Troubles with Backup

Hi, I am trying to do a backup of my music. Everything starts ok, ITunes warns me it may need 9 CD´s, I accept and everything goes well until the first CD is full: then i get a message "please insert a blank CD", I do it as requested, but it keeps the message "please insert a blank CD".
Am I doing someting wrong? I guess not but I would like your suggestions.
Thanks,
F

Hi Michele,
I'm afraid you're asking in the wrong place... iSync has nothing to do with Backup.

  • Trouble with backup after reinstalling XP Pro

OK, here we go. I had to reinstall XP due to serious errors. I have backed up my iTunes library to 6 DVD's as suggested by Apple. The music files were both on my C drive and H drive on a second computer (network share). After backing up for one whole day, I reinstalled XP Pro and iTunes 7.5. When trying to reinstall the backup up iTunes music, 1 of the 6 DVD's is not recognized by iTunes. No error messages, it just sits in the drive and iTunes seems to freeze. That's approximately 550 songs I'm missing. Both bought at the Itunes Store as ripped CD's. Moreover, I noticed that exclamation marks were visible after restoring a 2nd backup DVD. I guess that is caused by the fact I changed the music files location to the C: drive instead of the network share H. I was not able to consolidate all music files to 1 location due to the XP problems I had. Luckily, I still got all my music on my iPod, and also have a second backup of all my documents from my C: and H: drive on an external HD. I there a way to restore all my library and files from my iPod or the second backup I made? Please give me your suggestions so I can have a nice Christmas with my music! Thanks in advance.

    A few quick comments/questions, etc:
    1. Now that you have reinstalled Wihdows XP is the Windows Updates up-to-date?
    2. Have you authorized the computer?
    3. Have you logged in with you iTunes username and password?

  • I am having all kinds of trouble with itunes and updating my ipad. when I open up itunes, it seems to just sit there, never going to itunes store. when I connect my ipad, I check update and it starts, but then I get this message:backup can't be saved on

I am having all kinds of trouble with itunes and updating my ipad. I open itunes up but it doesn't do anything except open to a blank screen. I try to access the itunes store but it won't go there. When I connect my ipad, and try to update it, it starts and then I get a message that says backup cannot be saved on this computer. I have tried everything suggested to no avail. This is the 2nd or 3rd time I have had problems with itunes. Sometimes I even get a message that I am not connected to the internet.
I have uninstalled and re-installed. Any help?

You might not have enough space left on your hardrive.

  • Trouble with Time Machine/Time Capsule try Backup instead

Trouble with Time Machine preparing to download taking hogging your system followed by errors that don't make any sense even if you look at the console logs to try to figure out. Try Backup instead.
    Find the software here:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/application_updates/backup312.html
It allows you to configure when to do back ups and specific data you want, and includes templates for configurations to make it easy. The only catch is you loose the Time Machine benefits of restoring an individual file easily. For me it gets around the issues w/ Time Machine hogging my system resources (Finder at 98% CPU cycles both cores) while "preparing backup", followed by strange failures that can't figure out, followed by more "preparing backup".

I was running backup instead of time machine until I saw snow leopard had time machine improvements. I'm very happy with the performance so far w/ snow leopard (OS X 10.6) time machine performance.

having trouble with time capsule, won't find backups

Usually a simple reboot will work.. Reboot the TC..
If that is not enough.. Restart the whole network from off.
Mountain Lion and to a lesser extent Lion.. have network issues and lose track of the TC.

  • I am having trouble with app updates on my iOS 5 iPhone never getting beyond the "waiting" state.

I am having trouble with app updates on my iOS 5 iPhone never getting beyond the "waiting" state. I have tried signing out/in of my account, rebooting and removing/re-installing the apps.  This started shortly after going to iOS 5 but I am not certain if that is related.  All updates that I try now are stuck in "waiting".  I also tried removing the apps and then installing via iTunes desktop sync with no improvement.  The only thing that I have not tried so far is a restore to a prior iPhone backup.  I have not been able to find anything to indciate what the updates on waiting on.  There is plenty of space on the iPhone (16gb available).  Any suggestions on what to try next?

    Hello there, Missy.
First thing I would recommend is to check your downloads queue to make sure there is not an interrupted download per the following Knowledge Base article:
iTunes: How to resume interrupted iTunes Store downloads
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1725
If your download was interrupted using your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
    1. From the Home screen, tap the iTunes app.
    2. For iPhone or iPod touch, tap More > Downloads. For iPad, tap Downloads.
    3. Enter your account name and password if prompted.
    4. Tap the blue download arrow to resume.
If you can't complete the download on your iOS device, you can download it in iTunes on your Mac or PC and then sync it to your iOS device. You can also transfer purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer.
For Apps, you can also try tapping on the application icon to resume the download, as outline in this featured discussion:
App updates won't download on my...: Apple Support Communities
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4111336
Try tapping the App, so that it changes to Paused instead of Waiting, then tap it again to resume the install.
Make sure you don't have any paused downloads in other apps either, like the App Store or iTunes Store.
If that doesn't do it, try resetting or restoring the iPhone.

  • Trouble with my Apple ID on multiple devices

I am having trouble with my Apple ID when downloading app updates.  I go to update my Apps, but the Apple ID for a seperate iPod, that I also sync with this computer, is what appears when the password is requested.  I checked the account in Settings > Store and it is the correct one.  But everytime I attempt to update my Apps, it has the iPod's Apple ID, which is my father's Apple ID.
In short, when I try to update an app on my iPhone, my Apple ID is not displayed, but my father's iPod Apple ID is displayed with a request for the password.  I am not sure what I am doing wrong, but I would appreciate your assistance.

Ok, so you want to remove data (contacts, bookmarks, calendar etc) from other users from your iCloud/Apple ID?
If you want to use your ID for your family because it is the account everybody uses to buy stuff then you only need to ensure that your apple ID is set up in the store (settings-store) and then the users of each device and put their own apple ID in icloud/message/facetime/etc.
To set up your device, in my opinion, it is best to back up to itunes, and then plug your new device into itunes and "set up as ..." and select the backup from your device.  This will import all your data/settings and your new device will be set up just like your old one.
I am not certain about using the same payment method for more than one account.

  • HT201496 Hai there. I am facing trouble with my garageband apple loops.i don't see apple loops in my browser since quite some time i don't know what has happened to it and how it happened . i just wanted to learn some of basic things about music.can you h

Hai there. i am having a trouble with the garage band apple loops to get into my macbook pro. . i had it some time back and i dont know where it has gone and how it get it back. is there anyone to help me to get the loops back into the browser . i will be grateful to you if some one can help me with it/ thanks.

First check, if you do not accidentally have hidden or filtered your loops:
Uncheck the "Filter for more relevant results" option in the Audio tab of the GarageBand Preferences.
And the drop down menu on top of the Loop Browser should be set to "Loops", not to some Jam Pack or other collection.
If you still don't see any loops, check if you have set your project to a special signature, like 9/8, for that no standard loops do exist.
Then check, if any loops actually are installed in your system Library: Depending on your GarageBand version you should find the standard loops in the Audio folder of your system Library (Application Support > GarageBand):
Your System Drive > Library > Audio > Apple Loops
If the Loops are installed, but GarageBand does not show them, you need to rebuild your Apple Loops Index: See the FAQ for how to do it:
    Re-Index GarageBand's Loops
    This requires two steps:
erase the old Apple Loops Index by deleting everything in
Your System Drive > Library > Audio > Apple Loops Index
and then rebuilding the Loops Index by dragging the folder containing all of your loops onto the Loop Browser in GarageBand.
If no Loops are installed in your Library, you will have to restore them from your Backup.

  • Trouble with itunes and time machine

i am having trouble with my iphone and thought it may have been itunes, so i went into time machine and tried to replace my current version of itunes with the last one. I haven't been able to back up to my FreeAgent external hard drive
The TM disk is your backup destination and I assume it is the Seagate FreeAgent disk. The source is your Mac.
Wireless. I have a Seagate FreeAgent external hard drive plugged in by USB to the mac.
You say it is connected via USB, yet your are saying backups are done wirelessly.
From Terminal, can you post the output of tmutil destinationinfo (remove any personal information as you see fit)?

  • Trouble with iCloud

    Trouble with iCloud:
    Equipment:   Mac mini,  OSX 10.7.4
                        iPod iOS 5.1.1
I have done and then repeatedly reread the iCloud instructions on each.
I have up to date copies of Pages running on both devices.
The Pages documents appear on both devices when I look at the iCloud display. There appears no way to download these documents on the Mac mini.    I have tried to upload current documents written on Mac mini (including this one) with no success. There appears to be no ‘save to Cloud’ function.   In addition, there appears to be no way to give a document made on the iPod its own name.  I have  Blank,  Blank 1,  Blank 2 etc.
The other iPod application that is using iCloud is DraftPad
I have no way to determine if Calendar  information is going through iCloud or if it is going back and forth by way of the normal synchronization process.    On the iCloud display I have checked Calendars and Documents & Data on both devices.   There is no    active usage storage indicator bar at the bottom of the display.    When I look at  Management storage I have Pages 2 MB, Mail 1.4 KB, DraftPad 1.4KB   and Backups 0KB.  (I am keeping Time Machine backups on separate external hard drive).
As it stands iCloud is useless and not generating much confidence with me.  I think I would be much happier to make other arrangements.  I’m considering an attempt to cancel my use of iCloud.

On the Mini go to icloud.com, sign in.
    - To upload to an iOS iWorks app click on iWorks and then oh the app you want. Then click on the gear icon in the upper rihgt.. You have option to upload. To download, clcikonthe docuyment you want to download and a download button will appear.
    - To check the Clalender and otheriClud serves, just click in them after signing in to icloud.com.

  • Trouble with Time Machine (runs constantly). Erase and install?

Trouble with Time Machine (runs constantly). Tried re-installation (equivalent of archive install) of Snow Leopard. Time Machine still unable to complete a back-up. Erase and install recommended at Genius Bar. Have backed up data to external HD using Super Duper. Should be a bootable backup. Last successful backup through Time Machine was 6/1/11. Not sure if I can access this back-up if I erase and re-install.
Computer shipped with Tiger (7/2007). Have original disks. Now running Snow Leopard. So: erase HD, install Tiger, then update to Snow Leopard? Start-up from Tiger disks does not appear to work (starting up holding "C" key). Suggestions? Want very much to transfer data to new iMac, but do not want to carry bugs forward. Very nervous about erasing HD. And have the questions above about reinstalling system software.
    Advice desired! Thanks.

Well if you can hold option and boot off the Superdupes clone and it works fine then you should be set to do what you need to do to the original boot drive.
Disconnect all drives and c boot off the Snow Leopard install disk, use Disk Utility to Erase > format HFS+ journaled your internal boot drive.
Quit and reinstall OS X Snow Leopard, setup (do not use Setup/Migration Assitant!) and update to 10.6.8
When you setup the new install, use the same hard drive name and user name as you did before.
Now the free iLife that came on the Tiger disks you won't get naturally, but you can pick them off the disk with the shareware program called Pacifist.
install your programs from fresh sources, this way you don't get the "crap" from the older setup.
Once your machine is up and going. Hook up the clone and transfer your user folders over manually. With iTunes just replace the whole folder. Because you kept the same user and boot drive name as before, the playlists should be fine.
Once your all peachy, take the opportunity to clone this new setup to a external drive, label and disconnect.
Make another clone for day to day, or week to week clone updates and your just a hold option boot away for recovery.
You know Superdupes and Carbon Copy Cloner both have auto-scedualing/updating ability, so you can leave them plugged in and it will perform a update so your clone stays fresh and recent.
But you should keep a clone timed back about a couple of weeks back just in case you install something bad and don't learn about it right away.

  • I am having trouble with a form, won't tab to 2nd page...

I am having trouble with a form I created in Acrobat Pro 10. I created tabs etc, they all work wonderfully in Adobe, but once I uploaded it onto the web-based program for other users, the tabs only work  on page 1, I have to click on page 2 to keep tabbing through.  It won't tab into it.  Any advise?  Also, when the users open it it opens in the web.

    1. The library is separate from the application, so re-installing shouldn't cause an issue with the actual photos. But it would be foolhardy in the extreme to do anything without first backing up.
    2. Often these issues are caused by a damaged Library, so reinstalling doesn't change much.
    FWIW
    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store you can find it in your Purchases List.
    Alternative approach:
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .
    Regards
