I can change internal settings, and I can install Firefox plugins, but I can't install programs themselves - I don't have the necessary Admin rights to do so.
    Thanks anyway, but I don't have the Admin rights needed to install Adobe Reader in the manner mentioned in this article. (I have the full Adobe Acrobat XI version 11.0.09).

  • Problems with 'Print Booklet' from InDesign CS4

    I am having problems using the 'Print Booklet commane in InDesign CS4. I have done this 100s of time from CS3 with no problems but for some reason it just won't auto duplex (print on both sides of the paper) when I do it from CS4. USing exactly the same settings, computer and file. The printer is setup correctly as will print double-sided automatically from other apps. Using mac leopard. Any ideas?

    Unfortunately, I have tried this. I choose 'layout' from the printer option within the driver  and pick 'short edged binding'. Still no luck.

  • Why does "Print Booklet" from Indesign CS5.5 only create low res pdf? How do I get High Res for Offs

    Long time ID user in Agency. Created a simple 4 page brochure in CS5.5 ID. Facing pages for cust size 11x17 half fold document.
    Generating the pdf for Press and HQ Print renders a nice high res document, but the print booklet feature only produces a skinny low res version. Tried to mess with the printer settings, but the result is the same with a skinny low res document.
    I didn't want to recreate the brochure as a two page manually imposed as I like the option of being able to add more pages in increments of four of course. Plus it's just silly to do that when ID is supposed to handle it for me.
    I worked around it this time by printing to .ps output then distilling, and then splitting the document so printer could have a "front" and "back" 11x17. But this seems kludged big time. This has to be a bug unless I am missing something.

    You probably never changed the default settings in the PDF printer properties. In the print booklet dialog, click the Print Settings button, then the Setup button at the bottom of the Print Dialog that pops up, choose the PDF printer and click on Preferences. Reset the default reset the default settings to the ones you really want to use, or reset them in Windows... Control Panel > Devices and Printers... Double-click the PDF printer, then from the print queue dialog, Printer > Properties... General tab and clcik the Preferences button.

  • Saving a postscript from Indesign 3

    Hi
    I'm trying to save a postscript through the print menu using acrobat 9 as the printer. I get a box come up which says "the save pdf and save as pdf postscript options are not supported. I'm using the same method i have in the past on another machine in CS2. I'm using leopard and not connected to any printers. I tried adding one ( so i could just make .ps files through it but was unable to (as machine just looks for printers).
    Any suggestions very welcome.
    Thanks

    >Has nothing to do with Intel Macs.
    I think it actually does. If one attempts to save a PostScript file using the OS (
    i.e., by pressing the "Printer ..." button in the lower left of the InDesign Print dialog box, and then selecting "Save as PostScript..." from the "PDF" menu in the lower left of the Mac OS X Print dialog box), the process will fail on an Intel Mac as described by RachelE. It will succeed on a PPC Mac.
    So the probable solution is to save the PostScript file using InDesign itself rather than the OS. To do this, select "PostScript® File" in the "Printer" popup menu at the top of the InDesign Print dialog box. This will enable the "PPD" popup menu where you can select the PPD you want to use.
    However there is one weakness in this mechanism. You cannot access the complete range of PPD options in the InDesign print dialog box, only the ones that InDesign displays. So, if you do not need to access those "extra" PPD options, this will work for you, and will probably produce more reliable PostScript in any case. If you do need to modify those other PPD options, though, you are out of luck when using an Intel Mac, AFAIK.
