Troubles with BootCamp

I recently tries installing WindowsXP on my Macbook Pro. My intention was to partition the drive so I'd have one partition for OSX and the other for XP. Unfortunately I'm found with only the XP partition, the OSX partition no where to be found. I have tried resetting my laptop to factory using the installation DVD but that does not work either.
Has anyone ran into this same/similar issue?
I'd appreciate any helpful advice.

Hello !! I have some troubles with BootCamp and Windows 2008 Server R2... I can't find any graphic drivers for my AMD Radeon HD 6490 !! Heeeelp please
    (I Have a Macbook Pro i7)

Shoooryuken, did you ever get this problem resolved? I have thhe same issue...
I have the 2011 MacBook Pro 15" 2.0ghz Quad Core i7 with integrated Intel HD Graphics 3000 and AMD Radeon 6490M.
I just installed Windows Server 2008 R2 (Which is based on Windows 7) using Boot Camp. After I installed it, the I only have 3 resolution options, all of which are stretched. I checked the device manager and found that the Apple Instal DVD did not work and only a "Standard VGA Graphics Adapter" was installed. It also reports a whopping 16MB of graphics memory
I downloaded the "detect and install" driver utility from AMD (http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx) and it detected my correct OS and downloaded something (driver maybe?). When I clicked install, I recieved this message: "AMD Catalyst Mobility cannot be downloaded due to incompatible hardware/software on your computer. Your computer does not contain a proper graphics adapter."
I don't really know why Windows does not detect the graphics card. Right now I am trying to install the Intel graphics drivers for the Intel HD 3000 integrated graphics... I will report back if I get the integrated graphics running...

  • Bootcamp trouble with new hardrive

After i got a new harddrive, due to the defective harddrives in the 2009-11 iMacs and Apple had to exchange them free of charge, I've been having trouble installing bootcamp in my Windows 7. Everything went smoothly with the partitioning and the installing of W7 and naturally I've had previous experience in doing so, so no trouble there. The problem arises when I try to use the OSX install dvd to install bootcamp. The disc kept spinning for a while and then just ejected it again. So i tried installing manually by downloading bootcamp from the support site. After finding the appropiate version (4.0 < ) I tried using the setup.exe as prescribed in the bootcamp installation manual, but to no avail. Apparantly the version is not the right one. So I deciced to try an older version (3.3) but got the message "The Boot Camp version currently installed on your system does not require this update." which was weird since i hadn't installed any Boot Camp!
So far I have tried 3.3, 4.0.4255, 4.1.4586 and 5.0.5033 but neither of them seems to work. Have installed some of the non-Apple drivers, but i still can't communicate with neither my apple keyboard, my magic mouse or my OSX partition to name a few.
Truly hope anybody has experienced the same issues AND gotten around them.

If you have a Late 2009 or older iMac, you need these Boot Camp drivers > http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1630 You can be sure that these drivers will work with your iMac, because Boot Camp 5 drivers are only compatible with Mid 2010 27-inch iMacs and newer

...any help will be appreciated and thanks

One person had iffy 3rd RAM.
You updated AMD graphic driver too to 11.8+ right? not just Apple's.
Plenty of free space for Windows to play with.
    Do a chkdsk
Boot from Windows DVD and run memtest and also do system check
Restore points are better used, and image Windows
    Rollback drivers works well, too
Some had trouble after NetFrame 4? update in Windows (but not on my 3 computers)
Apple drivers can be iffy and buggy
AppleHFS.sys has been known to be trouble. HFS allows for filenames that NTFS won't.
Paragon has HFS9.x driver that adds write support and does a better job
BC 4.x is still it seems trouble for more than a few (but obviouslly not in the 10s of thousands)

  • I have a MacBook Pro 2006 and installed Windows 7 on it with BootCamp no problem, but the thing is on Windows, there is no sound.

Hello there everybody! I have installed Windows 7 on my MacBook Pro 2006 15' without any problems, and without any modification. I did hear that some users couldn't install it, but I have got it working fine with BootCamp 4.0.1 on Lion. So anyways, when I boot into Windows, there is no soudn, and there is also a Red Light coming from the Earphone/Headphone jack.
What should I do? This problem is really ticking me off because I only insalled Windows to lay some games my friend recommended to me. With no sound, it would be really strange playing them, especially Mass Effect.

Well I / we always kind of assume that someone did all the normal basics first and is still having trouble. And read the instructions in Boot Camp Assistant.

  • Trouble with date

I have some trouble with the date system on my laptop.  Everything is correct on the System Preferences thing.  but when I watch info on a document (e.g. cmd/i) files are registered with dates like 15.6.0034 or 18.5.1119 (Norwegian calendar system dd.mm.yyyy).
I just registered a test person in the Address book, and it showed 18.5.1120, which is  - in fact - many hundred years back in time!  Ihave done what is called PRAM, and I have run disk utility (verify and repair), but test persons and files are still registered in the year 1120. If I'm lucky I'll manage to get a screen picture here to show you.
When I use Pages and things, dates are shown correctly, but it is quite annoying not to know when files were registered or updated.
But I'm sure some of you clever guys will be able to help me!

  • Can't create Windows partition with BootCamp

When I try to create Windows partition with BootCamp I get the same error, no matter what size the partition is set to : "This disk cannot be partitioned because some files cannot be moved" and then keeps giving instructions about formatting the disk as a single partition (after performing a full backup I assume), and then try using BootCamp again.
Does that mean I have to erase and reinstall OS X to be able to do that ? Cause I just did that and I have the same problem. I'm not reinstalling again, it took me an entire day to reinstall all my softwares and run all the updates... Plus it reminds me too much of my Windows days... I'm not supposed to do that on a Mac anyway
Back to the topic... are there any services that need to be stopped during partitioning ? Any software installed that could prevent that ?
What could cause this problem ?

Weird thing is I had no trouble making a partition using BootCamp before I restored OS X, and I had the same softwares installed... or maybe I did that before I installed some of them... Could this be related to any software I have installed ?
And judging by your suggestions I would say that the "iDefrag" option is the only way out of the two to make this work. Sounds a little extreme if you ask me... What happens on the first attempt of creating the partition that would make me choose backing up and/or defragmenting ? ... You don't have to answer that if it's too complicated...
Same thing happened on my other MBP... so as far as I'm concerned, I can only restore one more time and try to make the partition right after first startup. If that fails, then it means it could have been software related... Or maybe restore again, install one more software/utility I use and try partitioning again... and again, and again, until it fails...that way I'll know what caused it...
    Just kidding...
Thank you for the suggestions anyway !

  • I can't install Mavericks on a Macbook pro with Bootcamp

    Hi all,
I tried to upgrade my MacBook pro which was running Lion and Windows 7 installed with Bootcamp, with Mavericks. I ran the installation program from within OS X Lion and after a while, it said that Mavericks cannot be installed because of a bootcamp partition on the disk. Did someone had similar troubles to install Mavericks with a bootcamp partition ?
    Thanks,
    Alan.

The warranty entitles you to complimentary phone support for the first 90 days of ownership.
If you bought the product in the U.S. directly from Apple (not from a reseller), you have 14 days from the date of delivery in which to exchange or return it for a refund. In other countries, the return policy may be different. If you bought from a reseller, its return policy applies.

  • After the installation of win7 with bootcamp Lion stops booting at apple logo. Any help to fix this ?

I installed Windows 7 with Bootcamp on a new iMac 21inch with Lion. Everything went well. While running win7 I installed some software like Daemon Tools and Fear 3. It runs perfectly. When I reboot into Lion (throught Bootcamp) the computer stops at the Apple logo. It stays there for hours. I checked and restored the Macintosh HD but it keeps hanging. After restoring a backup with timemachine everthing works fine and the computer boots into Lion. Rebooting in Windows is working, but again when I reboot into Lion it stops at the Apple logo. Anyone can help me fix this ?
    Greetz
    Dimi

    I have trouble understanding
    When or how ?
When you SET LION to be the default startup disk / OS from Windows Taskbar? from Windows control panel "Boot Camp" where you can also set the default?
If you have any external drives, disconnect them, and anything else.
If you set Lion to be the default in Lion System Preferences control panel "startup disk" - then boot into Windows using Alt or Control panel, then let it restart itself and go into Mac OS X.
Normally trouble booting Mac OS is due to a check disk going on, dirty file system journal directory or from forced hard restarts.
Boot into Recovery Partition Mode and check your partitions and repair. Command R
There are details though that are probably missing.

  • I need all windows vista drivers on imac20" leopard with BootCamp

    Hi Dears,
I have formatted my windows vista on my imac20" and I installed windows Vista again but I found that I don't have sound in the system and the video quality became worse than before, and I can't type in arabic, So I need all the drivers for it to work again as before,
sound, video, keyboard ( I have Multilingual keyboard Arabic & English ),
and what ever drivers you guys think that I will need..
    Thanx & Regards

You can find people here, where even AFTER installing Apple hardware support, they still had audio problems; needed graphic drivers.
Glad it works fine, I'd reserve "perfect." Boot Camp 3 has trouble with the AppleHFS if you look around.
I've heard so many stories of support advice, and I doubt unless they work with BootCamp and Windows on Mac fulltime they know all the ins-outs.
64-bit versions of Vista/7 are still not getting Apple official support. Have to see if the newest iMac changes that, would be a crime, now that it can easily be outfitted with such niceties as 8GB, better graphics, Core i5/i7.

  • Trying to install Win 8.1 with Bootcamp on 2013 Macbook Air

I went to the MS website today and bought a Windows 8.1 license for $119.99.  (I need this software to run some windows-only stuff for work.) Then I tried downloading it to my Macbook Air for use with Bootcamp.
But what MS sold me was a Windows executable... and Bootcamp needs an ISO.  So I went looking for ISO's, and downloaded it from two torrent sites. I made two attempts to get Bootcamp to work with these bootleg ISO's.  In each attempt, Bootcamp burned them to my USB stick, then I downloaded the latest Bootcamp drivers partitioned the HD and started the Windows install.
The windows setup program failed, saying there was no install image on my USB stick.  Maybe I need a different USB file?  Or a different Win 8.1 license?  If I have to go buy an external DVD drive just to install this crapware on my Mac, I'll be ******.
    Can anyone give me suggestions?
    Thanks

Is there anyone nearby with a 64 bit Windows machine (it will need to be 64 bit).
I had one already and downloaded the setup.exe, ran it and once downloaded it gives you the chance to make install media. In that option is a chance to create an iso file and that iso can then be used by Bootcamp to install Windows.
I'm not sure there's a way to do it with a Mac. Maybe someone else will give you a better way.

  • How to Install Windows 8.1 Pro with Bootcamp

I have an early 2011 MBP 15" that's running Mavericks, and I just got Windows 8.1 Pro with an install disc. I'd like to install W8 with Bootcamp, but I can't seem to find any guides on doing this, as most people have retina MBPs which have no optical drive (bad design choice, IMO), so they utilize a flash drive. How would I go about doing this properly?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
With a disc it's much easier to install Windows 8.1 on your MacBook, because the steps are the same as for any other Windows version.
Boot Camp Assistant (in /Applications/Utilities) will guide you through the first steps. Then, follow Apple's steps to install Windows 8.1 > http://manuals.info.apple.com/MANUALS/1000/MA1636/en_US/boot_camp_install-setup_ 10.8.pdf

Searching on the web, most results I found lead to this page, where it is said that the problem is due to badly tuned overcurrent protection, and advocated that unplugging and switching off the computer for a little while gets things back into normal. This does not really work for me; the problem seems to occur more randomly, unfortunately with high probability (my camera is available after less than one boot out of ten).
I tried to ensure that the ehci-hcd module is loaded at boot with the ignore-oc option (with a file in /etc/module-load.d/), to no avail.
I also wrote a script which alternatively removes and reloads the ehci-pci driver until my device is found in lsusb. It is sometimes helpful, but usually not. And even when my device is found that way, it can only be used for a while before disappearing again.
Anyway, such a hack is unacceptable... So, my questions are:
is it indeed related to overcurrent protection ?
is there anything else I can try ?
should I file somewhere an other of the numerous bug reports about "unable to enumerate USB device" already existing ?
If of any importance, I am running linux 3.15.7, because at the time I installed my system, I couldn't get the hybrid graphic card Intel/AMD working under 3.16.
