Troubles using Flash on Mac OSX

Operating System:  Mac OSx 10.5.8
Web Browser:  Firefox 16.0.2
Flash Player Version:  10.3.183.90
It seems to me I have the latest available flash player version for my operating system but I am still unable to view certain videos or strems.
When I attempt to watch a video I receive the following message "You need Adobe Flash Player to watch this video.  Download it from Adobe."
I have uninstalled my flash player using the uninstall program for the version I have, then reinstalled the flash player. The installation goes fine but I still receive this message when trying to watch a video.
On this site here: http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player.html   It tells me I do not have the latest version of flash player but none of the later versions are supported for my operating system.
Am I missing something here?
Thanks in advance for your help.

My mac uses an Intel core.
Does this mean that I am unable to use flash player in my browser untill I upgrade my operating system?
Yes and no...
If it's a Core™Duo, you're stuck with 10.5.8, because it's a 32 bit processor.
If it's a Core2™Duo, then you can upgrade to Snow Leopard for just $19.99 through Apple.
Either way, 10.3.183.90 is the end of the line for Leopard.
10.5.8, being a "universal binary" OS, has to have compatiblity for PowerPC Macs, and that limits how far it can go with anything. Office 2004 is the newest version that will run on Leopard, and it CAN'T create .doxc, .xlsx. or .pptx documents that 2008 and 2011 use.
Safari can't go higher than 5, Firefox is limited to 16. There's just a lot that 10.5 can't and won't handle.

  • Can't install latest version of flash on mac osx!

I've been trying to install the latest version of Flash on my mac but at 30% the download stops and says that the connection is lost and the installation failed.
I have already uninstalled, ran a clean install, tried other browsers and nothing has been working. Can anyone help?!

    Hello,
I'm assuming your attempting to use the online installer, downloaded from get.adobe.com/flashplayer.  Please try the offline installer, posted at the bottom of the Installation problems | Flash Player | Mac page.

  • I Need a Flash Player - Mac OSX 10.5.8 Intel

I have a MAJOR problem. My flash player had no issues for years but I tried updating it to fix Safari and had to uninstall my Flash player. This created all kinds of problems.
Naturally, when a page tells me to update my Flash player, it brings me to the Adobe page that says my OS doesn't support the latest version of Flash and I need to find an archived version.
From what I've researched, I need to use Flash player 10.3.183.90 .........so I found that archived version. I'm opening the "Install Adobe Flash Player" folder and it just keeps bouncing in my dock...nothing happens.
I'm so frustrated that I don't know what to do anymore. All I'm asking for is a working version of Flash here. Please help me.

I just figured out a possible solution to the bouncing folder issue. Instead of double clicking on the "Install Adobe Flash Player" icon in the .dmg folder, right-click (control-click) and select "Show Package Contents" from the resutling pull-down menu.
Then select the following file: (folder) / Contents / Resources / Adobe Flash Player.pkg
Double-click to open. It should open the installer app "Install Plugin" and will run after you click continue.
I was able to get this archived version of Flash Player working in Safari on OS X 10.5.8 on MacBook Pro 2.6 GHz Intel Duo. It also works within Google Chome, but you have to allow it each time it's called. No workaround for that hiccup.
Huge pain in the *** though! It really feels like Apple and Adobe both don't want you to easily find and install this version of the Flash Plaer, even though many websites still require the plugin to view certain content. In my case, it's content shown on my son's school's e-learning website Egenuity.com — which for us is s non-negotiable, since it's his eduction—not a video game.
This B.S. cost me an hour of time to figure out how to reslove this problem for him. It's unlikely that most parents (or the school's Windows IT staff) are as savvy as me when it comes to troubleshooting these types of Mac OS issues. Which means that other students and their parents with this Mac OS X 10.5.8 (or ealier) setup will face similar frustration. Unacceptable Adobe!

If the OS is not installed on another CPU, then you can install it on any single Mac with which it is compatible.
The software license is indeed on paper, and you can visit the Apple website to find online copies of their license agreements.
In case you aren't aware the Apple Discussions are provided by Apple. Any discussion of illegal uses of software or hardware would violate the Terms of Use for the Discussions. Furthermore, were we to advise you to ignore Apple's license agreements then we would be guilty of abetting illegal acts. • HT4759 How can I use iCloud with MAC OSX Ver 10.6.8?

Mobile Me has been discontinued and my under 3 yr old MAC does not have the system requirements to support iCLOUD.  Trying to find an iphone with an app that will work on a MAC OSX Ver 10.6.8.
    Thanks

You're welcome.  In order to connect to your iCloud account on your Mac it has to be running OS X Lion (10.7.2) or higher.  You would need to upgrade to either Lion or Mountain Lion in order to set up iCloud if your system meets the system requirements.
    Lion system requirements are:
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of memory
    OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
    7GB of available space
Mountain Lion system requirements are shown here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5444.
If you can run Mountain Lion, you can purchase an upgrade from the Mac App Store.  If you can only run Lion, contact the online store in your country and purchase a download code to download it from the Mac App Store.
After upgrading, you will find iCloud in System Preferences>iCloud on your Mac, and can set it up as explained here: http://www.apple.com/icloud/setup/mac.html.
Before upgrading, you may want to check the compatibility of your existing programs by checking here: http://roaringapps.com/apps:table.

  • I installed 5 but now I can't use it with Mac osx - how do I go back to my old version?!

I was prompted to install Firefox 5 on my Mac. Now when I try to open it says I can't use Firefox with osx. How do I go back to using the previous version - has it been written over? My previous version was fine!

Firefox 4 requires at least OS X 10.5 and an Intel Mac. There is a third party version of Firefox 4 that runs on OS X 10.4/10.5 and PPC Macs, for details see http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox
If you prefer, you can get the latest version of Firefox 3.6 from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
Mozilla are working to prevent Mac users with non-compatible systems from getting the notification about Firefox 4, and also not displaying the "Download Firefox 4" button on http://www.mozilla.com

  • I am trying to download Adobe Flash for Mac OSX 10.3.9-help!!!

I get it downloaded to desktop but that is as far as I can get.  I can't get it to open/run.  I'm a pretty basic computer user.  I wanted to download pictures to enter a contest and I need this to do so.  I know the computer is older but it works great, usually.  I'm sure it is the operator that is the issue.  Can anyone help me in simple, layman's words?

Hi, I will try to help you the best I can. We don't seem to have many Mac helpers on the forum. First, I need to ask is did you use the Uninstaller for Flash Player first to remove the old Flash Player files?
I know where that info is and I know where the info is for the Installer. Are you trying to Install the Flash Player vs 10.1.53.64?
Let me know that and are you sure that you downloaded and SAVED to your Desktop the Flash Player for your edition of Mac?
    Thanks,

  • Flash in Mac OSX dashboard widgets

    We're at a dead-end!
We've successfully integrated remote flash into a dashboard
widget. Actualy, making the flash remote, and changing all click
events to onRollOver is the only way to do it (that we've found).
And this works *great* for navigation inside a flash movie.
The problems come when trying to link out of that movie to launch a
Safari broswer page -- the same way Dashboard's custom java call
does. We've tried sending a java call back to a function in
dashboard's local HTML that triggers the appropriate
widget/javascript function -- and that's what throws the security
    error.
Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated.

are you trying to simply get a safari page to open or are you
trying to get a page to appear inside the dashboard?
If you just want safari to load in OSX, why not use getURL???
If you want it to always use the java callback as it does in
most widgets, it may be more of an OSX issue. You may want to check
on security issues on apple's developer site to see what rights or
privledges you need to grant flash access to the same rights or
    privs other widgets already have.

  • Using Flash Player on OSX 10.4.11

I have an old PowerBook G4 17" Laptop with OSX 10.4.11 installed. Flash player 10,1,102,64 installed (latest avail update for my platform)  works perfectly with most websites including Vimeo and Youtube but on Facebook and worldsufleague.com and few other sites it will not work at all. I get a error message. "you are trying to install flash player on an unsupported operating system" I have checked the Adobe technote and all information that follows on from there. I am supposed to be able to disable the Global notifications (which i think might sort it out) but the link to that page no longer exists. If anyone can help that would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks.

Sorry if I wasn't explicit enough.  There's no way to get around this and safely surf the web.  While you could potentially run an ancient version of Flash Player (Archived Flash Player versions), most interesting commercial content is going to require a version that's newer than what is available for your system, and the version that works on your system will be vulnerable to several years worth of security issues that have since been fixed and reverse-engineered by the malware community for use against unpatched systems.
The PowerPC CPU is incompatible with the Intel binaries that we currently ship, and it's been that way for a couple of years at least, so there's zero way to get a version with any of the modern features.  FWIW, while not free, a $250 Chromebook would offer you a far superior experience.

  • No Audio In Flash w/ Mac OSX Lion

Since the upgrade to Lion I have no longer had any audio in flash videos. I can get to the settings menu on flash videos to Allow them, but can't tick any of the options. Although, this is something I've *never* had to do in OS X over the years. Any ideas as to why I can't get audio now? I've made sure everything in Syst Prefs was correct, which it seems it is, something with Lion defaults to not letting me lol at the internets.
Also, this is the same across the Browser board - Safari - Chrome and Firefox.
As a note as well, this is only on my iMac. My MacBook Air that came pre-installed with Lion plays the audio just fine.
    Player Version - MAC 10,3,181,35
    Debug Player - No
    OS Mac 10.7.0
    Video Yes
    Audio Yes
    Local File I/O Yes

Similar problem here. No sound on YouTube or Vimeo via Flash players. The scrubbing bar in Google Music stands still and does not play (Google Music runs via Flash). I've scoured forums for an answer for weeks. My Audio Midi Setup is okay. (44.1 khz, 16-bit) and system preferences (sound) is set to the correct output. I will have audio in Flash for a while after I first start my computer. After a few hours, very randomly, flash videos will no longer have audio. As one forum stated, opening Garageband and hitting a few notes on the keyboard will correct the problem. For me, this does not. I cannot play any sounds in Garageband. Also, deleting Flash player preferences in ~Library/Preferences/... does not do anything. It should be noted that system sounds still work for me and all music plays in iTunes and Spotify.
The only way I can solve the issue is to reboot the computer. This is a temporary solution however, and the issue happens again after a few hours of use. This did not happen with 10.6.x. I'm speculating that it could be a bug that occurs in systems not preinstalled with Lion. Anyone with a solution?
    Flash Player version - 10,3,183,7
    MacBook Pro (Mid-2009)
    OS X - 10.7.1
CPU - 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    RAM - 8GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Disk Utility did not find any permission or disk errors.

  • Using Terminal in Mac OSX to program and test java

I bought a book on java and it says I should not use a JDK like Net Beans when first learning java.
Right or wrong I would like to know how to use terminal to program and compile simple scripts.
    So my question is:
How do you go about setting up the computer to use terminal to write and compile a java program? I know my Mac sees java in terminal because tells me Im running "version 1.5.0_07"
I just need a link to some info on how to get started using Terminal for my command line with java.
I think if I could get a path set up from the command line to my text file and have javac see it I would be in pretty good shape. At least for now.
If I use a text saved plain text file (.java) how do I set up a path to it using javac from the command line?
Where can I find or link to this kind of info?

    Hi,
seems like you have not tried out a few things.
    1. Set up the JAVA_HOME environment variable. (I assume you pretty much know it) the folder where java is installed.
    2. set up the environment variable to point to the bin folder inside the java installation folder.
    3. open up a console (it seems from your post you know it.), type java -version see the java version.
    4. type in javac, press enter: you should get the javac options.
    5. type in java, you should see the java options.
Write your programs in a text editor, save it as somename.java.
open a console, change to the directory containing the java file.
    type: javac somename.java <PRESS ENTER>
you should get the compilation errors if any.
    if not
    type in: java somename.java
    Hope this helps.
    Regards,
AyusmanStep 1 and 2 are generally not needed. Mac OS X comes with Java configured up and running right out of the box.

  • Trouble with baReadIni on Mac OSX

I’m trying to diagnose this problem remotely so
I’m sorry my info is a little vague at this time. I’ve
got a program that reads and writes to an ini file via baReadIni.
Works fine on Windows XP and Macs in two locations ... but the
client gave the program to a third individual and his system
won’t read the ini file ... I modified the program to give me
some diagnostics and as far as I can tell Buddy API registers
properly, copies the ini file to the user’s prefs folder
without an error, but when it reads the ini file it just returns
the default values. The third party got the project via FTP so
about the only thing I can think of is that maybe the ini file
somehow became unreadable. My diagnostics confirmed the ini file is
in the correct location. Anyone have ideas?

I had an issue a while back with some Macs when using the
    baWriteIni
command. The issue would cause the first item you added to
    the ini file
to become corrupt. This would then cause baReadIni to always
    return the
default value when you were trying to read it back, as the
    entry didn't
exist. For example a line like "test=1" would come up
    something like
    this "st=t" (I can't remember exactly).
I worked around this issue by always adding an unused entry
    to a new ini
file before I added anything of value. For example I add
    (using
    baWriteIni) "buffer=none".
