Troubles with installing quicktime : macbook being h e ll !

Hello everybody,
first, i would like to apologize for my bad english, i'm french and i don't speak very well english.
Il will try to explain my trouble :
I'm the owner of a macbook ( MAC OS 10.6 ) for more than four years.
I try to upgrade Quicktime Player, because when i tried to watch movies with it, i got a error message : " You have to upgrade Quick Time, etc " and i folow the link :http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/  and i downloaded it and installed on my computer. It asked me to reboot. I did it. And H e ll was coming on my poor Macbook :
- about five minutes to boot,
- Icons on the desk don't appear
- impossible to launch any process like i-tunes, firefox, teamspeack...
- options of the high menu are disables ( finder, time, wi-fi, bluetooth)
- i can't shut off the macbook normally. I have to force it.
I take a (bad) picture :
I tried to press APPLE-S at the start and used the fsck -fy function, i get :
FILE SYSTEM WAS MODIFIED
After three others trys, i get :
" The volume Macintosh HD appears to be OK. "
I type : " reboot " but it's the same like usual = doesn't work.
I tried to press APPLE shift at the start, nothing changes.
My DVD-reader is broken, i can't ' format ' or reaload Mac OS 10.6, so i'm asking for a solution.
I thank you for any help you could bring to me, and i apologize for my bad english,
cordialy,
Baacha.

Hi,
i can go to the Disk Utility with hard freeze ( and some icons don't appear ) but when i double click on Disk Utility, nothing happens.

  • (Trouble printing) Trouble with connection between Macbook Pro and Hp Deskjet 1510.

Trouble with connection between Macbook Pro and Hp Deskjet 1510. (Nothing Prints).
I have a Macbook Pro and am having difficulty printing documents from ‘Pages' from my Hp Deskjet 1510. I have installed the necessary software for the printer and it is connected via USB. Every time I try to print the printer icon comes up as it should, 'printing' and then 'job completed' and then the icon disappears. (Nothing is printed.) I thought it might be something to do with Pages compatibility with the printer but exporting the document to Word or making it a PDF doesn’t change anything. I don’t have Microsoft Word on my computer. The scanner does work and when I printed a ‘Test Page’ that worked too.
Let me know if you know why this is happening.

With these settings the network now works flawlessly, however, when i have my ethernet cable plugged in, my internet access via my airport card(on the macbook pro) is no longer available. Hoping you can tell me why this would be with this info i've provided.
Educated guess. The networking devices have priorities as to which are used. The standard order is that Ethernet has a higher priority than Airport.
While your Ethernet is unplugged it is inactive and the Mac ignores it. Once you plug it in, the Mac sees that it is active and switches traffic to that interface.
I actually take advantage of this feature at home, but configuring my Airport and Ethernet with identical fixed IP addresses. Normally I'll use Airport, but if I'm copying a huge file and I want faster performance, I'll just walk my MacBook (previously iBook, previously Powerbook) over to my Ethernet switch and plug in my MacBook. Magically, the Mac detects that the Ethernet is active and continues the file transfer uninterrupted over the faster 100baseT Ethernet connection. When the transfer is finished, or if I really need to move back to the Comfy Chair, I unplug the Ethernet cable, and all activity reverts back to the Airport, all without disrupting any existing networking connections.
You on the other hand have totally different settings for your Ethernet and your Airport, so when you switch to Ethernet, you basically loose your Airport connections.
    Something you can try:
    System Preferences -> Network
Gear icon on the bottom left, next to the [+] [-] icons.
    Select *Set Service Order...*
Now Drag the network interfaces into the perfer priority order you want. In this case put Airport above Ethernet.
NOTE: You may want to create a new Network Location for this, instead of messing with your normal home Location (which is most likely the default Automatic. That way you have your original you can always fall back to.

  • I'm having trouble with installing a 8g kit in my late 2009 mac mini. when the parts are installed all i get is a beeping sound, is there any way to get around this?

i'm having trouble with installing a 8g kit in my late 2009 mac mini. when the parts are installed all i get is a beeping sound, is there any way to get around this?

What is the source & link to this 8 GB kit please?
Can you count the beeps or flashes?
1 beep = no RAM installed
2 beeps = incompatible RAM types
3 beeps = no good banks
4 beeps = no good boot images in the boot ROM (and/or bad sys config block)
5 beeps = processor is not usable
In addition to the beeps, on some computers the power LED will flash a corresponding number of times plus one. The LED will repeat the sequence after approximately a 5-second pause. The tones are only played once.
Note: In this case, a flash is considered to be 1/4 second or 250 ms or greater in length.

  • Trouble with a new MacBook Pro - times 3 now..

    Hi all,
Trouble Trouble Trouble - my frustrations with Apple:
    1) MacBook Pro -bought 19th nov 2009- Death On Arrival, 4HDD/11/40000004:SATA(0,0)
Been sent back to Apple and I got a new one.
New MacBook Pro -got it on the 25th nov 2009- Started to have random Kernel Panic's 2nd of November:
    2) Kernel Panic's everywhere.. even on the Mac Bootdisc with Disk Utility.. as random as they appeared, so random they went away. Just to be sure on the Apple helpdesk they advised me to cleaned disk and reinstalled everything. Lucky I made a back-up when it was still working.... otherwise I'd have lost everything.
    3) Worked well for 2 or 3 days and now -6th dec 09- all the sudden it doesn't want to start anymore. Giving me 9 beeps at start-up on a black screen in the morse code s.o.s. 3x short, 3x long, 3x short)
    Apple?
I'm sure when I call Apple tomorrow I'll have to bring away my notebook to an Apple Service Provider cause they can't help me on the phone. If so, I will have to wait for another 20 days(experience in the past with my bro's MacBook for a new harddisk(!)).
I used to be a PC-guy and took the brave step to be a full-time Apple-guy, but this is just frustrating me. Sold my old laptop and now I'm without one for ages.
What would my options be? Could I get a complete new notebook?
    Niek

Giving me 9 beeps at start-up on a black screen in the morse code s.o.s. 3x short, 3x long, 3x short)
    Sounds like bad RAM:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2341?viewlocale=en_US
    Or bad power.
Have you attempted to change the power supply or power source? If it isn't plugged into a surge protector, you may have issues with your house power that create problems for multiple computers.
Also, be sure you aren't damaging the power cable unintentially*:
    http://www.macmaps.com/frayguide.html
This is a user to user board.
    Call Apple directly at:
    (31) 0900 7777 703
And let them know your repeated issues. They could give you a replacement machine, but also ask for a replacement power brick to at least test the theory the power brick may be damaged.

Having trouble with the sounds when I connect  hdmi from MacBook to TV

This is the iPad forum. Do you have a question about iPad? If not, I'll ask that your post be reassigned.

  • Still having trouble with audio on Macbook Pro

I had posted a discussion board earlier on this issue. I've been having trouble with audio for certain videos on youtube and basically any website embedded with a video. The audio works for a few seconds that doesn't or it doesn't work at all. My volume is up, not on mute, and the one on the video isn't on mute either. It's funny because I just tried watching a video on Firefox (as opposed to Safari) and it works. Could it possible be something with the settings for safari?

Try restarting your Mac, resetting your router, and resetting your modem. My cable internet has gotten slow at times as well, and when I reset my router everything cleared up.

  • Trouble With installing Snow Leopard on my 4 year old Macbook

I'm trying to install Snow Leopard to my 4 year old Macbook stuck on 10.5.8, but it keeps saying "The application 'Install Mac OS X' cannot be used from this volume." I've tried almost everything to solve this, but I can't find anything at really helps my situation. I've looked on some of these discussions, and they haven't really helped much. My Macbook has a: 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM, and is stuck on OS X 10.5.8. Please give me your input and help

Are you using a Retail version of Snow Leopard that looks like this?
Or gray discs that look like this?
The gray discs are machine specific and will only work with the MacBooks that they were shipped with.

  • Macbook pro 10.6.7 and trouble with install hp 2575 printer. HELP!

    Hi,
I have a Macbook pro 10.6.7 and am trying and failing to install a hp 2575 printer. HELP!
I have downloaded various hp installs along with apple software updates to no avail. HELP!
    Thanks

None of those things you mentioned were what I suggested.
I'm guessing the "ctrl click in printer preferences" means you Reset the Printing System?
If so, that is what I would have suggested if deleting it by selecting the ( - ) button and then adding it with the ( + ) button.
But, if HP has a fix, it likely needs to update its drivers.

  • Trouble with installing 10.5 from an external firewire drive

I have a family pack of 10.5 and installed it just fine on my macbook. But, I'm having trouble getting my imac DVD player to read the DVD. It just spins and spits it out, and spins and spits it out. The imac is not covered under applecare so spending money to get the DVD drive fixed (which I barely use) is not something I want to do right now.
Anyway, I followed instructions on a this website to install 10.5 from an external firewire drive. (http://iuseapple.com/blog/apple-how-to/advanced-os-x/2007/10/29/how-to-install-l eopard-from-external-firewire-hard-drive/)
But I get stuck and am not able to actually get my imac to boot from the installer. Basically, I am able to use disk utility to create a copy of the disk image on my macbook. That resulting file ends in ".cdr" and it mounts when I double click it.
And I partitioned my firewire hard drive without problems.
I think I'm messing up when it comes to doing the restore. If I try to drag the .dmg mounted file in to the "source" it doesn't work (is greyed out). If I try to drag the mounted .dmg there than it works, but I get an error when I click "restore" (something about scans and images not being found). I tried physically copying the .dmg file onto the partition, but then when I plugged the HD into my imac, I wasn't able to get the imac to boot from the installer.
What am I doing wrong? If someone could walk me through these last steps I'd appreciate it!

Okay I finally got around to creating the bootable disk image of 10.5 using Carbon Copy Cloner. Still my iMac is not booting from the firewire drive!
Here's a recap of everything I've tried. I'm at a complete loss now!
    - I partitioned the HD into 2 partitions-- a 10gig one for the 10.5 install, the then the rest for Time Machine. I make the partition in Disk Utility on my MacBook.
    - I've partitioned the drive a few times-- always partitioning it in APM format (b/c it needs to boot my non-intel iMac).
    - I've created the disk image using "restore" in disk utility. I've again tried this a few times.
    - I am able to boot my MacBook from the disk image I create! So I know the FW drive is able to be used to boot from!
    - Here's what I've tried in terms of getting the iMac to boot from the FW drive. It always just boots to my internal drive instead. Sometimes I briefly see a folder and question mark. I've tried all 3 FW ports. I've selected the install partition at start up in preferences. I've also held down the option key at start up (only my internal drive shows) and I've held down command-option-shift-delete and again I get the question mark and it boots to my internal drive.
    - And I installed Carbon Copy Cloner and made the disk image that way on my macbook. Still, I tried everything and the iMac is not able to boot from the firewire drive!
Since my DVD drive is broken, this is the only way for me to install 10.5! Help!

  • Trouble with iTunes-Quicktime-Os X upgrade

I recently bought a used iMac. When trying to install Firefox i get the message that i need the latest MacOsX, trying to upgrade OsX i need the latest version of iTunes, tyring to start iTunes i´m told i need Quicktime 7.5.5 or later. Then i buy Quicktime Pro 7, but still iTunes will not start and continue asking for Quicktime 7.5.5 or later.
I have a MacBook Pro with all the latest software, but i guess i cant transfer i to my iMac.
    What to do ?

In order to get current, you need to buy Snow Leopard 10.6.x, this is still available from Apple's online store. IT IS NOT SOLD IN STORES!!!
Next you will need to update SL to version 10.6.8, you can use Apple 10.6.8 update combo to do this.
Next using the Mac App Store upgrade to Mountain Lion 10.8.5. This is assuming your iMac has the system requirements to run ML, which are:
    General Requirements
    OS X v10.6.8 or later
    2GB of memory
    8GB of available space
Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.
    Supported
    Models
    iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)

  • A few problems with install on Macbook 2,1

I used diskutil to set a 4G SWAP partition, and a HFS+ Arch partition.  Did not make a separate boot partition.
I downloaded and installed rEFit.  Went through the Macbook Install wiki, but grub would not install on /dev/sda3 even with the sfdisk -c fix.
I also could not get pacman -Sy refit to work, it said that 'refit' did not exist, tried pacman -Ss as well, nothing.  gptsync command does not work.
I initially thought that I had installed refit too soon (before creating the new partitions in diskutil) so I erased everything, restored back to the original volume in OSX, and tried it again being very careful to follow the wiki order of steps, but went straight back to the same problem.  I feel like I'm overlooking something simple here.  My girlfriend (she configures BSD and linux distros for fun) heard me cursing and said that grub was just being difficult.

Okay I figured this out, and possibly the problems that many are having installing GRUB or LILO.  The GRUB error message about the GPT HD is most likely due to rEFit syncing the GPT and MBR.  The only way that I got GRUB to install correctly was to go back and reinstall without using rEFit or "syncing" the PT and MBR.  It looks like it may actually be better to install rEFit (if you want it) after installing linux, or not at all.
I did see the small "disclaimer" in the wiki stating that rEFit is not available for pacman to find anymore, so I don't know why the "pacman -Sy refit" is even still in the wiki.  One thing is for sure, it does not seem like anyone is really clear about this whole GPT/MBR setup on the Mac HD's, or what this "syncing" actually does.  Looks to me like it just sort of "smooths" out the hybrid MBR partitions and that's why GRUB can't find the specific partition you want to install it on, it doesn't look like a partitioned MBR anymore to it, it only sees a GPT.
I'm also not sure the sfdisk -c /dev/sda X XY command can work for everyone, it only gave me error messages.
Another thing, now that I have everything installed and working, I hardly have any drivers, or relevant modules for the Macbook.  At least I have Arch installed, but now I'm going to have to go configure everything just to get the X environment working (I don't even have the driver for the LCD).

  • Troubles with Tunes (+ QuickTime) 6 for Windows

Impossible to update to, install or reinstall the latest version of iTunes (+ Quicktime).
I always receive the following error messages:
    - with iTunesSetup, the InstallShield Wizard gives:
    - when repairing => error -3
    - when removing + reinstalling => error -3
and afterwards restarting iTunes => error - 2093
    - with QuickTimeInstaller, the Installshield Wizard gives:
    - when installing => error - 1603
So, I don't succeed to reinstall both programs iTunes and QuickTime and I have no longer access to my music.
Who can solve this problem. Wherefore thanks in advance.
    Eve

Eve, you win HANDS DOWN for the funkiest name that I have ever witnessed!!!!
I hope that I can come through for you after you blew me away with that moniker! Here is a post that I added two weeks ago. It includes a solution that worked for me. I hope that it works for you! Good luck.
    Hey troubled Podheads,
I was one of the legion with problems in downloading iTunes6 and QT7 for Windows until I tried something (I must say that I am not a pc wizard and I don't know the technical reasons for why the following worked, it just did! So if there are any pc geeks out there, be sure to chime in). Anyway, this is what I did. First uninstall QuickTime if you do have it on your pc. If not, just go to the next step:
Go to START, then RUN. Type in regedit and then click OK. Your REGISTRY EDITOR should open. You should see HKEYLOCALMACHINE in the scroll down menu on the left, with a small box to its left. Make sure that the inside of the box has a negative sign - this will open up the next set of subfolders. Next, make sure that the subfolder, SOFTWARE, has a negative sign in the small box to its left. Next, make sure that there is a negative sign in the box next to the subfolder entitled, Apple Computer, Inc. You'll see at least three subfolders: iPod, iTunes and QuickTime. Click once on the QuickTime folder until it is highlighted and then delete it. You will be asked if you want to delete QuickTime and its subfolders. Click ok and then close out the Registry Editor.
Next, download the stand alone QuickTime 7 at this link (you may have to cut and paste this link to open this website):
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/standalone.html
When you download the stand alone QT7, you may get a couple of error messages (I did), but if you repeatedly click ok (like I did), the QT7 player should load with no problems.
Again, I am no pc geek, but this worked for me and I have gained access to iTunes6 (with video capacity) and my complete library is intact. Nothing like trial and error!! Good luck -- I hope this works for all of you frustrated Podheads out there!
