Troubles with HP Laserjet p1100w -- worked, then won't

I'm so frustrated I could scream. After an easy set-up, hours later, all it will do is 'pause' the printer.
I gave up on getting my old Apple Laserwriter Pro 630 to work (via Parallel to USB cable) on MacOS 10.6. I caved in and bought an HP Laserjet p100w, largely because reviewers on Amazon.com said that Mac install was reasonable.
It was! I downloaded the driver from the HP website, ran the installer. I plugged the printer into my Airport Extreme's USB port. It showed up in the Aiport Utility. I added it using Add Printer via the Printers and Fax Preference pane. I printed. It worked. I repeated the driver installation and Add Printer routine on the MacBook. I printer. It worked.
A few hours later, I turned the printer back on and tried to print. The job went to the print queue, timed out and now it says "Printer Paused".
I tried deleting the print queue and re-adding it. No luck.
I tried to set it up for a wireless connection. While attempting to follow the instructions (http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c02013466&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en &jumpid=regR1002USEN) , it became clear that the Laserjet Printer Utility that's supposed to come up doesn't. All that happens is that an application called "hp LaserJet Utility" launches, but it doesn't display any windows and has no options -- it doesn't do anything. It times out and quits on its own. I've tried reinstalling the driver. Nothing.
I tried printing again from the MacBook and it now says "unable to open device".
I'm stuck, and I am just about crazed for having bought a new printer, see it work immediately, and then fail. What is going on?

Weird. Maybe this has something to do with Bonjour.
I plugged the HP directly into my iMac with the USB cable. It showed up immediately under printers, and I could open the Printer Utility. I tried configuring for wireless, but that did not work. However, printing over USB does.
Oh well. Frustrating that I cannot configure it how I would like to, but if it doesn't bother me this way, I guess I'll live with it until someone helps me understand what's going on here.

Premiere Pro CC slows down, then stops working, then won't work, then it won't quit. So I have to force quit every time.
It does not matter if I am working with HD or 4K - same thing happens.
This began happening about a week ago. Nothing really new has changed. I tried to repair permissions and check this from a new admin account because I know that is what Adobe thinks the answer to every problem is. But it did not change anything.

Used this tip from Adobe and it worked, all running quick and smooth again.

Anyone else having trouble with flash player over working the processor since the security update?

Hi everyone-
Since the last security update (flash player version 11.7.700.169) I have been having trouble with flash player beating the daylights out of my processor. My OS is Windows XP. This only happens on some sites, not all. For example netflix and amazon are fine, but acorn and huffington post videos send the processor into overdrive. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions? I have XP on some machines, and I do not experience any such problems with 11.7.700.179. If I were, I would try two things

WRE54G V2 connects with network, appears to work, but won't allow devices to pass data through

This is the number one problem I've had with the WRE since I got it several months ago.....
I originally set it up exactly in line with the instructions.....I turned off my WEP to prevent security issues at the start....
My WRE starts up, red lights, then blue lights, then solid blue lights....All appears perfect....
That is, until I attempt to use my PDA (HP 27XX) running Windows Mobile 5.....It just won't connect via the WRE......I have to unplug the WRE, then the PDA will connect, no problem, although with a weak signal......
My laptop running a DLink wireless card will connect via the WRE, so I know it works!.....
I have 3 PDA's....all HP, a 24XX, and 2 27XX models....all 3 won't connect through the WRE.....
My Zune also won't connect via the WRE.....not sure why?....
Any ideas?.....

O.k.....I set it up as instructed.....No Go.....not even the Laptop would connect through it this time around.....
The WRE appears in the "site survey", but nothing will connect to it or through it.....it acts like a VERY EFFECTIVE jammer!.....
I'm surprised the "underground" hasn't discovered just how easy it is to use this as a network jammer.....
Since I've owned mine, I'm guessing it's only worked 10 to 15% of the entire time....and NEVER with a PDA or ZUNE.......
Please don't give up on me though, I really do appreciate and need tips and advice getting this thing to work......

Trouble with getting website to work on the Internet

I have been setting up Apple Server software and FileMaker Server on my G4 as n online database and I am trying to get it to serve the Apple test Homepage and a FileMaker site through to the Internet.
I have been through the quick setups and have got the whole thing working using my IP addresses on my Intranet. So I now have a web site fully accessible on 10.0.0.7 and the FileMaker database too - but only on my Intranet. However, when I log on to my external IP address I just get the admin access to my router!
I am sure it is something to do with ports. Everything seems to be on port 80 at the moment, but when I try different ports nothing works at all. Any idea what I am missing? It may even be somthing to do with the way the router is set up.

It sounds like you're on a residential-type router, which probably means you're also on a residential ISP network.
1) Make sure your ISP doesn't block port 80. It's not all that uncommon. If they're blocking port 80, these tests won't work anyway.
2) All you need to worry about in your router setting is either NAT or Virtual Servers -- they both effectively do the same thing for this purpose. The Virtual Servers setting just helps you out more by typically giving you a list of services to choose from so you don't have to type out all the NAT details. You want a Virtual Server or NAT for port 80 to be directed to 10.0.0.7. That should be it. If you are also directing 10.0.0.7 back to 86.139.149.74 in the router, well, I'm not exactly sure what would happen with that. I mean, it sort of creates a loop (traffic from the outside world should go through your router to your server, but you're also telling your router that traffic to your server should go to the external interface on your router).
Is your IP address static or dynamic? If it's dynamic, just check on it to make sure it's still the same -- it's possible that your ISP could be refreshing it often enough to make things difficult.
If your FileMaker web server is running on port 80, then you're not running Apache, which is fine if that's what you want. FileMaker has another level of security settings to it though, so make sure that external clients are allowed to view your databases. I doubt this is the case though, but another thing to keep in mind.

I have trouble with website links not working but they work fine on I.E. it's a problem on quite a few sites .

The problem I'm having is the links are just unclickable . I have checked all the settings and everything seems ok , but the links are not working . Everything is fine in I.E. and I am not having any problems , it appears to only be when using mozilla . On this site http://compare100.com it's the links at the bottom of the page , is any body else having the same issue ?

After a bit more troubleshooting... This appears to be a CSS float clearing issue. In a page with both left and right floated containers, if the float is not cleared in one of various ways, Firefox may render the page properly, but the hyperlinks do not function. By clearing the float in the application of the page footer division, I am able to correct the problem in my web page structure such that all browsers render correctly with working links. When you experience this problem, you won't be able to do anything to Firefox to correct it, the page owner will have to resolve their stylesheets, unless a patch or something comes out to address whatever causes Firefox to behave this way.

Shared printing on 10.3.9 iMac from MBP with 10.5.5 (worked then not!)

Panther 10.3.9 on iMac (Host with HP PS C3180 for shared printer attached via USB) - Leopard 10.5.5 cannot find the shared printer after it was already working for 3 weeks. Shared printer in Leopard disappeared. When attempting to reinstall the shared printer on the MacBook with Leopard it cannot find the shared printer. (At ALL). Have, reset printers (in Leopard), executed Article: HT2275, turned off firewall, on both machines and wireless router, reset both computers and router. Have 4 hours into finding the solution without success. iMac sees the printer when attached to MacBook but cannot print to it. PowerBook will not see the shared printer on the iMac and of course the shared printer function is enabled on the iMac. Any ideas? Jobs hire some of Gates old windows programmers to do Leopard print sharing? HELP!

It is unusual that you still cannot see the 10.3.9 shared printer after changing to the cups browsing protocol (as per HT2275). Is there any chance that you run the Reset printing system after making this change, as this will reset the browsing protocol to Bonjour.
I would also check that the MacBook Pro can see the iMac. If you look at the Shared section of the Finder sidebar on 10.5, does the iMac appear in this view?

We did also tests with a WGB with VLANs connected to a switchport in trunking mode, but this didn't work either. It seems that an infrastructure SSID can only be configured on a native VLAN, and in our case we want to assiociate to a VLAN20. Moreover, if this VLAN/trunk construction should work, we would also have a problem with the management address of the WGB because this must be in the native VLAN1 (int bvi1), which can't be accessed through VLAN20 (on the remote side the WGB can't route between VLAN 1 and 20)...

Trouble with iPhone 5 iCloud backup restore - won't finish

Apple replaced my iPhone 5 free of charge two weeks ago after it suddenly died through no fault of my own (hardware issue).
I updated the software on the new phone and then set it to restore from iCloud.
Two weeks later - the restore still hasn't finished apparently!
Two main issues:
1) How do I get it to finish? i have checked for songs in itunes that are from others' accounts and can't see or remember any, although it is asking me for people's passwords when I turn the phone on. STRANGELY though some of the users it is asking me for I haven't even seen since I've owned an iPhone 5!! How can I determine what it is still trying to download and who these accounts are linked too? I have looked through itunes and can only see songs that I've purchased.
2) Missing photos - I just returned from a cruise when my phone died. When I first restored it, my photos reappeared in the photo stream, and then one day later they all disappeared again!! Obviously they are in the cloud somewhere. How can I recover them??

Trouble with ping localhost not working.

I'm using a Mac Book Pro running Mountain Lion 10.8.2.
Using Xcode I tried to test my app and found an alert box saying a string 'localhost' was not found. Tried to ping localhost and found that the DNS can't resolve this domain. I don't know if it's related but since a few weeks ago I can't use network printers hosted on Windows computers. OS X sees the workgroup and list computers but when I try to connect it throws an error telling the IP is wrong or the connection is lost.
Even stranger is the fact that ping can resolve localhost. (with the dot at the end).
Any help with either of this two issues??

Trouble with Laserjet CM1015 by color prints

Hi together,
I have some trouble with my Laserjet CM1015 MFP. When I make color copies or prints, the 3 colors are shifted about 4 or 5 millimeters.
I have tested it with several toner cartridges. Always the same error.
Does anybody know this problem and a solution therefore?
Please do not answer that I should bring my Printer to the HP service. When I would do that, I assume, that it is more expensive then a new printer.

That is a non-postscript, USB printer. HP's driver is for USB only, because it bypasses CUPS (called a monolithic driver).
Easiest way to get a CUPS driver is install hpijs + foomatic + ghostscript:
